The hidden code for transforming dreams into reality | Mary Morrissey | TEDxWilmingtonWomen

  • Not Synced
Imagine its one year from today
  • Not Synced
and we all agree that we're going to
  • Not Synced
    come back for a reunion
  • Not Synced
Not maybe, absolutely. We're all going to
  • Not Synced
come back exactly the same group of us
  • Not Synced
And we're going to come back for a reunion
  • Not Synced
Only want to share the things that has
  • Not Synced
happened in our lives, during the last
  • Not Synced
    12 months of our lives.
  • Not Synced
We're going to share what it is we've
  • Not Synced
dreamed up when we were here at TEDX
  • Not Synced
in October of 2016 and what's happening
  • Not Synced
in our lives right now 365 days later.
  • Not Synced
What would you love to be saying about
  • Not Synced
your life? What would you love to say
  • Not Synced
in the four areas where humans actually do
  • Not Synced
    create results?
  • Not Synced
We live in a spiral universe.
  • Not Synced
In a spiral there's an ever upward pole
    of becomingness.
  • Not Synced
A little blade of grass feels it as it
    presses through cement to
  • Not Synced
become more of its self today than
    yesterday
  • Not Synced
A tree presses to the edges of itself
to become more of its self
    today than yesterday
  • Not Synced
And humans feel the same thing,
we just feel a little differently
  • Not Synced
    We feel it through longing
    and we feel through discontent
  • Not Synced
We feel a longing for greater freedom.
  • Not Synced
    We feel a discontent with
    certain circumstances and situations.
  • Not Synced
And if we just keep breathing another
    365 days,we will create results.
  • Not Synced
    Because that's what humans do.
  • Not Synced
Now we create results in four areas.
  • Not Synced
We create results in health and well-being
  • Not Synced
You could look at your results in health
    and well-being
  • Not Synced
but what would you love a year from now?
  • Not Synced
Because if you keep breathing you're going
to have results in that area.
  • Not Synced
    Humans create results in relationships.
    Some of them are wonderful,
  • Not Synced
some of them are deep, some of them
are supportive, some of them are not.
  • Not Synced
    What would you love
in the area of your relationships?
  • Not Synced
Would you love to bring that someone
    special in your life?
  • Not Synced
Would you like to transform a relationship
    you are in?
  • Not Synced
Maybe a relationship is on an auto-pilot
and you'd love to have it go deeper
  • Not Synced
    Humans create results in vocation.
  • Not Synced
What we do with our time and talent.
  • Not Synced
Whether we earned income doing it or not.
  • Not Synced
Because just by our beingness we're doing
something with our time and talent.
  • Not Synced
Even if we think we've done so many
mistakes and want to go under the covers
  • Not Synced
What I create that day is "Covers over my
    head day in bed"
  • Not Synced
I don't get to not create out of my
    experience
  • Not Synced
And humans create results in time and
    money, freedom or constraint
  • Not Synced
So if you think about next year when we
    come to the reunion
  • Not Synced
What would you love to be saying?
  • Not Synced
You know in my calendar the last twelve
    months here are the evidences
  • Not Synced
More freedom for me and time
  • Not Synced
More freedom for me in the economic
    freedom
  • Not Synced
where I could go where I wanted to go,
do what I wanted to do
  • Not Synced
    but maybe even more importantly
    and I believe it is
  • Not Synced
actually give to the things that matter
    to you
  • Not Synced
provide some of the things for those that
    matter to you as well
  • Not Synced
    Now...about fourty years ago
  • Not Synced
I got very interested in transformation
  • Not Synced
I was getting my undergraduate degree
  • Not Synced
and I cared deeply about kids
  • Not Synced
This has been a longing of mine for
quite a while to become a school teacher
  • Not Synced
And while I was getting my undergraduate
degree I wanted to study everything
  • Not Synced
I could in the field of transformation
  • Not Synced
And the purpose at that point was to help
children discover a kind of self-esteem
  • Not Synced
So no matter what their circumstances,
    no matter what their situations
  • Not Synced
They could actually believe that they
    could actually become the person
  • Not Synced
they wanted to be and achieve the things
    they wanted to achieve
  • Not Synced
I went on a got a graduate degree in
    counselling psychology,
  • Not Synced
    I earned an honorary doctorate
  • Not Synced
My first book, 'Building your field
of dreams' became a PBS special
  • Not Synced
I had the privilege of working with
    his holiness The Dalai Lama
  • Not Synced
Over the course of seven years creating
    week long conversations
  • Not Synced
Conversations with world leaders about how
    to transform our worlds results
  • Not Synced
I got very interested in how results
happened and how to transform results
  • Not Synced
I had the privilege of speaking at the
    United Nations
  • Not Synced
with The Martin Luther King kids and Ghandi's grandkids
  • Not Synced
    creating a 64 day season for non-violence
    particularly teaching junior high kids
  • Not Synced
about how to solve problems through acs of
    non-violence and caring
  • Not Synced
And I spoke at the UN three different
times, one of them with Rosa Parks
  • Not Synced
And I was building my dreams that mattered
    to me
  • Not Synced
I had the privilege of working and flying
to Cape Town, South Africa and meeting
  • Not Synced
with Nelson Mandela. I had a deep dream to
    ask him the question
  • Not Synced
"How did you transform your results?"
  • Not Synced
"How did you be a man that gets sentenced
    to life in prison?"
  • Not Synced
"You served 27 years in hard prison and
then not only do you get out of prison
  • Not Synced
before you die but you actually then
become president of the country that
    sentences you to life?"
  • Not Synced
Who on our planet does this?
    How did you do that?
  • Not Synced
And that has been my quest, my interest
    and my deep longing
  • Not Synced
so that I could transfer that and offer
that to the people that I had the
  • Not Synced
    privilege of working with
  • Not Synced
I've had the privilege of working with
tens of thousands of people around the
  • Not Synced
    world, around changing their results
  • Not Synced
Does it mean that because every time I've
studied this and worked with my own life
  • Not Synced
and others, that every time for me
  • Not Synced
my dreams came true? No. Does it mean
everything I did worked out? No.
  • Not Synced
My first business that I spent 23 years
building. I took my eye of the ball,
  • Not Synced
I hired somebody to run the finances,
    it was totally mismanaged
  • Not Synced
    Everything I had built.
    It was heartbreaking to me.
  • Not Synced
But there are three straps that
dream builders use either consciously or
  • Not Synced
    unconsciously. To transform their results
  • Not Synced
so that the dream wins over conditions
  • Not Synced
so that the dream wins over time
  • Not Synced
so that the dream wins over all kinds of
    circumstances, situations, and even our
  • Not Synced
history and even no matter how long
    it's been there
  • Not Synced
And sometimes, it's been there for decades
  • Not Synced
About 150 years ago man decided to do an
    experiment with his life.
  • Not Synced
That's what we're invited to do over the
    next twelve months
  • Not Synced
Keep breathing and do an experiment with life
  • Not Synced
He went to the woods-Henry David Thoreau
  • Not Synced
and he said "I wanted to learn to suck the
    marrow out of aliveness"
  • Not Synced
I wanted to live a life I loved living
    while I was living it
  • Not Synced
I went to the woods because I wished to
delibrately front the only essential facts
  • Not Synced
of life and see if life could not teach me
    what it had to teach
  • Not Synced
and not when I came to die
discover that I had not really lived
  • Not Synced
Now, Henry did this 2 month 2 day
experiment and then he wrote an essay
  • Not Synced
about it. In the conclusion of that essay,
he writes a quote that is world wide known
  • Not Synced
'If one advances confidently in the
direction of their dream it endeavors to
  • Not Synced
live the life they imagined'. He said "I
learned this at least by my experiment"
  • Not Synced
If one advances confidently in the
    direction of their dream-
  • Not Synced
you can't advance in a direction you don't
    already have an idea of
  • Not Synced
And the first thing dream builders or
people who evolve their results do
  • Not Synced
Is they have an idea of what they really
loved their life to be like
  • Not Synced
If I say to you 'Your front door',
'The kitchen sink', 'the bed you sleep in'
  • Not Synced
You did not see the letters B, E, D or
    S,I,N,K or D,O,O,R
  • Not Synced
You saw pictures. You saw picture of a
    door, sink, bed.
