It's day 1 of the exhibition!

People had already started lining up 30-40 minutes before we open.

I'm happy that the opening is looking to be an exciting one.

The weather's also really nice.

We put together such a lovely space.

Day 1 of the exhibition is done! Yay!

There was a constant stream of people coming by.

A ton of people came out.

Everyone had fun taking in the pieces in their own way,

and I also had some time to talk to each person.

It was such a meaningful day.

I'll be holding an exhibition on 5/27-28,

so today I'll be working on stuff for that.

I held an exhibition two years ago, and...

I posted a video [last year] about how the artist Mana Hiraki and I made a zine.

We'll be reconstructing that work

by displaying photos and creating a space in a gallery.

It'll be open for two days.

That's the collaboration exhibition we're doing.

We're preparing for that.

Today is May 23rd.

The exhibition is already this weekend.

We finally have the framed photos on hand.

We'll be painting the frames

and taking them to the gallery like that.

How will they turn out?

I'm excited.

For this exhibition,

we'll also be including unreleased photos

and expressing two different worlds as part of one space.

The zine itself...

I think I talked about it in my previous video.

The song "Kanojo wa Wave" on our album MIRROR

features lyrics, music, and main vocals by me,

and the concept of the zine is about expressing that world via art,

in a way that's different than music.

This exhibition is one where you can physically experience that world.

I created a collage that's the key visual for the exhibition,

and Hiraki then painted over that.

That's how we created it.

In the past I would make collages using old magazines.

I'd create works using materials that didn't feature myself,

but the materials I used this time were old photos of myself.

I used my two zines to make the collage.

That's why...

Overall, I think the main theme of it is to restore and reconstruct.

Including band activities,

it's rare for me to create something using my own face and body,

so I hope you'll enjoy the world view and artworks in the gallery

that are only possible with this exhibition.

How will it turn out to be?

-I have worked a lot with spray paint.

First, we'll tape them.

They're cute enough framed,

but since we're at it, we'll give them a special feel by spray painting them.

We'll be coloring them so that the color of the flowers will pop

and extend past the frame.

It's been a while since I've used a plastic sheet.

Shall we try it?

We'll be adding color to this one first.

Cut this piece of plastic smaller than this

and use it as a covering.

I never did this for paintings or photos while in school.

-Really?
-Yeah.

I didn't really...

There were surprisingly few chances.

-So this must feel fresh.
-It does.

-I primarily did paintings.
-That's right.

I didn't work with photos.

-When a painting was done, was it complete at that point?
-Yeah, basically.

The canvas would be hung up as is.

That's also nice.

There was a time when I didn't like canvases anymore.

-Did you overdo it?
-Yeah.

Like, "What's with this square frame??"

-I see.
-Yeah.

I'd draw on cloth and put it just like that on the wall and stretch it out.

Like I'd be pasting it on.

-I'm sure those skills came in handy for the cloth [you painted for the zine]
-Ah, that's right.

Then should I make [some coverings] too?

Ah, shall we do that?

Someone will cut the plastic,

Do you get impatient when a lot of work is piled up in front of you?

-Ah, not at all.

I seriously love this kind of work.

When we had to stay at home during the pandemic,

this is what I did all the time at home.

-You did your zines like that.
-Yeah.

-Some activities still require some distancing.
-That's true.

It's hard to have in-depth discussions now.

I think there'll be a line [at the exhibition] because everyone wants to talk to you, RINA.

At my previous exhibition...

Some did talk to me, but they primarily came to really look at the works.

-Wow.
-Yeah.

I was grateful for that,

and thought, "That's our fans for you."

I was there, but they prioritized seeing the works.

Most would only talk to me as they were leaving.

-They're proper fans.
-Seriously.

-This will be my first exhibition.
-That's right.

We're getting things ready the day before the exhibition starts.

We'll be creating a space full of works in this completely empty gallery.

My throat's not open yet since it's still morning.

My voice isn't in the best shape right now,

but I'll be creating a wonderful space with everyone.

It's finally go-time tomorrow! I can't wait!
