This is Actually the WORST Makeup Launch EVER: Lisa Frank X Glamour Dolls | Behind the Controversy

  • Not Synced
Y'all when I started researching for this
  • Not Synced
video I honestly thought it was going to
  • Not Synced
    be faster
  • Not Synced
    huh
  • Not Synced
    I thought I knew everything I genuinely
  • Not Synced
did I was a backer for the Lisa Frank
  • Not Synced
Glamour Dolls campaign back in 2017
  • Not Synced
I really thought I knew the story
  • Not Synced
I saw other peoples videos on it
  • Not Synced
and I was in it, I did
  • Not Synced
all of the things, I was part of it.
  • Not Synced
My friend, oh-my gosh, I did not know.
  • Not Synced
There was so much that I did not know
  • Not Synced
It is so fucked up, like I am just-
  • Not Synced
    I am absolutely blown away.
  • Not Synced
Because the thing is, the more I started
  • Not Synced
looking into it, the more things that I found
  • Not Synced
And the more connections I was making
  • Not Synced
And I was like oh my gosh.
  • Not Synced
This is a story, my friend.
  • Not Synced
There is so much that happened
  • Not Synced
in the Lisa Frank Glamour Dolls Collab
  • Not Synced
That we did not know, because everything
  • Not Synced
    wasn't laid out through hindsight
  • Not Synced
    we know hindsight is 20/20.
  • Not Synced
Now we're seeing 20/20 my friend.
  • Not Synced
And the rainbows are not rainbowing,
  • Not Synced
and the unicorns and the peguseseses, and
  • Not Synced
they're not, it's not good, it's very bad.
  • Not Synced
So if you are ready, to go on this
  • Not Synced
    wild journey with me
  • Not Synced
    This is Behind the Controversy.
  • Not Synced
    And its starting right now.
  • Not Synced
    [Music]
  • Not Synced
I would dare to say, pretty much
  • Not Synced
    everybody watching this video
  • Not Synced
has been online and seen something
  • Not Synced
that you never intended to purchase,
  • Not Synced
but you had that impulse feeling.
  • Not Synced
    You had that feeling because,
  • Not Synced
for some reason, you didn't know
  • Not Synced
    that you needed this,
  • Not Synced
and you needed to buy it.
  • Not Synced
Maybe it solves some kind of problem
  • Not Synced
in your life, maybe it was some kind of
  • Not Synced
advancement on something you already knew
  • Not Synced
or maybe it was due to nostalgia.
  • Not Synced
Something that reminded you of your childhood
  • Not Synced
or just when you were younger,
  • Not Synced
something that made you feel happy,
  • Not Synced
    during that time.
  • Not Synced
And maybe its even something that made
  • Not Synced
    an entire generation feel happy.
  • Not Synced
That's the feeling that the backers had
  • Not Synced
when we saw that Lisa Frank was
  • Not Synced
coming out with makeup with a company
  • Not Synced
    named Glamour Dolls.
  • Not Synced
Now we did not, a lot of us had never
  • Not Synced
    heard of Glamour Dolls.
  • Not Synced
Imma be 100%, I'd never heard of
  • Not Synced
    Glamour Dolls before.
  • Not Synced
But I had heard of Lisa Frank.
  • Not Synced
And I was freaking out because
  • Not Synced
    I was a sticker collector.
  • Not Synced
    I-I will tell you though,
  • Not Synced
    the scratch-and-sniff stickers
  • Not Synced
were my favorite, but Lisa Frank
  • Not Synced
    stickers were super cool too.
  • Not Synced
    They were very very popular,
  • Not Synced
and that's the way it was
  • Not Synced
for a lot of people that were GenX
  • Not Synced
    or older millennials.
  • Not Synced
    Mostly, probably mid-millennials as well.
  • Not Synced
    If it wasn't the stickers,
  • Not Synced
maybe it was the school supplies.
  • Not Synced
Because Trapper Keepers were a thing.
  • Not Synced
It was not just a regular notebook.
  • Not Synced
    It was a cool notebook.
  • Not Synced
And they were kind of pricey,
  • Not Synced
so if you had a Lisa Frank Trapper Keeper,
  • Not Synced
    you were cool.
  • Not Synced
Or if you were like me, you had a knock-off
  • Not Synced
version from K-mart, which made you
  • Not Synced
    moderately cool. Not really.
  • Not Synced
    But we pretended we were.
  • Not Synced
    "I'll never forget the day
  • Not Synced
I got stuck on Lisa Frank.
  • Not Synced
The stickers were so cool, the colors
  • Not Synced
    were awesome.
  • Not Synced
I gotta find more. So go to the store,
  • Not Synced
And WOW, there's tons of awesome
  • Not Synced
Lisa Frank stuff. I gotta have it!
  • Not Synced
    What more can I say?
  • Not Synced
Pretty soon my friends, Ashley and Lindsay
  • Not Synced
are going Lisa Frank Crazy too."
  • Not Synced
And like I mentioned earlier, the company
  • Not Synced
that started all of this wasn't super
  • Not Synced
well known. They're called Glamour Dolls,
  • Not Synced
so they had to get their name out there
  • Not Synced
somehow, so they used an uber popular
  • Not Synced
    youtuber, at the time,
  • Not Synced
    named Candy Johnson.
  • Not Synced
And Candy Johnson was the perfect influencer
  • Not Synced
    for this campaign.
  • Not Synced
I don't even know if we were calling
  • Not Synced
    people influencers at that point.
  • Not Synced
But anyway, my point is that Candy Johnson
  • Not Synced
was top of her game. Everybody freaking
  • Not Synced
loved Candy, she was like the sweetest,
  • Not Synced
    sweetest, kindest person.
  • Not Synced
And she has this really light voice.
  • Not Synced
    And everybody freakin' loved Candy.
  • Not Synced
"Hi guys, 2016 is behind us, but
  • Not Synced
I am gonna share with you
  • Not Synced
my Best in Beauty of 2016.
  • Not Synced
Make sure if you have not subscribed,
  • Not Synced
    subscribe, join the family,
  • Not Synced
become a Candy Corn. Candy Corn,
  • Not Synced
like a Unicorn, but like candy corn,
  • Not Synced
    I don't know, I'll have to think
  • Not Synced
    about that one.
  • Not Synced
And follow me on Snapchat, Twitter,
  • Not Synced
Instagram, Facebook for all kinds of
  • Not Synced
    different and awesome things."
  • Not Synced
So when Candy announced the collaboration
  • Not Synced
between Glamour Dolls and Lisa Frank,
  • Not Synced
people lost their minds, they opened
  • Not Synced
their wallets to the tune of over $300,000
  • Not Synced
Almost 6,000 people backed this project.
  • Not Synced
Now, if you don't know what
  • Not Synced
I'm talking about as far as Kickstarter
  • Not Synced
    and "backing" a project,
  • Not Synced
    basically, it's kind of like a GoFundMe-ish
  • Not Synced
kind of thing, but for a business.
  • Not Synced
So the business wants to make a product,
  • Not Synced
but they don't have the money,
  • Not Synced
so they go and they tell people
  • Not Synced
"Hey, we wanna make this product,
  • Not Synced
if you back us, if you give us money
  • Not Synced
at different tiers, you'll get X products
  • Not Synced
for helping us to create the product."
  • Not Synced
This story has been told many times before.
  • Not Synced
But I don't think it has been told
  • Not Synced
in this way, because what I'm gonna
  • Not Synced
focus on in this video is the point of view
  • Not Synced
of the backers. What was it like to be
  • Not Synced
a backer from the beginning, and what
  • Not Synced
kind of tactics did Glamour Dolls use
  • Not Synced
to keep us hanging on for well over a year.
  • Not Synced
Where many, many people, including me,
  • Not Synced
did not ask for refunds even after
  • Not Synced
they were over a year late in sending out
  • Not Synced
    products.
  • Not Synced
Some of you are probably sitting there
  • Not Synced
thinking, like, "why didn't you know?"
  • Not Synced
like, "why didn't you see the red flags?"
  • Not Synced
    Like, "what happened?"
  • Not Synced
    I'm going to tell you.
  • Not Synced
I'm going to share with you what they
  • Not Synced
    did to us.
  • Not Synced
I'm pointing down because of a 22 page
  • Not Synced
script here with all the fucked-up shit
  • Not Synced
    that they did.
  • Not Synced
Because, if you haven't figured it out yet
  • Not Synced
    Yea, we didn't get anything.
  • Not Synced
[wheeze] Well some people got a little bit,
  • Not Synced
    but I didn't get anything
  • Not Synced
And the vast majority of people got
  • Not Synced
absolutely nothing, the people that did
  • Not Synced
get things, got very very little.
  • Not Synced
    It's layered. It's multi-layered.
  • Not Synced
So lets just jump in to the very beginning
  • Not Synced
which was the start of the Kickstarter
  • Not Synced
    in February of 2017.
  • Not Synced
    [Music]
  • Not Synced
Something you might want to remember
  • Not Synced
about 2017 was that we didn't have
  • Not Synced
    the inundation of weird collabs,
  • Not Synced
like we do now, I mean,
  • Not Synced
the Glamlite Pizza palette was still about
  • Not Synced
a year away, and that one broke
  • Not Synced
    the internet.
  • Not Synced
It was like the first really weird collab
  • Not Synced
that people were like "that's odd, but
  • Not Synced
    also kind of cool".
  • Not Synced
The kind of collabs we were getting
  • Not Synced
at the time were things like
  • Not Synced
    Wonder Woman and Luxie
  • Not Synced
and PUR and the Trolls Movie.
  • Not Synced
A makeup collaboration with Lisa Frank
  • Not Synced
had literally never been done before,
  • Not Synced
so people, naturally, were very excited
  • Not Synced
due to that strong feeling of nostalgia.
  • Not Synced
The Kickstarter launches with a maximum
  • Not Synced
bid of 40 dollars to get a few products
  • Not Synced
and a goal of 30,000 dollars.
  • Not Synced
And the lowest buy-in to get something was
  • Not Synced
pretty cheap, at 5 dollars for what they
  • Not Synced
    called, a digital background.
  • Not Synced
It was an image that you could use as your
  • Not Synced
    background on your phone,
  • Not Synced
or on your computer, or whatever.
  • Not Synced
The kickstarter ran for 45 days
  • Not Synced
    from February 16, 2017, to April 2, 2017.
  • Not Synced
It's also important to talk about the fact
  • Not Synced
that Glamour Dolls said that backers
  • Not Synced
would have a say in the products
  • Not Synced
    being created.
  • Not Synced
That there would be polling and voting
  • Not Synced
and people would get sneak peaks,
  • Not Synced
people would also get the products
  • Not Synced
at a discount, because the products
  • Not Synced
would eventually end up at retailers
  • Not Synced
but the backers, because you bought
  • Not Synced
in a bundle, would get things cheaper
  • Not Synced
than you would get if you bought
  • Not Synced
    the products individually.
  • Not Synced
Just 3 days into the campaign,
  • Not Synced
    Glamour Dolls posted their update.
  • Not Synced
    They were so so excited.
  • Not Synced
They said that Lisa was "opening
  • Not Synced
her vault and would be sending
  • Not Synced
1000 vintage goodies to be included,
  • Not Synced
    for the first 1000 backers".
  • Not Synced
    They promised a second treat,
  • Not Synced
if they hit 2000 backers, and Lisa
  • Not Synced
    had something really special planned
  • Not Synced
if they made it to 10,000.
  • Not Synced
They're just hyping the heck out of the
  • Not Synced
    backers, because they also promised
  • Not Synced
    something called "stretch rewards".
  • Not Synced
And they way they described it is not
  • Not Synced
    how it turned out.
  • Not Synced
Basically, what they said is that
  • Not Synced
if the backers, as a community, complete
  • Not Synced
a set of challenges, that something will
  • Not Synced
be unlocked, and this something was going
  • Not Synced
    to be very very exciting.
  • Not Synced
    Challenges included tasks like creating
  • Not Synced
    a Lisa Frank-inspired makeup look
  • Not Synced
and taking a picture of it, writing a rap
  • Not Synced
about Glitter and tweeting it, and they
  • Not Synced
even had a challenge where a person
  • Not Synced
had to create a foil unicorn horn and put
  • Not Synced
it on their head and take a picture
  • Not Synced
    of themselves in public, wearing
  • Not Synced
    the unicorn horn.
  • Not Synced
40 people had to take a picture of their
  • Not Synced
vintage Lisa Frank products and submit
  • Not Synced
    those pictures.
  • Not Synced
    See, the community's participating,
  • Not Synced
they're excited, they're talking about all
  • Not Synced
the things that they're doing because
  • Not Synced
in every comment section under each post
  • Not Synced
there's a place for people of the
  • Not Synced
community to communicate, to talk about
  • Not Synced
what's happening. Its almost like a
  • Not Synced
little, not a message board, but just
  • Not Synced
kind of a place to dump things that people
  • Not Synced
    were thinking after the update.
  • Not Synced
So people are hyped about this, they're
  • Not Synced
so excited about their stretch reward.
  • Not Synced
And this is the first big disappointment
  • Not Synced
    for the backers.
  • Not Synced
Because it was not an extra item added to
  • Not Synced
the bag, it wasn't even a reward, because
  • Not Synced
when you think of a reward, you think
  • Not Synced
    that you're getting something.
  • Not Synced
What it actually was, was a mock-up photo
  • Not Synced
of an image of three-piece nail polish set
  • Not Synced
and this is the kicker about it,
  • Not Synced
no pun intended, that the nail polish set
  • Not Synced
wasn't included in any of the levels,
  • Not Synced
so nobody that had put in any money
  • Not Synced
at this point was going to get the
  • Not Synced
    nail polishes that were featured
  • Not Synced
in the picture, in order to get the
  • Not Synced
nail polishes, you had to now increase
  • Not Synced
your bid by at least 15 dollars
  • Not Synced
because Glamour Dolls had just created
  • Not Synced
new tiers that required more investment
  • Not Synced
and the backers were like "what?"
  • Not Synced
    "That's it?"
  • Not Synced
What we just worked so hard for, we just
  • Not Synced
did all the challenges, 40 of us sent
  • Not Synced
pictures of our Lisa Frank stuff that we
  • Not Synced
dug out of our basement or out of
  • Not Synced
our attics, and we found the stuff and
  • Not Synced
we took the picture and we did
  • Not Synced
all the work, and we got a drawing of
  • Not Synced
something we're not getting unless we
  • Not Synced
    spend more money?
  • Not Synced
    That's what happened.
  • Not Synced
I'm gonna put the whole post on the screen
  • Not Synced
for you to read, but I'll read one of the
  • Not Synced
    key points.
  • Not Synced
"We started this collection with a handful
  • Not Synced
of products, but a big part of this
  • Not Synced
    Kickstarter is expanding the collection
  • Not Synced
with the community and developing new
  • Not Synced
    products to add to it.
  • Not Synced
What maybe separates this Kickstarter from
  • Not Synced
others is that we don't know how big the
  • Not Synced
    collection will ultimately be.
  • Not Synced
It all depends on community engagement".
  • Not Synced
But the thing was is that they told people
  • Not Synced
how big it was going to be.
  • Not Synced
Because that's what they put their money
  • Not Synced
in for because it said if you put the
  • Not Synced
money in for this amount, then you'll get
  • Not Synced
this stuff, and now she's saying that it
  • Not Synced
may get even bigger than that.
  • Not Synced
Because what was about to happen is they
  • Not Synced
were about to add even more tiers with
  • Not Synced
    even more products.
  • Not Synced
    The explanation continued with this,
  • Not Synced
which was the kicker, "we would have told
  • Not Synced
you from the beginning" that basically it
  • Not Synced
was only a drawing of a mock-up of
  • Not Synced
something that no one was getting yet, but
  • Not Synced
"we only developed it last week.
  • Not Synced
In response to fan engagement after we
  • Not Synced
    researched cost formulations. For many
  • Not Synced
people, the challenges were a fun way to
  • Not Synced
unlock it and we'll be clear going
  • Not Synced
forward so you can choose whether
  • Not Synced
    to participate".
  • Not Synced
Unlock what? They unlocked a picture of
  • Not Synced
something they had to pay more for.
  • Not Synced
Thing is is that kind of the way that
  • Not Synced
these stretch rewards work, but they
  • Not Synced
didn't explain it to people that way.
  • Not Synced
When people see a stretch reward, they're
  • Not Synced
going to think that they're getting
  • Not Synced
    something as a reward.
  • Not Synced
What it is traditionally called is
  • Not Synced
a "stretch goal" and that is not something
  • Not Synced
that is officially part of kickstarter,
  • Not Synced
    but something that Kickstarter campaigns
  • Not Synced
do often. They usually call them goals,
  • Not Synced
not rewards, and from what I was reading,
  • Not Synced
a lot of the stretch goals typically happen
  • Not Synced
after the backers already have their first
  • Not Synced
set of products because they have gotten
  • Not Synced
their products, they're excited about it,
  • Not Synced
they're loving it, and now they want
  • Not Synced
    something more.
  • Not Synced
So in order to stretch their amount that
  • Not Synced
they've collected and create more products
  • Not Synced
they have a stretch goal. So let's say, If
  • Not Synced
I get 100 people to donate 20 more dollars
  • Not Synced
we can create X products, so lets see if
  • Not Synced
we can get to our stretch goal, rather
  • Not Synced
    than, it's a mystery, it's a game, it's a
  • Not Synced
    reward, it wasn't.
  • Not Synced
    They just completely missed represented
  • Not Synced
that to backers. But I'm telling you,
  • Not Synced
that snafu is mild, compared to what is
  • Not Synced
    coming next, like that-that's just
  • Not Synced
extremely minor. It gets so so much worse.
  • Not Synced
So trying to backtrack, Glamour Dolls
  • Not Synced
tells their backers "hey, if we get to
  • Not Synced
3,500 backers, then we're going to include
  • Not Synced
in everybody's bag, the first 3500 people,
  • Not Synced
a Lisa Frank designed crease brush.
  • Not Synced
Sometimes they call this a crease brush,
  • Not Synced
sometimes they call it a blending brush,
  • Not Synced
    its the same brush.
  • Not Synced
The promise of the free crease brush,
  • Not Synced
I am not kidding you, according to the
  • Not Synced
    Kickstarter brought them past that
  • Not Synced
3500 backer mark in 24 hours.
  • Not Synced
So at this point in time, highest level
  • Not Synced
    includes everything that they've said
  • Not Synced
so far, plus the nail polishes at a $60
  • Not Synced
price point. But people were still mad,
  • Not Synced
people were like, this is not what you
  • Not Synced
said it was going to be, sir, ma'am, sir.
  • Not Synced
So in response, Glamour Dolls was like
  • Not Synced
"ok, well, we will add something else,
  • Not Synced
we'll add something from our own line",
  • Not Synced
It was what they called their
  • Not Synced
    "Gypsy Eyeliners" to the first
  • Not Synced
2000 backers who complete a survey
  • Not Synced
to pick their preferred color of this
  • Not Synced
liner. They were going to add that into
  • Not Synced
the boxes, and that I think kind of
  • Not Synced
calmed people down a little bit,
  • Not Synced
they were like "ok, that feels more like
  • Not Synced
a reward." And people started getting
  • Not Synced
really excited about everything all over
  • Not Synced
again. A backer named Marsha said
  • Not Synced
"Wow, thanks yet again, the entire vibe
  • Not Synced
of this campaign totally reminds me of
  • Not Synced
what it felt like to open my noisy
  • Not Synced
    Lisa Frank Trapperkeeper, write with
  • Not Synced
my pencils, play with my erasers, that I
  • Not Synced
never used, to keep pristine, like dolls
  • Not Synced
LOL, etc. in school. It made me smile
  • Not Synced
and dream. I feel like we're all reliving
  • Not Synced
our childhoods through this campaign and
  • Not Synced
your team is making this fun. I'm hoping
  • Not Synced
this will begin a new generation
  • Not Synced
of Lisa Frank fans, when kids see us using
  • Not Synced
    our stuff".
  • Not Synced
Little did Marsha and the rest of us know,
  • Not Synced
we'd never use the stuff, we're not
  • Not Synced
getting the stuff. In March of 2017,
  • Not Synced
the Kickstarter is still going on, and
  • Not Synced
one of the founders and CEOs
  • Not Synced
of Glamour Dolls came on to clarify a
  • Not Synced
couple things. You're gonna see his name
  • Not Synced
coming up a lot. His name is Peter,
  • Not Synced
he looks like that. Just so you can get
  • Not Synced
a visual of who we're talking to.
  • Not Synced
    Peter, CEO, founder, Glamour Dolls,
  • Not Synced
along with a chick named Jessica,
  • Not Synced
that's Jessica. Back in 2017, unless you
  • Not Synced
were in the makeup industry, there wasn't
  • Not Synced
    as much information readily available
  • Not Synced
    about how makeup manufacturing worked,
  • Not Synced
so Peter felt like it was important
  • Not Synced
to explain to the backers, kind of, what
  • Not Synced
we were in for with this. He explained
  • Not Synced
    something called minimum order quantities
  • Not Synced
and he said "as we get more pledges we
  • Not Synced
have to order more units and if the order
  • Not Synced
gets big enough, we are able to consider
  • Not Synced
adding new products, knowing that we will
  • Not Synced
be able to meet the factory minimums for
  • Not Synced
    packaging and filling".
  • Not Synced
And then he says "as we add new products,
  • Not Synced
there will need to be some higher pledge
  • Not Synced
tiers, there no way around it. I wish I
  • Not Synced
could tell you exactly how much the
  • Not Synced
highest tier will be or how many products
  • Not Synced
we'll end up with, but we came here to
  • Not Synced
figure that out with you. But, you may see
  • Not Synced
the problem with this, in that they
  • Not Synced
haven't even created or started to create
  • Not Synced
    the products they've already promised,
  • Not Synced
and now we're talking about adding on
  • Not Synced
another layer, more tiers, more products,
  • Not Synced
that also they don't have any plan for how
  • Not Synced
they're going to make them. There's no
  • Not Synced
artwork from Lisa frank, there's no colors
  • Not Synced
picked out, there's just a concept
  • Not Synced
in their minds, that's all that exists.
  • Not Synced
And as we go through this, you'll realize
  • Not Synced
they didn't even calculate the financials
  • Not Synced
on how much all this was going to cost,
  • Not Synced
or if they did calculate the financials,
  • Not Synced
they didn't care, they were like, we'll
  • Not Synced
    figure it out some how.
  • Not Synced
And then Peter said something that stuck
  • Not Synced
in the minds of backers for the rest
  • Not Synced
of the campaign. This is what he said,
  • Not Synced
"Ultimately, whatever we do and don't
  • Not Synced
figure out, these products will be
  • Not Synced
    available for individual purchase before
  • Not Synced
the end of the year". The end of 2017.
  • Not Synced
Kickstarter backers will just be getting
  • Not Synced
    them first. They didn't.
  • Not Synced
So you remember how I said they were
  • Not Synced
adding all of these new products, and
  • Not Synced
    either they didn't calculate the
  • Not Synced
financials to figure out how much they
  • Not Synced
were gonna cost or they did know, but they
  • Not Synced
"oh we'll get the money from somewhere"
  • Not Synced
they kinda figured out how they might get
  • Not Synced
the money. They tapped into a creator
  • Not Synced
named Wengie, now back then, there was
  • Not Synced
a big boom around creators who did DIY
  • Not Synced
challenge kinds of videos. I'm gonna show
  • Not Synced
you some of Wengie's thumbnails. She got
  • Not Synced
tens of millions of views on these videos
  • Not Synced
Wengie was huge in this space, especially
  • Not Synced
with kids. At the time, Wengie only had
  • Not Synced
    6 million official subscribers
  • Not Synced
on her channel, but she had way more
  • Not Synced
    watching her.
  • Not Synced
Wengie: Hey guys, it's Wengie Welcome back
  • Not Synced
but today I'm here to make a special
  • Not Synced
    awesome announcement, I'm so excited
  • Not Synced
to announce this, like I can't even right
  • Not Synced
now. I'm going to be collaborating with
  • Not Synced
Lisa Frank and Glamour Dolls on an
  • Not Synced
eyeshadow palette, like What?! for those
  • Not Synced
of you who haven't heard about Lisa Frank
  • Not Synced
she is so amazing. She is, like, literally my childhood.
  • Not Synced
And her art is all about rainbows,
  • Not Synced
    unicorns, colorful, like
  • Not Synced
    everything I'm about.
  • Not Synced
Like, her art is my aesthetic, but
  • Not Synced
    the most amazing thing is
  • Not Synced
you guys get to be involved as well
  • Not Synced
because you guys are my Wingy-con fam
  • Not Synced
and if I'm going to work on my first
  • Not Synced
    huge collaboration,
it's got to be with you guys.
  • Not Synced
So, I really want you guys to help
    contribute to our creative.
  • Not Synced
    Choose the colors with us,
choose the designs of the pallet.
  • Not Synced
    And we've partnered with
    Glamour Dolls Make-up
  • Not Synced
    to make this come alive.
  • Not Synced
Because they are a high quality,
    vegan, cruelty-free brand.
  • Not Synced
    Not only that,
  • Not Synced
    they make super affordable makeup,
  • Not Synced
    because I want this collaboration
    to be affordable to everyone.
  • Not Synced
    And the great thing
    about this whole process
  • Not Synced
    is this was Internationally available
    no matter where you are,
  • Not Synced
    you can pre-order this palette.
  • Not Synced
    I'm not a hundred percent
on this timeline, but it seems
  • Not Synced
like this is when they added more tiers.
  • Not Synced
They added a seventy dollar tier,
    a one hundred dollar tier,
  • Not Synced
    and two hundred dollar tier,
  • Not Synced
    but what they added that
    was the most important thing
  • Not Synced
that I think really turned everything,
  • Not Synced
    was the additional of the
    Trapper Keeper palettes.
  • Not Synced
These were going to be six pan
    eye-shadow palettes that
  • Not Synced
looked legit like a trapper keeper.
  • Not Synced
No one had ever seen anything
    like this before and the
  • Not Synced
    nostalgia overload. Oh my gosh.
    People lost their minds when
  • Not Synced
    they were thinking,
"Oh my gosh, a trapper keeper
  • Not Synced
eye-shadow palette, I need to have this
    in my life!"
  • Not Synced
    So, along with Wengie
    trapper keeper palette
  • Not Synced
there would be a naturally glam
palette and a bold a bright palette.
  • Not Synced
All adorned with Lisa Frank artwork.
  • Not Synced
Just an hour before the kickstarted ended,
  • Not Synced
    Glamour Dolls made another promise.
  • Not Synced
    They said that everybody, thanks
    to their participation,
  • Not Synced
    anybody that participated in the
Kickstarter was going to get a goody bag.
  • Not Synced
What was in the goody bag?
No idea - no one ever got it.
  • Not Synced
    But they promised, they said
"There's gonna be a goody bag added,
  • Not Synced
thank you so much for backing
    this project.":
  • Not Synced
    According to the community,
at the time, it looked like before
  • Not Synced
    Wengie launched her video,
    they were at about
  • Not Synced
    two hundred fifty thousand dollars
    in pledges.
  • Not Synced
    After Wendgie launched her video,
    they reached their peak
  • Not Synced
at three hundred seventy thousand dollars
    and almost six thousand people.
  • Not Synced
That was an average of about sixty two
    dollars spent per backer.
  • Not Synced
The one hundred dollar tier got everything
    from the collection.
  • Not Synced
And the two hundred dollar tier got two
sets of everything in the collection.
  • Not Synced
Now me not having a ton of money,
at the time, and being a procrastinator
  • Not Synced
I waited until the last minute to
    back this campaign.
  • Not Synced
So I joined in at the very last moment
in the very last day of the campaign
  • Not Synced
at the seventy dollar level, so I paid
seventy dollars plus five dollar shipping.
  • Not Synced
And I will tell you, I was most excited
about those dang trapper keeper palettes.
  • Not Synced
    So excited about those things!
  • Not Synced
And I was excited, after I saw the drawing
I was excited about the nail polishes.
  • Not Synced
They looked really cool. I'd never seen
    anything quite like that.
  • Not Synced
And I wanted to review it for the channel,
  • Not Synced
I was excited to talk to you all about it.
  • Not Synced
Was it good quality along with
    being really cute?
  • Not Synced
I wanted to let you know.
  • Not Synced
    [music]
  • Not Synced
    Then something really weird happened.
  • Not Synced
Because, at the time, I was really in to
subscription boxes, I got a ton of them.
  • Not Synced
I got my Ipsy bag, and I got this in it.
  • Not Synced
    Yes, I still have it.
  • Not Synced
This is the Lisa Frank blush brush.
  • Not Synced
    What?
  • Not Synced
Why-why am I getting this in an Ipsy bag?
  • Not Synced
Let me go ahead and show you,
  • Not Synced
it is super super freaking cute.
  • Not Synced
there is a little line here,
    where the image connects,
  • Not Synced
but overall it's just a very cute design.
  • Not Synced
I will show you though that the, ya know,
    it is a little wiggly,
  • Not Synced
    it's not great quality, but
    at the time,
  • Not Synced
    I was more just confused.
    We are all super confused
  • Not Synced
on what is happening and why
the Lisa Frank blush brushes are in Ipsy.
  • Not Synced
    You guys! I'm so excited!
  • Not Synced
I saw that this might be a possibility,
something you could get in your bag,
  • Not Synced
and I got it! I'm so excited!
  • Not Synced
The fourth grader in my is, like,
jumping up and down, she has
  • Not Synced
her Lisa Frank trapper keeper like
    in the air.
  • Not Synced
This is a Lisa Frank inspired brush!
  • Not Synced
    Look at this thing!
    Look [laughs] at this thing!
  • Not Synced
    There's magical, like, unicorns
    on the handle.
  • Not Synced
And it is pink, and vibrant,
    and blue, and green,
  • Not Synced
and all sorts of magical colors.
