9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 What's going on guys, I am Matthias, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 with all that's come to light in recent events 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 regarding YouTube copyright issues, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 creators, and more. One of the most 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 popular questions that I often get is 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 how do you think we should fix this problem? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Fair enough, that is a really good question because 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 it's not really right of me to poke at a 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 system and say "It's not working," and not provide details on 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 potentially how we can get it to work. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So I compiled a list 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 of five different things that I believe will 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 keep YouTube on track as the 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 number one video sharing and consuming 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 social media site. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Also if you clicked on this video, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that means you're somewhat already 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 invested in YouTube or in its creators 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and it would really help out if you 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 would click the link down in the 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 description below to share this video 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and tweet it to the CEO of YouTube 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 so that hopefully, some of the things 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 might be changed in the future. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Number 1: Enforcing Community Guidelines 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 There are wealth of channels that 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 consistently abuse YouTube's community guidelines. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And not only are they not 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 punished by breaking these rules, it seems 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 as if there are rewarded with all of their 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 views and thus monetary compensation. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I'm gonna link to a video that I linked 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 last time by GradeAUnderA about just the 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 absurdity of the breaking of these 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 community guidelines by so many 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 huge and small creators. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 In that video he talked some great 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 deal about the abuse and how it's 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 consistently happening. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 It seems that the only way something 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 like this is ever gonna be fixed 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 is by actually enforcing your 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 community guidelines and 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 removing the channels that break 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 these guidelines. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 But YouTube has three hundred hours of 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 content uploaded every minute, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and it's almost impossible for you to 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 pour over all of that content 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and see if it's breaking those 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 guidelines or not. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 They just simply don't have the 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 manpower to do so. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Then hire more people, it's 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 really not that difficult. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 We're not expecting you to 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 look over every single 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 minutiae of detail. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 We're expecting you to at least 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 look over the huge channels that 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 are breaking these rules just 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 blatantly -- publicly. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 They definitely need a 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 bigger team monitoring and 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 enforcing these guidelines. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 What else is the flagging 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 function on a video for anyways, if not 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 to alert the team at YouTube that "Hey, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 this video is breaking a guideline." 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 It's as simple as a solution to a 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 simple problem. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Number 2: 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 The Comment System 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I'm actually still kinda 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 surprised that these issues 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 still exist in the comment system 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 from everything that we've been through 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 with the fail that Google+ experiment and 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 everything like that. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 To fix the comment system, we're not gonna 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 require you to rewrite the entire code 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 of the comment. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 It's not gonna require that. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 We just need a couple of bugs fixed so 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that it will maintain a really positive 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 environment. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Why is that when people like a comment 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 or upvote a comment that totally works 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and yet when you downvote a comment 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that doesn't work. It just doesn't register 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 as a downvote. That creates such 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 a hostile environment in the comments 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 even for creators like myself who have a 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 largely positive community. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I have seriously less than one percent, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 maybe even less than a half a percent of 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 viewers that either just disrespect me 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 or just say blatantly racist or bigoted 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 things. Going right something, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and then that small fraction see that 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 comment and upvote it. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So it just all rises to the top. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And that's such an easy fix if the 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 downvote function just worked. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Because ultimately there's a huge 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 difference between constructive 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 criticism and just blatant hate. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 As far as structure goes, think about 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 having a threaded system, similar to 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Reddit. They got this system right and 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 what it does is create even more 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 engagement for their community rather 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 than a bunch of spam. This is all largely 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 in part due to their upvote and downvote 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 system. Why is it when I comment and I 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 spent hours and hours commenting on my own 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 videos that I refresh the page and all of 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 my comments are just gone. It doesn't even 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 look like I respond to any comments in the 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 video at all. My comments and replies on 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 my channel and my videos should float 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 to the top and not be buried. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And if I could just nick-pick for a 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 second, what's with tagging the names 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 in the comments. I mean I understand that 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 it's supposed to notify the user, but 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 there are more efficient ways of doing 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 this on the backend. Number 1, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 it's unformatted and there's no bold, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 it's not colored, it's not underlined. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Number 2, the thread is partially indented, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 so if you're initially replying to just 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 one comment, you already know who you're 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 replying to. And Number 3, some usernames 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 are just so absurd, their just strings of 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 numbers and characters and without proper 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 formatting, you're forcing your the user 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 or reader to attempt to read that weird 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 username before the comment, and that is 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 incredibly slow, and inefficient, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and just honestly wasting everyone's time. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 If these simple things were fixed, I 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 really feel like it would do a lot for 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 your platform and community because it 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 would put focus back on ideas rather than 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 on incoherent spam, racism, hate. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Number 3: 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 The Dreaded Subscription Feed 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 To say that my videos aren't being (4:38)
