Wellness Central: Nutrition

  • 0:02 - 0:05
    >> My guilty pleasure is generally,
    really junky snack food; pretzels,
  • 0:06 - 0:09
and really salty chips, and fruit snacks.
  • 0:09 - 0:13
    >> So when everyone's home, my dad likes to
buy donuts so that we can spoil ourselves,
  • 0:13 - 0:16
and whenever I'm just like in a
rush, I just see them on the counter.
  • 0:16 - 0:20
    I just shove two chocolate
donuts in my mouth and head out.
  • 0:20 - 0:23
    And that's not exactly -
    that's not a good start.
  • 0:24 - 0:27
    >> Well, if I have like a bad
day or I just feel kind of lazy,
  • 0:27 - 0:28
and I do just go straight
    for the ice-cream treats.
  • 0:29 - 0:35
    >> My favorite healthy meal is
fruit salad, with cut up almonds,
  • 0:35 - 0:37
    sunflower seeds, and pumpkin seeds.
  • 0:39 - 0:45
    >> My favorite healthy nutritious meal
that I eat, would probably just be okay,
  • 0:45 - 0:48
    so I guess I don't really
    know much about nutrition,
  • 0:48 - 0:50
because I like, is bologna sandwich count?
  • 0:51 - 0:53
Does a bologna sandwich with a banana count?
  • 0:53 - 1:00
    >> I think my favorite healthy meal is
probably stir fry with lots of vegetables.
  • 1:01 - 1:03
    >> I'm actually really a big
    fan of cherries and peaches.
  • 1:04 - 1:07
    Fruit's pretty good, but I
    hear that it's really sugary.
  • 1:07 - 1:09
    In terms of vegetables, I
    like going for carrots.
  • 1:10 - 1:15
    >> Roasted Brussel sprouts with kung
paw sauce on it, with green rice.
  • 1:16 - 1:24
Green rice is that you make regular
brown rice and put cilantro, or spinach,
  • 1:24 - 1:29
or Swiss chard into it, and
mix it up, and it is wonderful.
  • 1:30 - 1:34
    >> My favorite go-to healthy nutritious
meal is probably a Caesar salad.
  • 1:34 - 1:38
And although the or the dressing
on that probably isn't the best,
  • 1:38 - 1:42
it's one of the better things
that I try to go for when I want
  • 1:42 - 1:46
to be healthy and get something good in me.
  • 1:46 - 1:50
    >> The Athena bag of carrots a banana,
and a little thing of fruit snacks.
  • 1:51 - 1:51
    >> Oh boy.
  • 1:51 - 1:58
I have a grilled cheese sandwich,
and an apple cut up into slices,
  • 2:00 - 2:04
and then a bag of cashew
    nuts, which is mostly eaten.
  • 2:04 - 2:10
    >> Oranges, almonds, and
    I would have a sandwich.
  • 2:10 - 2:16
You know, like a veggie burger or
so, or just an avocado sandwich.
  • 2:16 - 2:20
    Avocado, tomato, and lettuce,
    and stuff like that.
  • 2:21 - 2:24
    >> NO, I do not carry food with
me, because I tend to overeat.
  • 2:25 - 2:33
So I try to eat my breakfast at
home, and then I carry water with me.
  • 2:33 - 2:37
    >> My favorite thing to pack for lunch
is a sandwich, because it's easy.
  • 2:37 - 2:42
But I also like bringing soups, or spaghetti,,
or anything that happens to be in the fridge.
  • 2:43 - 2:48
    >> Got some brown rice made up,
and take a burrito shell, you know,
  • 2:48 - 2:53
a good organic burrito shell, with
some rice in there, and some avocado,
  • 2:53 - 2:55
    and some vegetarian chicken strip.
  • 2:56 - 2:56
    Put it in there.
  • 2:56 - 3:02
A little bit of fresh onion, and you've got
yourself a nice little breakfast burrito.
  • 3:04 - 3:08
    >> Hey, did you know that foods that are high in
salt and sugar cause inflammation in the brain
  • 3:08 - 3:10
    and hinder its ability to
    think clearly and remember?
  • 3:11 - 3:12
    It makes your brain sluggish.
  • 3:12 - 3:15
    There are recent studies that
    actually show a causal relationship
  • 3:15 - 3:16
    between those foods and depression.
  • 3:17 - 3:19
So go for the rainbow in your
    foods not in the packaging.
  • 3:20 - 3:25
