14:50 - 14:52The're hurting so much they don't

15:00 - 15:02What do you think?
-
15:02 - 15:04What can we do for them?
-
15:04 - 15:05Jonathan.

to try to take time to understand -

15:09 - 15:13From personal experience, I've been in

-
15:48 - 15:49I think that would be the first step.

16:47 - 16:52(Derek) Okay, so let's keep reading in
Job chapter 13, verses 5 through 12, -
16:52 - 16:58and Timoetel, if you'd keep
reading for us in Job 13:5-12, -
16:58 - 17:02and let's see what part of his
comments makes sense to you. -
17:02 - 17:06Job's struggling, too, so I'm
not saying everything's perfect, -
17:06 - 17:10but what about his response
to his friends makes sense? -
17:10 - 17:12(Timoetel) Job 13, verses 5 to 12,
-
17:12 - 17:16and I'll be reading from
the New King James Version: -
17:55 - 17:57(Derek) Was he speaking any truth there?
-
17:57 - 17:58(Team) Yes.
-
17:58 - 18:01(Derek) If you read the end
of the book, what happens? -
18:01 - 18:02(Timoetel) God rebukes them.
-
18:02 - 18:06(Derek) God rebukes them; He says,
"You have not said what is right -
18:06 - 18:07about my servant Job."
-
18:07 - 18:10So, that part, that
makes sense, doesn't it? -
18:10 - 18:16In fact go back to verse
5, better to do what? -
18:16 - 18:18(Derek, Team) Be quiet.
-
18:18 - 18:21(Derek) And if they're saying,
"Why is this happening?" -
18:21 - 18:24It would be better to say, "I don't know.
-
18:24 - 18:25I don't have an answer."
-
18:25 - 18:29(Nathan) This is an indication,
too, of the unity of Scripture. -
18:29 - 18:34Job is speaking under inspiration, or
this is recorded under inspiration here -
18:34 - 18:37where he says, "It would be better to be
silent, and that would be your wisdom." -
18:37 - 18:41And in Proverbs 17:28, it basically
says that even a fool seems wise -
18:41 - 18:43when they keep their mouth shut.
-
18:43 - 18:48(Derek) Right, and back to the
comment you made earlier, in Job 2 -
18:48 - 18:54where the friends come and they're
simply silent and grieving, -
18:54 - 18:55that probably was some comfort
-
18:55 - 18:57until they started speaking.
-
18:57 - 19:03So they brought three friends together,
apparently from different territories. -
19:03 - 19:05They were very earnest
in wanting to help him. -
19:05 - 19:08But again, how do I respond
to someone who's defensive? -
19:08 - 19:11Let's try to understand
them, walk in their shoes. -
19:11 - 19:17Can you share a time
when you realize that? -
19:17 - 19:22Maybe a friend was hurting, and
you realize the best thing was -
19:22 - 19:25just to be silent and
present with her or him? -
19:25 - 19:31Or a time when you were hurting,
-
19:31 - 19:34and you really appreciated someone
just kind of came to be with you -
19:34 - 19:37without trying to give you a bunch of -
what do we call those - kind of canned -
19:37 - 19:39or platitudes, canned answers.
-
19:39 - 19:43Anybody have an experience
where that happened for you? -
19:43 - 19:44Joshua?
-
19:44 - 19:47(Joshua) Yeah, there was a time when
I experienced a death in the family, -
19:47 - 19:53and someone came by my home
and gave me a box of pizza. -
19:53 - 19:55And, you know, I just ate
that delicious box of pizza. -
19:55 - 19:57They didn't
-
19:57 - 20:00want to ask me a ton of questions
about what's going on in my life, -
20:00 - 20:03and I preferred that because I
didn't want to talk about it, -
20:03 - 20:09but them just bringing the food to me
helped me a lot; I really appreciated it. -
20:09 - 20:14(Derek) Does that remind you of a story in
Scripture, that wasn't pizza by the way, -
20:14 - 20:23but does it remind you of
a story in the Scripture -
20:23 - 20:24where a person was going through a
very hard time, and someone just said, -
20:24 - 20:26"Here's some food"?
-
20:26 - 20:27Anybody remember that story?
-
20:27 - 20:28"Here's some food..."
-
20:28 - 20:29(Team Member) I remember Elijah.
-
20:29 - 20:31(Derek) Elijah, that's right, Elijah.
-
20:31 - 20:34And it was actually an angel, it
wasn't a pizza delivery person, right? -
20:34 - 20:35An angel brought the food,
-
20:35 - 20:39but no big description of what
you should be feeling but just -
20:39 - 20:44knowing you're going to need some food
and some rest, "Here's something to eat." -
20:44 - 20:46All right, anybody else, Puia?
-
20:46 - 20:49(Puia) Well, in my culture,
in the Mizo culture, -
20:49 - 20:53we have a very strong community support
whenever people lose their family members, -
20:54 - 20:56so what we would do as a community
is visit that family's house -
20:56 - 21:01and just hang out with them, just
comfort them without really needing -
21:01 - 21:04to talk everything about the person
that they just lost but just being there, -
21:04 - 21:06just being there and being a support.
-
21:06 - 21:09It's such an important part of healing.
-
21:09 - 21:12(Derek) Someone's probably going
to write an email and say, -
21:12 - 21:14"Where is the Mizo culture?"
and that's north... -
21:14 - 21:16(Puia) It's on the border
of India and Burma. -
21:16 - 21:18(Derek) India and Burma, okay.
-
21:18 - 21:23And there, there's part of the culture
of just coming and being present -
21:23 - 21:26in order to bring some comfort.
-
21:26 - 21:27Thanks for sharing that.
-
21:27 - 21:30Well, having kind of vented...
-
21:30 - 21:32You know what the word "vent"
means, to kind of let it out, right? -
21:32 - 21:36You know, "I'm not really happy
with the counsel you're giving, -
21:36 - 21:40and I'm not really understanding
everything about God," -
21:40 - 21:44but he speaks some words of hope now.
-
21:44 - 21:47These are glimpses of hope, right?
-
21:47 - 21:53Naiara, if you could read for
us Job 13, verses 15 and 16. -
21:53 - 21:56(Naiara) Sure, I'll be reading
from the King James Version, -
21:56 - 21:59Job 13, verses 15 to 16:
-
22:14 - 22:15(Derek) He's saying what?
-
22:15 - 22:20"I believe I know my heart,
and my heart is..."? -
22:20 - 22:23Yeah, "My heart is sincere."
-
22:23 - 22:26Now he's confessed his
sins; we'll talk about that. -
22:26 - 22:30He believes that, because of the mercy
of God, he's standing how before God? -
22:30 - 22:33Blameless, and by the way, was he right?
-
22:33 - 22:34(Team) Yes.
-
22:34 - 22:36(Derek) Yeah, God called
him blameless, right? -
22:36 - 22:40So he's saying, "I'm going to
trust my relationship with God." -
22:40 - 22:44How does his relationship with God
-
22:44 - 22:48say, "I know the character of God,
-
22:48 - 22:52and I'm going to keep holding on
even though I don't understand," -
22:52 - 22:54because he still doesn't
understand what's happening. -
22:54 - 23:01How does his awareness of the character
of God plus his connection with God -
23:01 - 23:05give him courage to hold on even
though he doesn't understand? -
23:05 - 23:06Anybody?
-
23:06 - 23:12(Tricia Lee) We can imagine he must be
so just worn out and physically tired, -
23:12 - 23:19emotionally tired, and he has three of
his friends telling him all these things, -
23:19 - 23:21and in all of that, instead of
just saying, "You know what, -
23:21 - 23:24you guys must be right; if three people
are telling me the same thing, it's true." -
23:24 - 23:25(Derek) Three against one.
-
23:25 - 23:27(Tricia Lee) Three against one,
he's literally getting beaten up. -
23:27 - 23:29His wife is not even in his
corner necessarily, giving him -
23:29 - 23:33the right advice either, and he can still
through that all say, "You are lying!" -
23:33 - 23:37It's like that knowledge of who God
is was just so strong he could say, -
23:37 - 23:41"Here are my friends, and you're all
agreeing with each other, but no! -
23:41 - 23:45Those are lies; you're forgers of lies;
you're not really helping me right now." -
23:45 - 23:48I think that's powerful because
when you're at your wits end, -
23:48 - 23:49you're looking for an answer.
-
23:49 - 23:50He was looking for answers.
-
23:50 - 23:53And sometimes we can say, "Oh,
well these people came to me. -
23:53 - 23:56Maybe God sent them to me to tell me
this," but he knew enough about God -
23:56 - 23:58to know, "God would not send you
to me to tell me these things. -
23:58 - 24:02This really isn't true; I just want to
talk to Him; I just want to hear from Him -
24:02 - 24:03and understand why this is happening."
-
24:03 - 24:08(Derek) There's a text of Scripture, I'm
going to have us read, and I want us -
24:08 - 24:13to continue, that speaks about
not what we see giving us hope, -
24:13 - 24:16but our connection with
God giving us hope. -
24:16 - 24:22And it's a Scripture song my wife
wrote to help me remember it, -
24:22 - 24:23from Lamentations 3.
-
24:23 - 24:27You might say, "Can any good
thing come out of Lamentations?" -
24:27 - 24:33What does the word "lamentations" mean?
-
24:33 - 24:34To grieve, right, to lament,
-
24:34 - 24:36and it's after the
destruction of Jerusalem, -
24:36 - 24:38and the prophet Jeremiah.
-
24:38 - 24:45Brittany, if you'd read that for us in
Lamentations 3, verses 22 through 26. -
24:45 - 24:49(Brittany) I'll be reading from
the New King James Version, -
24:49 - 24:52Lamentations 3:22-26:
-
25:19 - 25:22(Derek) Wait quietly, that
reminds us of our song, -
25:22 - 25:26which was written, what,
400 and some years earlier -
25:26 - 25:29by the psalmist, "Wait on the
Lord; be of good courage." -
25:29 - 25:33He's writing this lamentation;
-
25:33 - 25:35what's going on around Jeremiah?
-
25:35 - 25:39When he says, "Through the Lord's
mercies we are not consumed; -
25:39 - 25:41His compassions fail not."
-
25:41 - 25:43What's going on around him, Jonathan?
-
25:43 - 25:47(Jonathan) The whole city is being
destroyed or is about to be or... -
25:47 - 25:49(Derek) Well, "Lamentations,"
I think it's over; -
25:49 - 25:51it's been destroyed,
-
25:51 - 25:57captivity has happened...I mean,
everything is falling apart. -
25:57 - 25:59And what could he be saying?
-
25:59 - 26:02What could he be saying?
-
26:02 - 26:05"My hope is lost.
-
26:05 - 26:07Where are you, God?"
-
26:07 - 26:09Or, "What did they do?"
-
26:09 - 26:11And instead what's he choosing to do?
-
26:11 - 26:13(Team Member) Wait on the Lord.
-
26:13 - 26:17(Derek) Yeah, he's choosing to wait
on the Lord, to trust in the Lord, -
26:17 - 26:19to look to the Lord.
-
26:19 - 26:22Tricia Lee.
-
26:22 - 26:23(Tricia Lee) I think what's interesting
is that these three friends show up -
26:23 - 26:26at this particular time in his life,
when Job has been walking with God -
26:26 - 26:32for many years, I would imagine before
that, and he has an established -
26:32 - 26:35relationship with God that won't
be wavered by these friends coming -
26:35 - 26:36and telling him things.
-
26:36 - 26:39I think sometimes - and that's probably
contributing to why he's so upset - -
26:39 - 26:41it's just like, "You don't
even know my walk with God. -
26:41 - 26:46Where were you, coming to visit me when
I was praying for forgiveness every -
26:46 - 26:49morning for my sons and daughters, but
you show up at this particular time. -
26:49 - 26:53Granted, I'm happy you came, but you're
not really saying anything that's helpful -
26:53 - 26:54to me right now."
-
26:54 - 26:57And I think that when we hear these
encouraging words from Jeremiah -
26:57 - 27:01and from Job, it's just that they have
established a walk and a relationship -
27:01 - 27:06with God that cannot be swayed by what
they see or what they hear from their -
27:06 - 27:07so-called comforters...
-
27:07 - 27:08(Derek) Or what's happening to them.
-
27:08 - 27:09(Tricia Lee) Or what's happening to them.
-
27:09 - 27:10(Derek) Yeah, Naiara.
-
27:10 - 27:15(Naiara) It just amazes me that also
he knew himself because he was so low -
27:15 - 27:19to a point that anything that somebody
can tell you, you may be just like, "Okay, -
27:19 - 27:24yes, you're right; it's my fault," but,
yes, he knew God, he acquainted himself -
27:24 - 27:34with God, if we go read in Proverbs
22, but also he knew himself. -
27:34 - 27:35He knew himself so much,
he said, "Wait a minute. -
27:35 - 27:36I know who I am; I know what I have
been doing, so you are wrong." -
27:36 - 27:38(Derek) I want to unpack the
"acquaint yourself with God" -
27:38 - 27:42because it seems to me, when you're
going through difficult times, -
27:42 - 27:47a clear picture of the character
of God is crucially important. -
27:47 - 27:49(Team) Yes.
-
27:49 - 27:51(Derek) In fact, we need to
acquaint ourselves with God -
27:51 - 27:56before those hard times come because
then we need to be holding on -
27:56 - 27:57through the dark valley, right?
-
27:57 - 28:02So how do we get a true picture
of the character of God? -
28:02 - 28:06How do we get to know Him in
a living connection, Marianela? -
28:06 - 28:11(Marianela) I think through those hard
moments, and even if they're small trials, -
28:11 - 28:18and you let God lead you
and ask for the Holy Spirit; -
28:18 - 28:21He will guide you through that.
-
28:21 - 28:28And in those small moments when a
big trial comes, you realize that, -
28:28 - 28:30"Wow, God is different.
-
28:30 - 28:33My relationship with Him was
different in these small moments, -
28:33 - 28:38and now He's going to provide," and
I see how Job was able to defend God -
28:38 - 28:40to his friends.
-
28:40 - 28:42(Derek) Defend the character...
-
28:42 - 28:45(Marianela) Defend the character of God.
-
28:45 - 28:47(Derek) Now you said something really
important, which I want to just restate, -
28:47 - 28:49and that is that we trust
Him in the little challenges -
28:49 - 28:54so that in the big challenges,
you know, we've learned. -
28:54 - 28:58We've learned He's dependable.
-
28:58 - 29:05When else, how else, Nathan, do we
learn about the real character of God -
29:05 - 29:09so that when we don't understand we say,
"Well I may not see the path, but I trust -
29:09 - 29:13the God I've chosen to know and love"?
-
29:13 - 29:15(Nathan) Okay, I was going to
share something else, but I think -
29:15 - 29:17the clearest picture of the character of
God is revealed in the life of Jesus. -
29:17 - 29:21We look there, and we see Jesus saying,
"If you've seen Me, you've seen -
29:21 - 29:26the Father," and I say, "Wow, I want to
be in a connection with that kind of a God -
29:26 - 29:29because look at how awesome Jesus is."
-
29:29 - 29:32Look at the constant love and
acceptance that He showed to everyone. -
29:32 - 29:36But I was going to point out that in verse
15 when Job said, "Though He slay me, -
29:37 - 29:40yet will I trust Him," that
Job sets an example for me. -
29:40 - 29:45When I've been in really difficult times,
and I've had my share, and there's times -
29:45 - 29:49when things have happened unfairly or
whatever, you know, it's very easy to say, -
29:49 - 29:52"God, I'm mad at You," or "Why did You
allow this?" and I've been there, too, -
29:52 - 29:54but Job makes a decision.
-
29:54 - 30:00By an act of his will, he
says, "I will trust Him. -
30:00 - 30:04I don't understand it; it doesn't
make sense, even if He slays me." -
30:04 - 30:07"I'm at the point of death,"
is kind of how he's feeling. -
30:07 - 30:13"I'm suffering from the top of
my head to the soles of my feet, -
30:13 - 30:14and I've lost everything.
-
30:14 - 30:17I'm suffering emotionally; I'm suffering
mentally; I'm suffering physically. -
30:17 - 30:20I'm hurting spiritually because I'm
all messed up in trying to understand -
30:20 - 30:22what God's doing," and yet he
says, "I'm going to trust Him." -
30:22 - 30:28So I see in that the power of a
decision and the power of our words -
30:28 - 30:30and our self-talk.
-
30:30 - 30:34And so, what I've taken from that, in
my experience, there have been times -
30:34 - 30:37when I say, "Okay, God, I don't
get it, but I know You love me. -
30:37 - 30:45I know that Jesus died
for me; He's my Savior. -
30:45 - 30:46I know You want to spend eternity
with me, so I'm trusting You." -
30:46 - 30:48And it's the hardest thing to do when
everything seems like, "He's not even -
30:48 - 30:50blessing you; He doesn't love
me," but I say, "I know You do." -
30:50 - 30:56So I think for me an act of faith is
speaking the words that we know are true -
30:56 - 31:00even when it doesn't
seem to be true for us. -
31:00 - 31:04(Derek) Speaking the words that we know
are true, that have come out of that -
31:04 - 31:08relationship with God, right?
-
31:08 - 31:10What we know.
-
31:10 - 31:10Puia?
-
31:10 - 31:12(Puia) Yes, I think it's important for us
to look back on the past and see where -
31:12 - 31:13God has led us, you know?
-
31:13 - 31:17Or what we like to call mountaintop
experiences where God has shown us... -
31:17 - 31:20(Derek) Maybe even valley
experiences, right? -
31:20 - 31:22(Puia) ...and see how God
has led us through them. -
31:22 - 31:27I think by looking back over how God has
guided us, that can really give us hope -
31:27 - 31:31that God will still bring us through
this current situation that we are in. -
31:31 - 31:33I believe that's what
Job is doing, you know? -
31:33 - 31:37Holding onto God and reminding
himself what God has done for him. -
31:37 - 31:43(Derek) So we're talking about how
we can experience hope in the midst -
31:43 - 31:47of difficult times and how our
understanding of the character of God -
31:47 - 31:49is really important.
-
31:49 - 31:55Did anyone grow up with that kind of
false notion that the three friends -
31:55 - 31:58are sharing, "Well, if
something's happening to you, -
31:58 - 32:01God obviously is judging you"?
-
32:01 - 32:03Did anybody grow up with that?
-
32:03 - 32:05That's really kind of a stumbling block.
-
32:05 - 32:06Anybody?
-
32:06 - 32:07(Nathan) I did.
-
32:07 - 32:08(Derek) Yes, Nathan?
-
32:08 - 32:11That was just your picture
of God growing up. -
32:11 - 32:15(Nathan) Yeah, good people are
blessed, and bad people are cursed. -
32:15 - 32:15(Derek) Okay.
-
32:15 - 32:19(Nathan) A common understanding
that I grew up with, that God is -
32:19 - 32:24kind of looking over you and watching,
and you're going to get what you deserve. -
32:24 - 32:27(Derek) You know, I think a lot
of us grew up with the idea -
32:27 - 32:33that God is more interested in
catching you misbehaving than He is -
32:33 - 32:36in rescuing you from hurting yourself.
-
32:36 - 32:40A different picture of the
character of God, Tricia Lee. -
32:40 - 32:43(Tricia Lee) The opposite is also equally
as damaging, the idea that if you're -
32:43 - 32:47blessed that you must be right with God,
and so if things are going well in my life -
32:47 - 32:50I don't need Him; I'm
probably being favored. -
32:50 - 32:54So you start to slip and let go of
God because you think, you know, -
32:54 - 32:56instead of thinking about the
responsibility you have you think, "Oh, -
32:56 - 33:00I must be okay, so I don't have to do
as much to maintain that relationship -
33:00 - 33:03with him," so both ends
are very dangerous. -
33:03 - 33:08(Derek) I think it was the psalmist Asaph
who said, "I don't understand why these -
33:08 - 33:14wicked people seem to be doing so well,
but then I looked and saw the end," -
33:14 - 33:17so you're saying that
can be confusing, too. -
33:17 - 33:22The righteous are suffering, and sometimes
it seems like the wicked are doing well, -
33:22 - 33:23right?
-
33:23 - 33:25There was another hand raised, Missy.
-
33:25 - 33:26Do you remember what...?
-
33:26 - 33:29(Missy) It was just a personal
experience, and I was going to let it go, -
33:29 - 33:32but since you just let me share...
-
33:32 - 33:40For a long time, through highs and
lows, I've had a connection with God -
33:40 - 33:43where I've really...I'm not trying
to pat myself on the back... -
33:43 - 33:48It's just I have this relationship
with God, and thank God I've had it -
33:48 - 33:54because there have been times that we
have been tried and tried very hard, -
33:54 - 33:59and in those moments I remember calling
out to God saying, "I don't think I have -
33:59 - 34:01the kind of faith You want me to have.
-
34:01 - 34:05I'm just not Abraham, I'm not these big
heroes of faith," you know, "I'm not -
34:05 - 34:09who You want me to be."
-
34:09 - 34:18And I go to my Bible, reading it on
my app, and this passage pops up, -
34:18 - 34:20Lamentations 3:22-26.
-
34:20 - 34:22(Derek) The one that we just read.
-
34:22 - 34:24(Missy) Yes, I mean, just randomly,
-
34:24 - 34:28and I just felt God speaking to
me in those moments, you know. -
34:28 - 34:30Give God the opportunity.
-
34:30 - 34:35Don't let go for any reason whatsoever,
and He will come to your rescue, -
34:35 - 34:43and I have felt rescued by God through
His Word or through words of friends -
34:43 - 34:44time and again.
-
34:44 - 34:48(Derek) And that's a great illustration,
a sequel to where I'd like us to go now, -
34:48 - 34:52and that is some other texts
of Scripture that give you hope -
34:52 - 35:00in the midst of a difficult journey
and also some stories of Scripture -
35:00 - 35:02that illustrate hope.
-
35:02 - 35:07So let's start with some texts
of Scripture that give you hope -
35:07 - 35:10even on a difficult journey.
-
35:10 - 35:12Marianela, did you have one or a story?
-
35:12 - 35:12(Marianela) I have a story.
-
35:12 - 35:13(Derek) Okay,
-
35:13 - 35:19(Marianela) It's Moses when he was with
God and, I can't remember which mountain -
35:19 - 35:25it was, but the people of Israel were just
not following God's commands; they were -
35:25 - 35:30being rebellious, and God says,
"You know, I regret what I did. -
35:30 - 35:34I'm going to destroy them all," and
Moses goes up to Him and says, "No, -
35:34 - 35:39You can't do that; You promised that the
seed of Abraham was going to be blessed -
35:39 - 35:41from generation to generation."
-
35:41 - 35:45And he cried out to God and said,
"You can't do that because Your word, -
35:45 - 35:47You promised in Your Word."
-
35:47 - 35:52I see that story as so powerful because
sometimes we have to come to God -
35:52 - 35:56and say, "You promised, and You said
in Your Word that You would bless -
35:56 - 36:01or You would take care of me; You would
provide for me," even in those times -
36:01 - 36:05where we're feeling like
we can't continue anymore. -
36:05 - 36:08(Derek) And by the way, he didn't
change the heart of God, did he? -
36:08 - 36:09(Team) No.
-
36:09 - 36:12(Derek) Because when God reveals
Himself, He's abundant in mercy -
36:12 - 36:14and lovingkindness, right?
-
36:14 - 36:19It's almost like a reverse psychology
where the Lord says, "Well, -
36:19 - 36:20what do you think?"
-
36:20 - 36:24And, "Well, I think you should do this,"
as if He hadn't already known in His heart -
36:24 - 36:25how He wanted to treat His people.
-
36:25 - 36:33But that illustration of God, we see
God again with Abraham over Sodom -
36:33 - 36:34and Gomorrah, right?
-
36:34 - 36:35Wanting to show compassion.
-
36:35 - 36:36A text of Scripture or an insight?
-
36:36 - 36:38(Tricia Lee) I have another story.
-
36:38 - 36:41In another lesson, Stephanie was sharing
that God can work all things for good. -
36:41 - 36:46I think about Joseph who, I mean, was
betrayed by his own brothers, you know, -
36:46 - 36:48sold into slavery; he was a prisoner.
-
36:48 - 36:52He seemed to have these rises and falls,
but through it all God allowed that -
36:52 - 36:56situation of his life to be a
blessing not only for his own family -
36:56 - 36:59but even for the entire nation of Egypt
he was able to be in the right place -
36:59 - 37:03at the right time to give wisdom and
counsel to save them all from a famine. -
37:03 - 37:07And it's just like, how many times are we
in a place where we feel like we've been -
37:07 - 37:10betrayed, or we feel like we're in some
sort of prison of life, and we see -
37:10 - 37:15no good coming from it, but the end, God
can still use us and bless us and take us -
37:15 - 37:18out of that prison, from
the pit to the palace. -
37:18 - 37:19(Derek) So that gives you hope.
-
37:19 - 37:20(Tricia Lee) It gives me hope.
-
37:20 - 37:22(Derek) You know, I'm thinking
about Joseph just for a minute. -
37:22 - 37:29You might say, "Well, he brought some
of the sibling rivalry upon himself," -
37:29 - 37:32and that's kind of why he
got thrown in the pit. -
37:32 - 37:34Maybe he deserved that a little bit.
-
37:34 - 37:37Some people could argue that, but
when you to Potiphar's wife where he's -
37:37 - 37:42determining to honor God even though
Potiphar's wife is trying to seduce him, -
37:42 - 37:46I mean, there is no way - this
is unjust treatment, you know? -
37:46 - 37:51We'd file a law suit today,
wouldn't we, for sexual harassment? -
37:51 - 37:55So whether sometimes we contribute to
the problem or other times we're just -
37:55 - 38:00totally innocent, we need
hope in the midst of that. -
38:00 - 38:04And the hope you see there was...?
-
38:04 - 38:06(Tricia Lee) That God can use that
tribulation and bring a blessing -
38:06 - 38:08in your life and in others around you.
-
38:08 - 38:08(Derek) All right.
-
38:08 - 38:10Another text or a story, Joshua.
-
38:10 - 38:15(Joshua) I think about Daniel and the
Hebrew boys, but more so the story -
38:15 - 38:17of Daniel, and here's the reason why.
-
38:17 - 38:22Daniel took a stand for God, and
although he was being persecuted -
38:22 - 38:27because of his stand, he didn't have
anyone else supporting him concerning -
38:27 - 38:30the story of him being in the Lion's den.
-
38:30 - 38:34(Derek) You're in Daniel chapter 6
where he's basically commanded that he -
38:34 - 38:37cannot pray to anyone except the king?
-
38:37 - 38:40(Joshua) Yes, and the reason why I
appreciate the story so much is that, -
38:40 - 38:43in my life it seems that every time I'm
taking a stand for God, there's no one -
38:43 - 38:46by my side taking a stand with me.
-
38:46 - 38:49So I always feel alone in the matter.
-
38:49 - 38:53When I look at Hananiah, Mishael,
and Azariah, they had each other. -
38:53 - 38:56They could stand there and say, you know,
"We're brothers; we serve the Lord," -
38:56 - 39:02but I constantly find myself in situations
where it's just me, and I'm by myself. -
39:02 - 39:08I think about Daniel just being in
that lion's den, and, I mean, wow! -
39:08 - 39:13There's nobody else he's looking to around
him like, "Okay, you run from that lion; -
39:13 - 39:14I'll run from this lion."
-
39:14 - 39:22I just think about it, and I say how much
more strength he had coming from God -
39:23 - 39:25because he had no one else to look to.
-
39:25 - 39:28(Derek) I think he knew there were some
other people there in the lion's den -
39:28 - 39:32because the Lord sent His angel, he said,
and shut the lion's mouth, but, yeah. -
39:32 - 39:35By the way, let's talk about that,
too, because that's a great story. -
39:35 - 39:42Should we intentionally seek to surround
ourselves with other people of faith, -
39:42 - 39:47Nathan, that could be a support to
us when we're feeling discouraged? -
39:47 - 39:49(Nathan) Yeah, I was thinking as Joshua
was sharing that Daniel's friends -
39:49 - 39:54must have been praying for him at least,
and even in the opening chapter of Daniel, -
39:54 - 39:59we see that they're united together, and
then in chapter 2 where Daniel is seeking -
39:59 - 40:07time from the king to answer his concern,
Daniel goes to his friends; he says, -
40:07 - 40:08"Pray with me," you know?
-
40:08 - 40:13So we do need to surround ourselves with
friends who can pray for us and lift us up -
40:13 - 40:14and have the same faith.
-
40:14 - 40:20(Derek) We're talking here from Job's
experience about choosing to find hope. -
40:20 - 40:23You said, "I choose to trust God," right?
-
40:23 - 40:25Choosing to find hope
-
40:25 - 40:28because I know the character of God
and have a relationship with Him -
40:28 - 40:31in the midst of suffering
that I may not understand. -
40:31 - 40:32Jason.
-
40:32 - 40:36(Jason) I think of the story of Esther,
where her life and the lives of her people -
40:36 - 40:40were on the line, and she
had to go before the king. -
40:40 - 40:45But before she went before the king,
she had all the people praying for her. -
40:45 - 40:48She had good counsel from her
cousin Mordecai, and so she was -
40:48 - 40:53preparing ahead of time, sort of
in a way like Daniel may have been. -
40:53 - 40:59(Derek) Okay, and of course there,
when she actually is about to go in, -
40:59 - 41:01what does she ask her friends to do?
-
41:01 - 41:02(Team) Fast and pray.
-
41:02 - 41:04(Derek) Fast and pray, right?
-
41:04 - 41:05We've been hearing that
over and over again, -
41:05 - 41:10before I open my mouth in a troubled
situation, with her she's speaking -
41:10 - 41:15to the king, but wherever we are,
let's pray and maybe ask some of our -
41:15 - 41:17godly friends to pray for us, too, right?
-
41:17 - 41:18Yes, Puia.
-
41:18 - 41:22(Puia) I appreciate Tricia Lee bringing
up Joseph, because I believe, you know, -
41:22 - 41:30Joseph's story is such a huge inspiration
for especially young people today -
41:30 - 41:31I would say.
-
41:31 - 41:34All generations but especially today we're bombarded with media every single day,
-
41:34 - 41:38and Joseph's story reminds us of how
important it is to stay faithful to God, -
41:38 - 41:40to stay pure, you know?
-
41:40 - 41:46The enemy wants us to think that we are
missing out once we choose to be faithful -
41:46 - 41:49to God, but the truth is the opposite.
-
41:49 - 41:53When we choose to be faithful for God,
Joseph's story reminds us once again -
41:53 - 41:56that we're not missing out on anything.
-
41:56 - 41:59We're not missing out at all; the end,
the reward, is much, much greater. -
41:59 - 42:03(Derek) Stephanie, I'm going to
come to you next, but how do we... -
42:03 - 42:08We have these stories popping up, and it's
interesting; I asked you text or stories, -
42:08 - 42:11and you're all giving me stories,
which tells me that stories are easy -
42:11 - 42:12to remember, right?
-
42:12 - 42:17So there's a lot of people, they don't
know any of the stories of the Bible, -
42:17 - 42:21how do we get to know these stories
that then the Holy Spirit can bring them -
42:21 - 42:22to our remembrance.
-
42:22 - 42:24Think about that after
Stephanie's comment. -
42:24 - 42:26(Stephanie) Actually I have two verses.
-
42:26 - 42:28(Derek) Oh, you do?! Okay.
-
42:28 - 42:30Well hold the verses just a second then.
-
42:30 - 42:32How do we get to know the stories?
-
42:32 - 42:32What's the answer?
-
42:32 - 42:33(Team) Read them.
-
42:33 - 42:37(Derek) You know, someone told me one
time, "I think I need to get a children's -
42:37 - 42:43Bible story book and just read these Bible
stories and get to know them, so that -
42:43 - 42:47when I'm reading in the Bible and Joseph -
Oh, I know the story of Joseph in Egypt." -
42:47 - 42:50That's not a bad idea
-
42:50 - 42:52to just get to know the
great stories of the Bible. -
42:52 - 42:56Yes, you want to respond to that, and
then I want to go to the Bible texts. -
42:56 - 43:00(Nathan) I was going to say, I came
into the faith late, and I felt like, -
43:00 - 43:03"Boy, little kids know the stories
that I don't know in the Bible." -
43:03 - 43:07So, not only know the stories but then
to contemplate and think about them -
43:07 - 43:09because we can read them, but
every time I hear the stories... -
43:10 - 43:13Sometimes when I'm driving, I just
immerse myself in God's Word by playing -
43:13 - 43:16an audio Bible, and new
insights come every time. -
43:16 - 43:19I'm asking God, "Show me," and even
as you were talking about Joseph, -
43:19 - 43:22I was thinking, yeah, Joshua was making
the point there are times when we're -
43:22 - 43:25all alone; Joseph really
was alone; he had nobody. -
43:25 - 43:29And I was thinking, even his family, his
father thought he was dead, so it wasn't -
43:29 - 43:33like his father was praying, but then I
thought, you know, maybe his brothers. -
43:33 - 43:37They were living with that lie, and they
knew he was alive, but they thought he was -
43:37 - 43:38sold into slavery.
-
43:38 - 43:41I wonder if any of them ever prayed for
him because they were feeling God's burden -
43:41 - 43:44on their heart, and they were praying,
"Lord, wherever Joseph is, I hope that -
43:44 - 43:46you're blessing him."
-
43:46 - 43:47(Derek) Yes.
-
43:47 - 43:48(Nathan) So maybe he wasn't completely
alone in that regard, but we know that -
43:48 - 43:50God was with him, and we read those
very words, "God was with him." -
43:50 - 43:56I'm thinking of Puia's comment that the
mountaintops can help us get through, -
43:56 - 43:57and you mentioned and the valleys, too.
-
43:57 - 44:01There is a quote by Billy Graham
that's meaningful to me, and he said, -
44:01 - 44:05"Mountaintops are for views and
inspiration, but the fruit is grown -
44:05 - 44:10in the valley," and that's in those
deep, dark times in our lives when God is -
44:10 - 44:12growing fruit in our lives,
I believe, spiritual fruit. -
44:12 - 44:16(Derek) Because we know Him,
and we refuse to let go. -
44:16 - 44:19But again, lest we think, "Oh, wow,
this is really important; I think I'm -
44:19 - 44:24going to...," underneath us are the arms
of a loving God because, like you said, -
44:24 - 44:28Missy, in another discussion,
we've made the choice, right? -
44:28 - 44:32Confess our sins, ask Him to
cleanse us, accept His salvation. -
44:32 - 44:35We're going to hold on, and that's going
to take us to some texts, Stephanie. -
44:35 - 44:39I know you know the Bible well; which
ones come to your mind that give us hope -
44:39 - 44:44sometimes when we don't understand, but
we're trusting the character of God? -
44:44 - 44:47(Stephanie) Two verses, they're short
verses, but I like to couple them -
44:47 - 44:50together, and the first
one is in Luke 1:37. -
44:50 - 44:52(Derek) Let's go there first then.
-
44:52 - 44:55(Stephanie) And then the
second one is Job 26, verse 7. -
44:55 - 44:59(Derek) Okay, let's find
Luke 1; did you say Luke 1? -
44:59 - 45:02(Stephanie) Luke 1:37 and then Job 26:7.
-
45:02 - 45:04(Derek) You'll have to remind us of
the second one when we get there. -
45:04 - 45:05(Stephanie) Okay.
-
45:05 - 45:12(Derek) Let's go to Luke 1:37 first.
-
45:12 - 45:15(Stephanie) I'll be reading from
the New King James Version: -
45:18 - 45:19(Derek) Context?
-
45:19 - 45:22Who's speaking and to whom
is the person speaking? -
45:22 - 45:24Answer, anybody?
-
45:24 - 45:26Who's speaking?
-
45:26 - 45:27(Team) An angel.
-
45:27 - 45:28(Derek) An angel, right.
-
45:28 - 45:29And speaking to?
-
45:29 - 45:30(Team) Mary.
-
45:30 - 45:32(Derek) Yup, "For with God..."?
-
45:32 - 45:34(Derek, Team) "Nothing
will be impossible." -
45:34 - 45:35(Derek) Okay.
-
45:35 - 45:37(Nathan) It was the angel Gabriel.
-
45:37 - 45:39(Derek) All right, that's the
leading, archangel, right? -
45:39 - 45:40Gabriel.
-
45:40 - 45:43He's speaking the truth.
-
45:43 - 45:46By the way, if what we've studied
in Scripture is true, at one point, -
45:46 - 45:49Satan, once called Lucifer,
was a covering angel. -
45:49 - 45:53So one's speaking lies
and now in rebellion, -
45:53 - 45:56and one is sent by God
to speak the truth, amen? -
45:56 - 45:57(Team) Amen.
-
45:57 - 45:59(Derek) But "with God nothing will
be impossible," and the other verse? -
45:59 - 46:02(Stephanie) The second
one is in Job 26, verse 7. -
46:02 - 46:04(Derek) Job 26.
-
46:04 - 46:09(Stephanie) Verse 7, and this is
Job talking about God at creation. -
46:09 - 46:12(Derek) Okay, just give
us a moment to find that. -
46:12 - 46:14Job 26...?
-
46:14 - 46:15(Stephanie) Verse 7.
-
46:15 - 46:16(Derek) And verse 7.
-
46:16 - 46:19(Stephanie) And it says in
the New King James Version: -
46:26 - 46:30And I feel like this is backing
up that God can do anything. -
46:30 - 46:37He can take something out of absolutely
nothing and then hang it on nothing. -
46:37 - 46:44So when I read the verse that nothing
is impossible with God, I believe it -
46:44 - 46:46because He can do anything.
-
46:46 - 46:52And even if I can't see the good that's
going to come out of it, I have to trust -
46:52 - 46:56that if He can do that, He can take
care of my little issue in life. -
46:56 - 46:59(Derek) Yeah, I know my
Redeemers lives, right? -
46:59 - 47:03Another Bible text, anyone,
that can give us hope, -
47:03 - 47:07and, you know, maybe one the Holy Spirit
just brings to your remembrance now. -
47:07 - 47:09Yes, Tricia Lee.
-
47:09 - 47:13(Tricia Lee) I like 1 Corinthians
chapter 10 and verse 13. -
47:13 - 47:16(Derek) Okay, someone's watching
Hope Sabbath School today, -
47:16 - 47:21and this verse is going to become an
anchor for her, an anchor for him, -
47:21 - 47:25as we talk about choosing to trust
a God we've come to know and love -
47:25 - 47:28even when we don't understand
because things are hard. -
47:28 - 47:301 Corinthians 10:13?
-
47:30 - 47:32(Tricia Lee) I'm reading from
the New King James Version: -
47:51 - 47:54(Derek) Now we have an
advantage that Job did not have. -
47:54 - 47:55What is our advantage?
-
47:55 - 47:56(Team) Scripture.
-
47:56 - 47:59(Derek) That's right, we have
these texts that we're reading, -
47:59 - 48:03given, according to Peter,
under inspiration of God, right? -
48:03 - 48:06This one given by the apostle Paul.
-
48:06 - 48:09So we have the advantage
that we can go to that. -
48:09 - 48:11What did Job have?
-
48:11 - 48:13What did he have, anybody?
-
48:13 - 48:16He had his experience with God.
-
48:16 - 48:17What else did he have?
-
48:17 - 48:20(Marianela) He chose to make a
commitment with God. -
48:20 - 48:23(Derek) Yeah, he has made a commitment,
but in terms of knowing about God, -
48:23 - 48:24what else did he have?
-
48:24 - 48:26(Team Member) He had a
relationship with God. -
48:26 - 48:27(Nathan) Passed-on knowledge.
-
48:27 - 48:30(Derek) He had passed-on knowledge that
was passed down through the patriarchs. -
48:30 - 48:32(Nathan) The promise of the Redeemer.
-
48:32 - 48:35(Derek) The promise of a Redeemer coming
because he speaks about the Redeemer, -
48:35 - 48:36but what else did he have?
-
48:36 - 48:38(Puia) General revelation through nature.
-
48:38 - 48:41(Derek) That's right; he had the
general revelation through nature -
48:41 - 48:45where he speaks about, "I think God
can hang something on nothing," right? -
48:45 - 48:53He can speak worlds into
existence, so he has nature. -
48:53 - 48:57In other words, he's taking everything
that's available to him, and he's saying, -
48:57 - 48:59"I choose to trust that God."
-
48:59 - 49:02(Tricia Lee) I just wanted to make a
comment about that Scripture I read. -
49:02 - 49:05I think what's most encouraging about
it is not the fact that, yes, it's -
49:05 - 49:09encouraging that God can make a way of
escape, but I love where it says that God -
49:09 - 49:14is faithful, and it's like even if we
have our questions or doubts, or we're -
49:14 - 49:17struggling, and we don't know what the
answers are, even if we are doubting -
49:17 - 49:21and we are struggling with our own faith,
God is faithful, and He is those arms -
49:21 - 49:23that is carrying us.
-
49:23 - 49:26That gives me encouragement that, even
if I'm failing miserably, I can trust -
49:27 - 49:29in a God who's faithful and can
carry me through something. -
49:29 - 49:32It doesn't depend upon how
strong I am in the moment. -
49:32 - 49:35I could be the weakest Christian ever,
but because of God's faithfulness, -
49:35 - 49:37he can take me through it.
-
49:37 - 49:39(Derek) And that's back to
knowing the character of God. -
49:39 - 49:43Isn't there somewhere it says, "Even when
we're unfaithful, He is faithful for He -
49:43 - 49:44cannot deny Himself"?
-
49:44 - 49:46I love that.
-
49:46 - 49:50All right, we've got 17 hands raised,
so I'm going to work my way down. -
49:50 - 49:51Joshua.
-
49:51 - 49:55(Joshua) Something I want to mention,
going back to a comment that Nathan made. -
49:55 - 49:59Nathan, you mentioned that when you
were older you were looking and saying, -
49:59 - 50:03"Oh, you know, these little children
know stories that I'm only now learning." -
50:03 - 50:08And for any parent that may be out
there, I want them to understand that -
50:08 - 50:15it's very important to teach your child
how to really study the Word of God -
50:15 - 50:19for themselves and to build a
relationship with God through them, -
50:19 - 50:23because growing up, what I saw is that
we knew a lot of different Bible stories -
50:23 - 50:28simply because we were watching
Bible cartoons, or simply because we -
50:28 - 50:33were watching a Bible movie or something,
but it was not that we were studying -
50:33 - 50:36on our own and really trying to
get to know God for ourselves. -
50:36 - 50:38(Derek) That relationship or connection.
-
50:38 - 50:40(Joshua) Yes, those are two
completely different things. -
50:40 - 50:46And when I became an adult, I saw that the
adults that came to Jesus at an older age -
50:46 - 50:52were seeking Him because of
the true essence of who He was, -
50:52 - 50:58not simply based on their
culture that they grew up in. -
50:58 - 50:59Do you see what I mean?
-
50:59 - 51:00(Derek) Right, right.
-
51:00 - 51:02(Joshua) And so I think we should all
strive to really know God for ourselves, -
51:02 - 51:04and we should teach our
children to do the same. -
51:04 - 51:05(Derek) Going to come
to the next sentence, -
51:05 - 51:07so it's not just about information...
-
51:07 - 51:08(Joshua) Right.
-
51:08 - 51:10(Derek) ...it's about relationship, right?
-
51:10 - 51:11(Team) Amen.
-
51:11 - 51:15(Derek) So when I hear the story of Daniel
in the Lion's Den, I don't just know that -
51:15 - 51:19for a Bible quiz, but I say, "I want that
relationship with God that Daniel had. -
51:19 - 51:23I want to trust Him even in the
lion's den even in difficult times." -
51:23 - 51:24Marianela.
-
51:24 - 51:31(Marianela) I admire Job so much after
all this study because I see, like in, -
51:31 - 51:33if we go to chapter 31...
-
51:33 - 51:36(Derek) You want to get ahead
to the end of the story? -
51:36 - 51:37(Marianela) Yeah.
-
51:37 - 51:39(Derek) You can do that, Job 31.
-
51:39 - 51:45(Marianela) I just have such an admiration
for what he says in these four verses. -
51:45 - 51:49Job 31, verses 1 through 4.
-
51:49 - 51:54(Derek) It reminds me of a story
where a little boy was so distressed, -
51:54 - 51:57and then a little later he was
really happy, and his daddy said, -
51:57 - 51:58"What happened?"
-
51:58 - 52:01He said, "I read the end of the
book; it's going to be okay." -
52:01 - 52:05Sometimes we like to hear the end
of the story, but you're in Job...? -
52:05 - 52:06(Marianela) 31.
-
52:06 - 52:07(Derek) 31.
-
52:07 - 52:09(Marianela) Verses 1 through 4.
-
52:09 - 52:10(Derek) Verses 1 through 4.
-
52:10 - 52:11(Marianela) I just want to admire him.
-
52:11 - 52:19He didn't have all the verses
that we have today to claim... -
52:19 - 52:20(Derek) To give us hope.
-
52:20 - 52:25(Marianela) ...to give us hope, to
let us know that God can do anything. -
52:25 - 52:30Anything is not impossible for God, you
know, but he chose to make this covenant -
52:30 - 52:34with the Lord, and his commitment in
his heart to fear Him, not out of just -
52:34 - 52:42fear or to be afraid of Him but to
stand up boldly for God's promises -
52:42 - 52:43and God's commandments.
-
52:43 - 52:47(Derek) Okay, read for us
Job 31, verses 1 through 4. -
53:08 - 53:16And it makes me think of just how
faithful he was even with his eyes, -
53:16 - 53:19with the purity inside of him, you know,
-
53:19 - 53:24that, the admiration, what a
character to follow, you know? -
53:24 - 53:29(Derek) It's kind of like, I guess
there is comfort and hope in this, -
53:29 - 53:34"God, even when everyone else is
misunderstanding me, You know my heart." -
53:34 - 53:35(Team) Yes, amen.
-
53:35 - 53:37(Derek) Right?
-
53:37 - 53:40"You know my heart, God," and you
say, "Well, what if he had sinned?" -
53:40 - 53:42Well, "God, I confess my sin;
I ask You to cleanse me. -
53:42 - 53:43You know my heart."
-
53:43 - 53:45That's a beautiful thing.
-
53:45 - 53:49"You count my steps; You know
all things, but You know me." -
53:49 - 53:51We've got time for one more.
-
53:51 - 53:53We've got several hands
that are raised here. -
53:53 - 53:58Let me start with Nathan and go back to
Puia, either a Bible text or a reflection. -
53:58 - 54:04The key lesson I'm learning in this
study is that that relationship with God, -
54:04 - 54:10knowing Him and His character and having
a connection with Him, will give me hope -
54:10 - 54:13even when I don't understand
everything that's going on around me. -
54:13 - 54:14Nathan.
-
54:14 - 54:17(Nathan) I love Paul's encouragement
to the Philippian believers -
54:17 - 54:19in Philippians 1:6.
-
54:19 - 54:19(Derek) Okay.
-
54:19 - 54:23(Nathan) He writes his letter to the
Philippian church, and he reminds them -
54:23 - 54:25of something that I need to remember, too.
-
54:25 - 54:28I need to be reminded,
you know, that God... -
54:28 - 54:29(Derek) Read it for us, if you would.
-
54:29 - 54:32(Nathan) Philippians 1:6 from
the New King James Version: -
54:41 - 54:44(Derek) So that reminds us of what Puia
said, remembering how God has worked -
54:44 - 54:49in our lives to this point, and I'm going
to choose to trust Him and hold on. -
54:49 - 54:50Puia.
-
54:50 - 54:54(Puia) Yes, I would like to read this verse from 2 Corinthians chapter 4, verse 18.
-
54:54 - 54:56(Derek) Okay, 2 Corinthians.
-
54:56 - 54:59(Puia) 2 Corinthians chapter 4, verse 18.
-
54:59 - 55:01(Derek) Chapter 4 and verse 18.
-
55:01 - 55:02(Puia) Yes.
-
55:02 - 55:04(Derek) Give us just a moment to find it.
-
55:04 - 55:10This is giving you hope even when
we're passing through a difficult time. -
55:10 - 55:11We're going to hold onto God.
-
55:11 - 55:13How does it read in your Bible?
-
55:13 - 55:15(Puia) I'll be reading from
the New King James Version: -
55:27 - 55:28(Team) Amen.
-
55:28 - 55:31(Puia) So when my faith is being tested,
I hold onto the faith, that even though -
55:31 - 55:34I cannot see, I cannot
understand everything right now, -
55:34 - 55:38I hold onto that faith that something
is out there - God is out there. -
55:38 - 55:40I cannot see Him, but I know.
-
55:40 - 55:43(Derek) So when is the best time?
-
55:43 - 55:47We've talked about, Marianela, you
said even in little trials I can learn -
55:47 - 55:51God is trustworthy so that when bigger
trials come, I'm going to keep holding on -
55:51 - 55:56even when I don't understand, but when is
the best time to develop that relationship -
55:56 - 56:00with God, knowing who He is, that
gives us hope no matter what we face? -
56:00 - 56:02When's the best time, Stephanie?
-
56:02 - 56:04(Stephanie) Preferably
before the trials come. -
56:04 - 56:05(Derek) All right.
-
56:05 - 56:08(Stephanie) But the trials sometimes
are where people learn to trust God. -
56:08 - 56:11(Derek) All right, preferably before.
-
56:11 - 56:13Anybody else, when's the best time?
-
56:13 - 56:14(Team) Right now!
-
56:14 - 56:16(Derek) Now, okay, right now.
-
56:16 - 56:18I was hoping for one word
rather than a long discussion. -
56:18 - 56:25The best time to get to know God, not
just know about Him but know Him, is now. -
56:25 - 56:27(Team) Yes.
-
56:27 - 56:28(Derek) And that's what
we've learned in our study. -
56:28 - 56:31We'll trust Him and His character of love.
-
56:31 - 56:34We're going to hold onto Him
even through the dark valley. -
56:34 - 56:38That's a lesson that will guide our lives,
but it's more than for us, isn't it? -
56:38 - 56:42Because there's so many people, "I don't
understand; I don't know where to go," -
56:42 - 56:45and there's a whisper, "Just
curse God and give up." -
56:45 - 56:46No, no.
-
56:46 - 56:49We know the God of
hope can comfort us. -
56:49 - 56:52He is with us always, even
to the end of the age. -
56:52 - 56:54We'll choose to hold onto Him.
