The Road to Gender Equality - Malala’s story | Nations United
-
0:20 - 0:21Just after I was born,
-
0:21 - 0:23my father got our family tree.
-
0:23 - 0:25It went back 300 years.
-
0:26 - 0:29But not a woman's name appeared on it.
-
0:30 - 0:32He decided to make me the first.
-
0:33 - 0:35He wrote Malala
-
0:36 - 0:37That's me.
-
0:39 - 0:42When her father's school was closed down the Taliban
-
0:49 - 0:50I have rights.
-
0:50 - 0:52I have the right of education,
-
0:52 - 0:53I have the right to play,
-
0:53 - 0:55I have the right to sing, to talk,
-
0:55 - 0:57I have the right to go to the market
-
0:57 - 0:59I have the right to speak up.
-
0:59 - 1:11(music is playing)
-
1:11 - 1:13(gunshot noise)
-
1:16 - 1:18They shot her in the head.
-
1:18 - 1:20She's still in critical condition.
-
1:25 - 1:27She was airlifted to a military hospital
-
1:27 - 1:29in Peshawar where she had surgery
-
1:29 - 1:31A surgeon's battle to safe her life.
-
1:40 - 1:42In this foto released today,
-
1:42 - 1:44Malala's eyes have opened.
-
1:44 - 1:46We have some really good news to report.
-
1:46 - 1:48Malala Yousafzai walked out
-
1:48 - 1:50of the London hospital today.
-
1:53 - 1:55Today,
-
1:55 - 1:58it is an honour for me
-
1:58 - 2:00to be speaking again
-
2:00 - 2:01after a long time.
-
2:04 - 2:06They thought that the bullet
-
2:06 - 2:08would silent us.
-
2:10 - 2:11But they failed.
-
2:21 - 2:24My message right now is to young people.
-
2:25 - 2:28We are living in a world where
-
2:28 - 2:30things are not the way we want.
-
2:30 - 2:35We're getting a system, a world which is
-
2:35 - 2:37unequal, sexist, racist.
-
2:37 - 2:42They are discriminating aganist people.
-
2:42 - 2:44Our climate, our enviroment is at risk.
-
2:44 - 2:46And there's so much that needs to be done
-
2:46 - 2:47But, I hope that
-
2:47 - 2:51young people stand up, raise their voices,
-
2:51 - 2:53start their activism right now.
-
2:53 - 2:54Let your age not stop you.
-
2:54 - 2:56Often times we are told that
-
2:56 - 2:58you have to be 14, 15 to change the world.
-
2:58 - 2:59I do not believe in that.
-
2:59 - 3:01I think you can be a change maker now.
-
3:01 - 3:05If you are 11, 16; if you are 30, 40.
-
3:05 - 3:07Change is possible anytime.
-
3:07 - 3:10And I want you to believe in yourself and
-
3:10 - 3:12make this world fairer, more equal and
-
3:12 - 3:14a better place for each and everyone.
-
3:16 - 3:18And once again,
-
3:18 - 3:19there are positive solutions
-
3:19 - 3:21that can turn around things fast.
-
3:24 - 3:27We need more women in positions of power.
-
3:28 - 3:29At every level of government.
-
3:30 - 3:31The time has come for
-
3:31 - 3:34quoters that make sure that women are
-
3:34 - 3:35equally represented
-
3:35 - 3:37in every country.
-
3:38 - 3:40It's time make our laws equal.
-
Not SyncedSo that every woman is entitled to a job,
