    You see?
  • 1:55 - 1:57
    Look, look, look.
  • 1:57 - 2:09
    There are more coming.
  • 2:09 - 2:12
    Hello.
  • 2:12 - 2:18
    Good morning.
  • 2:18 - 2:22
    So, an open casting, Sebastian?
    Fucking great.
  • 2:22 - 2:24
I told you this would happen.
  • 2:24 - 2:26
    Hello.
  • 2:26 - 2:32
    Good morning.
  • 2:32 - 2:39
    Excuse me.
  • 2:39 - 2:42
    How's it going?
  • 2:42 - 2:45
They all want to be seen,
    and there are hundreds...
  • 2:45 - 2:46
    Okay, well, tell them
    that we don't need anymore.
  • 2:46 - 2:48
We'll just see the ones here.
    The rest can leave.
  • 2:48 - 2:50
No, Costa, wait, we can't do that.
  • 2:50 - 2:52
Shit, we can't see them all,
    Sebastian.
  • 2:52 - 2:56
If you prefer, pick the ones you like
and get rid of the rest.
  • 2:56 - 2:58
But do it now! Come on.
  • 2:58 - 3:02
    Come on.
  • 3:02 - 3:11
    Come on.
    Choose the ones you like.
  • 3:11 - 3:12
    - Hello.
    - Pleasure.
  • 3:12 - 3:14
Could you go with the girl? Yes?
  • 3:14 - 3:22
    How are you?
  • 3:22 - 3:24
    Go ahead.
    Yes, go ahead.
  • 3:24 - 3:26
    They're very good.
  • 3:26 - 3:28
    - How many men are going?
    - Five, and two women.
  • 3:28 - 3:30
    Okay, okay. Okay.
  • 3:30 - 3:32
    - Hello. Could you go?
    - Yes.
  • 3:32 - 3:34
    Yeah?
    Thank you.
  • 3:34 - 3:36
And we're not going to go?
  • 3:36 - 3:37
    Uh, yes.
  • 3:37 - 3:39
    Okay, in a -- in a minute.
  • 3:39 - 3:40
    - Sebastian?
    - What?
  • 3:40 - 3:42
    - We've got enough.
    - Already?
  • 3:42 - 3:46
We've got more than enough inside,
    and this is pointless.
  • 3:46 - 3:48
We have to tell them to leave.
  • 3:48 - 3:50
    Well, apologize to them.
  • 3:50 - 3:56
    - This can't be.
    - Come with me, please.
  • 3:56 - 3:58
    Sorry, sorry.
    We're very sorry, really.
  • 3:58 - 4:01
    I'm sorry.
    We don't need anyone else.
  • 4:01 - 4:04
    No, we can't see everybody.
    There are too many.
  • 4:04 - 4:06
No, no, you have to be able to.
    We've been waiting for hours.
  • 4:06 - 4:09
    You have to go, gentlemen.
    We can't see anyone else.
  • 4:09 - 4:10
    No, Ma'am, we're not leaving.
  • 4:10 - 4:12
    We're going to wait here
    until we're seen.
  • 4:12 - 4:14
    - Listen, didn't you hear her?
    - I did, but --
  • 4:14 - 4:15
    You have to leave.
  • 4:15 - 4:17
    You have to go.
  • 4:17 - 4:18
    - Get out of here!
    - Hey, bastard!
  • 4:18 - 4:20
    Get out of here!
    You have to leave!
  • 4:20 - 4:23
    Enough! Enough!
  • 4:23 - 4:28
    - Enough! Enough!
    - What's going on?
  • 4:28 - 4:30
    Easy, easy, easy, easy, easy!
  • 4:30 - 4:32
Calm down, calm down, calm down!
  • 4:32 - 4:35
    What's wrong?
  • 4:35 - 4:37
    "Everyone gets a chance."
  • 4:37 - 4:39
    That's what it says.
And my girl wants to act.
  • 4:39 - 4:42
    Yeah, her and 200 others,
but we can't see them all, understand?
  • 4:42 - 4:45
    You don't understand, white face.
    We've been waiting for hours.
  • 4:45 - 4:47
Some have come from very far
    on foot.
  • 4:47 - 4:50
Now you tell us to leave.
You have to see all of us.
  • 4:50 - 4:52
    We're not leaving
    until you see us all.
  • 4:52 - 4:57
    We're not moving from here!
  • 4:57 - 5:02
    Tell him anything,
    but get rid of him.
  • 5:02 - 5:03
    - What's your name?
    - Daniel.
  • 5:03 - 5:04
    Daniel.
  • 5:04 - 5:08
    All right, Daniel's right.
    We're going to see everyone.
  • 5:08 - 5:09
    - Fuck!
    - Okay?
  • 5:09 - 5:12
    We'll see you all,
no matter how long it takes.
  • 5:12 - 5:13
    Sebastian, we have to leave.
  • 5:13 - 5:17
    Yes, calmly, though, calmly.
    Okay? Okay.
  • 5:17 - 5:19
    Film that bastard for me.
  • 5:19 - 5:22
    And his daughter, too.
    He's good.
  • 5:22 - 5:46
    Okay, as you heard,
    we're going to see everyone.
  • 5:46 - 6:04
    - Let's go!
    - Let's go.
  • 6:04 - 6:14
    EVEN THE RAIN
  • 6:14 - 6:16
    Costa, are you crazy?
  • 6:16 - 6:19
    Slow down!
  • 6:19 - 6:21
    Sebastian, tell me something.
  • 6:21 - 6:25
    We're in Bolivia.
    It doesn't make much sense.
  • 6:25 - 6:28
    Because we're 7,500 feet
    above sea level,
  • 6:28 - 6:30
    surrounded by mountains,
  • 6:30 - 6:32
    and thousands of miles
    from the Caribbean.
  • 6:32 - 6:35
    Well, Costa thinks
    Columbus landed by parachute.
  • 6:35 - 6:38
    No, Costa knows this place
    is full of starving natives,
  • 6:38 - 6:40
and that means thousands of extras.
  • 6:40 - 6:42
    None of that digital shit.
  • 6:42 - 6:44
    l want scale,
all the money up on the screen.
  • 6:44 - 6:47
    No, Costa, no.
This could be a mess, really.
  • 6:47 - 6:49
    Have you seen their faces?
    Please, they're Quechua.
  • 6:49 - 6:50
    - So?
    - What do you mean, "so?"
  • 6:50 - 6:52
    They're from the Andes!
  • 6:52 - 6:55
    What's Columbus doing
    with natives from the Andes?
  • 6:55 - 6:57
    From the Andes or wherever,
    they're natives.
  • 6:57 - 7:00
    - That's what you wanted, isn't it?
    - Oh, no, no, no, no.
  • 7:00 - 7:03
    Give me a fucking break.
    They're all the same.
  • 7:03 - 7:04
    No.
  • 7:04 - 7:09
You can negotiate things here --
    hotels, transport, catering, whatever.
  • 7:09 - 7:11
    So, it's about money.
  • 7:11 - 7:13
    Yes, yes!
    It's always money, always, always.
  • 7:13 - 7:16
    Well, in this case,
    very little money, right?
  • 7:16 - 7:18
    Right, you miserable cheapskate?
  • 7:18 - 7:21
    If we'd filmed in English,
    we'd have double the money
  • 7:21 - 7:22
    and double the audience.
  • 7:22 - 7:24
    Almost had the deal done
    till you fucked it up.
  • 7:24 - 7:26
    Because Spaniards speak Spanish.
  • 7:26 - 7:28
What if we'd done it in English?
  • 7:28 - 7:30
    We'd have been fucking smart.
  • 7:30 - 7:32
    So, the Spaniards speak Spanish,
  • 7:32 - 7:36
and the Tainos that Columbus found
    speak Quechua?
  • 7:36 - 7:39
Is that how you're going to be?
  • 7:39 - 7:42
    l just want to know.
    l just want to know.
  • 7:42 - 7:51
    We'll do it, Sebastian!
  • 7:51 - 7:53
    Up!
  • 7:53 - 7:55
Come on, come on, come on!
    That's it!
  • 7:55 - 7:58
    Careful!
    Costa, slowly, it's very dangerous!
  • 7:58 - 7:59
Come on, come on, come on.
  • 7:59 - 8:02
    Pull it up!
  • 8:02 - 8:08
    - Careful! Careful!
    - Watch out!
  • 8:08 - 8:10
    Everyone all right?
  • 8:10 - 8:13
Okay, let's see if we can do this.
    Come on!
  • 8:13 - 8:16
    No, Costa, please.
We have to do it some other way!
  • 8:16 - 8:18
It has to be done another way, please.
  • 8:18 - 8:19
    One, two, three...
  • 8:19 - 8:21
    Up!
  • 8:21 - 8:23
    One, two, three...
  • 8:23 - 8:28
    Up!
  • 8:28 - 8:30
    Once more, on three.
  • 8:30 - 8:32
    One, two, three...
  • 8:32 - 8:40
    Up!
  • 8:40 - 8:40
    Alley-oop!
  • 8:40 - 8:44
    Listen, Costa, we should've gotten
    professionals and used a crane!
  • 8:44 - 8:46
Things can't be done like that.
    Someone could get hurt!
  • 8:46 - 8:48
    Yeah, and an engineer, too.
  • 8:48 - 8:50
Do you know how much we've saved?
  • 8:50 - 8:54
    35,000, so calm down.
    It’s all done.
  • 8:54 - 8:56
    Great work, guys.
  • 8:56 - 8:58
    The beers are on me.
  • 8:58 - 9:10
    Turn that fucking thing off!
  • 9:10 - 9:16
    - Sorry.
    - It’s okay.
  • 9:16 - 9:41
l hope I can get through this.
  • 9:41 - 9:44
    Is he drunk?
  • 9:44 - 9:46
    Are we all here?
  • 9:46 - 9:48
    We are now.
  • 9:48 - 9:52
    All right, when you're ready.
  • 9:52 - 9:57
"We see the stunned faces of Taino
    children hiding in the bushes.
  • 9:57 - 9:58
    From their point of view,
  • 9:58 - 10:02
we see Columbus and his men
    landing in the New World.
  • 10:02 - 10:04
Some small boats are on the shore.
  • 10:04 - 10:06
    The children are hit
    by a disgusting smell
  • 10:06 - 10:10
    while the strange creatures,
    wet and dirty,
  • 10:10 - 10:14
    some bearded, others bald,
    stumble on the sand.
  • 10:14 - 10:18
    The children laugh
    and make comments,
  • 10:18 - 10:20
    trying to understand
who these strangers are -- "
  • 10:20 - 10:23
    l, Christopher Columbus,
  • 10:23 - 10:26
    humble servant
    of King Ferdinand of Aragon
  • 10:26 - 10:29
    and Queen Isabella of Castile,
  • 10:29 - 10:31
in the name of Jesus Christ,
  • 10:31 - 10:34
Son of the one true God,
  • 10:34 - 10:38
    take possession of these lands
    and seas
  • 10:38 - 10:42
    and all they contain.
  • 10:42 - 10:49
    And with this act...
  • 10:49 - 10:52
    ...l proclaim sovereignty
    over these lands and seas
  • 10:52 - 11:00
    on behalf of their most
    gracious Majesties.
  • 11:00 - 11:02
Let us thank the Virgin Mother
  • 11:02 - 11:36
for delivering us with good health
    to this great triumph.
  • 11:36 - 11:39
    This must be their village.
  • 11:39 - 11:43
    Thank God, they look peaceful.
  • 11:43 - 11:46
A good site for a fortress.
  • 11:46 - 11:48
    Mingle with them.
  • 11:48 - 11:51
The first man to find gold
    will be rewarded.
  • 11:51 - 11:53
    Captain...
  • 11:53 - 11:54
    treat them well.
  • 11:54 - 12:00
    We need their food.
  • 12:00 - 12:07
And find out what arms they have.
  • 12:07 - 12:08
    Admiral!
  • 12:08 - 12:26
    Quickly!
    You have to see this!
  • 12:26 - 12:28
    - Gold!
    - Gold.
  • 12:28 - 12:31
    - Gold.
    - Gold.
  • 12:31 - 12:32
    It’s gold.
  • 12:32 - 12:35
    Where is the gold?
  • 12:35 - 12:37
    Gold!
  • 12:37 - 12:40
    Where is the gold?
  • 12:40 - 12:46
You know what I’m talking about!
    Gold!
  • 12:46 - 12:52
    Where is it?!
  • 12:52 - 12:54
Who gives a shit about gold?
  • 12:54 - 12:58
    l need a fucking drink!
  • 12:58 - 12:59
    Forgive me, Miss.
  • 12:59 - 13:01
    We actors are totally selfish.
  • 13:01 - 13:07
    - Thank you.
    - You're welcome.
  • 13:07 - 13:17
    Remember him?
  • 13:17 - 13:19
See the look in his eyes?
  • 13:19 - 13:23
    The piercing stare, really deep.
  • 13:23 - 13:25
    He's little,
    but he's got great presence.
  • 13:25 - 13:27
Yeah, and he stinks of trouble, too.
  • 13:27 - 13:30
    - And he's never acted in his life.
    - No, but I’m the director.
  • 13:30 - 13:32
    It’s an advantage.
    He's very natural.
  • 13:32 - 13:34
    What about the Peruvian actor?
  • 13:34 - 13:38
    He's terrible, totally predictable.
    No. No, no.
  • 13:38 - 13:40
    But this one's a troublemaker.
  • 13:40 - 13:43
You saw what he stirred up
at the casting the other day.
  • 13:43 - 13:45
    He's a leader.
    You're looking for a leader.
  • 13:45 - 13:49
    Costa...
l want him and his daughter.
  • 13:49 - 13:52
    No, don't fuck with me, I don't
want this guy on the fucking shoot.
  • 13:52 - 13:53
    He'll wreck it.
    I don't want him. That's it.
  • 13:53 - 13:56
    Let me show you something.
    Look.
  • 13:56 - 13:58
    - What's this?
    - Who's that?
  • 13:58 - 14:00
l know perfectly well who it is.
    When did you shoot this?
  • 14:00 - 14:04
    - This morning.
    - Without telling me?
  • 14:04 - 14:06
    Look, look, look!
  • 14:06 - 14:10
    Hatuey! Fuck, it's Hatuey!
  • 14:10 - 14:11
    - Right?
    - He's very good.
  • 14:11 - 14:14
    - It’s amazing!
    - Okay, he's Hatuey, fantastic.
  • 14:14 - 14:15
You're not going to be able
    to control this guy.
  • 14:15 - 14:22
    You're going to regret it.
Just remember I told you so.
  • 14:22 - 14:24
    He's right in a way.
  • 14:24 - 14:37
But the film comes first, always.
  • 14:37 - 14:40
    As governor of this island,
  • 14:40 - 14:47
    l want to thank you
    for coming to see me.
  • 14:47 - 14:49
    After my first voyage,
  • 14:49 - 14:52
    l spoke personally
    with their Majesties,
  • 14:52 - 14:56
who instructed me to treat you
    with respect and cordiality.
  • 14:56 - 15:00
    We ask that you recognize
    the Church and the Pope
  • 15:00 - 15:06
    as rulers of the universe.
  • 15:06 - 15:09
And also that you accept the King
  • 15:09 - 15:12
    and the Queen of Spain
  • 15:12 - 15:20
    as rulers of these lands.
  • 15:20 - 15:21
    In exchange,
  • 15:21 - 15:32
    you will receive our love
    and our charity.
  • 15:32 - 15:34
    And if we do not?
  • 15:34 - 15:36
    Captain...
  • 15:36 - 15:38
    If not...
  • 15:38 - 15:43
    we will enslave you
and dispose of you as we wish.
  • 15:43 - 15:45
    We will seize your possessions,
  • 15:45 - 15:59
    and we will do you
as much harm as we can.
  • 15:59 - 16:07
What do you want from us?
  • 16:07 - 16:10
    Taxes.
  • 16:10 - 16:23
Every Indian over the age of 14
    must fill a bell.
  • 16:23 - 16:24
    What did he say?
  • 16:24 - 16:26
    With what?
  • 16:26 - 16:30
    With gold. Here.
  • 16:30 - 16:34
    It isn't very big.
  • 16:34 - 16:46
    Captain.
  • 16:46 - 16:48
    Alberto, can you tell us
    about your character?
  • 16:48 - 16:52
    Well, my character is
    Bartolome de las Casas.
  • 16:52 - 16:55
He came to the Indies when he was 18
to take charge of a plantation
  • 16:55 - 16:58
    and the Indian slaves
    who worked there.
  • 16:58 - 17:03
    But later, traumatized
    by the massacres he witnessed,
  • 17:03 - 17:07
he devoted his life to the Indians.
  • 17:07 - 17:08
    He became a Dominican.
  • 17:08 - 17:10
    He was nearly murdered twice.
  • 17:10 - 17:12
    On his deathbed --
    and I’m quoting verbatim.
  • 17:12 - 17:14
    Don't laugh, listen.
  • 17:14 - 17:16
    He said,
  • 17:16 - 17:19
    "l condemn the blindness
of those who ignore the genocide
  • 17:19 - 17:20
and give orders to the world."
  • 17:20 - 17:24
    This guy was the father
    of international law,
  • 17:24 - 17:26
and I’m only in eight scenes!
  • 17:26 - 17:27
    And you, Juan?
  • 17:27 - 17:30
    l play Antonio Montesinos.
  • 17:30 - 17:33
Sebastian gave me 20 books to read,
but I’m not a reader like him.
  • 17:33 - 17:36
    My character isn't
    as famous as Bartolome,
  • 17:36 - 17:38
    but he's more important.
  • 17:38 - 17:39
    He's more important than Bartolome
  • 17:39 - 17:42
because I was the first to intercede
    for the Indians.
  • 17:42 - 17:46
l was the one who started everything
and gave that famous sermon --
  • 17:46 - 17:49
"l am the voice of Christ
in the desert of this island,
  • 17:49 - 17:51
and you are in mortal sin!"
  • 17:51 - 17:53
    That was me.
  • 17:53 - 17:57
    Daniel, can you tell me
what made you do this film?
  • 17:57 - 17:58
    What do you mean?
  • 17:58 - 18:02
    What did you like
    about your character?
  • 18:02 - 18:06
    Maybe he represents
    native resistance
  • 18:06 - 18:10
    or shows colonization
    from a different angle?
  • 18:10 - 18:12
    He just wants the money!
  • 18:12 - 18:13
    What?
  • 18:13 - 18:16
    He just wants the money!
  • 18:16 - 18:17
    Do you have love scenes?
  • 18:17 - 18:18
How many girls do you kiss?
  • 18:18 - 18:21
Do you have to strip off?
  • 18:21 - 18:23
    A little squirt like you!
  • 18:23 - 18:26
    No, guys.
  • 18:26 - 18:27
    What are you digging?
  • 18:27 - 18:31
We're running out of water here,
and between all of us, we've bought --
  • 18:31 - 18:34
    See that hill?
  • 18:34 - 18:38
    We bought a well there,
and now we're digging a ditch.
  • 18:38 - 18:42
    It’s about 7 kilometers long.
  • 18:42 - 18:44
    -7 kilometers?
    - Yes, 7 kilometers.
  • 18:44 - 18:50
We're digging a ditch to bring
    the pipeline along the hillside
  • 18:50 - 18:52
    and have water here.
  • 18:52 - 18:54
    Why are you here?
  • 18:54 - 18:56
    We're making a documentary
    about the film.
  • 18:56 - 19:00
You're asking a lot of questions.
    Daniel, don't trust her.
  • 19:00 - 19:14
    Here come the bastards.
  • 19:14 - 19:17
    They're stopping.
  • 19:17 - 19:28
    They've stopped.
    What do they want?
  • 19:28 - 19:32
What the fuck do you want here?
  • 19:32 - 19:35
    What are you looking for?
What are you looking for here?
  • 19:35 - 20:05
    What are you looking for?
  • 20:05 - 20:08
    - How do you say "food"?
    - Mikuna.
  • 20:08 - 20:13
    - How do you say "It was delicious"?
    - Ancha miski.
  • 20:13 - 20:15
How do you say "l love you"?
  • 20:15 - 20:22
    Anchata munaiki.
  • 20:22 - 20:23
    - And "wine"?
    - Vino also.
  • 20:23 - 20:26
    - And "water"?
    - Yaku.
  • 20:26 - 20:28
    I'll have some yaku.
  • 20:28 - 20:30
    Nothing like getting into character.
  • 20:30 - 20:32
    God bless you, Father.
  • 20:32 - 20:36
Why not fill a plastic bag
with the leftovers from this meal,
  • 20:36 - 20:38
    which costs more
than what they earn in a month,
  • 20:38 - 20:40
    and give it to them,
    so their scrawny children
  • 20:40 - 20:42
    can gobble it up
    like starving rodents!
  • 20:42 - 20:45
    Then you'll feel
    like a real missionary.
  • 20:45 - 20:49
    Anton, relax.
    It’s Saturday night.
  • 20:49 - 21:00
    How long will you remember
    that "water" is yaku?
  • 21:00 - 21:04
    That's not very pious, Father,
but the director will cut it out,
  • 21:04 - 21:06
    along with other important details.
  • 21:06 - 21:10
For example, the fact that Las Casas
    wanted black slaves from Africa
  • 21:10 - 21:12
    to replace the Indians.
  • 21:12 - 21:14
Why not put that in the film?
  • 21:14 - 21:16
    Don't let him needle you.
  • 21:16 - 21:19
No, no, no, but -- but, no,
    it's true. It’s true.
  • 21:19 - 21:22
He did think that when he was young,
but for a very short time.
  • 21:22 - 21:24
    He always regretted it.
  • 21:24 - 21:27
    - And his deal with the slave traders?
    - What?
  • 21:27 - 21:29
    A mistake, a disaster
    that ashamed him.
  • 21:29 - 21:32
    Don't lose your marbles, Reverend.
  • 21:32 - 21:35
I’m not, I’m just informing you.
  • 21:35 - 21:39
    Until his dying breath,
    Las Casas condemned corrupt bishops,
  • 21:39 - 21:40
    merchants, royal officials...
  • 21:40 - 21:42
    The whole State hated him.
  • 21:42 - 21:45
    - They hated him?
    - Yes. Listen to me.
  • 21:45 - 21:48
He said the Indians had been
    sacrificed, and I quote,
  • 21:48 - 21:53
    "for private appetites and profits,"
  • 21:53 - 21:58
Then cynics like you try to reduce
    his life to one mistake.
  • 21:58 - 22:01
    Like in football,
history is always cruel to the losers.
  • 22:01 - 22:04
    Just cut them out
and make the film about me!
  • 22:04 - 22:06
    I’m better-looking, right?
  • 22:06 - 22:08
    More handsome than him.
  • 22:08 - 22:11
    He never -- Beto.
  • 22:11 - 22:14
    He never questioned Spanish authority
over the New World or royal authority.
  • 22:14 - 22:18
    In other words,
    he was a conservative.
  • 22:18 - 22:20
    He was a radical!
    A radical!
  • 22:20 - 22:23
He demanded that Indians be treated
    equally as Spaniards!
  • 22:23 - 22:25
    Under the Crown!
  • 22:25 - 22:29
    But with the Indians' consent.
He was ahead of his time.
  • 22:29 - 22:33
    How the fuck
    did Disney pass on this?
  • 22:33 - 22:34
    You have an agenda.
  • 22:34 - 22:38
You sanctify this pair of bastards
    and string me up!
  • 22:38 - 22:41
    This isn't art.
    It’s pure propaganda.
  • 22:41 - 22:44
    - So why are you here?
    - What?
  • 22:44 - 22:45
Why the hell are you doing it?
  • 22:45 - 22:48
    For the gold!
  • 22:48 - 22:50
    And for Jesus Christ!
  • 22:50 - 22:54
    May I say something?
    Just one thing?
  • 22:54 - 22:58
l am the voice of Christ
in the desert of this island!
  • 22:58 - 23:02
And you are in mortal sin!
  • 23:02 - 23:16
    Good night, Cochabamba!
  • 23:16 - 23:20
    What are you doing?
  • 23:20 - 23:22
    Get the other padlock.
  • 23:22 - 23:24
    What are you doing?
Why did you break the padlock?
  • 23:24 - 23:26
What are you doing to the well?
  • 23:26 - 23:32
We dug this well with our own hands
    so our children could drink.
  • 23:32 - 23:34
    You've got no right
    to close the well!
  • 23:34 - 23:36
How can we live with dirty water?
  • 23:36 - 23:39
    You take our lands,
    you take our wells.
  • 23:39 - 23:43
Are you going to take the air, too?
  • 23:43 - 23:45
    We're not paying more money.
  • 23:45 - 23:49
    Don't all talk --
don't all talk at the same time.
  • 23:49 - 23:50
    Listen to me.
    Listen to me.
  • 23:50 - 23:53
These men are doing their job.
  • 23:53 - 23:55
    What job?
    Taking our water?
  • 23:55 - 23:57
    No, Ma'am, it's not that.
  • 23:57 - 24:01
    The well is ours.
  • 24:01 - 24:04
    Water for our families,
    for our children.
  • 24:04 - 24:06
    You are fathers, too.
  • 24:06 - 24:08
So don't put another lock on there,
  • 24:08 - 24:19
otherwise we're going to fight you
    all the way!
  • 24:19 - 24:22
The water is for our children!
  • 24:22 - 24:27
This water is for our children!
  • 24:27 - 24:47
Don't take away our kids' water!
  • 24:47 - 24:54
All right, it's March of 1511.
  • 24:54 - 24:58
    Boys! 10 minutes.
    Thank you. Thank you.
  • 24:58 - 24:59
    Okay, March of 1511.
  • 24:59 - 25:03
    The Dominicans gather the rich
    and powerful of Santo Domingo
  • 25:03 - 25:06
    to listen to the sermon.
  • 25:06 - 25:08
    Bartolome is sitting there.
  • 25:08 - 25:10
    - Here?
    - Yes, exactly, here.
  • 25:10 - 25:14
    He's just like the others.
He still has Indians and lands.
  • 25:14 - 25:15
    Okay? Yes?
  • 25:15 - 25:18
    So, yes, you're back there.
  • 25:18 - 25:21
We hear the hymn in Latin.
  • 25:21 - 25:24
    It ends.
    A slight pause.
  • 25:24 - 25:29
You exchange a look with Bartolome.
  • 25:29 - 25:35
    And we begin.
  • 25:35 - 25:42
    The Pharisees sent someone
to ask John the Baptist who he was.
  • 25:42 - 25:51
And he replied, "l am a voice
    crying in the wilderness."
  • 25:51 - 25:56
    The Indians mine the gold
    which builds our cities
  • 25:56 - 25:59
    and even our churches.
  • 25:59 - 26:03
    Gold finances our conquests
    in far distant parts
  • 26:03 - 26:06
    and so the great wheel
    of commerce turns.
  • 26:06 - 26:09
Not one of us is untouched
    by Indian sweat,
  • 26:09 - 26:14
    least of all His Majesty
    and his bishops!
  • 26:14 - 26:19
As a priest, I must follow
    Gospel imperatives,
  • 26:19 - 26:24
    the first of which
    is to preach the truth.
  • 26:24 - 26:27
l am the voice of Christ
in the desert of this island,
  • 26:27 - 26:30
and you are in mortal sin!
  • 26:30 - 26:31
    What's he saying?
    This man's gone mad!
  • 26:31 - 26:34
You live in sin, and you die in it!
  • 26:34 - 26:35
    Why?
  • 26:35 - 26:40
    Because of the cruel tyranny
    you impose on these innocents!
  • 26:40 - 26:43
    Tell me by what right
    and with what justice
  • 26:43 - 26:47
    you keep these Indians
    in such cruel, horrible slavery.
  • 26:47 - 26:49
    They were living peacefully
    on their land!
  • 26:49 - 26:50
    This is outrageous!
  • 26:50 - 26:54
    By what authority have you
waged such terrible war on them?
  • 26:54 - 27:00
By what right do you keep them
    so oppressed, starved, and exhausted?
  • 27:00 - 27:03
    They're dying because of you.
    Or rather, you murder them!
  • 27:03 - 27:06
    What a disgrace!
    This is intolerable!
  • 27:06 - 27:08
How can you be so asleep?
  • 27:08 - 27:13
How can you be so deep inside
    that lethargic dream?
  • 27:13 - 27:15
    Look into the Indians' eyes.
  • 27:15 - 27:17
    Are these not men?
  • 27:17 - 27:21
Do they not have rational souls?
  • 27:21 - 27:27
    Are you not obliged
    to love them as yourselves?
  • 27:27 - 27:29
Who do you think you are?
  • 27:29 - 27:32
    Your sermon today
    has called into question
  • 27:32 - 27:34
my authority and that of the King.
  • 27:34 - 27:38
You know that the Indian concessions
    are all legal.
  • 27:38 - 27:46
    l demand an official retraction,
    Father Montesinos.
  • 27:46 - 27:49
    The truth has many enemies.
  • 27:49 - 27:54
    The lie has many friends.
  • 27:54 - 27:58
    This is a capital offense!
    Hang the traitor! Burn him!
  • 27:58 - 28:06
    Montesinos, go back to Spain
before we cut out your tongue!
  • 28:06 - 28:08
    Very good.
  • 28:08 - 28:09
He goes right for them, doesn't he?
  • 28:09 - 28:12
    Yes, this man never retracted.
  • 28:12 - 28:14
    No, the next Saturday,
    he preached the same sermon.
  • 28:14 - 28:17
He continued denouncing them like that
for years until they killed him.
  • 28:17 - 28:18
    In Venezuela.
  • 28:18 - 28:24
Yes, he was the first voice
    of conscience against an empire.
  • 28:24 - 28:28
    Like that,
from a little church like this.
  • 28:28 - 28:30
    - Okay?
    - Yes.
  • 28:30 - 28:32
    To the dressing room.
  • 28:32 - 28:34
    Great.
  • 28:34 - 28:53
    - Great.
    - You can continue.
  • 28:53 - 28:56
They sell our rivers against our will.
  • 28:56 - 28:59
They sell our wells, our lakes...
  • 28:59 - 29:03
    and even the rain
    that falls on our heads!
  • 29:03 - 29:05
    By law!
  • 29:05 - 29:06
    Friends, it's incredible!
  • 29:06 - 29:09
They don't allow us to collect
the water that falls from the rain,
  • 29:09 - 29:11
    by law!
  • 29:11 - 29:14
And who takes even the rain?
  • 29:14 - 29:18
    A company whose owners
    are in London and California.
  • 29:18 - 29:21
    Friends, what are they
    going to steal next?
  • 29:21 - 29:24
    The vapor from our breath?
  • 29:24 - 29:26
    The sweat from our brow?
  • 29:26 - 29:39
All they'll get from me is piss!
  • 29:39 - 29:41
    Take it easy, comrades!
  • 29:41 - 29:49
    Take it easy, comrades...
  • 29:49 - 29:52
Costa, they say that they want
    to mobilize thousands.
  • 29:52 - 29:53
    - So?
    - From the countryside...
  • 29:53 - 29:55
    ...from the city, the unions.
  • 29:55 - 29:58
    People are furious.
  • 29:58 - 30:00
    No wonder,
    they're taking their water.
  • 30:00 - 30:02
    They're taking their water.
  • 30:02 - 30:04
    - Enough.
    - Imagine a documentary about this.
  • 30:04 - 30:06
    Costa, let me do it.
  • 30:06 - 30:07
No, I’m not spending another penny.
  • 30:07 - 30:10
Costa, they're going to raise hell.
  • 30:10 - 30:13
And if we don't tell the story, we're
going to let a great chance escape.
  • 30:13 - 30:15
    l said no!
    I’m not a fucking NGO!
  • 30:15 - 30:18
This story has nothing to do with me.
  • 30:18 - 30:29
But you're in the middle of it!
  • 30:29 - 30:33
    Come in.
  • 30:33 - 30:35
    Shit, the big boss himself.
  • 30:35 - 30:37
Told you need a hand with this.
  • 30:37 - 30:38
    You?
  • 30:38 - 30:40
    Come in, come in.
  • 30:40 - 30:44
    No one else dares enter
    the ogre's den.
  • 30:44 - 30:46
    It’s me, again.
  • 30:46 - 30:49
    I've tried all the numbers.
  • 30:49 - 30:51
There's no way I can contact you.
    What's wrong?
  • 30:51 - 30:58
Don't the kids have my number?
    And the little one?
  • 30:58 - 31:02
    Call me.
  • 31:02 - 31:07
    Fucking machines.
  • 31:07 - 31:09
    You got a family?
  • 31:09 - 31:13
    Yes, a boy of 14.
  • 31:13 - 31:18
    What's he like?
  • 31:18 - 31:23
Well, to be honest, I have no idea.
    He lives with his mother.
  • 31:23 - 31:27
    This business fucks up families.
  • 31:27 - 31:31
    Here.
  • 31:31 - 31:36
    Something wrong, Anton?
  • 31:36 - 31:37
    My bloody head!
  • 31:37 - 31:40
    l can't remember
    the fucking beginning.
  • 31:40 - 31:42
    Start at the beginning.
  • 31:42 - 31:43
"They are so naive -- "
  • 31:43 - 31:46
    They are so naive
and generous with what they have
  • 31:46 - 31:48
    that they never refuse anything.
  • 31:48 - 31:52
Whatever they have, if you ask them
for it, they will give it to you,
  • 31:52 - 31:56
    inviting the person
    to share it with them.
  • 31:56 - 32:02
l have still not found out
    if they have private property.
  • 32:02 - 32:04
    With just 50 men,
  • 32:04 - 32:09
    you could subdue them
and make them do whatever you want.
  • 32:09 - 32:14
    Whatever you want.
  • 32:14 - 32:18
    - On the first --
    - On the first island I found...
  • 32:18 - 32:20
    ...l took several by force.
  • 32:20 - 32:23
    Your Majesties will see
  • 32:23 - 32:28
that I will give you all the gold you
desire in exchange for a little help.
  • 32:28 - 32:31
    Besides spices and cotton,
    there are slaves,
  • 32:31 - 32:34
    as many as you require.
  • 32:34 - 32:41
All of Christendom should be joyful
and solemnly thank the Holy Trinity
  • 32:41 - 32:45
for having converted so many souls
    to the holy faith,
  • 32:45 - 32:50
    and for the countless
    material benefits
  • 32:50 - 32:52
    this will bring us,
  • 32:52 - 32:56
    since not only Spain,
    but all of Christendom
  • 32:56 - 33:02
    will enjoy solace and profit.
  • 33:02 - 33:07
No wonder you can't remember it.
    No one talks like that.
  • 33:07 - 33:12
That is exactly the first letter
Columbus sent from the New World
  • 33:12 - 33:13
    to the Spanish Crown.
  • 33:13 - 33:17
    That's why Sebastian
is so faithful to the text.
  • 33:17 - 33:20
    I don't know if it'll work.
It’s a little risky, but I like it.
  • 33:20 - 33:26
    But if he'd just
give me some space to present
  • 33:26 - 33:28
    the man, with his doubts,
    his anxieties...
  • 33:28 - 33:38
    Tell him.
  • 33:38 - 33:43
    - Why do you drink so much, Anton?
    - Because I’m always...
  • 33:43 - 33:50
    very... very thirsty.
  • 33:50 - 33:53
But can you get through this?
  • 33:53 - 33:59
    We are screwed without you.
  • 33:59 - 34:13
    It’s great to feel needed.
  • 34:13 - 34:16
Look at the size of it.
  • 34:16 - 34:33
    - Can we go on board?
    - We'll ask Costa.
  • 34:33 - 34:36
    Hi, there.
  • 34:36 - 34:38
They really had to fill these
    with gold dust?
  • 34:38 - 34:40
    Seems so.
  • 34:40 - 34:44
Daniel, I saw you in a demonstration
    with the police.
  • 34:44 - 34:49
Do you realize that if something
    happens to you, we're fucked?
  • 34:49 - 34:52
    Without you,
    we can't finish the film.
  • 34:52 - 34:55
Can you not keep out of this?
  • 34:55 - 34:58
    Just three weeks.
  • 34:58 - 35:02
    Excuse me.
  • 35:02 - 35:11
    Yes?
  • 35:11 - 35:12
    The money men.
  • 35:12 - 35:14
    They saw the rushes,
    and they say you're great.
  • 35:14 - 36:01
    Very good.
  • 36:01 - 36:05
    Daniel, we're going to make
    a fantastic film, you'll see.
  • 36:05 - 36:06
    No, really.
  • 36:06 - 36:09
    Sebastian is preparing
    some amazing scenes --
  • 36:09 - 36:12
hundreds of guys in the ravine
    panning for gold.
  • 36:12 - 36:19
    Fucking epic, and you're there!
    You're there, man!
  • 36:19 - 36:23
    What?
  • 36:23 - 36:28
    Two fucking dollars, right?
    And they're happy.
  • 36:28 - 36:35
l worked in the States for two years
    in construction.
  • 36:35 - 36:40
    l know this story.
  • 36:40 - 36:42
    Belen, leave that.
  • 36:42 - 36:49
    Come on.
  • 36:49 - 37:19
    - We're not going on the boat?
    - We have to go home.
  • 37:19 - 37:34
    Come on, come on.
    Stay in line.
  • 37:34 - 37:42
    Move.
  • 37:42 - 37:46
    Captain...
  • 37:46 - 37:48
    What's this?
  • 37:48 - 37:50
    Do you think I’m stupid?
Are you trying to fool me?
  • 37:50 - 37:54
    Nothing here but sand.
  • 37:54 - 37:58
    Speak like a Christian!
    I don't understand you!
  • 37:58 - 38:01
    This is sand.
  • 38:01 - 38:07
    Have him clipped.
  • 38:07 - 38:30
    Next.
  • 38:30 - 38:33
    There's not enough here.
  • 38:33 - 38:36
    There isn't enough.
  • 38:36 - 38:45
    A lot of sand.
  • 38:45 - 38:47
Come on, take him away to be clipped.
  • 38:47 - 38:48
    Father! Father!
  • 38:48 - 39:38
    You, come on!
  • 39:38 - 39:42
    - Well done, kid, you were great.
    - Thank you.
  • 39:42 - 39:43
    - Happy?
    - Yes.
  • 39:43 - 39:48
    Thank you.
  • 39:48 - 39:51
    - Young lady, well done.
    - Thank you.
  • 39:51 - 39:56
    You've got talent.
A scene to be proud of.
  • 39:56 - 39:58
    l hope they're paying you
    like they should.
  • 39:58 - 40:00
    Paying me
a lot more than the extras.
  • 40:00 - 40:02
    More than the extras?
    My God!
  • 40:02 - 40:03
    Do you want to know
    what they're paying me?
  • 40:03 - 40:06
    - What?
    - Two million bolivanos.
  • 40:06 - 40:07
    Wow.
  • 40:07 - 40:10
    - Dad!
    - Hello.
  • 40:10 - 40:13
    I’ve just seen
    the scene in the jungle.
  • 40:13 - 40:15
    It was very interesting, yes.
  • 40:15 - 40:17
    It was sad but interesting.
  • 40:17 - 40:21
    l really liked it.
It isn't real, but it's lovely.
  • 40:21 - 40:57
    - You liked it?
    - Yes, a lot.
  • 40:57 - 42:02
    l owe you an apology.
  • 42:02 - 44:46
    Help!
  • 44:46 - 44:49
    It’s a horrific choice...
  • 44:49 - 44:51
    heartbreaking.
  • 44:51 - 44:57
    You can't bear the idea
that the dogs will eat the babies.
  • 44:57 - 44:59
We'll see you talking to Hatuey
  • 44:59 - 45:02
    and how you understand
    that there's no other solution,
  • 45:02 - 45:05
that you have to make this decision
and you have to make it together
  • 45:05 - 45:07
    to give each other courage.
  • 45:07 - 45:10
    So you'll take the babies...
  • 45:10 - 45:12
    ...slowly,
  • 45:12 - 45:15
    wade into the river,
  • 45:15 - 45:18
    put them in the water,
    and drown them.
  • 45:18 - 45:21
Okay, how are we going to do it?
We're going to do it like this.
  • 45:21 - 45:25
    In the first take,
you'll go in with the babies,
  • 45:25 - 45:29
    and as soon as
you're up to your waists, we'll stop,
  • 45:29 - 45:32
    and we'll bring over
the dolls you can see there
  • 45:32 - 45:37
and swap them for the babies,
    okay?
  • 45:37 - 45:47
    Everything okay?
    Is something wrong, Daniel?
  • 45:47 - 45:50
    Listen, it's complet--
Tell them that it's totally safe.
  • 45:50 - 45:53
The babies won't even get wet.
    They won't even get wet.
  • 45:53 - 45:56
When the water is up to your waist,
we'll cut and bring those dolls, look.
  • 45:56 - 45:58
Bring those dolls so they can...
  • 45:58 - 46:02
    Sebastian, give me a moment.
  • 46:02 - 46:39
Okay, but we don't have much time.
  • 46:39 - 46:42
    What's up?
  • 46:42 - 47:14
    I don't know.
  • 47:14 - 47:16
    - Well?
    - They won't do it.
  • 47:16 - 47:21
    Look, I know it's difficult,
but we have to get them to do it.
  • 47:21 - 47:22
We need it for the film...
  • 47:22 - 47:26
    Sebastian, they can't even imagine
    the idea of doing it.
  • 47:26 - 47:28
    I’m not making this up.
    It’s what happened.
  • 47:28 - 47:29
    We have to show it.
  • 47:29 - 47:32
    It’s important for the film.
    Please.
  • 47:32 - 47:38
    Sebastian, some things
are more important than your film.
  • 47:38 - 47:39
    Good Lord!
  • 47:39 - 47:42
    God!
  • 47:42 - 47:45
    What do I do?
  • 47:45 - 47:47
    Nothing.
  • 47:47 - 48:01
    Let's do the next scene.
  • 48:01 - 48:04
    Comrades, silence, please!
    Listen.
  • 48:04 - 48:06
    We're taking too long,
    and it's getting very hot.
  • 48:06 - 48:08
    We're going to get tired.
  • 48:08 - 48:11
    Comrades, we are debating
    the possibility
  • 48:11 - 48:17
    of occupying September 14th Square.
  • 48:17 - 48:18
    Comrades!
  • 48:18 - 48:22
    And taking over
    the Water Company building
  • 48:22 - 48:25
    and not budging
until they give us back the water!
  • 48:25 - 48:26
    No, that's what they want.
  • 48:26 - 48:28
    It'll give them an excuse
    for another massacre.
  • 48:28 - 48:30
    I’m not in agreement.
  • 48:30 - 48:33
    Comrades!
  • 48:33 - 48:36
We all drink water, don't we?
  • 48:36 - 48:42
Then we all have to go on the march.
  • 48:42 - 48:45
    Comrades, comrades, please.
  • 48:45 - 48:47
    I don't agree.
  • 48:47 - 48:51
They'll beat us up. They'll gas us.
    What about our children?
  • 48:51 - 48:53
    Will you look after them?
  • 48:53 - 49:09
We are women, we have children.
    We shouldn't go.
  • 49:09 - 49:13
How can we pay $450 a year?
  • 49:13 - 49:15
    It’s robbery.
  • 49:15 - 49:19
Better if they just shoot us now.
  • 49:19 - 49:20
    Silence, please!
  • 49:20 - 49:24
    We'll decide by voting, comrades.
    We'll take a vote.
  • 49:24 - 49:26
    Those who want to fight,
    raise their hands and say,
  • 49:26 - 49:28
    "The water belongs to us!"
  • 49:28 - 50:01
    The water belongs to us!
  • 50:01 - 50:04
    Is that Daniel?
  • 50:04 - 50:06
    What's he doing here?
  • 50:06 - 50:09
    After consulting
    with the residents...
  • 50:09 - 50:11
    Causing trouble, what else?
    l told you, Sebastian.
  • 50:11 - 50:14
    Now what?
    Do I lock him up?
  • 50:14 - 50:16
    ...and with our union comrades,
  • 50:16 - 50:18
    we, the people of Cochabamba,
  • 50:18 - 50:22
    declare that if
    the privatization of water
  • 50:22 - 50:24
is not revoked within 48 hours,
  • 50:24 - 50:35
we will begin an indefinite blockade
of the city and the roads!
  • 50:35 - 50:36
    What do we want?
  • 50:36 - 50:37
    Water!
  • 50:37 - 50:38
    When do we want it?
  • 50:38 - 50:39
    Now!
  • 50:39 - 50:44
    Inside.
    Let's go inside.
  • 50:44 - 50:52
Rifle or gun, the people never run!
  • 50:52 - 50:58
    Thank you.
  • 50:58 - 51:01
    - Welcome.
    - Thank you.
  • 51:01 - 51:04
    - It’s a pleasure to meet you.
    - The pleasure is mine.
  • 51:04 - 51:06
    - I’ve seen all your films.
    - All of them?
  • 51:06 - 51:09
We're honored to have you in our city.
    Come in, please.
  • 51:09 - 51:14
    - Thank you.
    - A photo of the occasion?
  • 51:14 - 51:14
    Thank you.
  • 51:14 - 51:16
    - This way.
    - Thank you.
  • 51:16 - 51:20
    We are doubly honored
    that you are here
  • 51:20 - 51:24
    to tell the story
    of Bartolome de Las Casas,
  • 51:24 - 51:26
an underestimated man, in my view.
  • 51:26 - 51:29
    Yes, that's true.
    Yes, listen...
  • 51:29 - 51:31
    Thank you for the policemen
    you sent us.
  • 51:31 - 51:36
    - We feel much safer.
    - It’s an honor for me.
  • 51:36 - 51:42
    Wow.
  • 51:42 - 51:45
    They're burning the water bills.
  • 51:45 - 51:49
Excuse me, a little domestic row.
  • 51:49 - 51:51
Nothing for you to worry about.
  • 51:51 - 51:52
    Don't worry.
  • 51:52 - 51:54
    While there's champagne to drink,
  • 51:54 - 51:59
    "Let them eat cake,"
    as Marie Antoinette said.
  • 51:59 - 52:02
It’s only an excuse for some fanatics
  • 52:02 - 52:06
    to stir up the desperate
and gain a name for themselves.
  • 52:06 - 52:08
    Forgive me for saying so,
  • 52:08 - 52:11
    but I think their demands
    are reasonable.
  • 52:11 - 52:14
    Perhaps if you were
    better informed...
  • 52:14 - 52:16
We're a country with few resources.
  • 52:16 - 52:22
It’s hard to maintain a water supply
    without major foreign investment.
  • 52:22 - 52:26
    These people think that
    government money grows on trees.
  • 52:26 - 52:27
    Very good.
  • 52:27 - 52:30
    Given their long history
    of exploitation,
  • 52:30 - 52:33
    Indians' distrust
    is embedded in their genes.
  • 52:33 - 52:35
    It’s very difficult
    to reason with them,
  • 52:35 - 52:37
    especially when they're illiterate.
  • 52:37 - 52:39
    But that's how it is.
  • 52:39 - 52:43
    We have objective reports
    from Harvard professors, the IMF...
  • 52:43 - 52:48
I'd love to see those bastards
  • 52:48 - 52:53
    feed their families
on 40 fucking dollars a month!
  • 52:53 - 52:56
    Anyway, in this globalized world...
  • 52:56 - 52:59
    - Excuse me, I’m wanted.
    - Of course.
  • 52:59 - 53:02
    In this globalized world,
    the Indians burn water bills
  • 53:02 - 53:04
and hurl rocks at the police.
  • 53:04 - 53:07
    It’s the cult of victim
    versus modernity.
  • 53:07 - 53:09
I don't want to be rude,
  • 53:09 - 53:13
    but if someone earns
    two dollars a day,
  • 53:13 - 53:18
    he can't pay a 300% increase
    in the price of water.
  • 53:18 - 53:21
At least that's what I’m told.
  • 53:21 - 53:23
    How curious.
  • 53:23 - 53:28
    That's what I’m told
    you pay the extras.
  • 53:28 - 53:34
    Yes, but we have
    a very tight budget.
  • 53:34 - 53:37
    Don't we all?
  • 53:37 - 53:40
    I’ll be honest.
    The rumors are very worrying.
  • 53:40 - 53:42
    This water dispute...
  • 53:42 - 53:47
    might get out of hand
    and stop us from filming.
  • 53:47 - 53:49
    I don't know if you
    could do something about it.
  • 53:49 - 53:54
    l imagine you're trying
    to reach an agreement.
  • 53:54 - 53:57
    If we give one inch,
  • 53:57 - 54:03
    these Indians will drag us
    back to the Stone Age.
  • 54:03 - 54:06
    Now, if you'll excuse me,
    make yourselves at home.
  • 54:06 - 55:09
    Thank you.
  • 55:09 - 55:16
    Fuck it!
  • 55:16 - 55:18
    How is he?
  • 55:18 - 55:21
    - They beat him up.
    - His face, too?
  • 55:21 - 55:23
We'll have to cover it with his hair.
  • 55:23 - 55:26
    Jesus fucking Christ!
  • 55:26 - 55:31
Costa, make him understand if we get
the scene with the cross, we're okay.
  • 55:31 - 55:33
    If not, we're fucked, Costa.
  • 55:33 - 55:48
Make the bastard give his word!
  • 55:48 - 55:52
    What the fuck
    are you playing at, Daniel?
  • 55:52 - 55:53
    Can you not think
  • 55:53 - 55:56
    of the time and effort
that have gone into this film?
  • 55:56 - 55:59
    The hundreds of people
    working on it,
  • 55:59 - 56:01
    the money we're spending?
  • 56:01 - 56:04
    If you get fucked,
    we all get fucked!
  • 56:04 - 56:09
Is three weeks too much to ask?
  • 56:09 - 56:14
Can no one else do this water stuff?
  • 56:14 - 56:17
    Are you listening?
  • 56:17 - 56:20
    Ah... playing the silent,
    dignified Indian?
  • 56:20 - 56:22
    Fucking great.
  • 56:22 - 56:24
    If we catch you
    at another demonstration,
  • 56:24 - 56:26
you won't get a fucking penny.
  • 56:26 - 56:35
    Is that clear?
  • 56:35 - 56:38
    I’ll tell you what.
  • 56:38 - 56:40
We'll give you an extra $5,000
  • 56:40 - 56:43
if you stay away from demonstrations
    until we're finished.
  • 56:43 - 56:49
    Okay?
  • 56:49 - 56:53
    What?
  • 56:53 - 57:00
    Forgive me, it's beneath you.
  • 57:00 - 57:03
    Or not enough?
  • 57:03 - 57:07
    Eh, Daniel?
  • 57:07 - 57:10
    Not enough?
  • 57:10 - 57:14
    $8,000?
  • 57:14 - 57:17
    $10,000?
  • 57:17 - 57:19
    $10,000, Daniel, $10,000.
    $10,000.
  • 57:19 - 57:21
Half now, half when we finish!
  • 57:21 - 57:26
    You've never seen
so much money in your life!
  • 57:26 - 57:28
    It’s your only fucking chance
  • 57:28 - 57:32
to get out of this shithole
    where you live,
  • 57:32 - 57:33
    and you're smart enough
    to see that!
  • 57:33 - 57:38
    Or not?
  • 57:38 - 57:41
    Fuck!
  • 57:41 - 57:42
    All right.
  • 57:42 - 57:44
    What?
  • 57:44 - 57:47
    All right.
  • 57:47 - 57:50
    No more demonstrations,
  • 57:50 - 57:54
and you'll do as we say
    until we're finished.
  • 57:54 - 57:58
Do I have your word, Daniel?
  • 57:58 - 58:02
    Do l?
  • 58:02 - 58:14
    Teresa, put the money away.
  • 58:14 - 58:20
    Put it away.
  • 58:20 - 58:35
    We're going to need it.
  • 58:35 - 58:36
    Bruno!
  • 58:36 - 58:39
    Shit, Bruno!
  • 58:39 - 58:44
    I’m talking to you.
Tell them to shut up, please.
  • 58:44 - 58:46
    Okay? Please.
  • 58:46 - 58:49
    Bruno, Bruno, are you deaf?
  • 58:49 - 58:52
    Listen, get them
    to the first position.
  • 58:52 - 58:54
    We're here to work,
    not to lie around.
  • 58:54 - 58:55
    What do you want?
    What?
  • 58:55 - 58:58
    - It’s Costa.
    - Let me have it.
  • 58:58 - 59:00
    Hi.
  • 59:00 - 59:02
    Where are you?
  • 59:02 - 59:06
    No, Costa, no, no, no!
Where the fuck are my natives?
  • 59:06 - 59:10
    Where the fuck is Daniel?!
  • 59:10 - 59:12
    A day of disturbances
    in Cochabamba.
  • 59:12 - 59:14
    Since the crack of dawn,
    peasants and their allies
  • 59:14 - 59:17
    have blockaded the city.
  • 59:17 - 59:22
    Hundreds of city dwellers
    affected by the water problem
  • 59:22 - 59:29
    have threatened to escalate
    actions starting next week.
  • 59:29 - 59:32
    Hundreds of people,
    some from private companies,
  • 59:32 - 59:35
    joined the protest
    organized by the peasants
  • 59:35 - 59:38
    who have said,
    "We'll maintain the pressure."
  • 59:38 - 59:42
    Bruno, this looks really bad.
  • 59:42 - 59:44
    - Can we shoot like this?
    - Yes, we can.
  • 59:44 - 59:47
    ...and the military forces
    have only caused more violence.
  • 59:47 - 59:49
"If they don't listen to us,"
    citizens groups said,
  • 59:49 - 59:53
    "we'll bring the city
    to a standstill tomorrow."
  • 59:53 - 59:58
In various parts of the city,
    serious confrontations...
  • 59:58 - 60:00
    What an animal!
  • 60:00 - 60:02
    ...demonstrators blocked key points...
  • 60:02 - 60:04
    What a bastard!
  • 60:04 - 60:12
    ...violent youths fought
    with riot police...
  • 60:12 - 60:16
    Is that Daniel?
  • 60:16 - 60:19
    They've smashed his face.
  • 60:19 - 60:22
    He's a fucking idiot!
    They'll throw him in jail!
  • 60:22 - 60:24
    What?
  • 60:24 - 60:33
What are you staring at, you drunk?
  • 60:33 - 60:38
    Look, without the cross scene,
    there's no film.
  • 60:38 - 60:40
    Right?
  • 60:40 - 60:42
    Cris? It’s Costa.
  • 60:42 - 60:46
    How much cash
    can we get by tonight?
  • 60:46 - 60:48
    Yes, tonight.
  • 60:48 - 60:50
    $5,000.
  • 60:50 - 60:51
    Okay.
  • 60:51 - 60:53
    Look, Daniel's been arrested...
  • 60:53 - 60:54
    Listen!
  • 60:54 - 60:58
    Find out where he is
and the name of the police chief,
  • 60:58 - 61:00
and set me up a meeting.
  • 61:00 - 61:04
    Yes, now.
  • 61:04 - 61:06
    Look, wait, one more thing.
  • 61:06 - 61:10
Call everyone and tell them that
we're doing the cross scene tomorrow.
  • 61:10 - 61:12
    I don't know, and I don't care.
  • 61:12 - 61:14
    Yes, you heard right.
    Move it.
  • 61:14 - 61:39
    That bastard won't screw us.
    Let's go.
  • 61:39 - 61:41
    Here's $2,000.
  • 61:41 - 61:48
We need that man to finish the film.
  • 61:48 - 61:51
    Very well.
  • 61:51 - 61:53
    On one condition.
  • 61:53 - 61:58
    When you finish filming,
    l bring him back.
  • 61:58 - 61:59
    No.
  • 61:59 - 62:01
    Okay.
  • 62:01 - 62:04
    - We can't do that.
    - Why not?
  • 62:04 - 62:05
    We can't.
  • 62:05 - 62:07
    Can we talk a moment?
  • 62:07 - 62:09
    Will you excuse us?
  • 62:09 - 62:14
    If you'll excuse us...
  • 62:14 - 62:15
    - Costa!
    - What?
  • 62:15 - 62:17
    What if he's beaten up
    when he comes back?
  • 62:17 - 62:20
    If he's tortured, killed,
    or disappeared?
  • 62:20 - 62:23
    These bastards can do anything.
I don't want that on my conscience.
  • 62:23 - 62:25
    But he's in jail already!
    We didn't put him there.
  • 62:25 - 62:28
    And the bastard tricked us.
  • 62:28 - 62:30
    Without the scene,
    there's no film.
  • 62:30 - 62:32
    - You fucking know that.
    - Yes, I know.
  • 62:32 - 62:36
    l say we do it.
  • 62:36 - 62:37
Okay, but we tip him off.
  • 62:37 - 62:40
    All right, whatever you want,
but after we film the scene,
  • 62:40 - 62:41
or he'll be off like a shot.
  • 62:41 - 62:44
    Shit, it's...too much...
  • 62:44 - 62:47
    - For fuck's sake.
    - I can't.
  • 62:47 - 62:51
    Yes, you can.
    Yes, you can.
  • 62:51 - 62:57
    Yes, you can.
  • 62:57 - 63:12
    Daniel?
  • 63:12 - 63:14
    You promised me.
  • 63:14 - 63:18
    We made a deal.
    You broke your word.
  • 63:18 - 63:54
    Water is life.
    You don't understand.
  • 63:54 - 65:00
    Thanks, boys.
  • 65:00 - 65:16
    Awake all night and vomiting.
  • 65:16 - 65:23
I don't know if I can do this, Costa.
  • 65:23 - 65:26
    So, now the nutcase
    who dragged us here
  • 65:26 - 65:34
    says he can't do it.
  • 65:34 - 65:40
Do you know when I realized
    how crazy you were?
  • 65:40 - 65:42
    Seven years ago.
  • 65:42 - 65:45
You called me at 2:00 a.m.
  • 65:45 - 65:48
    You won't remember.
  • 65:48 - 65:52
"You have to hear this, Costa!"
  • 65:52 - 65:55
You said it was written by a priest
  • 65:55 - 65:57
    called Montesinos
    in the 16th century.
  • 65:57 - 65:59
As if I gave a fuck.
  • 65:59 - 66:00
    l was in a bar --
  • 66:00 - 66:04
    deafening music, blind drunk,
    everyone waiting for me.
  • 66:04 - 66:10
    l could hardly hear you,
    but you kept going, yapping...
  • 66:10 - 66:17
    From a humble straw church...
  • 66:17 - 66:19
    One man against an empire,
  • 66:19 - 66:23
a voice crying in the desert.
  • 66:23 - 66:26
    Are these not men?
  • 66:26 - 66:30
Do they not have rational souls?
  • 66:30 - 66:38
    Are you not obliged
    to love them as yourselves?
  • 66:38 - 66:43
    That's what got you.
  • 66:43 - 66:47
    That's what gripped you...
  • 66:47 - 66:53
    ...lodged in there,
    like a virus.
  • 66:53 - 66:58
You're not the kind to give up,
    Sebastian.
  • 66:58 - 67:04
    You're not.
  • 67:04 - 67:07
    You can't quit now.
  • 67:07 - 67:13
    Come on.
  • 67:13 - 67:28
    What's wrong?
  • 67:28 - 67:35
    Let's go.
  • 67:35 - 67:36
    Come on.
  • 67:36 - 67:38
    Come on!
  • 67:38 - 67:40
    Let's go.
  • 67:40 - 67:41
    Keep going.
  • 67:41 - 67:48
    Come on, let's go.
  • 67:48 - 67:52
    Bring them!
    Women, children, old people.
  • 67:52 - 67:57
    Everyone must see this.
  • 67:57 - 67:59
    l beg you, Commander.
  • 67:59 - 68:04
    This will turn the Indians
    against us for generations.
  • 68:04 - 68:06
    The Crown will prosecute you!
  • 68:06 - 68:08
    l doubt it, Father.
  • 68:08 - 68:12
    This isn't Christian!
  • 68:12 - 68:16
Choose 13, and the rest go free.
  • 68:16 - 68:18
    One for each disciple
    and one for Christ Himself!
  • 68:18 - 68:20
    Want to choose them, Father?
  • 68:20 - 68:22
    This is a sacrilege.
  • 68:22 - 68:26
    No, Father.
    It’s an example.
  • 68:26 - 68:30
    Why not join the Franciscans
    and save their souls?
  • 68:30 - 68:32
    If they have any.
  • 68:32 - 68:35
    - If he interferes, arrest him.
    - Come on!
  • 68:35 - 68:37
    The Evangelists.
  • 68:37 - 68:38
    Matthew.
  • 68:38 - 68:39
    Mark.
  • 68:39 - 68:40
    Luke.
  • 68:40 - 68:42
    John.
  • 68:42 - 68:47
    Father, help me.
    I’ve forgotten the names.
  • 68:47 - 68:49
    - Cesar.
    - Carlos.
  • 68:49 - 68:50
    - Manolo.
    - Paco.
  • 68:50 - 68:51
    Federico.
  • 68:51 - 68:52
    Felipe.
  • 68:52 - 69:00
    Let's see.
    Who'll be Jesus Christ?
  • 69:00 - 69:03
I’ll baptize you, and you'll have
glory and eternal peace in Heaven.
  • 69:03 - 69:08
    Otherwise, you'll suffer
    eternal torment in Hell.
  • 69:08 - 69:13
    In the name of Christ,
you can still save your soul.
  • 69:13 - 69:16
    You must understand the difference
    between Heaven and Hell.
  • 69:16 - 69:21
    Ask the Lord for forgiveness,
    and I’ll baptize you,
  • 69:21 - 69:25
    and you'll have glory
    and eternal peace in Heaven.
  • 69:25 - 69:29
    Otherwise, you'll suffer
    eternal torment in Hell.
  • 69:29 - 69:34
    Has he understood?
  • 69:34 - 69:36
    Do Christians go to Heaven?
  • 69:36 - 69:41
    Good Christians do.
  • 69:41 - 69:44
    Send me to Hell!
  • 69:44 - 69:46
    Silence!
  • 69:46 - 70:27
    This is what will happen
    if you defy the Christians.
  • 70:27 - 70:32
    What are they saying?
  • 70:32 - 70:34
    "l despise you."
  • 70:34 - 70:36
    "l despise your God."
  • 70:36 - 70:50
    "l despise your greed."
  • 70:50 - 71:04
    May God forgive us.
  • 71:04 - 71:14
    Shut them up!
  • 71:14 - 71:16
    What are they saying, Father?
  • 71:16 - 71:19
    His name!
  • 71:19 - 71:43
    Thanks to you,
    it will never be forgotten!
  • 71:43 - 71:45
    Okay, cut!
  • 71:45 - 72:00
    Okay, guys, that was incredible!
    Thank you.
  • 72:00 - 72:22
    We're going to do it!
  • 72:22 - 72:25
    Who is Daniel?
  • 72:25 - 72:28
    Come with us.
  • 72:28 - 73:27
    You're under arrest.
    Come with us.
  • 73:27 - 73:30
    Get back!
  • 73:30 - 73:31
    Excuse me!
  • 73:31 - 73:34
Take it easy! Take it easy!
    Please, please.
  • 73:34 - 73:35
    Please, please!
  • 73:35 - 73:42
    Get them!
  • 73:42 - 73:56
    Leave him alone!
  • 73:56 - 73:59
    It’s like a dream.
  • 73:59 - 74:10
    l can't believe it.
  • 74:10 - 74:15
The Water Committee has said that
    if Bolivian Waters doesn't leave,
  • 74:15 - 74:19
    blockades will continue
on the streets and on access roads.
  • 74:19 - 74:23
    The Committee has asked
    that the blockades continue,
  • 74:23 - 74:29
so the majority of roads and streets
    will remain in that state.
  • 74:29 - 74:32
    The government has declared
    a state of emergency
  • 74:32 - 74:36
and has sent special police forces
    from La Paz
  • 74:36 - 74:40
    to prevent acts of vandalism
    and violence.
  • 74:40 - 74:46
    September 14th Square
    is still held by citizens.
  • 74:46 - 74:49
    The roads linking Cochabamba
with the rest of the country
  • 74:49 - 74:52
    are still blocked.
  • 74:52 - 74:57
    The Republic's vice-president
says this is an act of subversion
  • 74:57 - 75:00
    aimed at destabilizing
  • 75:00 - 75:04
    a democratically elected
    constitutional government.
  • 75:04 - 75:06
    It is an opportunistic protest
  • 75:06 - 75:11
    intended to submerge the country
    in disorder and chaos.
  • 75:11 - 75:12
    Guys...
  • 75:12 - 75:15
    Guys! Guys! Guys!
  • 75:15 - 75:17
    I’m sorry, but I’m scared.
  • 75:17 - 75:20
l want a ticket home right now.
    And I’m serious.
  • 75:20 - 75:20
    Me too.
  • 75:20 - 75:23
How the fuck can you leave the film?
  • 75:23 - 75:26
    You can't just dump us.
  • 75:26 - 75:28
    - You signed a contract.
    - Don't bullshit me!
  • 75:28 - 75:31
    - You can't even guarantee our safety!
    - Yes, I can.
  • 75:31 - 75:33
    - You can't!
    - I can! Shut up and listen!
  • 75:33 - 75:35
This is an eight-hour drive away.
  • 75:35 - 75:38
    The countryside is practically
    the same, and it's safe.
  • 75:38 - 75:40
    Costa! I’m scared!
  • 75:40 - 75:42
    Understand?
  • 75:42 - 75:44
    Scared.
  • 75:44 - 75:46
And I’ve got a new baby.
  • 75:46 - 75:49
    Anything could happen.
I don't want to be here when it does.
  • 75:49 - 75:52
    Run, little rabbits. Run, run.
  • 75:52 - 75:53
    Fucking cowards.
  • 75:53 - 75:56
    - What would Bartolome do?
    - Piss off.
  • 75:56 - 75:59
Yeah, lots of yaku, lots of
    "poor Indians," and now what?
  • 75:59 - 76:00
    Fuck them!
  • 76:00 - 76:02
    What can we do?
  • 76:02 - 76:03
    They're telling you!
  • 76:03 - 76:06
    Go to a safe place
    and finish our work!
  • 76:06 - 76:09
That's what we have to do!
    We owe it to them!
  • 76:09 - 76:12
l promise this place is safe.
  • 76:12 - 76:16
l spoke to them 15 minutes ago.
    They've hired private security.
  • 76:16 - 76:20
    We'll pack essentials
and get out before we're trapped.
  • 76:20 - 76:21
    The roads are still clear.
  • 76:21 - 76:23
Yes, but I don't know for how long.
  • 76:23 - 76:27
    Please, really...
  • 76:27 - 76:33
    I’m begging you.
  • 76:33 - 76:37
    I’m going.
  • 76:37 - 76:38
    Come on!
  • 76:38 - 76:42
    Come on, guys.
  • 76:42 - 76:54
    Yes?
  • 76:54 - 77:12
    - Yes.
    - Thank you.
  • 77:12 - 77:17
    Can you hear me, Costa?
    We're leaving now.
  • 77:17 - 77:18
    Okay, perfect.
    We're leaving, too.
  • 77:18 - 77:21
Get a move on. Don't wait for us.
    We'll catch up.
  • 77:21 - 77:23
    Bye.
  • 77:23 - 77:26
They're about to close the road.
    We have to go now!
  • 77:26 - 77:31
    Everyone into the cars!
    Come on, we're going!
  • 77:31 - 77:32
    Who's left?
  • 77:32 - 77:47
    Shit, wardrobe!
It’s always the same! Let's go!
  • 77:47 - 77:49
    Teresa, what's wrong?
  • 77:49 - 77:52
l came to ask you a favor.
    My daughter ran off.
  • 77:52 - 77:54
She was playing with her friends,
  • 77:54 - 77:57
    and they went off
    to the demonstration.
  • 77:57 - 77:59
    - The demonstration?
    - And now she's hurt.
  • 77:59 - 78:01
They rang me from the post office.
  • 78:01 - 78:02
    She's hurt?
  • 78:02 - 78:06
    Some neighbors called me
    and told me she's injured.
  • 78:06 - 78:08
    How could you leave Belen
    in the middle of this?
  • 78:08 - 78:13
If we don't go, she might die.
    Please, help me!
  • 78:13 - 78:16
Help me get her to the hospital.
    Please.
  • 78:16 - 78:19
    She's bleeding badly.
  • 78:19 - 78:21
    I’m desperate.
I don't know what to do.
  • 78:21 - 78:26
    - I’m begging you, please.
    - All right, I’ll send someone now.
  • 78:26 - 78:28
    No, not someone else!
  • 78:28 - 78:32
    They won't let anyone through.
    The police are there.
  • 78:32 - 78:36
No one can get past them,
    but maybe you can.
  • 78:36 - 78:39
    But I can't go.
I’m about to leave with the crew.
  • 78:39 - 78:43
Who else can I turn to?
    There's no one else.
  • 78:43 - 78:45
    - There's only you.
    - What's wrong?
  • 78:45 - 78:49
Help me, I’m begging you, please.
    I’m begging you.
  • 78:49 - 78:54
    Wait here.
  • 78:54 - 78:56
    - Something's happened to Belen.
    - What?
  • 78:56 - 78:57
    I don't know.
    She's been hurt.
  • 78:57 - 78:59
    Fuck!
  • 78:59 - 79:01
She asked me to go with her.
  • 79:01 - 79:05
    No, you're not going anywhere.
    It’s a war zone, Costa.
  • 79:05 - 79:08
    - But she asked me.
    - You can't do anything!
  • 79:08 - 79:12
    Don't fuck me about!
    Tell her you're not going.
  • 79:12 - 79:21
    We need you with us!
    Please, Costa.
  • 79:21 - 79:24
    - I’ll send someone, okay, Teresa?
    - You have to help me, please.
  • 79:24 - 79:26
    Help me.
    Don't leave me like this.
  • 79:26 - 79:29
No one else is any use.
    They won't get through.
  • 79:29 - 79:33
    l can't go, Teresa.
I’m responsible for the whole crew.
  • 79:33 - 79:38
    l can't leave them now.
    l can't do it, Teresa!
  • 79:38 - 79:40
    Come on, let's fucking go!
  • 79:40 - 79:51
    - Let's go!
    - Please, you're a friend.
  • 79:51 - 79:52
    Wait here.
  • 79:52 - 79:55
    Just a second, Bruno.
    Just a second.
  • 79:55 - 79:59
    - I’m taking Belen to the hospital.
    - No, no, you're crazy!
  • 79:59 - 80:01
    No, Costa, listen to me!
  • 80:01 - 80:04
This confrontation is going to end,
    and it'll be forgotten.
  • 80:04 - 80:06
    But our film
    is going to last forever.
  • 80:06 - 80:10
Please, come with us. If anything
happens to you, we're all fucked!
  • 80:10 - 80:12
    - Listen, listen, listen.
    - No, no!
  • 80:12 - 80:13
Listen to me for once in your life!
  • 80:13 - 80:16
If anything happens to that child,
    I’ll never forgive myself.
  • 80:16 - 80:21
The army is on its way!
    They'll crush everyone! You too!
  • 80:21 - 80:24
    - I can't leave the child there!
    - What can you do?
  • 80:24 - 80:27
    l can't leave her there.
  • 80:27 - 80:30
    - Help me out, man, please.
    - Fuck!
  • 80:30 - 80:34
    Help me, Sebastian, please!
    You go with the crew.
  • 80:34 - 80:38
l just can't leave that child.
    l can't.
  • 80:38 - 80:42
    You go with them.
  • 80:42 - 81:23
    Teresa, come on.
  • 81:23 - 81:26
    It’s blocked!
  • 81:26 - 81:28
    There's no way through.
    Go down there.
  • 81:28 - 81:48
    - This way?
    - Yes, go down there.
  • 81:48 - 81:52
    l can see
    the Water Company building.
  • 81:52 - 81:54
    I’m at the corner.
  • 81:54 - 81:57
    One block away.
  • 81:57 - 82:00
    l can see the flagpole.
  • 82:00 - 82:04
    The soldiers are entrenched
    behind their shields.
  • 82:04 - 82:08
    They're armed with rifles,
    tear gas, rubber bullets,
  • 82:08 - 82:11
    or something worse,
    l can't see clearly.
  • 82:11 - 82:15
But behind me, the image is
    an incredible sight.
  • 82:15 - 82:18
    Young and old,
people of all ages from the city,
  • 82:18 - 82:22
    peasants and coca growers
    are lining up.
  • 82:22 - 82:25
l think they're going to the charge.
  • 82:25 - 82:26
There must be 2,000 of them,
  • 82:26 - 82:30
    and more are flooding in
    from the side streets.
  • 82:30 - 82:31
    Here they go!
  • 82:31 - 82:43
    A citizens' army
    with sticks for weapons!
  • 82:43 - 82:45
    What do we do?
  • 82:45 - 83:10
    I’ll talk to them.
  • 83:10 - 83:20
    Thank you! Thank you!
    Thank you!
  • 83:20 - 83:24
The army is firing with live ammo!
  • 83:24 - 83:26
    I’ve seen a dozen drop,
  • 83:26 - 83:29
    but the demonstrators still charge.
  • 83:29 - 83:31
    Rocks against bullets!
  • 83:31 - 83:33
    Bodies fall all around me.
  • 83:33 - 83:49
    Dozens of injured.
  • 83:49 - 84:04
    Fuck, Costa, answer!
  • 84:04 - 84:07
    Pull over, Mister.
  • 84:07 - 85:41
We'll never get out of here, guys.
    No fucking way!
  • 85:41 - 85:47
    Shit. Fuck.
  • 85:47 - 86:42
    Get down!
  • 86:42 - 86:46
    Belen, love,
what did they do to you?
  • 86:46 - 86:48
What did they do to you?
  • 86:48 - 86:52
    I’m here, love.
  • 86:52 - 86:55
    - Are you relatives?
    - That's her mother. How is she?
  • 86:55 - 86:57
    She's getting worse.
    She's very weak.
  • 86:57 - 87:00
I’ve got a car. We can take her
    and others to the hospital.
  • 87:00 - 87:02
    No, the roads are blocked
    by the police.
  • 87:02 - 87:04
    How will you get through?
  • 87:04 - 87:07
    - With money, that always works.
    - Yes?
  • 87:07 - 87:17
    All right.
  • 87:17 - 87:21
    Belen, it's Costa.
  • 87:21 - 87:23
    Where's Dad?
  • 87:23 - 87:26
    Don't worry, love,
    he'll be here soon.
  • 87:26 - 87:31
I’m here now, you're not alone.
  • 87:31 - 87:33
    l can't feel my leg.
  • 87:33 - 87:37
    Belen, can you hear me?
  • 87:37 - 87:54
We're taking you to the hospital.
  • 87:54 - 88:06
    What the hell's going on?
    Can't you see we're working?
  • 88:06 - 88:10
    The others are out.
  • 88:10 - 88:13
    What are they up to?
  • 88:13 - 88:17
    You're a moron, shut up!
  • 88:17 - 88:19
    Bastard!
    He broke his neck!
  • 88:19 - 88:20
    Calm down! Calm down!
  • 88:20 - 88:21
    - Bastard!
    - Shut up!
  • 88:21 - 88:25
    What the fuck is this?
    Look out the fucking window!
  • 88:25 - 88:27
    Just look out the window!
  • 88:27 - 88:30
What the hell are we doing here?
  • 88:30 - 88:32
    Look at that! That's it.
  • 88:32 - 88:34
    Sebastian, we're getting out.
  • 88:34 - 88:38
    We've decided.
    We're going to the airport.
  • 88:38 - 88:42
    It’s over, Sebastian.
    Can you not see?
  • 88:42 - 88:43
    I’m staying.
  • 88:43 - 88:46
Sebastian, I’m sorry, look, it's over.
    We're going.
  • 88:46 - 88:48
    Maria, we're going with them.
  • 88:48 - 88:51
    We're going, Maria.
    I’ve got your case.
  • 88:51 - 88:58
    Sebastian, come on.
  • 88:58 - 89:06
    So stubborn.
  • 89:06 - 89:08
    Are you going, too?
  • 89:08 - 89:12
    I’m sorry.
  • 89:12 - 89:43
    Come on, Sebastian.
  • 89:43 - 90:14
    - Anton?
    - No one's waiting for me.
  • 90:14 - 91:10
    Hey, you! You can't speak
    to the prisoners!
  • 91:10 - 91:15
    - Can I see her?
    - Yes, on you go.
  • 91:15 - 91:17
    Doctor, how is she?
  • 91:17 - 91:19
    Got her just in time.
  • 91:19 - 91:22
She lost a lot of blood,
    but she's stable.
  • 91:22 - 91:24
    She'll pull through.
  • 91:24 - 91:29
    - The thing is...
    - What?
  • 91:29 - 91:34
    We saved her leg,
    but it's badly damaged.
  • 91:34 - 91:43
    She'll have problems walking,
    if at all...
  • 91:43 - 91:45
l have to find her father.
  • 91:45 - 92:49
    Thank you, Doctor.
  • 92:49 - 93:02
    Where's the army?
  • 93:02 - 93:05
    Stop the fighting.
  • 93:05 - 93:08
    The water is yours.
  • 93:08 - 93:12
    Stop the fighting.
  • 93:12 - 94:47
    The water is yours.
  • 94:47 - 95:09
    How's Belen?
  • 95:09 - 95:13
    You're in the news everywhere.
  • 95:13 - 95:16
    "Multinational pulls out of Bolivia
    after water war."
  • 95:16 - 95:20
    That's you.
  • 95:20 - 95:24
    It always costs us dear.
  • 95:24 - 95:27
    It’s never easy.
l wish there was another way.
  • 95:27 - 95:31
    But there's not.
  • 95:31 - 95:37
    And the toughest bit
    is still to come.
  • 95:37 - 95:41
What are you going to do?
  • 95:41 - 95:44
    I don't know.
  • 95:44 - 95:48
    Help Sebastian finish this.
  • 95:48 - 95:52
    Somehow.
  • 95:52 - 95:55
    Somewhere.
    But I don't know how.
  • 95:55 - 96:00
    And you, Daniel,
what are you going to do?
  • 96:00 - 96:04
    Survive, like always.
  • 96:04 - 96:09
    It’s what we do best.
  • 96:09 - 96:19
Listen, Daniel, I’m going to help you
    with Belen, I promise.
  • 96:19 - 96:28
    Will you come back?
  • 96:28 - 96:44
    I don't think so.
  • 96:44 - 96:50
    It’s a gift.
  • 96:50 - 96:54
    Thank you.
  • 96:54 - 96:57
    You saved my daughter's life.
  • 96:57 - 97:04
    l won't forget that.
  • 97:04 - 97:10
Listen, I have to go, okay?
  • 97:10 - 97:13
    Take good care.
  • 97:13 - 97:15
    Please.
  • 97:15 - 97:17
    Take care.
  • 97:17 - 98:24
    You too.
  • 98:24 - 98:26
    Yaku.
