Review: Gone Home

  • 0:03 - 0:05
So do you guys ever remember
  • 0:05 - 0:06
how when you were like a kid
  • 0:06 - 0:07
and you had to walk around the house
  • 0:07 - 0:09
in the middle of the night
  • 0:09 - 0:11
with the lights off, it was freaking terrifying?
  • 0:11 - 0:14
and then you would stop to think about how weird it was
  • 0:14 - 0:16
that you were creeped out by your own house
  • 0:16 - 0:17
so that you would turn your lights on
  • 0:17 - 0:20
and suddenly it would turn into the most comfy place in the world?
  • 0:21 - 0:23
"Gone Home" is a game about that.
  • 0:23 - 0:27
The year is 1995 and you are a college aged girl
  • 0:27 - 0:29
you just got home from a trip in Europe
  • 0:29 - 0:31
but of course home is a haunted house
  • 0:31 - 0:33
located somewhere in the woods outside of Twin Peaks.
  • 0:33 - 0:36
Naturally, it's a dark and stormy night outside
  • 0:36 - 0:39
and the place is mysteriously abandoned on the inside.
  • 0:39 - 0:41
So as these stories normally go
  • 0:41 - 0:45
it's up to you to explore the house and find out what happened to everybody.
  • 0:45 - 0:49
You may or may not come to find a few suprises along the way.
  • 0:49 - 0:51
"Gone Home" was develop by the fine people
  • 0:51 - 0:55
who brought us the Minerva's Den (DLC) for BioShock 2
  • 0:55 - 0:57
Unfortunatelly I haven't played it or its parent game
  • 0:57 - 0:59
but the reviews seemed to consistently claim
  • 0:59 - 1:01
that it was better than BioShock 2
  • 1:01 - 1:03
and that it also pushed up the quality
  • 1:03 - 1:06
    of first person environmental storytelling
