Guy Kawasaki: Connection Through Reciprocation

  • Not Synced
    Invoke reciprocation
  • Not Synced
This is a carpet that depicts
    the battle between Italy and
  • Not Synced
    Ethiopia because Italy invaded
    Ethiopia in the 1930s.
  • Not Synced
    When that invasion occurred,
  • Not Synced
    the people of Mexico
    donated money and
  • Not Synced
    sent it to the
    people of Ethiopia.
  • Not Synced
    Something like 80 years later,
  • Not Synced
    Mexico had this horrendous
    series of earthquakes,
  • Not Synced
    lots of dead people, lots
    of injury, lots of suffering.
  • Not Synced
    The people of Ethiopia, even
though they were in a famine,
  • Not Synced
    collected money and sent
    money to Mexico because they
  • Not Synced
    felt the necessary
    obligation to reciprocate.
  • Not Synced
    Fast forward a few years.
  • Not Synced
About right after the Civil War,
the people of Charleston, South Carolina,
  • Not Synced
    were using bucket
    brigades to fight fires.
  • Not Synced
The people of New York, including
    Union soldiers, heard about this.
  • Not Synced
And they donated money to buy the
city of Charleston a fire truck.
  • Not Synced
    That first fire truck was
    on a boat that sank.
  • Not Synced
    So, they had to raise
    money again and send
  • Not Synced
    another fire truck
    to Charleston.
  • Not Synced
    Fast forward to
    right after 09/11.
  • Not Synced
    The people of Charleston raised
over half a million dollars to
  • Not Synced
buy a fire truck for the people of
New York because the people of
  • Not Synced
    Charleston pledged that if
New York ever needed its help,
  • Not Synced
    it would come through,
    135 years later.
  • Not Synced
    Reciprocation is a
    very powerful force
  • Not Synced
    to make your
    enchantment endure.
