Smaktest Predator

  • 0:02 - 0:06
the 3 most common species in
    Swedish lakes are
  • 0:06 - 0:07
    Pike
  • 0:07 - 0:08
    Perch
  • 0:08 - 0:09
    Zander
  • 0:09 - 0:14
You've always heard that zander is
the best fish to eat amongst these 3
  • 0:14 - 0:17
Perch is so tasty on sandwich
  • 0:17 - 0:23
and pike is so much bone in it
but you can eat it with horseradish
  • 0:24 - 0:28
Sara and I will fish in a regular
    Swedish lake
  • 0:28 - 0:32
and catch those 3 species and then we'll
    do a tasting test
  • 0:32 - 0:36
Is it possible, by cook them the same way,
    feel a difference in taste
  • 0:36 - 0:40
Not only a challenge to see if they
    taste different
  • 0:41 - 0:44
The big challenge will be to catch
    these 3 speicies
  • 0:44 - 0:47
It's early spring, cold in the water
  • 0:47 - 0:51
You can't count on the fish to be active
  • 0:51 - 0:55
But the things we do to see if it's
    actually any difference in taste
  • 0:56 - 1:00
In lakes this early in the spring,
the perch can often be found in deep holes
  • 1:00 - 1:03
    or on the edges,
    pressed against the bottom
  • 1:04 - 1:06
The pike is where the bait fish is
  • 1:06 - 1:11
The zander can be tricky but you often
    find them on a shallow
  • 1:13 - 1:17
There is one lure that can catch
    all 3 species
  • 1:17 - 1:19
    And that is flatnose mini
  • 1:20 - 1:25
Flatnose mini is a well known lure
which we fished with a lot
  • 1:25 - 1:28
And most often it has been the
    key to success
  • 1:28 - 1:30
Let's hope it's the same this time
  • 1:30 - 1:34
But first we'll read some of your comments
  • 1:34 - 1:37
    First comment is from Grisfeber
    and he wonder why
  • 1:37 - 1:42
I turn to a Skåning when I say toad
as I did in the latest video
  • 1:42 - 1:43
    A toooaad
  • 1:43 - 1:45
    A real toooaaad
  • 1:45 - 1:47
    A toooaaad perch
  • 1:47 - 1:51
And the reason is that I fished bream with
Alexander Björk a few years back
  • 1:51 - 1:55
He's from Skåne and say tooaaad
    to al the big breams
  • 1:56 - 1:58
This was a toooaaad, it was
  • 1:58 - 2:02
It sounded so funny so I started
    to say that aswell
  • 2:02 - 2:06
toooaaad to all big perch or fish
    or whatever
  • 2:07 - 2:12
    We've got a comment from Frejsan14
who wants us to say hello to her mother
  • 2:12 - 2:16
So hello mother and Frejsan 14
So fun you watch our videos together
  • 2:17 - 2:22
HolyN-Evil wonders if we will fish
at the west coast this summer
  • 2:23 - 2:27
We've actually planned that out, Me and
Edvin will go there and try som sea fishing
  • 2:27 - 2:31
after a vary of species, and you don't
want to miss out on that
  • 2:31 - 2:37
Dick Löfrgren says that we gilding his
    sundays, so thank you
  • 2:37 - 2:41
I hope you keep on watching now
cause me and Tobbe is about to catch some
  • 2:49 - 2:54
A good start to the day
    It's stormy weather
  • 2:54 - 2:59
Not that easy to ramp the boat
when the water is pushed straight in
  • 2:59 - 3:06
task number 1 today is to get the boat
in the water, there are a lot of stones
  • 3:06 - 3:10
I don't want to scrape it all up
  • 3:10 - 3:17
The idea is for us to start fishing for perch
but it's hard to even feel the strikes
  • 3:17 - 3:22
it wont be easy, but on the bright side
    we have no rain
  • 3:23 - 3:28
If i push the boat that way, it will just
    blow straight back
  • 3:28 - 3:31
we need to push it alongside the shore
  • 3:31 - 3:34
and then jump in the boat out there
  • 3:35 - 3:38
come on Sara, let's start pushing
  • 3:38 - 3:41
    - No stones please
    - easy to say Tobbe
  • 3:43 - 3:44
    push Sara!
  • 3:47 - 3:50
No need to worry, this was easy
  • 3:55 - 4:00
You don't want to rig the rods in the
    storm on this lake
  • 4:00 - 4:03
    with really clear water
  • 4:03 - 4:06
Therefore we'll go in there where we
can have som shelter from the wind
  • 4:06 - 4:09
behind this point it looks perfect
  • 4:11 - 4:15
we will catch perch, pike and zander
  • 4:15 - 4:20
In this small forest lake only holds
    perch and pike
  • 4:20 - 4:23
so the zander we'll have to catch later
    on another lake
  • 4:23 - 4:28
I want the perch and pike to get the best
chance to taste as good as possible
  • 4:28 - 4:34
If we where to fish perch and pike in a
    small muddy lake
  • 4:34 - 4:38
The risk is for them to taste a bit muddy
  • 4:38 - 4:42
This lake has very clear water
and the quality of the water i good
  • 4:42 - 4:45
It's much of sand an stones on the bottom
  • 4:45 - 4:51
And then you know the perch and pike
get the best chance to taste good
  • 4:52 - 4:56
flatnose mini is the lure I fished
    with the most
  • 4:56 - 5:01
Edvin designed it for 10-15 years ago
  • 5:01 - 5:05
    what's great about this softlure
  • 5:05 - 5:07
    you can catch big perch....
  • 5:08 - 5:09
    big pike...
  • 5:09 - 5:11
    and even big zander
  • 5:12 - 5:17
flatnose mini isn't only good for big fish
it works great if you want a lot of fish
  • 5:17 - 5:23
today we're after fish to cook and don't
want to spend to much time catching them
  • 5:23 - 5:26
so flatnose mini is a safe bet
  • 5:27 - 5:31
you can find flatnose mini in photofish
where you can design your own colours
  • 5:31 - 5:37
and we also got some brand new
    standard colours
  • 5:37 - 5:42
I'm so stoked to try out this new colour
    fantasy which is blue/red
  • 5:42 - 5:45
I think it will be hot in this clear water
  • 5:45 - 5:49
I want the best chance to catch a big per.
  • 5:49 - 5:53
Not a big perch but catch one fast
    I usually want big fish
  • 5:54 - 5:58
So therefore I'll try this new colour
    Sara brought today, Ultimate Silver!
  • 5:59 - 6:02
It looks like a cool silver fish
  • 6:03 - 6:07
The perch can't resist it, even the pikes
  • 6:07 - 6:11
The plan is to catch both perch and pike
    in this water
  • 6:11 - 6:15
and the pike will be like a bonus fish
    when we try for perch
  • 6:15 - 6:19
It's time to start, I'm feeling hungry
    already
  • 6:19 - 6:23
Let's see if the perch or pike will
    be the first fish
  • 6:26 - 6:31
When you try to catch fish to cook
it's so much more on stake
  • 6:31 - 6:36
We want to avoid being hungry
    so we must deliver
  • 6:36 - 6:38
Sooner or later we'll find them
  • 6:39 - 6:41
    I got one! got one!
  • 6:41 - 6:44
I told you we'll find them sooner or later
  • 6:44 - 6:48
    - It was sooner rather than later
    - yeah like 2 seconds after
  • 6:49 - 6:52
    I don't know if it's a pike or a perch
    but I think it's a pike
  • 6:52 - 6:55
It may be a good fish to cook,
    It's a pike
  • 6:57 - 7:00
Is it big enough to eat?
  • 7:00 - 7:04
there's a lot of bones in the pike
  • 7:04 - 7:07
so it's a lot easier with a bigger pike
  • 7:07 - 7:11
But I don't want to take home those
    big pikes
  • 7:11 - 7:14
It's okey to take this small pike
  • 7:14 - 7:18
It's a test and not supposedt o get full
  • 7:18 - 7:22
so this small pike will be enough
  • 7:23 - 7:28
This pike really wanted that flatnose mini
  • 7:29 - 7:33
It'll work great for our taste test
  • 7:34 - 7:37
We'll prep it for the soup
  • 7:37 - 7:41
There's 2 ways to put the pike to death
  • 7:41 - 7:44
One thing is to strike something hard
    in it's head
  • 7:44 - 7:48
The other thing is to use a knife
    through it's brain
  • 7:48 - 7:51
I don't have anything that hard
in the boat so I'll use the knife
  • 7:53 - 7:55
It's important to let it bleed out
  • 7:55 - 7:58
otherwise it may taste a bit blood
    and iron
  • 8:00 - 8:03
I'll make a cut through the neck of it
  • 8:04 - 8:06
    - here you go Tobbe
    - thanks
  • 8:09 - 8:10
    yummy!
  • 8:10 - 8:14
Check on the pike, let's catch a perch
    in this lake
  • 8:15 - 8:20
I've googled a good recipe on a fish soup
I can't wait to try it out
  • 8:20 - 8:23
    I believe it'll taste good
  • 8:23 - 8:26
So it's time to catch that perch to cook
  • 8:26 - 8:33
This wind is brutal, It's like a wind from
the North pole has reach Sweden
  • 8:33 - 8:39
and made chaos on this lake, It's not that
easy to fish if I'm being honest
  • 8:39 - 8:44
It's hard to feel the lure, you'll really
    have to concentrate
  • 8:47 - 8:51
It's positive that you can cast really far
  • 8:57 - 9:03
It's a deep edge where we fish right now
I've seen some perch earlier on the sonar
  • 9:04 - 9:09
It's important in this wind that you either
    fish against the wind
  • 9:09 - 9:13
Or with the wind, otherwise you'll
    not feel the strike
  • 9:13 - 9:17
if you fish from the side wind the line
    is like a bow
  • 9:17 - 9:23
and you can't even feel if there's a perch
  • 9:23 - 9:28
a good tip, just hope we'll catch one soon
  • 9:39 - 9:43
I've got a bad feeling with this lake
  • 9:43 - 9:46
I don't think the perch will strike
  • 9:46 - 9:51
often in clear water lake there are
    not so much perch
  • 9:51 - 9:55
But they are often bigger and should
    taste better
  • 9:55 - 9:59
If we don't catch one it'll be hard to
    do a tasting test
  • 9:59 - 10:04
We'll have to go to a more muddy lake
a little bit darker water but more perch
  • 10:11 - 10:15
This is our last try, we don't have
    much time at this lake
  • 10:15 - 10:19
    It's bigger, muddier but not
    super muddy
  • 10:19 - 10:22
It's kind of ok clear water
  • 10:22 - 10:25
I'll cross my fingers that we can catch
    a perch to cook
  • 10:25 - 10:28
It wont be to much to ask for
  • 10:28 - 10:31
nothing else to do than to get going
  • 10:31 - 10:37
I've not given up on this fantasy, let's
see if it can give us a half muddy perch
  • 10:39 - 10:45
Then I know when I taste, if it tastes
a bit muddy it's probably perh
  • 10:46 - 10:49
    we'll see, now let's catch a perch
  • 10:49 - 10:52
It would be nice if you get
    a strike at least
  • 10:52 - 10:55
well at least something, a nibble or so
  • 10:56 - 11:00
    - It's totally dead now
    - feels like you fish for nothing
  • 11:01 - 11:04
    hello!, where are you perch?
  • 11:04 - 11:08
    - really
    - that's perch, if they're not up for it
  • 11:08 - 11:12
Pikes you can always trigger to strike
  • 11:12 - 11:16
but perch like "I wont eat today"
  • 11:18 - 11:22
The perch refuse to strike today
  • 11:23 - 11:28
Me and Sara are on land and there's
only one thing to do until tomorrow
  • 11:28 - 11:32
and we can hope for both perch
and zander to be willing to strike
  • 11:32 - 11:34
and that is to clean out this pike
