5 Ways To Fix YouTube

  • Not Synced
What's going on guys, I am Matthias,
  • Not Synced
with all that's come to light in recent events
  • Not Synced
    regarding YouTube copyright issues,
  • Not Synced
creators, and more. One of the most
  • Not Synced
popular questions that I often get is
  • Not Synced
how do you think we should fix this problem?
  • Not Synced
Fair enough, that is a really good question because
  • Not Synced
it's not really right of me to poke at a
  • Not Synced
system and say "It's not working," and not provide details on
  • Not Synced
potentially how we can get it to work.
  • Not Synced
    So I compiled a list
  • Not Synced
of five different things that I believe will
  • Not Synced
keep YouTube on track as the
  • Not Synced
number one video sharing and consuming
  • Not Synced
    social media site.
  • Not Synced
Also if you clicked on this video,
  • Not Synced
    that means you're somewhat already
  • Not Synced
invested in YouTube or in its creators
  • Not Synced
and it would really help out if you
  • Not Synced
would click the link down in the
  • Not Synced
description below to share this video
  • Not Synced
and tweet it to the CEO of YouTube
  • Not Synced
so that hopefully, some of the things
  • Not Synced
might be changed in the future.
  • Not Synced
    Number 1: Enforcing Community Guidelines
  • Not Synced
There are wealth of channels that
  • Not Synced
    consistently abuse YouTube's community guidelines.
  • Not Synced
And not only are they not
  • Not Synced
punished by breaking these rules, it seems
  • Not Synced
as if there are rewarded with all of their
  • Not Synced
    views and thus monetary compensation.
  • Not Synced
I'm gonna link to a video that I linked
  • Not Synced
last time by GradeAUnderA about just the
  • Not Synced
absurdity of the breaking of these
  • Not Synced
    community guidelines by so many
  • Not Synced
    huge and small creators.
  • Not Synced
In that video he talked some great
  • Not Synced
deal about the abuse and how it's
  • Not Synced
    consistently happening.
  • Not Synced
It seems that the only way something
  • Not Synced
like this is ever gonna be fixed
  • Not Synced
    is by actually enforcing your
  • Not Synced
    community guidelines and
  • Not Synced
    removing the channels that break
  • Not Synced
    these guidelines.
  • Not Synced
But YouTube has three hundred hours of
  • Not Synced
    content uploaded every minute,
  • Not Synced
and it's almost impossible for you to
  • Not Synced
pour over all of that content
  • Not Synced
and see if it's breaking those
  • Not Synced
    guidelines or not.
  • Not Synced
They just simply don't have the
  • Not Synced
    manpower to do so.
  • Not Synced
    Then hire more people, it's
  • Not Synced
    really not that difficult.
  • Not Synced
    We're not expecting you to
  • Not Synced
    look over every single
  • Not Synced
    minutiae of detail.
  • Not Synced
We're expecting you to at least
  • Not Synced
look over the huge channels that
  • Not Synced
    are breaking these rules just
  • Not Synced
    blatantly -- publicly.
  • Not Synced
    They definitely need a
  • Not Synced
    bigger team monitoring and
  • Not Synced
    enforcing these guidelines.
  • Not Synced
    What else is the flagging
  • Not Synced
function on a video for anyways, if not
  • Not Synced
to alert the team at YouTube that "Hey,
  • Not Synced
this video is breaking a guideline."
  • Not Synced
It's as simple as a solution to a
  • Not Synced
    simple problem.
  • Not Synced
    Number 2:
  • Not Synced
    The Comment System
  • Not Synced
    I'm actually still kinda
  • Not Synced
    surprised that these issues
  • Not Synced
still exist in the comment system
  • Not Synced
from everything that we've been through
  • Not Synced
with the fail that Google+ experiment and
  • Not Synced
    everything like that.
  • Not Synced
To fix the comment system, we're not gonna
  • Not Synced
require you to rewrite the entire code
  • Not Synced
    of the comment.
  • Not Synced
    It's not gonna require that.
  • Not Synced
We just need a couple of bugs fixed so
  • Not Synced
that it will maintain a really positive
  • Not Synced
    environment.
  • Not Synced
Why is that when people like a comment
  • Not Synced
or upvote a comment that totally works
  • Not Synced
and yet when you downvote a comment
  • Not Synced
that doesn't work. It just doesn't register
  • Not Synced
as a downvote. That creates such
  • Not Synced
a hostile environment in the comments
  • Not Synced
even for creators like myself who have a
  • Not Synced
    largely positive community.
  • Not Synced
I have seriously less than one percent,
  • Not Synced
maybe even less than a half a percent of
  • Not Synced
viewers that either just disrespect me
  • Not Synced
or just say blatantly racist or bigoted
  • Not Synced
    things. Going right something,
  • Not Synced
and then that small fraction see that
  • Not Synced
    comment and upvote it.
  • Not Synced
So it just all rises to the top.
  • Not Synced
And that's such an easy fix if the
  • Not Synced
    downvote function just worked.
  • Not Synced
    Because ultimately there's a huge
  • Not Synced
    difference between constructive
  • Not Synced
    criticism and just blatant hate.
  • Not Synced
As far as structure goes, think about
  • Not Synced
having a threaded system, similar to
  • Not Synced
Reddit. They got this system right and
  • Not Synced
what it does is create even more
  • Not Synced
    engagement for their community rather
  • Not Synced
than a bunch of spam. This is all largely
  • Not Synced
in part due to their upvote and downvote
  • Not Synced
system. Why is it when I comment and I
  • Not Synced
spent hours and hours commenting on my own
  • Not Synced
videos that I refresh the page and all of
  • Not Synced
my comments are just gone. It doesn't even
  • Not Synced
look like I respond to any comments in the
  • Not Synced
video at all. My comments and replies on
  • Not Synced
my channel and my videos should float
  • Not Synced
to the top and not be buried.
  • Not Synced
And if I could just nick-pick for a
  • Not Synced
second, what's with tagging the names
  • Not Synced
in the comments. I mean I understand that
  • Not Synced
it's supposed to notify the user, but
  • Not Synced
there are more efficient ways of doing
  • Not Synced
this on the backend. Number 1,
  • Not Synced
it's unformatted and there's no bold,
  • Not Synced
it's not colored, it's not underlined.
  • Not Synced
Number 2, the thread is partially indented,
  • Not Synced
so if you're initially replying to just
  • Not Synced
one comment, you already know who you're
  • Not Synced
replying to. And Number 3, some usernames
  • Not Synced
are just so absurd, their just strings of
  • Not Synced
numbers and characters and without proper
  • Not Synced
formatting, you're forcing your the user
  • Not Synced
or reader to attempt to read that weird
  • Not Synced
username before the comment, and that is
  • Not Synced
    incredibly slow, and inefficient,
  • Not Synced
and just honestly wasting everyone's time.
  • Not Synced
If these simple things were fixed, I
  • Not Synced
really feel like it would do a lot for
  • Not Synced
your platform and community because it
  • Not Synced
would put focus back on ideas rather than
  • Not Synced
    on incoherent spam, racism, hate.
  • Not Synced
    Number 3:
  • Not Synced
    The Dreaded Subscription Feed
  • Not Synced
To say that my videos aren't being (4:38)
