João Pedro Ribeiro

I'm 20, I live in Campos do Jordão,

in São Paulo, Brazil.

I study journalism, I... I...

work as a temp at a local,
small, TV station in Taubaté

and I love the world of broadcasting,
news, journalism itself and languages.

I don't... I can't really explain
why I like those, but I...

I love english, I also speak a bunch of other languages:

my native language, which is portuguese,
spanish, and a little bit of italian.

But english is my main focus, because
I also work as an english teacher

I help people who struggle with
the english language

and that's a profession,
that's a job that I love.

[portuguese] I speak portuguese,
it's my mother tongue,

and I like portuguese a lot,
all the other languages too,

but I like portuguese a lot, and...

since I live in the inland
region of São Paulo,

I've lived in the south
region of Minas Gerais too, I...

I have a slight accent from these places.

It's not like the people from
the city of São Paulo,

that say 'porrta' (trill 'r').

This, for us here in Campos do Jordão,

is something unnatural, you don't
hear many people speaking this way

here in Campos and Taubaté

but, uh...

here we say 'porta' (retroflex 'r'), and...

and we also 'eat' a lot the
final syllables of words, like:

'por-de casa', 'por-do quarto'

there are other examples,

I don't remember them now,
but there surely are more.

Anyway...

I really like portuguese, and... that's it!

[spanish] I speak a little bit
of spanish too

I learned, and I did not study it
like I studied english

but, [he repeats] I didn't study it
like I studied english

but I have the opportunity
to practice it with friends of Argentina.

I wish that, hopefully,
someday I'll go to Argentina...

and soon.

But... it's a language that I kind of
learned by immersion.

Even if I never went to Argentina,
it's something I always use with friends,

with the people I know from Argentina.

I have friends from
Buenos Aires, and Mar del Plata.

And also, since I like journalism,
I've always been

sort of paying attention to the
media of Argentina

and that's a thing I like, you know?
It's a way of practicing the languages

that one speaks, that one knows,
and that's it.

The only thing I wanted to say is that
I'm tired of staying in Brazil for so long

I never left Brazil, and I hope that
I may leave Brazil,

not to leave forever,

but that I may travel abroad,

and that's what I hope.
