Heredity and Hats (LIVE) | Critical Role RPG Show Episode 60
-
0:00 - 0:10(cheering)
-
0:10 - 0:19KEVIN: All right! (cheers) Welcome! Is my mic on?
It's on, whoa, yeah, welcome to the very first -
0:19 - 0:30inaugural premiere edition of Critical Role live!
Guys, my name's Kevin. I am the social media -
0:30 - 0:38director for Geek and Sundry-- yes, thank you very
much, I am indeed a very cool person. I've been -
0:38 - 0:42with Geek and Sundry for about eight months now,
it was really intimidating at first because I kept -
0:42 - 0:51mixing up Vax and Vex. Yeah, I still mix up Vax
and Vex. But okay, what I was going to say was -
0:51 - 0:55that Critical Role fans are the warmest, most
welcoming fans. -
0:55 - 0:59(cheering)
-
0:59 - 1:05KEVIN: Yeah! Except for that guy. Right? But no, I
love you guys, give yourselves a big hand, thank -
1:05 - 1:07you so much.
-
1:07 - 1:09(cheering)
-
1:09 - 1:14KEVIN: I want you guys to know, this is our first
time doing this, this is as I said the first -
1:14 - 1:22inaugural premiere, they're all synonyms, right?
So if you're like me you're extremely excited. But -
1:22 - 1:26please remember that all the people at home are
still watching, say hi to the people at home, hi -
1:26 - 1:27people at home.
-
1:27 - 1:29AUDIENCE: Hi!
-
1:29 - 1:34KEVIN: Right? So please do me a favor, put your
phones on silent, all right? The house lights are -
1:34 - 1:38going to be kind of dim, so you can use your
phones, you can tweet, you can do social media -
1:38 - 1:43posts, whatever you want, if there's a Cubone
somewhere please let me know, tweet at me. I need -
1:43 - 1:52like ten Cubones. So yeah, just put everything on
silent and be silent about it. You can tweet about -
1:52 - 1:56the show, please use the hashtag
#CriticalRoleLive, surprisingly enough. Do me -
1:56 - 2:02another favor, don't do the concert pic thing
where you put your phone up and record for ten -
2:02 - 2:06minutes at a time, because there are people behind
you, as you may or may not know, so I'd really -
2:06 - 2:14appreciate that. The other thing is, this not a
Rocky Horror thing, so don't shout out like, I -
2:14 - 2:18would like to rage. Don't do that stuff, don't
"how do you want to do this?" Don't do that stuff. -
2:18 - 2:26Be respectful of the people on stage. Think of
this as a funny play. You can laugh, you can woo, -
2:26 - 2:33but maybe don't shout out suggestions. Especially
the suggestions that I know a lot of you have in -
2:33 - 2:42your heads, right? Wait, I have one other thing.
There's a merch thing. The merch table's going to -
2:42 - 2:46be open after the show, is that right? Yes. After
the show, the merch table's going to be open, so -
2:46 - 2:50if you didn't get a chance to get merch, you're
going to get another chance to get merch, so don't -
2:50 - 2:55worry about that. Is there something else? VIPs
will get your posters after, so if you're a VIP, -
2:55 - 3:06you'll get a poster, just come-- where? Upstairs.
Okay. Don't worry. Right. Thank you. Let's hear it -
3:06 - 3:07for Claudia once again, guys.
-
3:07 - 3:14(cheering)
-
3:14 - 3:17KEVIN: All right, so, do you guys want to bring
them out? -
3:17 - 3:19(cheering)
-
3:19 - 3:27KEVIN: All right. Let's start with the master of
dick-lightning and shit-scrying, playing Scanlan -
3:27 - 3:30Shorthalt, Mr. Sam Riegel!
-
3:30 - 3:34(cheering)
-
3:34 - 3:36KEVIN: All right!
-
3:36 - 3:42SAM: Thanks! You get a car! You get a car! You get
a car! -
3:42 - 3:51KEVIN: Guys, get your tickets to the gun show,
because the gun show's coming to town. Playing -
3:51 - 3:57Percival Fredrickstein von Mussel Klossowski de
Rolo III of Whitestone. Yeah, right, right. -
3:57 - 4:00Taliesin, let's bring him out, Taliesin Jaffe!
-
4:00 - 4:15(cheering)
-
4:15 - 4:20KEVIN: Guys, put your hands together, put your
antlers on your head, for Keyleth. Marisha Ray! -
4:20 - 4:31(cheering)
-
4:31 - 4:40KEVIN: Is she here? She's so stealthy, I don't
understand. -
4:40 - 4:43MARISHA: I'm an independent woman, all right?
-
4:43 - 4:45TALIESIN: Never mind, I give up.
-
4:45 - 4:48KEVIN: All right, let's bring out the man I have a
massive man-crush on-- -
4:48 - 4:49SAM: I'm already here!
-
4:49 - 4:53KEVIN: Liam O'Brien as Vax'ildan!
-
4:53 - 5:05(cheering)
-
5:05 - 5:07LIAM: What the hell!
-
5:07 - 5:14KEVIN: This next woman was stuffing exotic animals
into tiny balls before it was cool. Laura Bailey -
5:14 - 5:16as Vex'ahlia!
-
5:16 - 5:29(cheering)
-
5:29 - 5:31KEVIN: She's got the hipster glasses to prove it.
-
5:31 - 5:34LAURA: Yeah, that's right. It's not for seeing at
all, I don't... -
5:34 - 5:42KEVIN: And the next guy, the next guy, get out
your tubs of mayo for Mr. Travis Willingham as -
5:42 - 5:44Grog freaking Strongjaw!
-
5:44 - 5:56(cheering and chanting)
-
5:56 - 6:04KEVIN: All right, let's, let's bring it down.
Guys, there are certain names that people whisper -
6:04 - 6:11with reverence. Because those names belong to the
breakthrough artists in their field. Jim Henson, -
6:11 - 6:13Bob Dylan, Madame Curie.
-
6:13 - 6:16(laughter)
-
6:16 - 6:22KEVIN: Tonight we have one of those names with us.
You may know him. Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Matt -
6:22 - 6:23Mercer.
-
6:23 - 6:45(cheering)
-
6:45 - 6:49MATT: Oh boy. That's a lot, that's a lot of
people. -
6:49 - 6:53LAURA: Oh my gosh.
-
6:53 - 7:03MATT: All righty, let me shore up my positioning
here on the camera for you fine folks and open my -
7:03 - 7:06energy drink because that's what makes this show
happen. -
7:06 - 7:08TRAVIS: Caffeine and drugs.
-
7:08 - 7:17MATT: (shushing noises) Anyway, welcome everybody
to our first Critical Role live, all of you folks -
7:17 - 7:21there on the internet and everyone here in person
in Los Angeles, California. -
7:21 - 7:26(cheering)
-
7:26 - 7:31MATT: Welcome to Critical Role, where a bunch of
us nerdy-ass voice actors get together, roll dice, -
7:31 - 7:38and play Dungeons and Dragons. Tonight we have a
fantastic pick-up of last week's story where the -
7:38 - 7:44adventuring party Vox Machina found themselves
wandering through the Feywild. However, before -
7:44 - 7:49that happens, let us get to our fantastic sponsor
for the evening. Once again, this episode is -
7:49 - 7:54brought to you by Loot Crate, they've been
awesome. So thank you guys so much. -
7:54 - 7:58(cheering)
-
7:58 - 8:04MATT: The current Loot Crate theme for July is
Futuristic, includes a lot of awesome Rick and -
8:04 - 8:11Morty, Futurama, Mega Man, Valiant Comic stuff,
Star Trek, that fun element there. We've got music -
8:11 - 8:15playing, it's on. Oh man, I feel like things are
happening. -
8:15 - 8:17SAM: Music's working?
-
8:17 - 8:20LAURA: Music works, you guys, music works.
-
8:20 - 8:27MATT: There we go. Perfect. Tech stuff is coming
together. Yeah, so Futuristic is their crate theme -
8:27 - 8:35this month. We also have the anime Loot Crate is
themed Squadron. Has a bunch of stuff from Gundam, -
8:35 - 8:40Gate, Arpeggio of Blue Steel, Antimagic Academy, a

lootcrate.com/criticalrole and putting in -
8:45 - 8:50"criticalrole," one word, in your nice little Loot
Crate subscription bonus. -
8:50 - 8:57TRAVIS: I chew on Goku's head a lot. I'm a
fixated-- it's cool. -
8:57 - 9:02MATT: And the paint is actually healthy to eat,
apparently. That's not at all the reason why -
9:02 - 9:07Grog's intelligence is that low. So, if you
haven't checked it out yet, check out Loot Crate, -
9:07 - 9:14thank you guys so much for sponsoring our show, we
love you. Great. So. Next up we have-- we recently -
9:14 - 9:20had a t-shirt contest, didn't we? Laura, if you
want to take that away for me. -
9:20 - 9:23LAURA: Oh, this? Okay, so I get to announce who
the official winner is? -
9:23 - 9:24MATT: You do, actually, yeah.
-
9:24 - 9:28LAURA: Oh my gosh, this is so exciting. Okay. So
the official winner of the first Critter contest -
9:28 - 9:34is... Against the Chroma Conclave, designed by
Antmageddon! -
9:34 - 9:44(cheering)
-
9:44 - 9:51LAURA: So! As of right now, that shirt is
available in the Geek and Sundry store for -
9:51 - 9:56preorder. It's going to be there for I think two
weeks? And it's available in sizes small through -
9:56 - 10:013XL, which we're really excited about. And yeah,
so that's that, so. -
10:01 - 10:02TRAVIS: Go get one!
-
10:02 - 10:06LAURA: Go you guys for voting on that, you rock,
even with shenanigans. -
10:06 - 10:11MATT: There were so many amazing contenders for
that contest that the community puts out, so we-- -
10:11 - 10:14MARISHA: And we got hacked, which means we made
it. -
10:14 - 10:20MATT: Yay! Next announcement I have, when I
arrived here I discovered that there was an actual -
10:20 - 10:25PokeGym as a part of this mall, I'd like to ask
Team Valor to go ahead and make sure that shit -
10:25 - 10:27leaves red.
-
10:27 - 10:34(cheering and booing)
-
10:34 - 10:35TRAVIS: What a response!
-
10:35 - 10:37LAURA: That was a mixed reaction.
-
10:37 - 10:45MATT: Look, the whole San Fernando Valley's blue,
okay, give me something! All right, anyway. Yeah, -
10:45 - 10:51it's become a thing. And we have another cool
announcement. Travis, do you want to take it away -
10:51 - 10:52on that one?
-
10:52 - 10:57TRAVIS: Yes we do, the response to this live event
was so amazing that we are super stoked to -
10:57 - 11:03announce that we are going to also be doing
Critical Role live in Indianapolis during GenCon -
11:03 - 11:10on August 6, Saturday night. Tickets will go on
sale- I think they're on sale now. -
11:10 - 11:12LAURA: Right now.
-
11:12 - 11:15TRAVIS: Right now, so if you want to like,
silently on your phone or just ignore it because -
11:15 - 11:18it's a much bigger venue, so tickets should be
available, but we're all going to be in -
11:18 - 11:23Indianapolis on Saturday night and GenCon to roll
some dice with you bitches live. -
11:23 - 11:28(cheering)
-
11:28 - 11:32MATT: Hell yeah. So if this wasn't nerve-wracking
enough for me, we have another one in a -
11:32 - 11:34couple of weeks.
-
11:34 - 11:36TRAVIS: Pressure's on, dude, pressure's on!
-
11:36 - 11:40MATT: But I'm super stoked, it's going to be my
first time at GenCon, I've been wanting to go for -
11:40 - 11:46many years and this is a nice way to go, I guess.
So. Check it out. Hopefully we'll see you guys -
11:46 - 11:51there. That brings us to the end of our
announcements and will bring us down-- -
11:51 - 11:56LAURA: Wait. Before we go into not-regular
announcements, should we make sure that people -
11:56 - 11:58know that we're not having an episode next week
because of Comic-Con? -
11:58 - 11:59MATT: That's true, actually, yeah.
-
11:59 - 12:01SAM: Way to bring down the room.
-
12:01 - 12:03LAURA: I'm sorry, guys.
-
12:03 - 12:08MATT: Because all the company, everyone's going to
be at Comic-Con doing panels and scheduling and -
12:08 - 12:12stuff, there will be no episode next week, but I
promise that we'll make the episode the week after -
12:12 - 12:14that extra cool.
-
12:14 - 12:17(cheering)
-
12:17 - 12:25MATT: I hope. So yeah, let's go ahead and dive
into tonight's episode of Critical Role. -
12:25 - 13:56[dramatic music]
-
13:56 - 13:57SAM: We're on!
-
13:57 - 14:10(cheering)
-
14:10 - 14:15MATT: All right, all right, we've got to do a
story here! It's appreciated, but-- -
14:15 - 14:17SAM: We should probably just finish.
-
14:17 - 14:28MATT: All right, so, bringing us in now, back to
tonight's episode of Critical Role. Guys, pay -
14:28 - 14:30attention.
-
14:30 - 14:32LIAM: Illithid syphilis.
-
14:32 - 14:34MATT: The camera's already on.
-
14:34 - 14:35LIAM: Yeah. Okay.
-
14:35 - 14:40MATT: So. Our intrepid band of adventurers, Vox
Machina, found themselves recently traversing the -
14:40 - 14:45Feywild in search of another Vestige of
Divergence. In doing so, they managed to find an -
14:45 - 14:51old friend in the nymph Nahla, acquired some
information, trading a book, and found their way -
14:51 - 14:55towards the ever-shifting grasses northward in
search of where the Divergence, the object of the -
14:55 - 15:02Divergence lies. In doing so, they found a new
ally, a new friend. A little satyr by the name of, -
15:02 - 15:04where is it here--
-
15:04 - 15:05ALL: Garmelie.
-
15:05 - 15:11MATT: Garmelie, thank you. Now Garmelie, who had
made some really interesting sketches of the party -
15:11 - 15:18upon being caught was then dragged into Scanlan's
magnificent mansion, at which Pike asked him to -
15:18 - 15:23make a fantastic mural for the interior of that
place, which I think still resides there to this -
15:23 - 15:31day. And on the internet, as we've discovered.
Upon traveling further north, hopefully to find -
15:31 - 15:38their final destination in the form of the
Shademirk Bog, where the Fenthras bow seemingly -
15:38 - 15:47exists, you instead came upon Syngorn, the city
from the youthful days of Vex and Vax. Upon -
15:47 - 15:52speaking to the head-- pardon me; you see, all the
nerves gets the belching out. It works out well. -
15:52 - 15:59Upon encountering Watcher Iova watching the gate,
recognizing the twins, let them within the actual -
15:59 - 16:06city of Syngorn. And that is where we left off.
So, as you guys walk through the beautiful verdant -
16:06 - 16:12city, tall seemingly endless trees around you,
many buildings naturally formed and built from -
16:12 - 16:22smoothly carved stone, various ancient sigils
carved throughout the entire cityscape, the very -
16:22 - 16:28heavy-armored Verdant Guard gathered in places,
and a general air of intensity and building -
16:28 - 16:34military might within the city of Syngorn, you
have your invisible companion Garmelie, who at -
16:34 - 16:39some point in the near future agreed to tell you
what it is he wishes you to steal for him as part -
16:39 - 16:43of the deal that was made by the twins. So. What
would you like to do? -
16:43 - 16:46LIAM: I feel like I should be very stern right
now, but I can't stop smiling. -
16:46 - 16:51TRAVIS: You're gloomy. Lock it up, here we go.
-
16:51 - 16:54LAURA: I feel like the first thing we need to do
is go see our father. -
16:54 - 16:57LIAM: Right off the bat?
-
16:57 - 17:00LAURA: He's the one that's going to give us access
to the rest of the city. -
17:00 - 17:05LIAM: All right. Is Iova still here, or has she
trundled off? -
17:05 - 17:09MATT: She's walked off. She literally let you guys
in the city and went, do what you've got to do, -
17:09 - 17:11and then turned away and the rest of the guards--
-
17:11 - 17:13LAURA: Oh seriously, so like... no, no the guard
is following us. -
17:13 - 17:16LIAM: And we remember where we're going, right,
because it's all the same as it was. -
17:16 - 17:18MATT: The city is the same as it was.
-
17:18 - 17:22LIAM: Well, I imagine we'd go to his home. Our
home. His home. -
17:22 - 17:24LAURA: What time is it? I mean, we don't know what
time it is. -
17:24 - 17:26TALIESIN: It's dusk.
-
17:26 - 17:27LAURA: Thank you, Percy.
-
17:27 - 17:29SAM: But we just woke up.
-
17:29 - 17:30LAURA: All right. Okay.
-
17:30 - 17:32LIAM: Look at all those elves.
-
17:32 - 17:34LAURA: So many elves.
-
17:34 - 17:37TRAVIS: Is the little satyr-- is he holding onto
my skirts, basically? -
17:37 - 17:43MATT: You actually don't feel a general presence,
and then as you move you feel a -
17:43 - 17:44slight tug at your belt.
-
17:44 - 17:48TRAVIS: Right, so can I like, how far away is that
guard that's on our tail? -
17:48 - 17:51MATT: About 15, 20 feet back.
-
17:51 - 17:57TRAVIS: Oh yeah. Can I like super slyly whisper,
okay, so at any point are you going to tell us -
17:57 - 18:00what it is you want us to fucking steal?
-
18:00 - 18:07MATT: You hear a whispered voice that curls up by
your ear, strangely given the fact that he's so -
18:07 - 18:12small, so the voice is being thrown right into the
side of your eardrum, goes, "Just be quiet! Find a -
18:12 - 18:18"place in which we can speak privately, and then I
will be happy to tell you. Shh! Stop talking to -
18:18 - 18:19"the air; it upsets them."
-
18:19 - 18:22TRAVIS: It's really quite normal for me.
-
18:22 - 18:29LAURA: Hey, Grog. You should really watch that gas
of yours with him back there. -
18:29 - 18:34TRAVIS: Oh, you're so right. Hey, pull my finger.
(fart sound) -
18:34 - 18:37MATT: (coughs)
-
18:37 - 18:46TRAVIS: Yeah. That's the family reserve. Oh, he
said we're supposed to find somewhere -
18:46 - 18:48quiet to talk.
-
18:48 - 18:51LIAM: Maybe we should do that first, actually.
-
18:51 - 18:55LAURA: We have guards fucking following us. We have
to go find our father. -
18:55 - 19:00TALIESIN: We also don't know where we're sleeping
tonight, or whether or not it's even permissible. -
19:00 - 19:04We should probably have a conversation with
whoever's in charge. Is your father in charge? -
19:04 - 19:05LIAM: No.
-
19:05 - 19:06LAURA: Ish.
-
19:06 - 19:07TALIESIN: Ish.
-
19:07 - 19:08LIAM: He's a bureaucrat.
-
19:08 - 19:09TALIESIN: Excellent.
-
19:09 - 19:12(laughter)
-
19:12 - 19:20LIAM: All right, let's go see Dad, then.
-
19:20 - 19:22MARISHA: (whispers) Grog.
-
19:22 - 19:23TRAVIS: What?
-
19:23 - 19:26MARISHA: (whispers) Your pants, they're sagging a
little bit, why? -
19:26 - 19:27TRAVIS: What?
-
19:27 - 19:28MARISHA: (whispers) They're sagging.
-
19:28 - 19:34TRAVIS: Oh, it's like the new rage amongst the
kids. It gives me super street cred. -
19:34 - 19:36MARISHA: Where's Garmelie?
-
19:36 - 19:39LAURA: Keyleth, shut up about Garmelie!
-
19:39 - 19:46TRAVIS: Yeah, ix-nay on the Garmelie-- I think I'm
doing Pig Latin wrong. Yeah. -
19:46 - 19:50LIAM: It's this way. And I start walking off
towards Dad's house. -
19:50 - 19:51TALIESIN: I'm going to follow the twins.
-
19:51 - 19:53SAM: Sounds good.
-
19:53 - 20:00MARISHA: I look regal and as we pass elves I say,
good day. -
20:00 - 20:07MATT: The few that look in your direction,
Keyleth, take a moment to nod, look you over and -
20:07 - 20:14then continue walking, seemingly perturbed by the
sudden interaction and the immediate realization -
20:14 - 20:16that you're not of full blood.
-
20:16 - 20:18LAURA: Yeah, sorry Keyleth, your ears aren't large
enough. -
20:18 - 20:23MARISHA: That's not normally what people tell me.
-
20:23 - 20:25SAM: It's not the size of your ears...
-
20:25 - 20:27MARISHA: That's right.
-
20:27 - 20:35MATT: So. As you guys continue following Vax'ildan
towards the abode of their father, you keep an eye -
20:35 - 20:41out towards the rest of Syngorn proper. You see
the further into the city you go, interspersed with -
20:41 - 20:48a few Emon guards, you see a handful of
individuals that are human, and they're dressed in -
20:48 - 20:53the actual attire of the guards of Emon, and
they're intermingling right now with the Verdant -
20:53 - 20:56Guard, the military might within Syngorn.
-
20:56 - 21:01MARISHA: What were the name of the guards in Emon?
Did they have a name? -
21:01 - 21:03MATT: The Emon guard.
-
21:03 - 21:04MARISHA: Yeah, totally.
-
21:04 - 21:09MATT: There is a name, and it's somewhere in my
notes but we're good. -
21:09 - 21:16TALIESIN: From this perspective, I can see your
panic folder. It's so exciting. That's where the -
21:16 - 21:17magic happens.
-
21:17 - 21:19MARISHA: Yeah, that's true, we never really see
that! -
21:19 - 21:20TALIESIN: This is exciting for us.
-
21:20 - 21:28(laughter)
-
21:28 - 21:35MATT: So. You guys continue making your way
towards the abode. After traversing on the -
21:35 - 21:44outskirts of what would be the tangleward side of
the city, the eastern side, you travel in through -
21:44 - 21:50an area of buildings that are very beautifully
crafted, many of which seem to have stemmed from -
21:50 - 21:53some sort of a tree growth, but upon closer look
you can see that it's actually carved stone to -
21:53 - 22:00resemble a tree. And then it eventually rises up
into a somewhat spherical building, and there are -
22:00 - 22:05many that build off of that to create this kind of
neighborhood of various elven abodes within -
22:05 - 22:06Syngorn.
-
22:06 - 22:08LIAM: Fucking hate this place.
-
22:08 - 22:09LAURA: Me, too. It's hideous.
-
22:09 - 22:15MARISHA: This is gorgeous. Look at the
craftsmanship. It's incredible. -
22:15 - 22:17SAM: Good day.
-
22:17 - 22:18MARISHA: Good day.
-
22:18 - 22:24MATT: You make your way towards the end of this
particular-- -
22:24 - 22:28(laughter)
-
22:28 - 22:35MATT: The guards still keeping track behind you.
You find your way to the end of the main road, and -
22:35 - 22:39it splits into two smaller avenues. You know to
take the left that leads deeper into the more -
22:39 - 22:45political family houses of Syngorn. While your
family is not a political house per se, your -
22:45 - 22:52father, as an ambassador to Emon, was given a home
in this location. It is your old home, although it -
22:52 - 22:57appears to have been even further renovated and is
much nicer than you remember, but the door is -
22:57 - 23:04closed and the dusk sun leads you to pause as you
look upon the outside of this abode you have not -
23:04 - 23:06seen in many, many years.
-
23:06 - 23:10SAM: Do you want me to burn it down?
-
23:10 - 23:12LAURA: Yes.
-
23:12 - 23:18TRAVIS: No, just seriously, you seem super gloomy.
Are we getting in a fight? -
23:18 - 23:20LAURA: No. No fights.
-
23:20 - 23:27MATT: The guards now step up and flank a little
bit, keeping a close eye as you've now approached and -
23:27 - 23:33effectively knocked on the handle of a relatively
middle-to-high-ranking individual within Syngorean -
23:33 - 23:40society. Eventually the door opens and you see a
woman standing there: bright blonde hair, braided -
23:40 - 23:48and tied up in the back. She's wearing more of a
work-gown for the day. You recognize her as -
23:48 - 23:54Devana, the new wife of Syldor, the one that you
had once met before in Emon when you guys came -
23:54 - 23:59upon your father last time. As the door opens up,
she looks out for a second, taking in the whole -
23:59 - 24:09group that has gathered on the outside of their
home and goes, "My god. Vax'ildan, Vex'ahlia, we -
24:09 - 24:10"weren't expecting you!"
-
24:10 - 24:15LAURA: No. I can't imagine you were. Is he here?
-
24:15 - 24:17MATT: "He is."
-
24:17 - 24:20LAURA: What time is it?
-
24:20 - 24:27MATT: She glances out, looks up. "That's always a
good question. The longer we stay in these realms, -
24:27 - 24:30"the more confused my daughter becomes."
-
24:30 - 24:32LIAM: How long has that been?
-
24:32 - 24:36MATT: "Weeks now, I assume. Best that our
timepieces can keep." -
24:36 - 24:39LAURA: Is Velora around?
-
24:39 - 24:41MATT: "She is, would you like to see her?"
-
24:41 - 24:42LAURA: Of course.
-
24:42 - 24:44MATT: "Come in. Is it just you two?"
-
24:44 - 24:46LAURA and LIAM: No.
-
24:46 - 24:48LAURA: It's everyone.
-
24:48 - 24:49TRAVIS: Hi.
-
24:49 - 24:52LAURA: And Trinket, you remember Trinket.
-
24:52 - 24:59MATT: (bear noises) Nudges your arm to the side
and comes forward and sniffs out to Devana. She -
24:59 - 25:02shrinks back a little bit and reaches her hand out
to the nose and taps the edge of Trinket's face, -
25:02 - 25:06and Trinket licks her fingers.
-
25:06 - 25:07MARISHA: Good day.
-
25:07 - 25:08SAM: Good day.
-
25:08 - 25:11MARISHA: Good day. They respond better if you say
"good day" and if you have your head up. -
25:11 - 25:13TRAVIS: If we say "bidet?"
-
25:13 - 25:16MARISHA: Bidet, yes. Good day.
-
25:16 - 25:17TRAVIS: Bidet.
-
25:17 - 25:22TALIESIN: So close. So very close.
-
25:22 - 25:25MATT: The two guards closest to you, within their
helmets their eyes narrow, they look at each other -
25:25 - 25:26and shake their heads.
-
25:26 - 25:28TRAVIS: Oh, bidet.
-
25:28 - 25:32LIAM: Your accent is perfect. Don't change a
thing. -
25:32 - 25:40MATT: Devana goes, "Very well. If you would all
proceed to be quiet if you could, Syldor is -
25:40 - 25:45"working. And you may stay outside," she says to
the guards. -
25:45 - 25:49And they both, "We were given orders, milady,
to--" -
25:49 - 25:53"I understand that. But this is already a lot of
people in our home. Stay close within earshot, -
25:53 - 25:59"it'll be fine. I trust them." The guards, (sighs)
-
25:59 - 26:01LAURA: I wink at them as I walk inside.
-
26:01 - 26:09MATT: No reaction whatsoever. You guys make your
way into the home and are immediately caught with -
26:09 - 26:15a very strong smell of cedar. It's a very
pleasant-smelling home, and the hearth is warm. -
26:15 - 26:23It's everything you wanted your home to be, and it
immediately hits you to walk in here and see this -
26:23 - 26:28kind of life away from a life, seeing elements of
it that remind you of your childhood, things about -
26:28 - 26:33it that flag memories to your head of good times
and bad, in just a few mere moments. And at that -
26:33 - 26:40same time, there's a sadness because so much of it
has changed, so much of it seems better than the -
26:40 - 26:48memory. And for a moment there, you feel a little
tinge of wondering how different it might've been. -
26:48 - 26:52At which point that thought process is broken as
Devana steps in and goes, -
26:52 - 26:55"Would anyone like tea, perhaps?"
-
26:55 - 26:58SAM: Sure, yes, do you have an oolong?
-
26:58 - 27:01MARISHA: Maybe a chamomile, it would be great.
-
27:01 - 27:07MATT: "Something like that, yes. It's been a
little scarce in the Feywilds. More difficult to -
27:07 - 27:08"farm herbs here than you'd think."
-
27:08 - 27:13MARISHA: Oh, here. I pull out some herbs that I
brought from my garden. -
27:13 - 27:16Some glisfoil and other things.
-
27:16 - 27:19MATT: "Thank you. Appreciate that."
-
27:19 - 27:23MARISHA: They won't scream at you when you pick
them. Good. It's good. -
27:23 - 27:30MATT: "Thank you. What was your name again?"
-
27:30 - 27:32MARISHA: Oh, I'm Keyleth of the Ashari.
-
27:32 - 27:35MATT: "A pleasure to meet you again--"
-
27:35 - 27:36MARISHA: Good day.
-
27:36 - 27:41MATT: "That's, that's really not necessary in my
home. You, sir, your name?" -
27:41 - 27:44TALIESIN: Whatever's available would be just
fine. -
27:44 - 27:46SAM and MARISHA: I think she means your name.
-
27:46 - 27:48MATT: "That's a curious title."
-
27:48 - 27:50MARISHA: But you can call him whatever's
available, as well. -
27:50 - 27:54MATT: "Very well, coffee table. What's your
name?" -
27:54 - 27:55(laughter)
-
27:55 - 27:58LIAM: It's easier than the actual name.
-
27:58 - 28:03TALIESIN: For you, it is just Percival, and I am
another visiting royal from man's world. -
28:03 - 28:05MATT: "All right. You, sir?"
-
28:05 - 28:20SAM: I am called the Kingslayer, Chuck Norris,
Burt Reynolds. I have many names. You see, when -
28:20 - 28:22you've traveled a road as long as I have--
-
28:22 - 28:27MATT: "Black tea, got it. And you, sir, the large
one?" -
28:27 - 28:31TRAVIS: Oh, yeah. Bidet. The name is Grog.
-
28:31 - 28:38MATT: "Very well. I'll return with Syldor once he
knows you're here. It may be a while if you don't -
28:38 - 28:41"mind waiting, but the tea will come out
posthaste." -
28:41 - 28:43LAURA: And Velora? Where's she?
-
28:43 - 28:48MATT: "Let me get her for you, she'll be very like
to see both of you, she asks from time to time." -
28:48 - 28:52She brushes a little lock of hair that's fallen in
front of her face behind her ear, and smiles and -
28:52 - 28:58darts off towards the kitchen. A few moments pass with
you guys sitting in awkward silence, looking about -
28:58 - 29:04the space in the vicinity. Looks to the twins.
Eventually Devana comes out and sets tea for all -
29:04 - 29:09of you across the central table in this meeting
area, and behind her you see, clutching the edge -
29:09 - 29:17of the skirt, you see this tiny, long brown hair
that is braided, but the braid's coming undone, -
29:17 - 29:24tomboyish looking elven girl that peeks around the
side of her dress and hides -
29:24 - 29:27again behind the back.
-
29:27 - 29:29[high-pitched noise]
-
29:29 - 29:31MATT: Welcome back, sorry about that.
-
29:31 - 29:34(cheering)
-
29:34 - 29:35SAM: What a battle!
-
29:35 - 29:40MATT: The technical aspects. We're working through
it, but we got through it, thank you for your -
29:40 - 29:47patience. So the last few minutes, we're not quite
sure how much you guys may have missed, but the -
29:47 - 29:52party wiped. We're rolling up new characters. No,
for the Monday episode we'll go ahead and make -
29:52 - 29:55sure to splice in anything that may have been
missed for the past minute. But the party had come -
29:55 - 30:02to the home of Syldor, the father of Vax and Vex.
They had a brief discussion with Devana, his new -
30:02 - 30:07wife. They were given tea after introductions and
then briefly discussed the merits of being a -
30:07 - 30:16warrior with their half-sister Velora Vessar, and
upon discussing apparently a war of some kind, -
30:16 - 30:22Syldor made his way into the room, and you look
and you see the long dark hair of Syldor, his pale -
30:22 - 30:28complexion, his stern face, staring back at you
all from within the doorway as he closes it behind -
30:28 - 30:32him and steps into the room. You see Devana sits
up now and comes over to him and says, -
30:32 - 30:36"My dear, would you like us to leave you alone?"
-
30:36 - 30:42He goes, "Don't worry, it will be fine. Have a
seat. Besides, we're all family. -
30:42 - 30:45"Well, some of us, at least."
And he looks over to Grog. -
30:45 - 30:47TRAVIS: Bidet.
-
30:47 - 30:49(laughter)
-
30:49 - 30:57MATT: "Good day, indeed." He comes up and sits,
and he's wearing long, dark brown robes with -
30:57 - 31:05golden and red embroidery on the side, but it's
very casual home wear, and he sits down, pulling -
31:05 - 31:10up a chair across from you guys in this area, and
takes one of the cups of tea and sips it. And you -
31:10 - 31:16can see there's an intensity to his face. He's
here, and he looks like he's partially -
31:16 - 31:22inconvenienced by your presence like he always
did, but he also looks like he hasn't slept well, -
31:22 - 31:29there's some dark circles under his eyes and he
seems a little distracted for such a climactic -
31:29 - 31:31re-meeting.
-
31:31 - 31:32LAURA: Surprise!
-
31:32 - 31:42MATT: "Surprise, indeed. So. It's good to see you
both. Glad you're in good health. You've come -
31:42 - 31:48"quite a ways to come speak with me, being as we
currently reside within the Feywild." -
31:48 - 31:55LIAM: It's a little bit further than we thought
we'd have to travel, why... the presence around -
31:55 - 32:01the city we're seeing? We understand why you fled,
but what's going on? -
32:01 - 32:13MATT: "Look. We had the entire Fort Daxio army
down here and we were to give aid to push into the -
32:13 - 32:17"nearby mountain range where apparently there was
an influx of lizardfolk, had been a continuous -
32:17 - 32:25"problem, and apparently a break had been seen
somewhere. However, we had sent most of our forces -
32:25 - 32:31"into the mountain range and then received word
that three great drakes were making their way -
32:31 - 32:38"straight toward Syngorn after the destruction of
Emon. Knowing that, we had no recourse but to flee -
32:38 - 32:44"and prepare when it was time. Had we stood our
ground, we would be the same burning crater that -
32:44 - 32:45"your fair city is now."
-
32:45 - 32:51LAURA: So you intend to go back? You're amassing
this army to go back and join the fight. -
32:51 - 32:57MATT: "That is exactly what we're doing. The
remnants of the Emon army we currently have here -
32:57 - 33:02"in the city, we've been building armor and weapons
to make sure the most sure-footed and -
33:02 - 33:06"strong-of-arm men and women of our fair city can
make it to that battlefield -
33:06 - 33:08"and tear that beast down."
-
33:08 - 33:11LAURA: That's wonderful news.
-
33:11 - 33:15MATT: "Good. Why are you here?"
-
33:15 - 33:21TALIESIN: We are here on a very similar range of
business, to be honest. -
33:21 - 33:22MATT: "And you are?"
-
33:22 - 33:30TALIESIN: Ah, yes. Percival Fredrickstein von
Mussel Klossowski de Rolo III of the royal house -
33:30 - 33:37of Whitestone, representative of man's world, here
on very important business dealing with dragons. -
33:37 - 33:49We are looking for some objects: a few things that
may help us in our fight against these dragons -
33:49 - 33:53that have attacked us. We've already made headway
against them, and we've already made headway on -
33:53 - 34:00our quest to destroy them. Any help that your
wonderful city could provide would be most -
34:00 - 34:02agreeable.
-
34:02 - 34:12MATT: "Well. We currently have all of our
resources engaged in our plans of attack. There is -
34:12 - 34:17"not much we could offer you other than, if you
wish to stay here within the city, we could -
34:17 - 34:23"provide a place to sleep, food, and when the time
is right you may join our ranks into the fray." -
34:23 - 34:25LIAM: We've come to the Feywild for something
specific. -
34:25 - 34:29MARISHA: We're trying to head to the Shademirk
Bog. -
34:29 - 34:33MATT: "Why on earth would you be heading to the
Shademirk?" -
34:33 - 34:41MARISHA: We're looking for the bow of Fenthras. It
supposedly lives inside of a cancerous tree. -
34:41 - 34:49MATT: "Right. Well. Good luck with that."
-
34:49 - 34:52LAURA: Do you think it's possible?
-
34:52 - 35:02MATT: "I think it's a fool's errand to chase a
fleeting rumor into a location that is known to -
35:02 - 35:09"devour and destroy anyone who steps within its
bounds. But by all means, you've always been ones -
35:09 - 35:12"seeking the darkness."
-
35:12 - 35:16LIAM: He and I are wearing fleeting rumors. That
one's got one hidden up his butt. -
35:16 - 35:26(laughter)
-
35:26 - 35:31MATT: You hear Velora chuckle. Devana's like,
"Shh! Quiet!" -
35:31 - 35:34LAURA: I want to pull Velora over and sit her in
my lap. -
35:34 - 35:38MATT: She (raspberry noise) at her mom as you pick
her up there. You can see Devana smiles as she -
35:38 - 35:40does so.
-
35:40 - 35:49LIAM: Syldor, we have killed two of these dragons
already. Nothing could please me more to hear that -
35:49 - 35:55you are amassing forces here to go back; that is
possibly the greatest thing I've ever heard you -
35:55 - 35:57say to me.
-
35:57 - 35:59LAURA: I want to insight check him and see if he's
really saying-- -
35:59 - 36:00TRAVIS: Yeah, do that shit!
-
36:00 - 36:02MATT: Roll an insight check.
-
36:02 - 36:07LIAM: Him or me?
-
36:07 - 36:10LAURA: 26 on him!
-
36:10 - 36:19MATT: All right. I'd whisper, but the microphone
makes it useless. It's fine. He appears tired, he -
36:19 - 36:24appears like a lot of his intention and time has
been put towards something important-- -
36:24 - 36:25LAURA: Being a giant dick?
-
36:25 - 36:34MATT: Possibly. But he doesn't appear to be lying
or fudging the truth at all, he's just tired. He -
36:34 - 36:43says, "Look. There are a lot of pieces at work
here. If you have your own path, by all means. And -
36:43 - 36:51"while I have heard of some of your exploits, and I
am quite impressed, I hate to be blunt, but it's -
36:51 - 37:02"difficult and strange to mingle family new and
old. Your presence here brings up difficult -
37:02 - 37:04"memories for me."
-
37:04 - 37:07LAURA: Oh, you poor man.
-
37:07 - 37:15LIAM: Don't worry. We're not here to look for
family. That would entail some amount of -
37:15 - 37:23investment on either our side or yours. There is
clearly none. We are here to do business. Do you -
37:23 - 37:25know where the bog is?
-
37:25 - 37:30MATT: "Yes. It's duskward of here."
-
37:30 - 37:32SAM: Duskward.
-
37:32 - 37:36TRAVIS: Fucking shit.
-
37:36 - 37:42LIAM: Well, some people go this way, and some
people go that way, and some people go both ways. -
37:42 - 37:45MARISHA: It's like being on a ship forever.
-
37:45 - 37:52MATT: "I have not traversed this land extensively.
I've been here working along with the heads of the -
37:52 - 37:54"city to make sure we are ready for this attack."
-
37:54 - 37:56LAURA: When do you plan to attack?
-
37:56 - 37:58MATT: "A few weeks."
-
37:58 - 38:04LAURA: You're joining other armies. You don't plan
to fight Thordak on your own? -
38:04 - 38:11MATT: "Well. There is an attempt to join up with
the remnants of the Fort Daxio force. They have -
38:11 - 38:18"not gone to Emon themselves and they currently
reside camped out near where Syngorn usually is. -
38:18 - 38:25"We have a few groups that are set on the other
side of the veil in the prime realm and they are -
38:25 - 38:29"keeping an eye out for this. A few scouting
parties are in Emon as we speak, trying to gather -
38:29 - 38:34"intel on Thordak himself. Once we have that
information and we can formulate what to expect, -
38:34 - 38:36"then we can attack."
-
38:36 - 38:42MARISHA: So you're trying to go after Thordak
himself. That's your first target, Thordak? -
38:42 - 38:50MATT: "He's currently the largest threat to our
safety, our home, and our return. Don't think this -
38:50 - 38:56"is the first time a red dragon of that size has
been felled. There have been ancient ages of -
38:56 - 39:02"various deaths from his people. It's not
impossible, but we need to be ready." -
39:02 - 39:06TRAVIS: Just a heads-up, pro tip: dragons can
fly. -
39:06 - 39:17(laughter)
-
39:17 - 39:20MATT: "And I take it you're their leader."
-
39:20 - 39:21TRAVIS: Of the dragons?
-
39:21 - 39:23(laughter)
-
39:24 - 39:28MATT: He very slowly sighs while grabbing his
tea. -
39:28 - 39:34TRAVIS: I've clearly lost your father. It's all
right. -
39:34 - 39:37LAURA: His intelligence is very low, Grog.
-
39:37 - 39:44TALIESIN: In the interest of dealing with Thordak,
we are going to need access to libraries, any of -
39:44 - 39:51your people who may know something about this bog,
and accommodations befitting those of us who are -
39:51 - 39:52titled.
-
39:52 - 39:56SAM: As well as access to certain parts of the
city. We need some items to acquire within the -
39:56 - 39:58city before we set out.
-
39:58 - 40:02MARISHA: Also, it would be nice to find shelter
for those of us who are not titled. -
40:02 - 40:05SAM: And I had asked for an oolong tea.
-
40:05 - 40:11(laughter)
-
40:11 - 40:15SAM: This is more of an assam, I would say? A
black tea. -
40:15 - 40:17TALIESIN: This is technically what you do, though,
isn't it? -
40:17 - 40:19MATT: Devana says, "I'm terribly sorry, I didn't
mean that--" -
40:19 - 40:21MARISHA: No, not you.
-
40:21 - 40:34MATT: Syldor crosses his fingers together and, "I
can give you a letter that will grant you entry to -
40:34 - 40:43"a few of our general storehouses. However, most of
you are outsiders and others have been ostracized -
40:43 - 40:44"in their own right."
-
40:44 - 40:52TALIESIN: But you will respect titled entry. Those
of us who are court can converse with court. -
40:52 - 40:58MATT: "Your title, your court, is unfamiliar with
me. I doubt it will hold sway within this town, -
40:58 - 41:05"this city, this entire realm. But you speak of
great importance, are you the leader of this -
41:05 - 41:10"troop, he who brings up words of courts and
titles?" -
41:10 - 41:18TALIESIN: For the moment, why not? I will say, I
know the Feywild by reputation, and by reputation -
41:18 - 41:25you are known for your manners, and any kingdom
should be measured by manners as the currency that -
41:25 - 41:27is the easiest to come across.
-
41:27 - 41:34MATT: "Manners, by the way, are extremely
effective in times of peace. This is not one of -
41:34 - 41:40"those times. However, I appreciate that you at
least acknowledge the way things sometimes work. -
41:40 - 41:49"So. Daughter. Son. What else do you need of me?"
-
41:49 - 41:56LIAM: Honestly? Nothing.
-
41:56 - 41:59LAURA: We don't need or want anything from you.
-
41:59 - 42:02MATT: "Yet you still came to my home."
-
42:02 - 42:11LAURA: Oh, well. Yeah. We got what we wanted,
which is access to the city. -
42:11 - 42:16LIAM: We're not here to be friends or rekindle
anything, but it seems like we want the same -
42:16 - 42:27thing, in a roundabout way. We want to end these
dragons. We want to return the world to what it -
42:27 - 42:38once was. Any help you can give in spite of our
past, in spite of all the bullshit between us will -
42:38 - 42:42be appreciated by more than just she and I.
-
42:42 - 42:53LAURA: We know you have no love for us. Think of
those you do love. And I hug Velora. Don't you -
42:53 - 42:55want to make her safe?
-
42:55 - 43:08MATT: "That's exactly what I intend to do. If you
wish to help in that, then so be it. I'll pull -
43:08 - 43:19"what I can within the city. (sighs) Just leave me
to my business, please." You see for a moment -
43:19 - 43:25there, for all the facade, all the front that he
puts up, that strong distance facade, you see the -
43:25 - 43:39fatigue break through, and there's a, like a dark
heartbreak. "This is a greater threat than we've -
43:39 - 43:48"ever faced in our lifetime, and many of those in
this city have lived quite a while. We have to do -
43:48 - 43:56"things right. Don't be foolish. Too many lives
have been lost at the hands of these dragons, some -
43:56 - 43:58"closer than others."
-
43:58 - 44:04LAURA: Do you know of anyone that has traversed
more of the Feywild, that would know of what we -
44:04 - 44:06might expect?
-
44:06 - 44:17MATT: "One who's seen the most would be the High
Warden. I could probably get you passage to see -
44:17 - 44:27"her, but you're going to be heavily guarded."
You guys do know the High Warden, Tyrelda is her -
44:27 - 44:35name, and she is actually of the bloodline of
Gynlara who founded Syngorn centuries ago. She -
44:35 - 44:43currently is essentially the de facto leader,
though in terms of public, she is the final -
44:43 - 44:52decision-maker on most of Syngorn's political and
social endeavors. "Will that suffice?" -
44:52 - 44:55LIAM: It will.
-
44:55 - 44:57LAURA: It will.
-
44:57 - 44:59SAM: Good day.
-
44:59 - 45:00MARISHA: Good day.
-
45:00 - 45:03(laughter)
-
45:03 - 45:09MATT: "Curious manners, your friends." He takes
his tea and pours another cupful, and leans back -
45:09 - 45:13in his chair. "Two dragons you say you've
killed." -
45:13 - 45:15LIAM: That's right.
-
45:15 - 45:18LAURA: More than that, isn't it?
-
45:18 - 45:19TRAVIS: Of the Conclave.
-
45:19 - 45:21LAURA: Of the Conclave, we've killed two.
-
45:21 - 45:23MATT: "Which ones?"
-
45:23 - 45:31LAURA: Umbrasyl. And. What was the other one?
-
45:31 - 45:32LIAM: Blitzen?
-
45:32 - 45:39LAURA: Blitzen, Donner? What was the name of the
other one? Oh, it was General Krieg! -
45:39 - 45:41MARISHA: Yeah, that one.
-
45:41 - 45:42LAURA: The blue one.
-
45:42 - 45:44MARISHA: And then we've also killed a white one.
-
45:44 - 45:47SAM: We thought so little of him we didn't even
remember his name. -
45:47 - 45:52(laughter)
-
45:52 - 45:54LIAM: Brimscythe?
-
45:54 - 45:56MARISHA: Brimscythe. That's the one.
-
45:56 - 45:58SAM: But also we respect him enough to learn his
name. -
45:58 - 46:13MATT: "Well, your story has charm. I have to
admit, I have gotten word of at least one dragon -
46:13 - 46:15"felled on the other side."
-
46:15 - 46:23MARISHA: I pull out a dragon's tooth from Umbrasyl
out of my pocket and I toss it to him. That's the -
46:23 - 46:28result of the doings of your children. You should
be very proud. -
46:28 - 46:48MATT: "I am proud. I. Am proud. But the city lives
differently. Understand the difficulty that your -
46:48 - 46:59"presence puts upon our family with you being here.
I mean no disrespect, and it's fine in this trying -
46:59 - 47:09"time. But while you two may have undergone much
ridicule in your youth, I saved you from the brunt -
47:09 - 47:11"of it."
-
47:11 - 47:22LAURA: You-- headphones, dear-- you fucked some
random woman in a city you passed through, and you -
47:22 - 47:25expect us to feel sorry for you?
-
47:25 - 47:28LIAM: You should've left us to be with our mother
when she died! -
47:28 - 47:37LAURA: Why? Why pull us away from her if you had
no love? We would have been happy with her. -
47:37 - 47:46MATT: "Because I had hope that you would be worth
more, given that you had my blood in your veins, -
47:46 - 47:49"than to waste away in some small hovel."
-
47:49 - 47:56LAURA: If I could pull the blood of you from my
veins and give it back, I would. -
47:56 - 47:59I want no part of you.
-
47:59 - 48:04MATT: "There are many things we wish for but we
have no choice but to take what we are given and -
48:04 - 48:17"make the best with what we have. Even with this
rift, there is still a part of me that cares for -
48:17 - 48:25"you both and is genuinely happy that you live. And
that you rise. And that you prove what the rest of -
48:25 - 48:36"these fools in this city said you were incapable
of. Yes, I am prejudiced. But I still fight it -
48:36 - 48:52"every day. And I'm not going to lie, every time
that my daughter, your half-sister, laughs and -
48:52 - 49:06"plays stealthy Vax and Vex on her own, it makes me
smile. You inspire those outside of our city walls -
49:06 - 49:15"with your doings. I think that's rather large of
you. As foolish and as damned deadly as some of -
49:15 - 49:32"these endeavors may be, you inspire. That's more
than I've done in my lifetime. So. Care not what I -
49:32 - 49:43"think. Care not how your mother died. Just avenge
it. For both of us. Show your little sister that -
49:43 - 49:56"you can rise up and destroy whatever comes in your
way. Hate me all you want. It's only half-scorn -
49:56 - 50:06"from me. I live with my regrets. I tried to bring
you up right. But that upbringing was not -
50:06 - 50:14"right for you. And by the time I tried to return
you, it was too late. -
50:14 - 50:23"I'm sorry. That's all I can say."
-
50:23 - 50:30Devana goes, "Anyone want any more tea? Oolong,
you said." -
50:30 - 50:31SAM: You got it!
-
50:31 - 50:35MATT: "Right, yes." And she leaves, awkwardly.
-
50:35 - 50:41TRAVIS: Just so you know, what they did against
the dragons was incredible. All of the rest of us -
50:41 - 50:46were like, "Ah! Oh, we're dying! We don't have
anything we can do!" And then they were like -
50:46 - 50:47"Kill! Stab!" And then--
-
50:47 - 50:49MARISHA: Percy! No, don't die!
-
50:49 - 50:50TALIESIN: What are you doing?
-
50:50 - 50:54MARISHA: I'm being blood out of your jugular, just
go with it. -
50:54 - 50:58TRAVIS: And then they killed them all! It's the
only reason we're alive, really. -
50:58 - 51:05SAM: It's true. Vax wanted to go inside the
dragon, I was like, no! No, let's do it! -
51:05 - 51:09(laughter)
-
51:09 - 51:14SAM: Cut his way out, went back and saved me.
Crazy. -
51:14 - 51:17MATT: "That does indeed sound quite crazy."
-
51:17 - 51:21TRAVIS: I mean, the balls on this one-- this one.
-
51:21 - 51:28MATT: "Let's be honest, Grog. They both have--"
-
51:28 - 51:33TRAVIS: Lord Grog Peanut Butter of Strongjaw. I'm
titled. -
51:33 - 51:43MATT: "I'd say they've both proven to have more
balls than most of those in our city." -
51:43 - 51:46LIAM: Look, we're never going to be a happy
family. -
51:46 - 51:48MATT: "No. That is right."
-
51:48 - 51:56LIAM: But if you want to make reparations, help us
on our path. It will only help you on yours. -
51:56 - 52:02MATT: He stands up from his chair and walks his
way back to his study and -
52:02 - 52:04closes the door behind him.
-
52:04 - 52:07LAURA: Well, fuck. Guess he's not into us now.
-
52:07 - 52:09TRAVIS: I thought we weren't getting in a fight!
-
52:09 - 52:10TALIESIN: No, this is good.
-
52:10 - 52:14SAM: Do you want me to take a dump somewhere?
-
52:14 - 52:16TALIESIN: Not yet.
-
52:16 - 52:18LAURA: Oh, headphones, darling.
-
52:18 - 52:19SAM: Oh, sorry.
-
52:19 - 52:25MATT: She pulls your hand down, looks at you,
says, "Take a dump!" -
52:25 - 52:27LAURA: Oh, shit. I mean, shoot!
-
52:27 - 52:31MATT: "I like him."
-
52:31 - 52:34SAM: That's gnomish. Doesn't mean the same thing.
-
52:34 - 52:38MATT: She's now transfixed on Scanlan.
-
52:38 - 52:44LAURA: Darling, he takes blue sparkly poos!
-
52:44 - 52:48MATT: "Blue sparkle poos? Can you teach me?"
-
52:48 - 52:53(laughter)
-
52:53 - 52:55SAM: Do you have any blueberries?
-
52:55 - 52:57MATT: "I'm going to ask my mom if we've got
blueberries." -
52:57 - 52:58TRAVIS: Holy shit.
-
52:58 - 53:05MATT: She runs off to the kitchen. A few minutes
pass, and Devana comes out holding the tea on the -
53:05 - 53:09cart and goes, "Who taught my daughter to say
'blue sparkly poo?'" -
53:09 - 53:12LAURA: I don't know what you're talking about.
-
53:12 - 53:15MARISHA: Is that a swear word?
-
53:15 - 53:20LAURA: You should really control the people in
this city from talking about that, -
53:20 - 53:21because it's weird.
-
53:21 - 53:22SAM: She got it at preschool.
-
53:22 - 53:24TALIESIN: So many soldiers everywhere.
-
53:24 - 53:25MATT: "Velora, go to your room."
-
53:25 - 53:31MARISHA: I've never heard a soldier say, "Ah, blue
sparkly poo!" I feel like she didn't get that from -
53:31 - 53:31a soldier.
-
53:31 - 53:34TALIESIN: You've never really been in war, have
you? -
53:34 - 53:39MATT: The door opens from the far study, and you
see Syldor walk back in holding what looks to be a -
53:39 - 53:48rolled-up piece of paper with a seal on it. He
heads over and tosses it onto the table. "That -
53:48 - 53:53"will grant you passage through the city. That will
grant you a single meeting with the High Warden. -
53:53 - 53:58"That's the most my power can do at this time."
-
53:58 - 54:01LAURA: This is a belt buckle, why are you passing
me this? -
54:01 - 54:02LIAM: (stage-whispering) We're playing pretend.
-
54:02 - 54:06LAURA: Okay, oh, it's a sealed scroll now.
-
54:06 - 54:15TALIESIN: May I see that really quickly? Don't
throw it! Pretend! -
54:15 - 54:17MARISHA: Pretend. I'm pretend handing it off.
-
54:17 - 54:19SAM: Ooh, good object work.
-
54:19 - 54:24LIAM: Now get in the canoe!
-
54:24 - 54:28LAURA: Yes, yes.
-
54:28 - 54:31TALIESIN: Right, they're all elves. I can't look
at them. -
54:31 - 54:33SAM: Oh, it flew away!
-
54:33 - 54:38TALIESIN: This grants an audience for all of us,
then? -
54:38 - 54:40MATT: "Yes."
-
54:40 - 54:45TALIESIN: You're going to have to amend that one
name, though, just to be fair. -
54:45 - 54:46It's Lady Vex'ahlia.
-
54:46 - 54:48MATT: "Lady?"
-
54:48 - 54:52TALIESIN: Lady Vex'ahlia, Baroness of the Third
House of Whitestone and Grand Mistress of the Grey Hunt. -
54:52 - 55:09(cheering)
-
55:09 - 55:16TALIESIN: So good sir, despite your relationship
with her, do watch your manners. -
55:16 - 55:23SAM: Tea spit take!
-
55:23 - 55:26MATT: "My apologies, Lady Vex'ahlia."
-
55:26 - 55:28LAURA: Well, you didn't know.
-
55:28 - 55:31(laughter)
-
55:31 - 55:40MATT: You can see, there's confused surprise, but
a smile does curl across the corner of his mouth. -
55:40 - 55:47"I will make the amendment immediately." And he
stands back up, takes it from Percival and makes -
55:47 - 55:48his way back to the room.
-
55:48 - 55:51LIAM: Darth Vader.
-
55:51 - 55:59MATT: He returns, hands you the amended paper.
"Good luck." -
55:59 - 56:01LAURA: This is a belt buckle-- oh.
-
56:01 - 56:03(laughter)
-
56:03 - 56:06MATT: It's a gift from your mother.
-
56:06 - 56:08TRAVIS: You should thank Percy.
-
56:08 - 56:18MATT: "If you do intend to make your way towards
the Shademirk, be careful. Be safe. And if -
56:18 - 56:24"anything comes your way that you feel you are
incapable of handling, run. We don't need heroes -
56:24 - 56:26"right now, we need survivors."
-
56:26 - 56:36TRAVIS: No promises?
-
56:36 - 56:40MATT: He shoots you a very dark look.
-
56:40 - 56:47TRAVIS: Right. Sorry. The House of Peanut Butter
will continue its bloodline. I don't know. -
56:47 - 56:58MATT: "I will send word. Where can I send word to
retrieve you when the time is ready for us to attack?" -
56:58 - 57:00SAM: Do we have accommodations in the city?
-
57:00 - 57:02LAURA: Yes, but we'll be in Whitestone.
-
57:02 - 57:09MATT: "I will send word to Whitestone when we plan
to return to the Prime Material, and preparing our -
57:09 - 57:11"forces for attack upon Thordak in Emon."
-
57:11 - 57:13MARISHA: If not, reach out to Allura of Emon.
-
57:13 - 57:17MATT: "I know Allura well, and I can reach to
her." -
57:17 - 57:18MARISHA: I had a feeling you did.
-
57:18 - 57:28(laughter)
-
57:28 - 57:31SAM: Are you hitting on their dad?
-
57:31 - 57:33MATT: "Anyway."
-
57:33 - 57:35MARISHA: Does everything look like hitting on
people to you, Scanlan? -
57:35 - 57:36SAM: It does.
-
57:36 - 57:39MATT: It's the Scanlan filter. It's on Snapchat.
-
57:39 - 57:43MARISHA: Take off the beer goggles, take them off!
Those are plus-two magical beer goggles. -
57:43 - 57:44Take them off!
-
57:44 - 57:56MATT: He stands up and at this point Devana enters
beside him, puts her hand on his shoulder. He -
57:56 - 58:03looks to you with his hands crossed before him and
goes, "I wish you luck and safe journeys. I -
58:03 - 58:06"appreciate you coming by. It was good to see you
both." -
58:06 - 58:08LIAM: Where did our sister go?
-
58:08 - 58:14MATT: Turns and Devana goes, "She's in her room
for using bad language." -
58:14 - 58:21LAURA: Poo is a really terrible word to say, I
think. Good thing she didn't say any of the other -
58:21 - 58:23words that she heard in here.
-
58:23 - 58:27MATT: "Hold on." And she leaves and comes back,
this time pushing Velora from the back, and Velora -
58:27 - 58:31walks up pouting with her arms crossed, holding
her little owlbear under her arm. -
58:31 - 58:33LIAM: Come here.
-
58:33 - 58:37MATT: She runs up and gives you a big hug. "Are
you leaving?" -
58:37 - 58:39LIAM: Yeah, just for a little bit, though.
-
58:39 - 58:40MATT: "You just got here!"
-
58:40 - 58:47LIAM: I know. Listen, do me a favor? Keep scraping
up those knees, will you? You crawl anywhere you -
58:47 - 58:55want in this city, the higher the better. And
listen to your parents some of the time. But not -
58:55 - 58:56all of the time.
-
58:56 - 58:58MATT: "I can already do that."
-
58:58 - 58:59LAURA: Oh, and!
-
58:59 - 59:05MATT: She gives you a little kiss on the cheek and
then runs up and puts her arms around you and -
59:05 - 59:08almost pushes you back, she's bigger than you
remember. -
59:08 - 59:15LAURA: She is. I pull out one of my owlbear
feathers that I picked up with Zahra and I tuck it -
59:15 - 59:17behind her ear.
-
59:17 - 59:18MATT: "What's this?"
-
59:18 - 59:22LAURA: It's an owlbear feather. I know!
-
59:22 - 59:25(laughter)
-
59:25 - 59:28MATT: She steps back down and looks at her little
plushie and-- -
59:28 - 59:33LAURA: You keep that behind your ear, and you wear
your necklace, and you never forget that Vex and -
59:33 - 59:37Vax love you very, very much, dear.
-
59:37 - 59:44LIAM: Listen to us. You are not our half-sister.
You are our sister. -
59:44 - 59:54MATT: She runs up and hugs you both, one in each
arm, and then steps back down. -
59:54 - 59:57"Thank you. Come back soon, please!"
-
59:57 - 60:01LAURA: Of course, come visit me in my baroness...
isity. -
60:01 - 60:05MATT: She runs back to her mom's side and looks at
her mom and goes, "Poo." -
60:05 - 60:13(laughter)
-
60:13 - 60:25MATT: Devana rolls her eyes and goes, "Ugh. Thank
you. So much." -
60:25 - 60:28LIAM: Shit's a good word, too.
-
60:28 - 60:31MATT: Covers her ears.
-
60:31 - 60:33TRAVIS: Are we doing that now? Penis wiggle!
-
60:33 - 60:35(laughter)
-
60:35 - 60:40MATT: You see Devana's looking cornered, it's
like, (shushing noises). Syldor actually starts -
60:40 - 60:45laughing. "I hope that's good day, then!"
-
60:45 - 60:47SAM: Good day.
-
60:47 - 60:48LAURA: Good day.
-
60:48 - 60:49TRAVIS: Bidet.
-
60:49 - 60:50MARISHA and TALIESIN: Good day.
-
60:50 - 60:54MATT: "Good day." And Syldor bows, you all slowly
leave the door, and right before the door closes -
60:54 - 60:56behind you hear a little voice go, "Shit."
-
60:56 - 60:58(laughter)
-
60:58 - 61:06MATT: "No!" The door closes.
-
61:06 - 61:10MARISHA: We're those terrible-influence side of
the family, aren't we? -
61:10 - 61:15LAURA: I run up and I give Percy the biggest hug.
Percival! -
61:15 - 61:17TALIESIN: It's the gift of smugness, it never goes
away. -
61:17 - 61:21LAURA: Wait, is it real-- no. Was it all just
to-- -
61:21 - 61:28TALIESIN: No, I actually, it occurs to me that we
did kill two of the three barons of Whitestone the -
61:28 - 61:30last time that we were there.
-
61:30 - 61:39(laughter)
-
61:39 - 61:41TALIESIN: There's no house and there's no money--
-
61:41 - 61:43MARISHA: It's the one Scanlan burned.
-
61:43 - 61:45TALIESIN: It's the one that Scanlan burned.
-
61:45 - 61:49SAM: Oh, you're the lady of the house that I
burned down. -
61:49 - 61:54TALIESIN: And there's just a crypt and that's
being used for other things, but-- -
61:54 - 61:55MARISHA: But you have a title!
-
61:55 - 62:00TALIESIN: But you do have a title, at the very
least. And once a year, you have to do something -
62:00 - 62:01ridiculous.
-
62:01 - 62:02LAURA: Even so, Percy.
-
62:02 - 62:03TALIESIN: You're welcome.
-
62:03 - 62:04LAURA: I thank you so much.
-
62:04 - 62:05TALIESIN: Use it in good health.
-
62:05 - 62:16TRAVIS: I lean over to Scanlan and I say, did you
notice that their dad was saying "bidet" wrong? -
62:16 - 62:20SAM: I did. I did.
-
62:20 - 62:22TRAVIS: I thought he was like a highfalutin type.
-
62:22 - 62:26SAM: You should just say it even louder to make
sure people know the correct pronunciation. -
62:26 - 62:31TRAVIS: I know. We could be a force for good in
and outside of the city. Bidet! -
62:31 - 62:32SAM: Bidet!
-
62:32 - 62:40MATT: The guards that are waiting for you outside
of the house just sigh very loudly. (sighs) -
62:40 - 62:42TRAVIS: Change is hard.
-
62:42 - 62:50MATT: All right, so you have your parchment.
Within the next half-hour or so it's not difficult for -
62:50 - 62:56you guys to go ahead and find sleeping
arrangements for the evening within Syngorn. -
62:56 - 63:00You're met for the most part with standoffishness
and curiosity with your approach, but upon showing -
63:00 - 63:06the paper there is a sudden realization and a
formality that is brought to the conversation, and -
63:06 - 63:10it's, you can't help but enjoy it, the two of you.
You haven't walked through Syngorn and been -
63:10 - 63:14forcing people to show you the respect you've
always wanted, and there is something slightly -
63:14 - 63:24cathartic about that. But you manage to find
accommodations for the evening's rest. The guards -
63:24 - 63:32proceed up into the secondary floor where your
room is kept. Will not enter the room, but -
63:32 - 63:36notify you that they will be staying outside of
the doorway to ensure that both you are protected -
63:36 - 63:39and that you don't do anything crazy in the
night. -
63:39 - 63:40TRAVIS: What?
-
63:40 - 63:41LAURA: That's stupid.
-
63:41 - 63:43MARISHA: We're respectable.
-
63:43 - 63:46TALIESIN: It's adorable that they think they could
stop us if we tried. -
63:46 - 63:50MARISHA: I know! Are we all in rooms next to each
other, are we in one room? -
63:50 - 63:57MATT: It's a series of rooms within what looks
like it was at one time a military barracks that -
63:57 - 64:03has since been renovated. It's not really an inn
or tavern; there aren't a lot of travelers that -
64:03 - 64:08come through Syngorn that don't actually live
there or have a home, so it's more being used for -
64:08 - 64:14storage, but they cleared out an area and they put
up beds and it looks-- Syngorn storage room is -
64:14 - 64:18pretty nice by the standards of like Kymal or
Westruun, so it's not too bad. -
64:18 - 64:22TALIESIN: There's some art nouveau happening.
That's all I can really ask. -
64:22 - 64:24MARISHA: Have they already locked us in our
rooms? -
64:24 - 64:28MATT: No, you've just gotten to your rooms now,
so. -
64:28 - 64:31TRAVIS: We're a very religious group and we like
to have a family prayer. -
64:31 - 64:36LAURA: Speaking of, wait. Where the fuck is Pike?
-
64:36 - 64:37SAM: Oh shit.
-
64:37 - 64:44MARISHA: She was right behind us!
-
64:44 - 64:52MATT: You all, you all realize in the chaos and
the tension of meeting your father-- -
64:52 - 64:53LIAM: Must've gotten lost!
-
64:53 - 64:56TRAVIS: No, she's here.
-
64:56 - 65:02MATT: You catch a sudden flicker of divine energy
in the space of the hallway near you. The guards -
65:02 - 65:11step back, looking a bit freaked out and grabbing
their weaponry, and you see a burst of Pike's face -
65:11 - 65:18coming through, her divine form, and she says,
"I'm sorry--" (static) Disappears, comes back. -
65:18 - 65:26"The walls--can't maintain--" And her form
vanishes once again. -
65:26 - 65:28TRAVIS: Fucking Verizon.
-
65:28 - 65:32(laughter)
-
65:32 - 65:36LAURA: Great, now we'll never have them as a
sponsor. Thank you, Travis. -
65:36 - 65:39LIAM: Go T-Mobile.
-
65:39 - 65:42MATT: Go AT-- No.
-
65:42 - 65:52MARISHA: So can we have like a little family
pow-wow in maybe one of the rooms before we all -
65:52 - 65:58tuck in for the night and you put the masking tape
over each of our doors so we don't sneak into each -
65:58 - 66:01other's rooms. High school field trip, yeah?
-
66:01 - 66:04SAM: I don't know any of those words.
-
66:04 - 66:07MATT: "Do as you wish, we'll be here if you need
us." -
66:07 - 66:10TRAVIS: Do you need anything, drinks?
-
66:10 - 66:13SAM: We need to talk to the little fucker.
-
66:13 - 66:20TRAVIS: Then-- oh, what? Oh, yeah! Well, let's all
head inside for prayer. -
66:20 - 66:21LAURA: Actually--
-
66:21 - 66:24TALIESIN: We'll need food and drink.
-
66:24 - 66:30LAURA: Guard! One of you, could you go get us some
food? We're very hungry. -
66:30 - 66:33MARISHA: And wine? Maybe some wine?
-
66:33 - 66:39LAURA: As a baroness, I'm very used to getting
food when I want it. -
66:39 - 66:46MATT: One of the guards steps forward and says,
"Let me see that parchment once more, please?" -
66:46 - 66:47TRAVIS: That's not it.
-
66:47 - 66:49MATT: That's a belt buckle.
-
66:49 - 66:55(laughter)
-
66:55 - 66:57LIAM: My belt buckle!
-
66:57 - 67:05MATT: Rolls it back up, hands it back. "I will
retrieve your necessary meal, drink, and other -
67:05 - 67:07"requests you may have."
-
67:07 - 67:08LIAM: Chicken, please.
-
67:08 - 67:11LAURA: Thank you. I want anything but chicken.
-
67:11 - 67:17MATT: "Noted and noted." And he turns around and
leaves the three other guards standing outside of -
67:17 - 67:20your rooms to do about as you please.
-
67:20 - 67:23SAM: Right, so we pick the biggest room and we all
enter it. -
67:23 - 67:29MATT: It's a two-bedroom, opposite sides, and
there is a window that has a beautiful view of the -
67:29 - 67:35central lake that sits at the center of Syngorn,
the entire city's built around, before it meets -
67:35 - 67:37the base of the mountain range that it's
buttressed against. -
67:37 - 67:39SAM: Titicaca.
-
67:39 - 67:44MATT: That sounds Elvish, but it's not.
-
67:44 - 67:47SAM: No, I just like saying that.
-
67:47 - 67:49MATT: Door closes behind you guys.
-
67:49 - 67:52TRAVIS: Gormidi?
-
67:52 - 68:00MATT: There's a little flash, a sparkle of arcane
light as the satyr form goes, (breathes heavily) -
68:00 - 68:03"That was a little harrowing. You didn't tell me
you were going to bring me into the belly of the -
68:03 - 68:07"beast so soon, we didn't even talk about-- that
was really good tea, by the way; -
68:07 - 68:08"that was quite delicious."
-
68:08 - 68:10TALIESIN: You were drinking our tea?
-
68:10 - 68:12MATT: "Very quietly."
-
68:12 - 68:14MARISHA: I was wondering where my tea went.
-
68:14 - 68:18TRAVIS: Now, hold on. Did you steal anything while
you were in there? -
68:18 - 68:19MATT: "No!"
-
68:19 - 68:21MARISHA: Garmelie...
-
68:21 - 68:23MATT: "No!"
-
68:23 - 68:26SAM: Insight-check him.
-
68:26 - 68:27TRAVIS: Insight-check that bitch!
-
68:27 - 68:29SAM: Natural one.
-
68:29 - 68:34(laughter)
-
68:34 - 68:37MATT: He is about as hard to read as anyone you've
come across in the Feywild. -
68:37 - 68:38MARISHA: Can I try?
-
68:38 - 68:39MATT: Sure.
-
68:39 - 68:42LAURA: I feel like we don't need an insight check
to know he was lying. -
68:42 - 68:49MARISHA: Oh, I got a 17. I'm way more better than
Scanlan. Natural insight. 28. -
68:49 - 68:54MATT: 28. Through his teeth.
-
68:54 - 69:05MARISHA: I do a little entangling underneath of
him and start checking his pockets, TSA style. -
69:05 - 69:07Start giving him the frisk.
-
69:07 - 69:10MATT: These vines wrap up around his legs and he's
like, "Oh, I was just!" -
69:10 - 69:12MARISHA: Into the pockets.
-
69:12 - 69:14TRAVIS: Just let it happen.
-
69:14 - 69:16LAURA: Where are the pockets?
-
69:16 - 69:17MATT: In his vest.
-
69:17 - 69:18MARISHA: In his vest pockets.
-
69:18 - 69:23TALIESIN: There better not be an owlbear in there
or I'm going to be very upset. -
69:23 - 69:28MATT: No, you reach into one pocket, it's empty.
You reach into the other, and your arm goes quite -
69:28 - 69:30far into the pocket, farther than it should--
-
69:30 - 69:31MARISHA: You little devil.
-
69:31 - 69:40MATT: "What? This is extremely degrading! We had a
deal." It's empty. -
69:40 - 69:51MARISHA: Is this a pocket of holding? I think
about the fancy silverware that I might've seen in -
69:51 - 69:53Syldor's house.
-
69:53 - 69:56MATT: Nothing. Just an empty space.
-
69:56 - 69:57TRAVIS: Come on, keep going.
-
69:57 - 70:01MARISHA: I think of fancy teacups, because he
mentioned drinking tea. -
70:01 - 70:03MATT: (melodically) Nothing!
-
70:03 - 70:05MARISHA: Goddamn it.
-
70:05 - 70:07TRAVIS: You've never stolen anything, shit!
-
70:07 - 70:09LAURA: Think of gold. Think of gold, Keyleth.
-
70:09 - 70:10TALIESIN: I cast Friends.
-
70:10 - 70:13MARISHA: I think of gold? Oh, I think of gold.
Sorry, I'm not materialistic. -
70:13 - 70:16TALIESIN: We're going to have to have a working
relationship. -
70:16 - 70:18LAURA: Why do you say that like it was a bad
thing? -
70:18 - 70:22MARISHA: I mean, I'm not. I'm a Barbie girl in a
Barbie world. -
70:22 - 70:25(laughter)
-
70:25 - 70:27MATT: He smacks the side of your arm and is like,
"Get your hand out of my pocket!" -
70:27 - 70:29MARISHA: Ow!
-
70:29 - 70:31LIAM: Keyleth. Check the fur.
-
70:31 - 70:33LAURA: No, don't check the fur.
-
70:33 - 70:36MATT: "Excuse me?!"
-
70:36 - 70:40TALIESIN: Let's give him a chance to 'fess up.
-
70:40 - 70:48MATT: "This is not why we're here to talk. We are
here to discuss the elements of our agreement. Two -
70:48 - 70:54"things I require your aid in taking, and then I
show you to the outskirts of the Shademirk." -
70:54 - 70:58LAURA: I feel like now we already know where the
outskirts of the Shademirk are. -
70:58 - 71:01MATT: "But do you know of the dangers that are on
your way?" -
71:01 - 71:03SAM: Yeah, you told us about all three dangers
that we have to face. -
71:03 - 71:05MARISHA: That's true. I have them written down.
-
71:05 - 71:09(laughter)
-
71:09 - 71:14MARISHA: The Hut of Wodenna, the Last Camp of
Sorudun the Happy, and the theatre. -
71:14 - 71:22MATT: "And you think those are all the dangers?!
There are so many! It's a dangerous place! -
71:22 - 71:26"Stop touching me!"
-
71:26 - 71:28TRAVIS: All right, hands off him.
-
71:28 - 71:31SAM: Just tell us what the two things are we that
we need to steal. -
71:31 - 71:37MATT: "All right. I require a piece of a threshold
crest." -
71:37 - 71:39LAURA: What the fuck is that?
-
71:39 - 71:40MARISHA: Of a threshold crest?
-
71:40 - 71:42LIAM: Giant stones on the outside of the city.
-
71:42 - 71:47MATT: "Threshold crest." Which you recall are the
blue stones that are in the wall around the city. -
71:47 - 71:48LAURA: That's the stupidest thing.
-
71:48 - 71:50MARISHA: Oh no!
-
71:50 - 71:52MATT: "Why is that stupid?"
-
71:52 - 71:54LAURA: Because then they can't go back!
-
71:54 - 71:57MATT: "You don't have to get it from the wall. I'm
sure they build it from something and there might -
71:57 - 71:58"be a reserve somewhere."
-
71:58 - 72:03MARISHA: Right, in the other dimension that they
came from. You realize Syngorn didn't originate -
72:03 - 72:05here in the Feywild, right?
-
72:05 - 72:07MATT: "I understand, but just..."
-
72:07 - 72:10MARISHA: Oh, lord have-- oh, sweet Sarenrae.
-
72:10 - 72:14TALIESIN: Wait, okay, a threshold-- a piece?
-
72:14 - 72:18MATT: "A piece of a threshold crest. Just but a
sliver." -
72:18 - 72:21LIAM: The same material?
-
72:21 - 72:27MATT: "The same material enchanted that is
functionally able to be -
72:27 - 72:29"utilized in the same fashion."
-
72:29 - 72:30TRAVIS: No problem. What else?
-
72:30 - 72:38MATT: "Great. I also want the High Warden
Tyrelda's hat." -
72:38 - 72:39TRAVIS: Her hat?
-
72:39 - 72:44LAURA: Do we know what her hat looks like?
-
72:44 - 72:45MATT: You do, actually.
-
72:45 - 72:46LAURA: What does it look like?
-
72:46 - 72:50MATT: It's a pointed, small tricorn made of green
velvet that she wears when she goes on like -
72:50 - 72:52excursions outside of the city.
-
72:52 - 72:55MARISHA: Oh my god, she's got a pirate tri-corner
hat? -
72:55 - 73:01MATT: It's small and very long. Imagine a pirate
hat with a little more of an -
73:01 - 73:02elven sleekness to it.
-
73:02 - 73:05LAURA: Wait, like a Robin Hood hat? Like Peter
Pan! -
73:05 - 73:06MARISHA: Oh my god, like Peter Pan!
-
73:06 - 73:08MATT: Sure, yeah!
-
73:08 - 73:15LIAM: I wasn't looking forward to this moment, but
that actually sounds like fun. -
73:15 - 73:19LAURA: That's it, that's all you need?
-
73:19 - 73:23MATT: "That's all! And I will fulfill my side of
the deal." -
73:23 - 73:28MARISHA: I have a vague idea of why you might want
a piece of the threshold crest, but why would you -
73:28 - 73:30want the High Warden's hat?
-
73:30 - 73:32MATT: "Because I have my reasons."
-
73:32 - 73:38TALIESIN: So. Are you going to give us what you
stole now? We have an arrangement. -
73:38 - 73:40MATT: "We do have an arrangement."
-
73:40 - 73:44TALIESIN: It's only fair. Come on.
-
73:44 - 73:55MATT: Reaches into his pocket and pulls out what
looks to be a very finely sculpted bronze statue -
73:55 - 74:04of Syldor that was gifted for essentially his work
with Emon and establishing better trade routes -
74:04 - 74:11between that city and this city. It's basically a
good job, salesman of the year award of Syldor's. -
74:11 - 74:12MARISHA: They stole his Emmy?
-
74:12 - 74:13MATT: Kind of, yeah.
-
74:13 - 74:15LAURA: No, it's like they stole his gold watch.
-
74:15 - 74:21LIAM: I yoink it out of his hand. I'll take that.
I got it right here. -
74:21 - 74:23SAM: It's a belt buckle.
-
74:23 - 74:24LIAM: Right on my belt.
-
74:24 - 74:30TRAVIS: So weird, you pickpocketed the thing that
wasn't even expensive. -
74:30 - 74:32LAURA: Why did you take that?
-
74:32 - 74:34SAM: He can't help it, he's a klepto.
-
74:34 - 74:37MATT: "No! It was there and nobody was looking."
-
74:37 - 74:41MARISHA: Because it ultimately doesn't matter. You
know how awards work. Come on. -
74:41 - 74:48MATT: "Regardless, we have business to tend to.
Come, we have a hat to catch!" -
74:48 - 74:51LIAM: Oh, you want to come along?
-
74:51 - 75:04MARISHA: Oh, hang on, before we all leave. Vex and
Vax, what did your dad do back in the day? Because -
75:04 - 75:07he knows Allura and he talked about knowing
Thordak. -
75:07 - 75:09LAURA: He's an ambassador to the city.
-
75:09 - 75:12MARISHA: Does he have any type of fighting
capabilities? -
75:12 - 75:15LAURA: Ugh. If he does, we never saw it.
-
75:15 - 75:17LIAM: Yeah, he'll bore you to death.
-
75:17 - 75:20LAURA: Yeah, he can talk a lot.
-
75:20 - 75:27MARISHA: Because it sounds like he was a part of
the mission to lock in Thordak -
75:27 - 75:2911 or so years ago.
-
75:29 - 75:32LAURA: What? No way.
-
75:32 - 75:36MARISHA: He mentioned that he's been down this
road before. -
75:36 - 75:40LAURA: He knows Allura because he knew the Council
members. -
75:40 - 75:42He was the one that sent us off to find...
-
75:42 - 75:49LIAM: He's a traveling salesman that sells
politics. He's not anything all that fancy. -
75:49 - 75:57MARISHA: Well, if he sells politics, there could
be a lot in selling war against a dragon. I'm not -
75:57 - 76:02trying to be a dick, but your father was kind of a
dick so I'm just questioning it. -
76:02 - 76:05LAURA: No, he's an asshole. That's totally fine.
-
76:05 - 76:06MARISHA: I'm not trying to talk shit about your
family. -
76:06 - 76:08LAURA: No, feel free.
-
76:08 - 76:09MARISHA: Okay.
-
76:09 - 76:14TRAVIS: Y'all should totally fight right now. Just
fight in the room while we're all here and take -
76:14 - 76:15off your clothes.
-
76:15 - 76:17MARISHA: I'm just saying.
-
76:17 - 76:19TRAVIS: Only way to solve it.
-
76:19 - 76:21LAURA: Totally, totally.
-
76:21 - 76:22TRAVIS: Yep.
-
76:22 - 76:24TALIESIN: No, that's a very dark and disturbing
thought. I'm very impressed. -
76:24 - 76:26MARISHA: Thank you! I've been learning from you.
-
76:26 - 76:29TALIESIN: Thank you. Now I feel guilty.
-
76:29 - 76:35MARISHA: I don't mean to question to him, he just
said a few things that raised a few hairs on the -
76:35 - 76:36back of my spine.
-
76:36 - 76:40LAURA: Well, maybe we can ask him about it?
-
76:40 - 76:42TRAVIS: You have hair on your spine?
-
76:42 - 76:51MARISHA: About this time I use Alter Self to go a
little half-Minxie and get those-- like when a dog -
76:51 - 76:54is pissed off and it puffs up the hair, towards
Grog. -
76:54 - 76:59MATT: She shows you this emerging patch of fur
that is like, shh, pushing out the back of her -
76:59 - 77:00shoulders.
-
77:00 - 77:01LAURA: That's real sexy.
-
77:01 - 77:02TRAVIS: Pretty sweet.
-
77:02 - 77:04LAURA: Pretty hot.
-
77:04 - 77:11TALIESIN: It is a very fair point, although I
would say I think it would be best to talk to -
77:11 - 77:18Allura about your father rather than talk to him
again, I think he's possibly had enough of us for -
77:18 - 77:19a while.
-
77:19 - 77:25TRAVIS: So we have the meeting, we go get the
tricorn hat from her, like, boudoir and then we go get -
77:25 - 77:27the crest on the way out, right?
-
77:27 - 77:32SAM: Maybe we can even find a clue about where
this crest thing is from the meeting. -
77:32 - 77:37MATT: "Grand! That's a great idea! That's a great
idea." -
77:37 - 77:40LAURA: Should we sleep before the meeting?
-
77:40 - 77:42TALIESIN: I think the meeting is actually
tomorrow. -
77:42 - 77:44LAURA: Yes.
-
77:44 - 77:50SAM: It just says we get one meeting, I don't
think it's been "sheduled" yet. Should we go -
77:50 - 77:51"shedule" it?
-
77:51 - 77:53LAURA: Let's "shedule" the meeting.
-
77:53 - 77:57TRAVIS: Or maybe we could send one of the shitty
guards to go "shedule" it for us. -
77:57 - 78:03LAURA: Is he back from getting us food? Oh no, I
hope he's not, because I want to send a second one -
78:03 - 78:04out there.
-
78:04 - 78:06SAM: Ooh! Because you're a lady.
-
78:06 - 78:07LAURA: Because I'm a baroness.
-
78:07 - 78:09TRAVIS: I don't think they're going to leave us
all alone. -
78:09 - 78:11TALIESIN: I have made such a terrible mistake.
-
78:11 - 78:15(laughter)
-
78:15 - 78:20MATT: You go and check, you check the hallway, and
the guard hasn't returned and the three suddenly -
78:20 - 78:21spin around as the door opens.
-
78:21 - 78:27LAURA: Hello! We require a meeting with the High
Warden. -
78:27 - 78:32MARISHA: I do a little gust cantrip from behind
the door to make her hair blow in the wind. -
78:32 - 78:48(laughter)
-
78:48 - 78:55MATT: "I need to take this with me. To make the
meeting schedulable." -
78:55 - 78:57TALIESIN: Yes, of course.
-
78:57 - 78:58LAURA: "Shedulable."
-
78:58 - 79:00MATT: "Shedulable."
-
79:00 - 79:02TRAVIS: Bidet!
-
79:02 - 79:07SAM: When would we like the meeting? Tonight or
tomorrow? -
79:07 - 79:09LAURA and LIAM: Tomorrow.
-
79:09 - 79:11MATT: You guys did wake up about four hours ago?
-
79:11 - 79:13LIAM: Did we?
-
79:13 - 79:14SAM: Today! Later today.
-
79:14 - 79:15TALIESIN: We'll take the meeting today.
-
79:15 - 79:17SAM: Right after siesta.
-
79:17 - 79:19LIAM: It's like northern Alaska.
-
79:19 - 79:29MATT: "Very well. I'll return." He turns around
and leaves and the two guards look at each other -
79:29 - 79:34like, thank god it wasn't us. They both stand at
the ready as he goes. -
79:34 - 79:40TALIESIN: Let that be a lesson to the two of you
about making fun of a foreigner's accent. I'm -
79:40 - 79:41watching you.
-
79:41 - 79:44MATT: As the door slowly closes.
-
79:44 - 79:45TALIESIN: Schedulable!
-
79:45 - 79:52MATT: The faun, of which is currently-- Garmelie
is up on one of the beds right now, stretched out. -
79:52 - 79:56"So! What are you waiting for?"
-
79:56 - 79:57LAURA: That's your bed, Keyleth.
-
79:57 - 79:58MARISHA: Aw, man.
-
79:58 - 80:01LAURA: Yeah.
-
80:01 - 80:03MATT: Brings up one leg.
-
80:03 - 80:06LAURA: Trinket jumps up on the bed and snuggles in
with him. -
80:06 - 80:09MATT: "No, don't, ugh!" (bear noises)
-
80:09 - 80:11MARISHA: Aw, they're shedding on it!
-
80:11 - 80:16MATT: (creak, crash) The bottom cracks and the bed
actually falls flat on the ground. The springs -
80:16 - 80:17destroyed.
-
80:17 - 80:19TALIESIN: It's all right, it's a futon now. It's
like college. -
80:19 - 80:25TRAVIS: Have we seen any of these threshold crests
on our way in? -
80:25 - 80:26LIAM: Yeah, we walked past some.
-
80:26 - 80:30MARISHA: They're those little blue stones that are
keeping the city here. -
80:30 - 80:33TRAVIS: Don't say it like it's obvious. I don't
pay attention to shit. -
80:33 - 80:35LAURA: But we just need a sliver of one.
-
80:35 - 80:40TRAVIS: Right, so like, I could take Vax's head
and smash it against one and then pick up the -
80:40 - 80:44pieces. No, that's a bad thing from your frown.
-
80:44 - 80:51MARISHA: Although Grog doesn't have the worst
idea. And I don't mean smashing Vax's head. That's -
80:51 - 80:59not what I mean. But don't we have some hidden
gems, because I'm really terrified if we start -
80:59 - 81:02hacking away at these stones what might happen.
-
81:02 - 81:04LAURA: They might not be able to return.
-
81:04 - 81:06MARISHA: So maybe we can do something kind of
fakey. -
81:06 - 81:08SAM: He's in the room.
-
81:08 - 81:10(laughter)
-
81:10 - 81:12MARISHA: Is he asleep? He's asleep, right?
-
81:12 - 81:14MATT: No, he's currently partially crushed by
Trinket on the bed and goes like, -
81:14 - 81:16"I can hear you!"
-
81:16 - 81:23TRAVIS: I mean, we have jewels and shit, just
stuff hanging around, but what does that do? -
81:23 - 81:27SAM: No, how do we know if we can chip
a piece off without ruining it? -
81:27 - 81:28LAURA: I wouldn't risk it.
-
81:28 - 81:32LIAM: I think we should talk to some people and
ask a couple of questions around town first. -
81:32 - 81:36LAURA: Yeah. Maybe somebody, maybe the High Warden
knows. Maybe we can sneak it out of there or -
81:36 - 81:37something.
-
81:37 - 81:38LIAM: Just drop it in passing.
-
81:38 - 81:41TRAVIS: Ooh! Like a souvenir. "Can we have a piece
of your threshold crest?" -
81:41 - 81:43LAURA: Exactly like that, Grog, exactly like
that. -
81:43 - 81:46TRAVIS: Shit, I have got all the good ideas
today. -
81:46 - 81:48(laughter)
-
81:48 - 81:58TRAVIS: I'm the leader. So what do we do until the
guard comes back? -
81:58 - 82:03MATT: The door opens, the guard comes around with
food and hands it out to the rest of-- -
82:03 - 82:06LAURA: Does anybody have money for a tip? Because
I think you're supposed to tip them. -
82:06 - 82:07TRAVIS: Yeah.
-
82:07 - 82:15MATT: "You're not supposed to tip your guards."
(boof) Slams the door behind. -
82:15 - 82:20MARISHA: That's an Emon tradition. We're overseas,
remember. -
82:20 - 82:23TALIESIN: I like it here.
-
82:23 - 82:26MATT: All right. You finish your meal.
-
82:26 - 82:27LAURA: It's delicious!
-
82:27 - 82:34MATT: And prepare yourselves for an excursion into
the city of Syngorn to seemingly steal a piece of -
82:34 - 82:37the threshold crest and the High Warden Tyrelda's
travel hat. -
82:37 - 82:44MARISHA: I turn into Minxie and resign to the idea
that I'm going to be sleeping with Garmelie and -
82:44 - 82:48Trinket and just cuddle next to them in Minxie
mode. -
82:48 - 82:50LAURA: Are you coming with us, though, Keyleth?
-
82:50 - 82:51MARISHA: Oh, we're not sleeping?
-
82:51 - 82:56SAM: No. It's like one in the afternoon, so we'll
probably just go. -
82:56 - 82:58LIAM: But you know, blow a couple more spells.
-
82:58 - 83:01MATT: So that's one use of your beast form.
-
83:01 - 83:06LAURA: Just come on, then.
-
83:06 - 83:07MARISHA: I'll come on.
-
83:07 - 83:10LIAM: Just save it. You can stay like that, just
walk close to me. -
83:10 - 83:13MARISHA: Am I going to freak people out if I walk
around like this? -
83:13 - 83:14TALIESIN: God, I hope so.
-
83:14 - 83:15LAURA: Fuck them, that's what I say.
-
83:15 - 83:21MATT: All right. You guys make your way outside
into the city streets of Syngorn to hopefully wait -
83:21 - 83:27for the other guard, who returns about ten minutes
later to tell you, "It has been 'sheduled.'" -
83:27 - 83:29TRAVIS: Ah, very good.
-
83:29 - 83:34MATT: "As soon as you wish, attend to the central
palace and there you will be greeted." -
83:34 - 83:36LAURA: Okay.
-
83:36 - 83:37TRAVIS: Yep.
-
83:37 - 83:39MATT: "Are you leaving now?"
-
83:39 - 83:40SAM: Yes.
-
83:40 - 83:42TRAVIS: Well, we waste no time.
-
83:42 - 83:46MATT: Makes a big whistle and the other guards
come down, and collectively you now have four -
83:46 - 83:48guards watching you guys.
-
83:48 - 83:49TRAVIS: Four?
-
83:49 - 83:50LAURA: Yeah. There were four of them.
-
83:50 - 83:55MARISHA: I drop Minxie form, because that seems
very aggressive. -
83:55 - 84:05SAM: As we walk I say to Vax: Oi, Vax. What is the
reason for this meeting? When we get in there, -
84:05 - 84:07what do we say to her?
-
84:07 - 84:08MARISHA: Can we have your hat?
-
84:08 - 84:16LIAM: I don't think we should lead with that.
Maybe work our way around to it. Well, I would -
84:16 - 84:22like advice other than this little hairy man for
how to get to the bog. -
84:22 - 84:24LAURA: And also what we might face.
-
84:24 - 84:25LIAM: Yes.
-
84:25 - 84:28LAURA: And how we can fight what we might face.
-
84:28 - 84:30MARISHA: She might know about Fenthras and the
bow. -
84:30 - 84:31LAURA: Yes, exactly.
-
84:31 - 84:36TRAVIS: Wait, Scanlan, can't you go invisible too?
What if you two little buggers just went off and -
84:36 - 84:39like found it on your own while we were
distracting Captain Fancy Hat. -
84:39 - 84:43SAM: Find Fenthras on our own, what?
-
84:43 - 84:47TRAVIS: Yeah, you go invisible along with Fauny
Tim over here and you just -
84:47 - 84:49go find the fucking hat.
-
84:49 - 84:50SAM: Oh, the hat.
-
84:50 - 84:51TRAVIS: Yeah.
-
84:51 - 84:54MARISHA: What if she's wearing the hat? What if
the hat is on her head? -
84:54 - 84:57TRAVIS: We kill everybody.
-
84:57 - 85:02(laughter)
-
85:02 - 85:04TALIESIN: To be fair, that usually is the plan.
-
85:04 - 85:10MATT: And thus ended the story of Vox Machina,
murdered terribly in the streets of Syngorn by -
85:10 - 85:12their own people.
-
85:12 - 85:13TALIESIN: Clutching a hat.
-
85:13 - 85:14TRAVIS: Tarantino film.
-
85:14 - 85:18MATT: As you guys make your way towards the
palace, formulating your plan, we're going to go -
85:18 - 85:24ahead and take a quick bathroom break here. Guys,
about ten, 15 minutes or so, we'll be back here in -
85:24 - 85:29just a little bit. So use your restrooms, stretch
your legs and come back. We'll see you all here in -
85:29 - 85:30a few minutes.
-
85:30 - 85:32[no audio]
-
85:32 - 85:45(cheering)
-
85:45 - 85:55MATT: That's a lot of people. Welcome back. First
off, I want to say a big thanks to Amanda Mclean -
85:55 - 85:59for making our awesome graphic for our
intermission, thank you Amanda, appreciate that. -
85:59 - 86:02(cheering)
-
86:02 - 86:09MATT: We are back. Brought to you by Loot Crate.
Let's dive back in, as you guys make your way -
86:09 - 86:16through the city of Syngorn towards the palace to
what would be the northern side of the city. -
86:16 - 86:22Eventually you come upon the large, slightly
swirling stairs that lead to the front of the -
86:22 - 86:29large brass and ivory surrounded doorway that
leads to the interior. You guys have not actually -
86:29 - 86:33been inside this palace before; you've only seen it from a
distance, as your father would not let you in too -
86:33 - 86:40close to the center of the city. As you make your
way up the stairs, you can see guards, the Verdant -
86:40 - 86:44Guards step out in an aggressive and defensive
way, but the guards to your sides immediately put -
86:44 - 86:50their hands up and signal them to put their arms
down and to stand at ease. You guys are brought to -
86:50 - 86:59the front, the doors open, and a small elderly
elvish gentleman comes out, his long white hair -
86:59 - 87:05almost touching the ground as he shuffles up. He
brings a small monocle up to the side of his face. -
87:05 - 87:12"Yes? Do you have business in the palace?"
-
87:12 - 87:14LIAM: G'day mate.
-
87:14 - 87:15MARISHA: Good day.
-
87:15 - 87:20LAURA: We do. We have a meeting with the High
Warden Tyrelda. -
87:20 - 87:31MATT: "Let me see your papers. Oh, I see they're
right here. Very well. Follow me, please." He -
87:31 - 87:37turns around and walks his way into the building.
You all follow suit and are led through the main -
87:37 - 87:43entryway to the palace itself. On the inside you
can see these giant archways that the pillars that -
87:43 - 87:49hold them up look like trees that spread to the
top like the stone boughs actually hold a canopy -
87:49 - 87:58made of marble with beautiful portraits and long
artistic renditions of the creation of Syngorn, -
87:58 - 88:03the people, each bloodline that has progressed and
taken on the central political structure of the -
88:03 - 88:11city. As it goes, you can see busts of people who have
been of historical importance to Syngorn, and -
88:11 - 88:15eventually you're brought to the very end of this
hallway. Amongst a series of other offshoot -
88:15 - 88:22hallways and doors, there is the next portion of
this journey, this large central chamber. The door -
88:22 - 88:27is already partially ajar. You are led into what
seems to be the equivalent of a throne room, but -
88:27 - 88:32it appears that there is a half-circle table in
the center of the room and a series of chairs that -
88:32 - 88:38now sit empty across from one side. Your side. The
other side of the table, you see sitting quietly -
88:38 - 88:46and patiently, an older elven woman, you can see
the grey in her hair and the crow's-nests at the -
88:46 - 88:51corner of her eyes, which in elven years means
she's quite old, she's probably close to 150 or -
88:51 - 88:59200 years old, by your gathering. They can live
quite a long time. She would be in the equivalent -
88:59 - 89:02of her late 50s.
-
89:02 - 89:07SAM: Not old enough for our party to kill
mercilessly. -
89:07 - 89:10MATT: No, that's a whole different gauge.
-
89:10 - 89:12LIAM: Throwback Thursday.
-
89:12 - 89:15LAURA: Is she wearing a hat?
-
89:15 - 89:16MATT: She is not wearing a hat.
-
89:16 - 89:19TRAVIS: Shit. All right, she lives.
-
89:19 - 89:29MATT: The guard behind ushers you guys forward
toward the chairs. You all get the idea that you -
89:29 - 89:30should sit.
-
89:30 - 89:32SAM: We sit.
-
89:32 - 89:33MATT: All right.
-
89:33 - 89:35MARISHA: Are there chairs for all of us?
-
89:35 - 89:43MATT: There are chairs for all of you but Trinket,
who currently, one of the guards is helping to put -
89:43 - 89:45his hands out in front to keep back, like.
-
89:45 - 89:47LAURA: No.
-
89:47 - 89:48LIAM: That's a good way to lose a finger.
-
89:48 - 89:54LAURA: I wouldn't mess with him if I were you,
just to be safe. And I walk up and I give Trinket -
89:54 - 89:57a kiss on the nose and I put him in his Pokeball.
-
89:57 - 90:02MATT: The guard leaps back for a second. "That's
much easier." -
90:02 - 90:06LAURA: Just watch closely, buddy.
-
90:06 - 90:09MATT: You step back, you all find your seats.
-
90:09 - 90:13LAURA: Just talking to my boobs. No big deal.
-
90:13 - 90:15LIAM: Buddy, buddy.
-
90:15 - 90:21(laughter)
-
90:21 - 90:27MATT: This meeting room pavilion, and as you all
have your seat, you see the High Warden waiting -
90:27 - 90:34there patiently, smile on her face but definitely
an expression that shows both intelligence and -
90:34 - 90:44guard. As you all sit, she looks about the group,
asks, "So you've all come and made arrangements to -
90:44 - 90:50"meet with me. You've come quite a ways and with
very short notice. I'm curious as to what your -
90:50 - 90:53"reasonings are. Please, state your business."
-
90:53 - 91:04LIAM: You probably recognize the two of us even if
you don't know us. We're Syldor's children. This -
91:04 - 91:07is my sister Vex'ahlia. I'm Vax'ildan.
-
91:07 - 91:13MATT: "Strange. It has been some time since you've
been within the city. Welcome." -
91:13 - 91:14LIAM: Thank you.
-
91:14 - 91:27LAURA: We're back because we're searching for a
certain bow, Fenthras? Said to be within the Murk -
91:27 - 91:29something?
-
91:29 - 91:31LIAM: Bog of Eternal Stench, I believe.
-
91:31 - 91:35MARISHA: Shadowmurk Bog. That's the one.
-
91:35 - 91:37MATT: "The Shademirk?"
-
91:37 - 91:38MARISHA: Shademirk. That's it.
-
91:38 - 91:49LIAM: It's not on a lark. We're not a bunch of
fly-by-nights. We've already stopped to see Vex's -
91:49 - 91:56and my father. Over the last several months, we
have been dealing, a little more closely than most -
91:56 - 92:05would want, with the Conclave, these dragons. We
know that you are struggling to do the same. We -
92:05 - 92:15have felled two of them, and I don't say that to
brag, just to impress upon you how serious we are. -
92:15 - 92:29We've come a long way, and we are in need of help.
Thank you, darling. I think that the city's -
92:29 - 92:39intentions are in the best possible place. Brings
me a great deal of personal satisfaction, -
92:39 - 92:53actually. I would like to offer our aid in service
of the very same purpose, and that bow, in my -
92:53 - 93:00sister's hands, will go a long way to felling more
of these beasts. -
93:00 - 93:13MATT: "Well. You stroll in here with a great deal
of arrogance and an air of self-importance. Not in -
93:13 - 93:21"a way that is negative, more in a way that means
you aspire, and I hope, not reaching beyond your -
93:21 - 93:29"means. If you have indeed felled these two members
of the Conclave as you say, then perhaps this -
93:29 - 93:35"errand to the Shademirk is not as dangerous as one
would expect. I would not deny you this, and if -
93:35 - 93:39"you indeed have these capabilities, you should
have no issue surviving the Mirk, -
93:39 - 93:41"you and your companions."
-
93:41 - 93:49LAURA: Syldor sent us here because he said you
would know what we might face in the Shademirk. -
93:49 - 93:59MATT: "Well. The Shademirk, as far as I
understand, was once a very beautiful landscape. -
93:59 - 94:07"That once was the fountain heart of the Gilded Run
that provided the flowing rivers that spun -
94:07 - 94:17"throughout this entire region. There was an
archfey many years before who was turned on by his -
94:17 - 94:25"beloved, who had been growing so spiteful, so full
of angst and anger and vengeful thoughts that it -
94:25 - 94:33"turned his heart dark and black and he began to
spill into the fen around him. It was there that -
94:33 - 94:39"these lands became the Shademirk. It was there
that he became one with the land and corrupted it -
94:39 - 94:46"and turned it. Dryads turned foul and shadowed.
Other creatures began to crawl up from the bog -
94:46 - 94:51"itself, and to this day feed off the life of those
they can reach. The only thing that holds its -
94:51 - 94:59"spread at bay is the Gilded Run, the rapids. Now,
it's found balance, and we watched it spread, as -
94:59 - 95:05"those who've lived here for a long time do. It
does not force any sort of immediate threat to any -
95:05 - 95:11"of us, and it serves its own purpose. It has its
new-- I shouldn't say new, it's been hundreds of -
95:11 - 95:22"years now-- but its own life, its own biome. And
we could not be ones to mess with that, if you -
95:22 - 95:29"will. But it is dangerous, and it is, for those
who have scouted far enough to see it, say it is -
95:29 - 95:38"akin to wading through an oil slick. It is to walk
into a hungry swamp that -
95:38 - 95:42"never gives up its need to feed."
-
95:42 - 95:43LAURA: Sounds lovely.
-
95:43 - 95:45MATT: "Yes, quite."
-
95:45 - 95:56LAURA: You say you've lived here. I know the city
goes back and forth between the Feywild. Do you -
95:56 - 95:58travel more freely?
-
95:58 - 96:04MATT: "I haven't in my older years. When I was
younger, perhaps. It is important to maintain an -
96:04 - 96:11"idea of the current state of the Feywild. Every
few decades, perhaps every generation, just to be -
96:11 - 96:16"certain when we have to undergo this transition
that we don't come into the middle of a war zone -
96:16 - 96:23"in its own right. But I grow tired in my older
years, and find myself chained to politics more -
96:23 - 96:25"often than not."
-
96:25 - 96:31LAURA: How did you make that transition so easily?
I know that the threshold crests are how the city -
96:31 - 96:33gets around.
-
96:33 - 96:37(laughter)
-
96:37 - 96:46MATT: "Well, there are thin areas between the
planes, there are doorways, and we have magical -
96:46 - 96:51"means to send small scouting parties between this
veil." -
96:51 - 96:55SAM: Go on.
-
96:55 - 97:04LAURA: Well, I don't want to be a bother, yes,
but. Do they entail any part of those threshold -
97:04 - 97:10crests? I'm wondering because perhaps we might
find ourselves in need of traveling, as well. -
97:10 - 97:16LIAM: We know we're strangers. But we read much
wisdom and experience in your eyes, and it would -
97:16 - 97:23seem that you have encountered this place
yourself, or have experience in the past with -
97:23 - 97:26those who have, and we're just looking for an
edge, really. -
97:26 - 97:29MATT: You make a persuasion check.
-
97:29 - 97:32LAURA: Oh, do I want to roll this one or do I want
to roll-- -
97:32 - 97:34TRAVIS: Oh, just pick one.
-
97:34 - 97:35LAURA: Okay.
-
97:35 - 97:37MATT: The ever-plight of Laura Bailey.
-
97:37 - 97:40LAURA: Ooh! That's a good, that's a good, I'm glad
I switched! -
97:40 - 97:44TRAVIS: There are 300 fucking dice on this table.
-
97:44 - 97:47LAURA: 27.
-
97:47 - 97:48LIAM: Ooh.
-
97:48 - 98:03MATT: "We have refined the art of creating the
threshold crests. We have personalized -
98:03 - 98:14"enchantments that can be utilized for our trained
spies, our trained guides, our trained scouts. We -
98:14 - 98:20"keep them under lock and key, but when an endeavor
requires the transference between planes, we do on -
98:20 - 98:25"occasion allow these to go into the hands of our
greatest guides." -
98:25 - 98:38LAURA: If a party would be in search of an item
that would be of great use to your survival, would -
98:38 - 98:41that be worthy?
-
98:41 - 98:43LIAM: Listen, we know we're bastards.
-
98:43 - 98:45LAURA: Stop bringing up the bastard part!
-
98:45 - 98:59LIAM: Clearly. Look into my eyes, we share the
same goal. Half of my blood is yours. I want to -
98:59 - 99:12kill the threat to your city and to all cities. I
ask with complete humility. I know what I'm -
99:12 - 99:16asking. Please.
-
99:16 - 99:20MATT: Make a persuasion check.
-
99:20 - 99:22LAURA: Which one? Him or me?
-
99:22 - 99:23MATT: Him.
-
99:23 - 99:26LAURA: Fuck, can I give him advantage, can I help
him? -
99:26 - 99:27LIAM: Using Luck.
-
99:27 - 99:29MATT: No, he's got Luck. He has his own.
-
99:29 - 99:32LAURA: Come on, you motherfucker.
-
99:32 - 99:38LIAM: Ouch. I rolled the same thing. Low number
twice. No, that's a big five. -
99:38 - 99:41LAURA: Wait, no, everything's ten. I thought
everything was a ten! -
99:41 - 99:46LIAM: No, that's right, you're right. So that is
a-- -
99:46 - 99:48LAURA: 12.
-
99:48 - 99:49LIAM: No, 13.
-
99:49 - 99:51SAM: Oh, that's better.
-
99:51 - 99:53MATT: It's better.
-
99:53 - 99:58LAURA: Why did you talk? I think she would've
listened to me. -
99:58 - 100:05(laughter)
-
100:05 - 100:16MATT: "I appreciate your intent, and I understand
that our current paths will hopefully align in the -
100:16 - 100:24"near future. However, such artifacts are very
important to us and the business within Syngorn, -
100:24 - 100:30"and I mean no offense in saying that you are no
longer residents of our city. As such, no, I -
100:30 - 100:38"cannot provide you with these crystals. However, when
the time comes, and you retrieve this bow which -
100:38 - 100:43"you say you seek, I hope that we can count each
other brethren on the battlefield." -
100:43 - 100:50TRAVIS: Can I look around the room? Are there any
doors open, ajar, leading into a bedroom with a -
100:50 - 100:52hat on a rack?
-
100:52 - 100:55MATT: Make a perception check, Grog.
-
100:55 - 100:56SAM: Are there any guards in here with us?
-
100:56 - 100:59MATT: Yeah, the guards have led you in, they're
just back by the front door you entered. -
100:59 - 101:03TALIESIN: There's a hat rack and a Starbucks,
that's what's in the room right there. It's a hat -
101:03 - 101:04rack and a Starbucks.
-
101:04 - 101:09TRAVIS: 19. Natural.
-
101:09 - 101:14LIAM: I'm rusty on my rules. That should've been a
17. -
101:14 - 101:15MATT: What'd you roll?
-
101:15 - 101:21LIAM: I rolled a three, but because of reliable
talent, anything lower counts as a ten. Ten plus -
101:21 - 101:25my persuasion of seven is 17. I'm just rusty.
-
101:25 - 101:28MATT: I understand. Same answer.
-
101:28 - 101:31(laughter)
-
101:31 - 101:34LIAM: That is racist!
-
101:34 - 101:39MATT: No, that is a very closely guarded item that
would've required a roll of 20 or higher to -
101:39 - 101:41succeed.
-
101:41 - 101:44LIAM: The whole time I was like, that seems wrong
to me; that it's so low. -
101:44 - 101:46MATT: Yeah man, reliable talent's good for that
reason. -
101:46 - 101:48LAURA: Why did your luck suck that time?
-
101:48 - 101:57MATT: It's all right. Grog, glancing about the
room, your suddenly strangely keen giant eyes -
101:57 - 102:02in an elvish realm, you who can read patterns in
rock and mountain faces, but when looking at -
102:02 - 102:09finely crafted marble it's just a big mess. You
see at the very back of the chamber what appears -
102:09 - 102:17to be an imprint into one of the sculptures, one
of the almost silver and brass latticework that -
102:17 - 102:22tends to look like climbing roots and vines across
the back of the room. There is a door that is -
102:22 - 102:25recessed within that, though it's hidden in
the sculpture itself. -
102:25 - 102:31"Now. Unless you have other business?"
-
102:31 - 102:34SAM: I have a little bit of business.
-
102:34 - 102:35MATT: "Yes."
-
102:35 - 102:40TALIESIN: Good, carry on. Sorry.
-
102:40 - 102:46SAM: Everyone who meets me knows I am a collector
of hats. -
102:46 - 102:55(laughter)
-
102:55 - 103:06SAM: I take out my beret and I put it on and I
say, why, this one was a very special beret I got -
103:06 - 103:10by defending Whitestone against an invasion of
vampires, singlehandedly -
103:10 - 103:13freeing the city from the scourge.
-
103:13 - 103:16MATT: "That sounds entirely believable."
-
103:16 - 103:22SAM: Yes. It's a fine garment woven by a master
craftsman. I hear you have a fine hat, as well, -
103:22 - 103:26that you've been seen wearing about town. Is that
true? -
103:26 - 103:32TALIESIN: I wish I could say this isn't true, but
it's actually true. He is genuine. -
103:32 - 103:37MATT: "I have been known to have a few garments
based on where I'm going, yes." -
103:37 - 103:43SAM: As a fine appreciator of the haberdasher
arts-- -
103:43 - 103:51(laughter)
-
103:51 - 104:00SAM: A connoisseur, really. Could you humor an old
gnome like me and show me... I hear tell of a -
104:00 - 104:05green hat. A tri-tip hat, right?
-
104:05 - 104:06MARISHA: I thought it was blue.
-
104:06 - 104:07SAM: Blue hat?
-
104:07 - 104:08MARISHA: Might be green.
-
104:08 - 104:11TALIESIN: He's also colorblind, I should
mention. -
104:11 - 104:16SAM: Tri-tip, triangular-- I just hear it's
fantastic, I've never seen one quite like it up -
104:16 - 104:19close. I was wondering if I could take a
look-see. -
104:19 - 104:21MATT: Make a deception check.
-
104:21 - 104:25SAM: With disadvantage.
-
104:25 - 104:27MATT: Yeah, because you didn't sleep.
-
104:27 - 104:29MARISHA: Yeah, you didn't sleep, Scanlan!
-
104:29 - 104:39SAM: Well, that was a natural 20. But the first
one was a six. -
104:39 - 104:41Luckily, it's plus 14, so 20.
-
104:41 - 104:44(laughing and cheering)
-
104:44 - 104:47[no audio]
-
104:47 - 104:54MATT: Bards! "From political requests to a hat
collector, this is indeed a very strange afternoon -
104:54 - 104:59"in the palace. Yes, I can have one of my servants
show you." -
104:59 - 105:04SAM: Thank you so much, it would mean so much to
me. I've never met a hat I didn't like. -
105:04 - 105:09MATT: "Then I am certain you will be fulfilled."
-
105:09 - 105:14SAM: Should we just wait here, or is it going to
be a while? -
105:14 - 105:19MATT: "No, I'll have a servant bring you up." And
she puts her hand up and the guards open the door -
105:19 - 105:27and you see a servant walk out who looks to be a
younger elven man. Actually probably about the age -
105:27 - 105:32of Vax there. Short tattered hair comes across in
front of his eyes. -
105:32 - 105:35He enters. "Yes, mother?"
-
105:35 - 105:42"Could you please show this strange little gnome
man to the hat room?" -
105:42 - 105:48"Yes, of course. Yes. Follow me."
-
105:48 - 105:51SAM: There's a hat room? I have a hat room in my
place, too! -
105:51 - 105:56MATT: "That's splendid. Now, is there any other
business?" -
105:56 - 106:03TALIESIN: Just to be clear, you would say that the
river is probably our safest mode of entry into -
106:03 - 106:04the bog?
-
106:04 - 106:10MATT: "It surrounds the bog and runs past the
southern portion of it, so you'll most likely come -
106:10 - 106:15"upon the river one way or another. Lest you wish
to traverse the Green Sea, but that I would not -
106:15 - 106:16"recommend, either."
-
106:16 - 106:20MARISHA: So there's no real easy way into the bog,
is what you're saying? -
106:20 - 106:23MATT: "There's no easy way to anything in the
Feywild, my child." -
106:23 - 106:24MARISHA: Got it.
-
106:24 - 106:26LAURA: Have you seen the tree yourself?
-
106:26 - 106:28MATT: "I have not."
-
106:28 - 106:32TALIESIN: Are there river men who run boats on the
river? -
106:32 - 106:36MATT: "No, the river tends to run itself."
-
106:36 - 106:40(laughter)
-
106:40 - 106:42TALIESIN: I had that coming. That's fair.
-
106:42 - 106:44TRAVIS: That's good.
-
106:44 - 106:51MATT: "Do you wish to inquire about my shoes? My
coat perhaps..." -
106:51 - 106:57MARISHA: Oh my god, they're so cute, though.
They're amazing shoes. I didn't notice them until -
106:57 - 107:00you pointed them out, sorry. No, continue on.
-
107:00 - 107:01MATT: "Is that all?"
-
107:01 - 107:02TALIESIN: I think that's all, yes.
-
107:02 - 107:06MATT: "All right. Good luck. I wish you safe--"
-
107:06 - 107:07MARISHA: Oh, wait, wait, lady!
-
107:07 - 107:10SAM: High Warden, High Warden.
-
107:10 - 107:18MARISHA: High Warden. I'm sorry. I was just
curious. It's my first time to Syngorn, and it's -
107:18 - 107:35in the Feywild. It's special, right? Is there a
gift shop? A visiting the temple and sights of -
107:35 - 107:37Syngorn type of shop?
-
107:37 - 107:39SAM: I went to Syngorn and all I got was this
lousy shirt? -
107:39 - 107:41MARISHA: Right!
-
107:41 - 107:43LAURA: We have to make that shirt!
-
107:43 - 107:49LIAM: Shirt after this one.
-
107:49 - 107:56MATT: "I'll see what Braum can do. Braum, please
escort them to some semblance of a gift shop." -
107:56 - 107:57MARISHA: Oh, thank you!
-
107:57 - 107:58TALIESIN: Good luck.
-
107:58 - 108:06MATT: "Now, I have important business to tend to.
Good luck. Safe travels. Don't die. Let us see -
108:06 - 108:11"each other on the battlefield soon to slay a
dragon. Now, please, be on your way." -
108:11 - 108:12LAURA: We appreciate your time.
-
108:12 - 108:15MATT: You guys get up and leave, Trinket goes--
-
108:15 - 108:17LAURA: Trinket's in my necklace.
-
108:17 - 108:21MATT: That's right, Trinket is in your necklace,
so Trinket does nothing. -
108:21 - 108:23LAURA: Trinket does nothing but stare outside of
the necklace. -
108:23 - 108:28MATT: You make your way out of the room, the
guards following suit. You can see the lightish -
108:28 - 108:32brownish reddish tousled hair of the elven boy
who's waiting, he's wearing very fine clothing, -
108:32 - 108:38though very baggy on his scrawny frame. As you all
step out, he says, "All right, so, I'm to take you -
108:38 - 108:45"to the hat room, I believe. Oh, you're going to be
very happy. It's quite the room." -
108:45 - 108:49SAM: The room I could care less about, it's those
hats! -
108:49 - 108:55MATT: "Well, I think you'll still be pleased. Are
you all coming?" -
108:55 - 108:59(noises of agreement)
-
108:59 - 109:02LIAM: Traveling with Scanlan, we've all become
amateur hat enthusiasts. -
109:02 - 109:04LAURA: I pull out my hat and I put it on.
-
109:04 - 109:07TRAVIS: Yep, I pull out the rhinoceros horn.
-
109:07 - 109:08LIAM: (gong)
-
109:08 - 109:16(laughter)
-
109:16 - 109:20MATT: And he pulls out a little masquerade mask
and goes like, "Oh my goodness!" -
109:20 - 109:22SAM: You're a hatter, too!
-
109:22 - 109:23MARISHA: Do you get the monthly newsletter?
-
109:23 - 109:30MATT: "Well, I used to, until we came to the
Feywild. It's very boring these days. Well, come, -
109:30 - 109:37"please!" And he darts off excitedly down the
hallway. The guards groan loudly behind you. You -
109:37 - 109:42make your way through the second hallway on the
left of the palace, down a flight of stairs into a -
109:42 - 109:49storage room. To the left you can see what looks
to be the entrance to some sort of a heavily -
109:49 - 109:56barred metallic doorway, about ten feet wide,
about 12 feet tall. Further down you come to two -
109:56 - 110:03doorways. He pulls out a keyring, goes, "No, not
that one. Ah, here we are." It opens up into a -
110:03 - 110:08small room, you can see in here, it's a display
room. In here you can see ornamental armor and -
110:08 - 110:16helmets and all sorts of classic Syngorean
designs, which change often because, well, elves -
110:16 - 110:19when they don't have a lot of things to fill their
time with, it's all about designing new outfits -
110:19 - 110:28and new armor. There's a whole display of very
classic designs for the guards, for the watchers, -
110:28 - 110:36for the people who first founded Syngorn. It's
like a history walk through. But there is a -
110:36 - 110:41section that is primarily helmet designs for
different stations and, "This is as close to a hat -
110:41 - 110:51"room as we have. This here is part of the original
Temple of Ioun design. It is a delightful piece." -
110:51 - 110:53He keeps going on and on.
-
110:53 - 110:56LAURA: Do we see the hat that we're looking for in
here? -
110:56 - 111:01MATT: You do see there is a small rack to the side
which is for more just things that are used and -
111:01 - 111:06you can see there are like wide-brim, rainy-day,
carriage-driving hats, you can see there are -
111:06 - 111:16far-brimmed cloak hoods that are used for
horse-riding beneath the rain, you can see there -
111:16 - 111:23are a few more curved up to one side archer-based
hats, and you can see there a nice green velvet -
111:23 - 111:26hat that is resting across.
-
111:26 - 111:27LIAM: Is that the one area with hats?
-
111:27 - 111:30LAURA: Are they all just jumbled in together?
-
111:30 - 111:34MATT: They're all jumbled in together in that
corner and then the actual helmets are against the -
111:34 - 111:35wall in different setups.
-
111:35 - 111:36LIAM: Go ahead.
-
111:36 - 111:40LAURA: I nudge Vax and I point it out.
-
111:40 - 111:44LIAM: Scanlan, look at all those codpieces across
the room! -
111:44 - 111:47LAURA: Are the guards in here with us?
-
111:47 - 111:48MATT: They are, yes.
-
111:48 - 111:53LAURA: I prat-fucking-fall. I pratfall right in
front of the guards, on -
111:53 - 111:54the opposite side of the room.
-
111:54 - 111:55MATT: Which one?
-
111:55 - 111:57LAURA: I walk to the other side of the room and I
just fall over. -
111:57 - 111:59LIAM: Eat shit, knock shit over.
-
111:59 - 112:00MATT: Make a perform check.
-
112:00 - 112:06LAURA: Oh, shit. Can it be acrobatics, though?
-
112:06 - 112:09MATT: No, acrobatics is avoiding the fall.
-
112:09 - 112:11LAURA: Shit. Okay. 19?
-
112:11 - 112:13MATT: 19!
-
112:13 - 112:14LAURA: I want to take some shit down with me.
-
112:14 - 112:20MATT: And you do, delightfully so. You fall over,
trip, go into a tumble, grab arm over pieces of -
112:20 - 112:21metallic armor, (crashing sound).
-
112:21 - 112:23LAURA: Ah, oh god, did you see that--
-
112:23 - 112:25MARISHA: Oh my god, Vex, are you okay?
-
112:25 - 112:28LAURA: I think there was a marble on the ground.
-
112:28 - 112:33MARISHA: Oh no, what? Keyleth turns to the guard.
-
112:33 - 112:44(laughter)
-
112:44 - 112:53MARISHA: That was Lady Vex'ahlia, the Baroness of
Whitestone. I could sue you! I could sue you for -
112:53 - 112:54negligence.
-
112:54 - 112:56MATT: Make a sleight-of-hand check.
-
112:56 - 112:58SAM: Hold on, he's making a check.
-
112:58 - 113:00LIAM: 24.
-
113:00 - 113:08MATT: All right. You take the hat. You place it
away. Everyone seems to be focused on the -
113:08 - 113:11currently yelling Vex'ahlia--
-
113:11 - 113:13LAURA: Ow, I think I hurt my wrist!
-
113:13 - 113:17MARISHA: You will get a letter from me, good sir.
You will get a letter, okay? -
113:17 - 113:22MATT: "This was, look, I apologize if your friend
is clumsy, but this wasn't part of our job -
113:22 - 113:24"description, okay, it's been a very--"
-
113:24 - 113:28MARISHA: Your five-star review just went to a
four, okay? I just want to say. -
113:28 - 113:34MATT: Braum pushes his way in and goes like, "I am
so terribly sorry. I didn't mean-- I hope this -
113:34 - 113:36"hasn't ruined your opinion of the hat room."
-
113:36 - 113:40LAURA: If we could just see a gift shop, I would
be thrilled. -
113:40 - 113:43TRAVIS: And I say to the side, I go, (coughs)
pinch my knee, is that the one? -
113:43 - 113:46MARISHA: What?
-
113:46 - 113:47MATT: "Are you feeling all right, sir?"
-
113:47 - 113:54TRAVIS: Yeah, no, (coughs) pinch my knee if that's
the one. No, to the little, to the little satyr. -
113:54 - 114:02TALIESIN: Let's just find a gift shop, Lady Tyrell
doesn't need to hear anything about this. Let's -
114:02 - 114:03just move on.
-
114:03 - 114:05MATT: "Lady who?"
-
114:05 - 114:08MARISHA and SAM: High Warden Tyrelda.
-
114:08 - 114:10TALIESIN: Tyrelda.
-
114:10 - 114:15SAM: Yes, well, there's another lady named Lady
Tyrell, who's... -
114:15 - 114:19TALIESIN: No, this is amazing what my handwriting
does. -
114:19 - 114:22LIAM: What did you put in that tea, Percival?
-
114:22 - 114:29MATT: "Well, I'm glad to see this hasn't ruined
your opinion of the collections here." -
114:29 - 114:32LIAM: Just the safety codes, really.
-
114:32 - 114:37MARISHA: If you took us to the gift shop, it might
fix things. Okay? -
114:37 - 114:43MATT: "Then come, come! You two clean this up!"
And the two guards go, "What?" -
114:43 - 114:53"Yes, my lord." And the two guards eye you very
intensely as they walk over and start picking up -
114:53 - 114:55all the pieces of armor--
-
114:55 - 114:57LAURA: Ow!
-
114:57 - 115:01MARISHA: I start pretending like I'm doing a Cure
Wounds spell to her wrist, you know? -
115:01 - 115:04MATT: All right. As you guys make your way out,
with two of the guards now; two of them are now -
115:04 - 115:05left behind.
-
115:05 - 115:08TALIESIN: As we walk out, I just make sure the two
guards are, I hope this didn't interrupt your -
115:08 - 115:09schedules for today.
-
115:09 - 115:12SAM: "Shedule."
-
115:12 - 115:13TALIESIN: Yes, schedule.
-
115:13 - 115:21MATT: Somehow their chin goes higher. It's
impressive, really. You make your way through, -
115:21 - 115:25down another set of hallways, back towards the
beginning of the palace, he goes, "It's not really -
115:25 - 115:32"a gift shop, the closest thing that we could
ascertain based on your request is, we do have a -
115:32 - 115:37"small collection of gifts and knick-knacks we've
received from allies over time that really aren't -
115:37 - 115:39"much use to us."
-
115:39 - 115:47MARISHA: Wait, you're taking us to the lost and
found? Please! This is the high baroness Lady -
115:47 - 115:49Vex'ahlia!
-
115:49 - 115:51MATT: "Perhaps you'll find something you like."
-
115:51 - 115:54LAURA: No, lost and found is a wonderful place to
go. -
115:54 - 116:02MATT: "It's a combination lost and found and
just... gifts from political allies that didn't -
116:02 - 116:09"understand the High Warden's aesthetic. Yes, no,
please, this way please." And he leads you back to -
116:09 - 116:12the main hallway you guys walked through, a little
ways towards the entrance, and then another -
116:12 - 116:19hallway to the left, he unlocks and this is
straight-up like a dark storage room, it is just -
116:19 - 116:25boxes and boxes that are sealed and he lights a
small lantern on the side. It flickers to life, -
116:25 - 116:29and the flame itself, as opposed to a low oil
lantern flicker is like a bright glowing light, -
116:29 - 116:33you can see this is a magically set lantern, as
most of the lights in the city are just everlit -
116:33 - 116:37torches or things that flicker on and off as a
light spell. It illuminates the room around you -
116:37 - 116:40and you can see no one's walked in here in a
while. -
116:40 - 116:42LIAM: These are for sale?
-
116:42 - 116:45MATT: "No, these are for the taking should you
wish." -
116:45 - 116:47LAURA: Awesome.
-
116:47 - 116:50SAM: Well, what do we see?
-
116:50 - 116:53MATT: Go ahead and make an investigation check.
-
116:53 - 116:55MARISHA: Can I ask a logistical question?
-
116:55 - 116:56MATT: Sure.
-
116:56 - 116:59MARISHA: Is Garmelie with us or did we leave him
behind? -
116:59 - 117:00MATT: You don't know.
-
117:00 - 117:01MARISHA: What?
-
117:01 - 117:02TALIESIN: You don't know.
-
117:02 - 117:03SAM: Grog might know.
-
117:03 - 117:05LIAM: 18.
-
117:05 - 117:06MARISHA: Grog.
-
117:06 - 117:07LAURA: 19.
-
117:07 - 117:09MATT: 18, 19, are you searching, Grog?
-
117:09 - 117:10TRAVIS: Yeah.
-
117:10 - 117:11MATT: What'd you get?
-
117:11 - 117:12TRAVIS: Nine.
-
117:12 - 117:13(laughter)
-
117:13 - 117:15MARISHA: Wait, is this an investigation?
-
117:15 - 117:16LAURA: Come on, natural 20!
-
117:16 - 117:17MARISHA: Natural one.
-
117:17 - 117:19LIAM: Oh, propeller beanie!
-
117:19 - 117:22MATT: Keyleth is distracted by the pretty light in
the fixture. -
117:22 - 117:24SAM: Natural one.
-
117:24 - 117:26(laughter)
-
117:26 - 117:31MATT: Scanlan comes up next to her and is equally
distracted by this wonderful magical light. Like -
117:31 - 117:35two moths to a flame. Percival?
-
117:35 - 117:36TALIESIN: Nine.
-
117:36 - 117:45MATT: Nine. All right. The two twins, you guys
spend some time looking through the nearby -
117:45 - 117:53riffraff and Braum is in the back, hoping you find
something to satiate your need for gifts. The -
117:53 - 118:02twins find their way through a few boxes, and you
open up and there's small porcelain dolls, dressed -
118:02 - 118:11up in ancient Emon's outfits and designs. You can
see what looks to be very dusty Kraghammer -
118:11 - 118:19designed weaponry, you can see what looks to be a
bunch of small game pieces that half of them have -
118:19 - 118:25been lost, like a chessboard of some kind, but
only part of it's there. This is really the junk -
118:25 - 118:31room. This is where all the really bad Christmas
presents get put every year. -
118:31 - 118:33"No, thanks, it's great!"
-
118:33 - 118:35SAM: Is it like Storage Wars, where there might be
something? -
118:35 - 118:40MATT: It could, it could be depending on how well
you search. -
118:40 - 118:42SAM: Well, I searched terribly.
-
118:42 - 118:43MATT: You did.
-
118:43 - 118:46MARISHA: Keyleth starts talking up Braum. Braum?
-
118:46 - 118:47MATT: Okay. Braum.
-
118:47 - 118:51MARISHA: Braum. So, Braum. Where're you from?
-
118:51 - 118:54MATT: "Syngorn?"
-
118:54 - 118:56(laughter)
-
118:56 - 118:57TRAVIS: Good start.
-
118:57 - 119:01SAM: We don't have to distract him, he said it's
all for the taking. -
119:01 - 119:03MARISHA: Oh, it's all for-- really, oh.
-
119:03 - 119:05SAM: No, that's fine, we don't have to.
-
119:05 - 119:11MARISHA: You didn't see any distraction. You
didn't see anything. -
119:11 - 119:14MATT: "I am so confused by all of you."
-
119:14 - 119:16LAURA: Can I try to do an arcana check to see if
there's anything magic in the room? -
119:16 - 119:21MATT: Sure. Make an arcana check.
-
119:21 - 119:26TRAVIS: I'll join you. Two.
-
119:26 - 119:31LAURA: Oh shit, I just rolled off the table. How
did I do that? 16. -
119:31 - 119:37MATT: Your untrained, though natural arcane
instincts reveal to you that-- -
119:37 - 119:38LAURA: I can speak with animals.
-
119:38 - 119:45MATT: Yes, you can. And there are no animals here.
Nothing even remotely magical seems to cross your -
119:45 - 119:49attention span, unfortunately, and you guys spend
a good hour in here sifting through-- -
119:49 - 119:56LIAM: As, as we're digging in the corner, I say, I
thought maybe coming back here I might like this -
119:56 - 119:59city a little bit better, and I was fucking
wrong. -
119:59 - 120:02LAURA: This place fucking sucks.
-
120:02 - 120:04SAM: Let's get out of here.
-
120:04 - 120:05TRAVIS: Yeah, there's nothing in here.
-
120:05 - 120:07SAM: No, let's leave.
-
120:07 - 120:10MARISHA: Okay, yeah, sure. Yeah.
-
120:10 - 120:11TRAVIS: Let's go.
-
120:11 - 120:12TALIESIN: Pick something pretty.
-
120:12 - 120:15MARISHA: Your four-star rating just went down to a
three. -
120:15 - 120:19TALIESIN: I am picking something random from the
room. -
120:19 - 120:26MARISHA: And I'll also pick something random out
of spite. I'll take this. -
120:26 - 120:30MATT: You have a fine tobacco box at your disposal
now, Keyleth. You can write that down. -
120:30 - 120:33MARISHA: I like it. I chose it on purpose.
-
120:33 - 120:37MATT: Percy, you find half of a jeweler's kit.
-
120:37 - 120:39TALIESIN: That's perfect.
-
120:39 - 120:40MARISHA: That's awesome.
-
120:40 - 120:46TALIESIN: I am excited. Was it literally cut in
half, like literally? -
120:46 - 120:47MATT: Half the supplies are there.
-
120:47 - 120:50MARISHA: And did you say I had a half a tobacco
box? Or no, just a tobacco box? -
120:50 - 120:52MATT: You had an older tobacco box.
-
120:52 - 120:54MARISHA: An old tobacco box. All right. Yeah,
sure. -
120:54 - 120:57MATT: Braum at this point goes, "I hope you've all
found something you liked." -
120:57 - 121:03LAURA: All right, I grab something random, too. I
mean, if we're all doing it. -
121:03 - 121:10MATT: All right. You reach into the Syngorean
Wal-mart gift bag on the way out. -
121:10 - 121:12LIAM: Come on, secret Santa.
-
121:12 - 121:15LAURA: Come on. Roll for value.
-
121:15 - 121:17MATT: No. I'll do that.
-
121:17 - 121:20LAURA: No whammies.
-
121:20 - 121:28MATT: You bring out what looks to be a really
intricately carved music box made of dark wood. -
121:28 - 121:30LAURA: Ooh, that's neat.
-
121:30 - 121:35MATT: As you shake it, you hear (ting-ting) little
remnants of the last winding come through, and it -
121:35 - 121:36seems to still play.
-
121:36 - 121:39LAURA: Mine. I'm writing it down.
-
121:39 - 121:45TRAVIS: All right, I want to reach in and grab
something out of there too. All right, fine! -
121:45 - 121:47MATT: You reach in and you pull out a potato.
-
121:47 - 121:57(laughter)
-
121:57 - 122:00MATT: But it's been there for a while, so like the
roots are growing out and everything. -
122:00 - 122:02LIAM: Oh, with leaves coming out of it.
-
122:02 - 122:02MATT: Yeah.
-
122:02 - 122:05TRAVIS: I take a bite out of it.
-
122:05 - 122:07MATT: That is a stale potato.
-
122:07 - 122:10LIAM: Make a constitution check.
-
122:10 - 122:13MARISHA: Keyleth takes the potato. Okay, give it
to me, give it to me. -
122:13 - 122:15TRAVIS: Oh here you go. And I squash it in my
hand. -
122:15 - 122:22MATT: (squelch) up the sides of it. Braum goes,
"If you could clean that up?" And the guard goes -
122:22 - 122:28aww and starts picking up the potato chunks off
the ground. -
122:28 - 122:29LAURA: We're down to one!
-
122:29 - 122:31LIAM: Hey gang, I feel like we've lost focus
here. -
122:31 - 122:33(laughter)
-
122:33 - 122:35LIAM: Maybe we should--
-
122:35 - 122:36SAM: --get out of here.
-
122:36 - 122:38LAURA: Oh, do we find any broken threshold
crests? -
122:38 - 122:40MATT: You do not.
-
122:40 - 122:41LAURA: Damn it.
-
122:41 - 122:46MARISHA: Okay, wait, do we find any pictures of
threshold crests? Or a postcard? -
122:46 - 122:47MATT: Nope.
-
122:47 - 122:49TALIESIN: We're fine.
-
122:49 - 122:49LAURA: All right.
-
122:49 - 122:50TRAVIS: We leave.
-
122:50 - 122:52MARISHA: We'll just go.
-
122:52 - 122:54SAM: We got the hat.
-
122:54 - 122:56TALIESIN: We have a plan.
-
122:56 - 123:01MATT: Braum leads you out of the room, closes and
locks it behind, you guys walk back to the hallway -
123:01 - 123:06that split off, you go past the large metal door
again, find your way up into the foyer area at the -
123:06 - 123:11front of the palace, he goes, "Well, I hope I've
been of help to you. I hope I've delivered your -
123:11 - 123:14"interest in seeing our fine selection of helmets
and hats here in Syngorn?" -
123:14 - 123:18SAM: I am more than satisfied. I will write a
five-star review. -
123:18 - 123:24MATT: "I don't know what any of that means, but I
assume that's good, and I thank you for that. -
123:24 - 123:27"Goodbye."
-
123:27 - 123:28LAURA: Thank you.
-
123:28 - 123:29TALIESIN: Charming.
-
123:29 - 123:30MARISHA: Good day.
-
123:30 - 123:31LAURA: Good day.
-
123:31 - 123:35MATT: The guard that was cleaning the potato
follows suit, you guys now have two guards, the -
123:35 - 123:38other two have not returned. So you have two
guards following you. -
123:38 - 123:43TRAVIS: I don't know if you guys noticed, but
there was this recessed door up in the queenie's -
123:43 - 123:48room, but I don't know if maybe she would have
some fancy stuff back there. -
123:48 - 123:50Can't shake these guards.
-
123:50 - 123:55SAM: Well, some of us could slip in anyway, but
what do you think we will find there? -
123:55 - 123:59TRAVIS: Well, I don't know. I just noticed,
because I wasn't paying attention to all the -
123:59 - 124:00talking.
-
124:00 - 124:06MARISHA: I think Percy and I can fake them out.
-
124:06 - 124:08SAM: Fake them out? What do you mean, fake them
out? -
124:08 - 124:10MARISHA: Wait, is he around? Don't say it out
loud. -
124:10 - 124:18TALIESIN: There's no fake. It's not faking. I've
got a plan. It's not fake, I've got a plan. It's a -
124:18 - 124:24good plan. But we should sit, recuperate, go
somewhere quiet and figure out how we're getting -
124:24 - 124:25to the bog.
-
124:25 - 124:27MARISHA: How long have we been awake at this
point? -
124:27 - 124:32MATT: You mean since you guys woke up this
morning, I'd say six hours? -
124:32 - 124:34LAURA: That's it?
-
124:34 - 124:38TRAVIS: We don't want to go try and bust one of
the crests we already saw? -
124:38 - 124:42LAURA: We could seriously like fuck it up, what if
they can't get back? -
124:42 - 124:45TRAVIS: Who gives a fuck?
-
124:45 - 124:48LAURA: They have an entire army to help fight
Thordak. -
124:48 - 124:51TRAVIS: I didn't think that far ahead, I'm sorry.
-
124:51 - 124:57SAM: Well, Vex, they could repair it; they have
magicians here and stuff. -
124:57 - 124:58TRAVIS: Thank you, Scanlan.
-
124:58 - 125:00TALIESIN: How do you repair a--
-
125:00 - 125:03SAM: With arcane juju.
-
125:03 - 125:07LAURA: You make a very good point. A very good
point. -
125:07 - 125:13MARISHA: But they said they got these stones from
the other side, from our realm. -
125:13 - 125:15LAURA: Maybe we should just go fucking check them
out. -
125:15 - 125:18LIAM: The two guards are here to whole time,
right? -
125:18 - 125:19MATT: Yes.
-
125:19 - 125:23LIAM: Yeah. We should really go take a nap, I
think we should go take a nap. -
125:23 - 125:27LAURA: This dusk is really making me--
-
125:27 - 125:31MATT: Vex. You hear muttered under the breath of
one of the guards, "Thank god." -
125:31 - 125:33(laughter)
-
125:33 - 125:35MATT: Very low; nobody else hears it.
-
125:35 - 125:37MARISHA: I've got plenty of energy.
-
125:37 - 125:41LAURA: I mean, is, is anyone else super duper
tired? Are you guys tired? -
125:41 - 125:42MARISHA: I'm--
-
125:42 - 125:44MARISHA and TALIESIN: Tired.
-
125:44 - 125:47MARISHA: So tired.
-
125:47 - 125:54LAURA: I look at the guards. I mean, are you guys
tired? I mean, how do you even know what fucking -
125:54 - 125:56time it is, right?
-
125:56 - 125:57MARISHA: Right?
-
125:57 - 126:00MATT: "Do you wish to be escorted to your
quarters, then?" -
126:00 - 126:02LAURA: I would love to get some sleep.
-
126:02 - 126:07MATT: "Please follow us." And they both lead on,
leading you back to the rooms you guys had set for -
126:07 - 126:12the evening's rest. Eventually you get to your
rooms, the guards stay stationed outside, and you -
126:12 - 126:14are led into your individual spaces.
-
126:14 - 126:15LAURA: There's windows though, yeah?
-
126:15 - 126:17MATT: Yes.
-
126:17 - 126:19LIAM: And the guards leave us in our rooms,
obviously. -
126:19 - 126:20MATT: Yes.
-
126:20 - 126:22MARISHA: So wait, are we all in our own individual
rooms? -
126:22 - 126:25TALIESIN: We have earrings, we could just talk on
the earrings. -
126:25 - 126:26MATT: You all go into a room together, then.
-
126:26 - 126:28LAURA: Super duper happy, all together.
-
126:28 - 126:32MATT: You have four rooms at your disposal and you
all say, we're going to go sleep, and all go into -
126:32 - 126:33one room with a broken bed.
-
126:33 - 126:36SAM: We're a close-knit family.
-
126:36 - 126:38LIAM: You can make your own assumptions.
-
126:38 - 126:41MARISHA: We can go into our own rooms and I can
fix it if we don't want to tip people off. -
126:41 - 126:44SAM: No, we do what we want.
-
126:44 - 126:46TRAVIS: Yeah, we're fucking close, man.
-
126:46 - 126:51MATT: All right, you guys all enter the largest
room where you met before, and as you all find -
126:51 - 126:55your way in there, one of the guards goes, "You're
going to sleep--" -
126:55 - 126:59MARISHA: It's for prayer. We have to pray.
Remember, right, Grog? -
126:59 - 127:02TRAVIS: Oh yes, we're very holy.
-
127:02 - 127:07LAURA: Yes, it's been quite a while. I'm rather
hungry. -
127:07 - 127:09SAM: We all sleep together; it's a polyamorous
thing. -
127:09 - 127:13(laughter)
-
127:13 - 127:15TRAVIS: I told you we were holy.
-
127:15 - 127:18MATT: Scanlan and Vex, make deception checks,
please. -
127:18 - 127:19LAURA: Perception?
-
127:19 - 127:20MATT and LIAM: Deception.
-
127:20 - 127:25LAURA: Deception. Oh. Ten?
-
127:25 - 127:28SAM: 21.
-
127:28 - 127:32LIAM: (cackles) That's the lie that goes through.
-
127:32 - 127:38MATT: When you say you're tired and ready to rest,
the guard goes, "Mm-hm." And then when you say -
127:38 - 127:40polyamorous, the guard goes, "Oh."
-
127:40 - 127:43(laughter)
-
127:43 - 127:56SAM: Yeah, man. We are freak-ay.
-
127:56 - 128:00LIAM: I grab Grog by the circlet thing and say,
come on, I'm tense. Let's go. -
128:00 - 128:14(laughter)
-
128:14 - 128:21MATT: The two guards, the two guards look at each
other and take two steps away from the room. -
128:21 - 128:25"We'll keep a close watch."
-
128:25 - 128:29MARISHA: Keyleth says, we're totally
polyamorous-- -
128:29 - 128:30TALIESIN: You! No!
-
128:30 - 128:41MARISHA: And I turn Percy and Vax into squirrels
with Polymorph. See? Polyamorous. -
128:41 - 128:45MATT: The two guards look at each other, very
disturbed and say, "You've already shared too -
128:45 - 128:57"much, we don't judge, just please go 'sleep'." They
both hold their blades at the ready, both just -
128:57 - 129:03like, "What is my life right now?" All right.
-
129:03 - 129:05SAM: We may need you to clean up for us later.
-
129:05 - 129:18MATT: "Please! Go! Sleep!" You guys are now closed
off inside your room. -
129:18 - 129:20LAURA: And the squirrels.
-
129:20 - 129:21MATT: As squirrels. What are you going to do?
-
129:21 - 129:27MARISHA: Okay, I drop Polymorph. That's what
polyamorous means, right, guys? -
129:27 - 129:28TALIESIN: Yes.
-
129:28 - 129:29MARISHA: Okay.
-
129:29 - 129:32SAM: Garmelie, show thyself.
-
129:32 - 129:35MATT: He appears and goes like, "Was that true?"
-
129:35 - 129:46(laughter)
-
129:46 - 129:50MATT: He has his sketchbook at the ready and is
like, "Because I mean..." -
129:50 - 129:52TALIESIN: No. No.
-
129:52 - 129:55SAM: You don't know.
-
129:55 - 130:05MATT: "Well." He closes the book. "So. I believe
someone here took a hat?" -
130:05 - 130:15LIAM: I might have a hat for you. The other
adventure didn't turn out so well, and I really -
130:15 - 130:21want to give you this hat. I'm wondering-- fuck
it, I don't have anything to say, take the fucking hat. -
130:21 - 130:28MATT: And he puts it on. It's a little small. But
he goes, "Ah, it's fine." Smiles back. -
130:28 - 130:30LIAM: So worth it.
-
130:30 - 130:33LAURA: Yeah. That was definitely worth it.
-
130:33 - 130:39MATT: He seems extremely proud and happy that this
hat is now in his possession. "One of two. Now, -
130:39 - 130:41"the second part."
-
130:41 - 130:44SAM: Any ideas there, Garmelie?
-
130:44 - 130:45MATT: "No."
-
130:45 - 130:49LAURA: You passed by those threshold crests
several times, I'm assuming. -
130:49 - 130:55TALIESIN: Let me get this straight, Garmelie. You
require of us a piece of a threshold crest. -
130:55 - 130:56MATT: "Yes."
-
130:56 - 130:57TALIESIN: Any threshold crest.
-
130:57 - 130:57MATT: "Yes!"
-
130:57 - 130:59TALIESIN: Just as long as it's a threshold crest.
-
130:59 - 131:00MATT: "Yes!"
-
131:00 - 131:01MARISHA: And looks like a crest.
-
131:01 - 131:02TALIESIN: It's a threshold crest.
-
131:02 - 131:03MATT: "A threshold crest."
-
131:03 - 131:05TALIESIN: Okay, Keyleth. The thing we talked
about. -
131:05 - 131:12MARISHA: And I start casting Stone Shape right
under the threshold of the door to the room that -
131:12 - 131:22we're in, and I cut out a crest from the
threshold. -
131:22 - 131:24MATT: What crest do you create? What does it look
like? -
131:24 - 131:33MARISHA: A Whitestone crest. From the threshold of
the door. -
131:33 - 131:35TALIESIN: We break it.
-
131:35 - 131:39MARISHA: There's a piece of your threshold crest.
-
131:39 - 131:49(laughing and cheering)
-
131:49 - 131:51TALIESIN: Don't cast Friends on people. It's not
nice. -
131:51 - 131:57MATT: You watch as his ears, his pointed ears
slowly slink back and his hair stands up all -
131:57 - 132:03across the back of his head, his beard almost
bristles out into spines as the hat goes (poink) -
132:03 - 132:08and pops off and hits the ground. He snatches it
up. Grabs the piece. -
132:08 - 132:12TALIESIN: That's your threshold crest. Piece of a
threshold crest. -
132:12 - 132:14MATT: "Thank you."
-
132:14 - 132:16LAURA: Yay!
-
132:16 - 132:22MATT: "Well, it appears that our deal has been
kept." -
132:22 - 132:32(laughing and cheering)
-
132:32 - 132:42MATT: He snaps his fingers and you feel like this
sudden, this almost unnoticeable pressure at the -
132:42 - 132:51base of your neck that you had felt since you made
the deal release and absolve, on both of you. "All -
132:51 - 133:01"right, so. Well, at least I got the hat out of it.
So. The Shademirk, then? Come, follow me, grab -
133:01 - 133:03"your things." (laughs)
-
133:03 - 133:05MARISHA: Let's go.
-
133:05 - 133:07TALIESIN: I cannot wait.
-
133:07 - 133:14MATT: "Now." He vanishes. And Grog, you feel a
little tug on your finger to pull you forward. -
133:14 - 133:15TRAVIS: I fart.
-
133:15 - 133:20(laughter)
-
133:20 - 133:30MATT: "I had that coming. We now have even more of
a reason to make haste. This is a very small room, -
133:30 - 133:37"and I've been following behind him for quite some
time. Let's go. Now, quickly." And you see Grog -
133:37 - 133:40being pulled forward by the finger, and you guys
get the feeling that he's leading you out of the -
133:40 - 133:43city, invisible, by Grog's finger.
-
133:43 - 133:49TRAVIS: We're going this way. Follow me, chaps!
-
133:49 - 133:51MARISHA: Follow the finger.
-
133:51 - 133:52SAM: Are the guards following?
-
133:52 - 133:55MATT: The two guards are following, yes.
-
133:55 - 133:57LAURA: Woo, that was really fun.
-
133:57 - 134:00MARISHA: My hair is messed up.
-
134:00 - 134:01SAM: Good sesh.
-
134:01 - 134:04LAURA: Good. That was really...
-
134:04 - 134:05LIAM: Thanks, Grog.
-
134:05 - 134:17(laughter)
-
134:17 - 134:21LIAM: I feel loose as a goose. Let's go see this
bog. -
134:21 - 134:26MARISHA: And I transform into a goose and come out
as a goose. -
134:26 - 134:37MATT: "You-- (frustrated noise) Never mind." The
guards follow at a very healthy distance now, both -
134:37 - 134:40whispering to each other as they watch you walk.
-
134:40 - 134:45LAURA: I think we made a really good impression on
this city coming back. -
134:45 - 134:49TRAVIS: I'm going to kill you later.
-
134:49 - 134:55MATT: You guys are led back through the main
portion of Syngorn, towards the front gates where -
134:55 - 135:00the watchers reside. The doors are opened for you,
and you are escorted out the front gate, where the -
135:00 - 135:08guards very happily leave you to be. And both turn
around at each other and go, (heavy sigh) and they -
135:08 - 135:13walk back inside the confines of the outer
Syngorean wall. You guys are now back out in the -
135:13 - 135:22wilds of Syngorn, the finger tugs lead you out
past the front of the city, through the marshlike -
135:22 - 135:28mandrake fields that you initially traversed when
you made your way to Syngorn, and then find your -
135:28 - 135:33way back into the Ever-Shifting Grasses, heading
duskward, towards where -
135:33 - 135:35it seems the dusk sun will set.
-
135:35 - 135:36LAURA: Duskward.
-
135:36 - 135:37TALIESIN: Duskward.
-
135:37 - 135:39MARISHA: Always duskward.
-
135:39 - 135:41SAM: I hate that direction.
-
135:41 - 135:44MATT: There's also nightward, seaward, or
tangleward. Which would you prefer? -
135:44 - 135:45SAM: Are those different directions?
-
135:45 - 135:47MATT: Yes, those are different directions.
-
135:47 - 135:49LAURA: Tangleward? Did you say tangleward?
-
135:49 - 135:51MATT: Tangleward. It was mentioned before, yeah.
-
135:51 - 135:55LAURA: Oh. I just thought of the Disney movie and
I think I spaced out there. -
135:55 - 136:00MATT: I'm pretty sure that the people in the
Feywild haven't seen that. Not yet. They're -
136:00 - 136:05waiting for it to come out on Blu-Ray. All right.
So you make your way towards where the grasses get -
136:05 - 136:12heavy again, and you see Garmelie (foosh) once
again take visible form again and be like, "Ah, sorry, -
136:12 - 136:20"that concentration for a while really gets to you,
I'm so glad to be out of that stuffy place. So! -
136:20 - 136:26"Shall we?" Rights his hat. And even in righting
it, it's a little crooked to one side and he -
136:26 - 136:28begins marching duskward.
-
136:28 - 136:30LAURA: Onward to the theater!
-
136:30 - 136:35MATT: "No! No theater! We are avoiding the
theater! No." -
136:35 - 136:40TRAVIS: Garmelie, how far of a journey is it to
this bog? -
136:40 - 136:45MATT: "Say about four times since we met?"
-
136:45 - 136:47LAURA: Okay.
-
136:47 - 136:49TRAVIS: That doesn't mean anything to me.
-
136:49 - 136:51LAURA: Four times since we met.
-
136:51 - 136:56LIAM: I'm just curious, why are you so worried
about the theater? I love the theater. -
136:56 - 137:00MATT: "I have my reasons." And he continues
walking forward. -
137:00 - 137:03LIAM: Thanks, great. Good talk.
-
137:03 - 137:05LAURA: It's been 14 hours since we've met.
-
137:05 - 137:10SAM: Can we travel any faster than that? Can we
mist, can we tree, can we...? -
137:10 - 137:16LAURA: Wait a minute, you could-- if you know a
tree is-- that would be pretty stupid, to just pop -
137:16 - 137:23out of the cancerous tree, but if we know a tree
is there, couldn't you potentially -
137:23 - 137:25just fucking do it?
-
137:25 - 137:29LIAM: You've had a lot of good ideas. That's not
one of them. That's a bad idea. -
137:29 - 137:31MARISHA: She's not wrong.
-
137:31 - 137:35LAURA: Wait! Keyleth, what if you just open up the
cancerous tree, we reach through, we grab the -
137:35 - 137:37fucking bow, and then we're out.
-
137:37 - 137:44MARISHA: Well, you're not entirely wrong, I don't
know if I can Teleport via Plants because -
137:44 - 137:55generally that takes knowing the plant. However, I
do have Tree Stride, which means we can-- nope, -
137:55 - 137:58never mind, I can only do that on myself.
-
137:58 - 138:00MATT: Wah-wah.
-
138:00 - 138:10TALIESIN: We are not sending Keyleth the goose
into a bog to retrieve a bow from an angry -
138:10 - 138:12cancerous tree.
-
138:12 - 138:13MARISHA: But I'm loosey! I'm a loosey goose.
-
138:13 - 138:16MATT: That would look amazing on an epitaph, I'm
just saying. -
138:16 - 138:18MARISHA: We can mist there.
-
138:18 - 138:20SAM: Would that save time, I don't remember how
fast we go. -
138:20 - 138:22MARISHA: I might have to take a hot nap.
-
138:22 - 138:24TRAVIS: A hot nap?
-
138:24 - 138:25MARISHA: Yeah.
-
138:25 - 138:26MATT: Didn't you guys just take a hot nap?
-
138:26 - 138:35(laughter)
-
138:35 - 138:42MARISHA: Yeah. The answer is yes. I can do all those
things. -
138:42 - 138:45TALIESIN: Well, let's travel for a bit and then
we'll take a proper break. -
138:45 - 138:49MARISHA: If we can get to the edge of the bog,
then we'll take a sleep. -
138:49 - 138:52LAURA: Wait, I think the edge of the bog is kind
of far, though. -
138:52 - 138:57TALIESIN: We'll start our journey, and the next
leg of our journey. -
138:57 - 138:58TRAVIS: Yeah, let's get going.
-
138:58 - 138:59MARISHA: We'll go until we're tired.
-
138:59 - 139:02MATT: "I like the sound of that."
-
139:02 - 139:04LAURA: Oh. (belches)
-
139:04 - 139:15(laughing and cheering)
-
139:15 - 139:18MATT: "Most impressive for a lady."
-
139:18 - 139:23LAURA: Thank you. That's a baroness burp.
-
139:23 - 139:26MARISHA: Robert Durst shit.
-
139:26 - 139:35MATT: As you guys push on further northward at the
behest of Garmelie, you push for another two hours -
139:35 - 139:40or so through the Ever-Shifting Grasses, and as
you get further and further north, the color of -
139:40 - 139:47the grass seems to go from that deep verdant green
to almost a maroon purplish color. -
139:47 - 139:51LAURA: I pop Trinket out of the necklace.
-
139:51 - 139:53MATT: He attacks some of the grass and chews it
up. -
139:53 - 139:54LAURA: Yeah, get it!
-
139:54 - 139:59MARISHA: Don't touch the grass, it'll get angry at
you! It'll yell at you for a week! -
139:59 - 140:01TRAVIS: I don't think that applies here.
-
140:01 - 140:07LAURA: It's okay, darling. It's okay. Keyleth.
-
140:07 - 140:08MARISHA: What?
-
140:08 - 140:09LAURA: Do not yell at my bear.
-
140:09 - 140:11MARISHA: I was just trying to protect him.
-
140:11 - 140:12LIAM: I give him some grass.
-
140:12 - 140:13MARISHA: Don't!
-
140:13 - 140:14SAM: It's fine.
-
140:14 - 140:16TALIESIN: It's fine.
-
140:16 - 140:20MATT: And just keeps going forward through the
grass fields. -
140:20 - 140:22MARISHA: Does the grass seem angry?
-
140:22 - 140:23MATT: No, it just seems to be changing color.
-
140:23 - 140:25MARISHA: Suck it, grass!
-
140:25 - 140:31MATT: As you say that, the grass goes from a
purplish color to a deep, deep red around you. -
140:31 - 140:33SAM: Oh god.
-
140:33 - 140:41MARISHA: Because you... suck out the joy of all of
us living around you, and you're so amazing. -
140:41 - 140:43TRAVIS: That makes it even worse.
-
140:43 - 140:44SAM: Not a compliment.
-
140:44 - 140:45TRAVIS: You're still going in the same direction.
-
140:45 - 140:48MARISHA: I mean, you suck out bad--
-
140:48 - 140:51LIAM: I grab Keyleth's hand. Let's take a walk.
-
140:51 - 140:55MATT: All of you, as you're walking, the actual
grasses around you are getting more and more dense -
140:55 - 140:58and are catching on your feet and you're finding
that your progression -
140:58 - 141:00is getting slower and slower.
-
141:00 - 141:06LAURA: Wait, no. I have Landstride, which means I
don't slow against any land. -
141:06 - 141:11MATT: Yeah, so you're fine, you just coast ahead.
The rest of the party, it's like they're going -
141:11 - 141:16through waist-high thickets. The grass looks
gentle, but as soon as it hits your body, it rakes -
141:16 - 141:22across it almost like very fine serrated plants,
and it's catching on your clothing and pulling you -
141:22 - 141:25back. It's almost like since those statements were
made... -
141:25 - 141:31(laughter)
-
141:31 - 141:36TRAVIS: I have a hooded lantern. I could set this
whole fucking thing ablaze. -
141:36 - 141:38ALL: No!
-
141:38 - 141:42MATT: The red goes to a deep cinder-like red.
-
141:42 - 141:44SAM: Are we going to have roll initiative on
grass? -
141:44 - 141:47LAURA: No, wait.
-
141:47 - 141:50TALIESIN: Does no one-- I'm going to take a
moment. -
141:50 - 141:52MARISHA: I feel like the grass feels our
emotions. -
141:52 - 141:56SAM: Your emotions. Because you yelled at it.
-
141:56 - 142:03TALIESIN: Lovely field, I apologize for the
rudeness of my compatriots. We will be gentle -
142:03 - 142:09trouncing through you. We will make as little mark
as we can and enjoy the splendor of your -
142:09 - 142:17ever-changing colors. You are majestic, you are
windswept-- I'm flirting with grass-- you are -
142:17 - 142:21everything I could hope for in a beautiful view.
-
142:21 - 142:22SAM: I sing a song.
-
142:22 - 142:23MATT: What do you sing?
-
142:23 - 142:27(cheering)
-
142:27 - 142:39SAM: (singing) Keep growing. Keep flowing, knowing
you can always count on me. -
142:39 - 142:42TRAVIS, LAURA, and SAM: (singing) For sure.
-
142:42 - 142:44SAM: (singing) That's what Scanlan's for.
-
142:44 - 142:50(cheering)
-
142:50 - 142:53MATT: Percy, I want you to make a persuasion check
against the grass? -
142:53 - 142:59Adding the d10 inspiration die.
-
142:59 - 143:01TALIESIN: Oh, d10 inspiration. Come on.
-
143:01 - 143:03MARISHA: I do an interpretive dance.
-
143:03 - 143:04SAM: Come on, persuade that plant.
-
143:04 - 143:06TALIESIN: That was leaning.
-
143:06 - 143:07SAM: That was a leaner.
-
143:07 - 143:14TALIESIN: That jumped, but that's still fine,
okay, it's. Persuasion check? Oh yeah, that's not -
143:14 - 143:18bad. 24.
-
143:18 - 143:19MATT: What was it?
-
143:19 - 143:25TALIESIN: Eight plus six plus seven. (counting)
21. -
143:25 - 143:28SAM: It's more than that.
-
143:28 - 143:34MATT: Between the interpretive dance of Keyleth
amongst the tattered angry grasses, the beautiful -
143:34 - 143:41vocal stylings of Scanlan Shorthalt, and Percy
speaking out a wondrous poem towards the -
143:41 - 143:48Ever-Shifting Grasses, you watch as the deep
bright red subsides into the relaxed purple, and -
143:48 - 143:54eventually goes back to a dull green, and you find
your traveling no longer impeded as it once was. -
143:54 - 143:55LAURA: Yeah.
-
143:55 - 143:56MATT: Good job!
-
143:56 - 143:58LAURA: Good job!
-
143:58 - 144:03MATT: You successfully parlayed with a field.
-
144:03 - 144:07TRAVIS: First doors, then grass.
-
144:07 - 144:13LIAM: Don't talk shit to grass!
-
144:13 - 144:16SAM: How do you want to mow this?
-
144:16 - 144:24(laughter)
-
144:24 - 144:32MATT: So. About another half an hour of travel
before in the distance ahead of you can see the -
144:32 - 144:38dark edge of what looks to be another forest ahead
of you, wide and almost end-to-end, you see it. A -
144:38 - 144:42lot of these wooded areas almost meet the horizon,
it's like you're stepping into just an endless -
144:42 - 144:49wall of trees. As you begin to approach closer to
the edge, Garmelie looks up and says, "All right. -
144:49 - 144:56"So we have choices now. We have the Moonbrush
before us, or we have the Green Sea, which is far -
144:56 - 144:59"seaward of here. I would recommend the
Moonbrush." -
144:59 - 145:03SAM: Then we should go the other way. Because we
don't trust a fucking thing you say. -
145:04 - 145:05MATT: "Very well."
-
145:05 - 145:06LAURA: Wait.
-
145:06 - 145:08TALIESIN: No, the High Warden did say--
-
145:08 - 145:10MARISHA: -- to avoid the Green Sea.
-
145:10 - 145:12LAURA: Why do you recommend the Moonbrush?
-
145:12 - 145:15MATT: "Because it's the only real route to get to
the Gilded Run." -
145:15 - 145:17LAURA: What is the Gilded Run?
-
145:17 - 145:19MATT: "The Gilded Run are the rivers that surround
it." -
145:19 - 145:20LAURA: Right, those.
-
145:20 - 145:26MATT: "Yes. You're looking for the Shademirk. You
have to get through the Gilded Run to get the -
145:26 - 145:30"Shademirk. You have to go through the Moonbrush to
get to the Gilded Run." -
145:30 - 145:31LIAM: Where's the theater?
-
145:31 - 145:35MATT: "No theater!"
-
145:35 - 145:41TRAVIS: Right, so we're going through the brushy
moon? -
145:41 - 145:42MATT: "Yes! Come, come."
-
145:42 - 145:44LAURA: Yeah? Are you okay with that, Scanlan?
-
145:44 - 145:46SAM: I'll allow it.
-
145:46 - 145:49MARISHA: How long have we been awake?
-
145:49 - 145:56MATT: You are... you've been awake for about 12
hours now, I'd say. -
145:56 - 146:05MARISHA: If we want to mist there, then we have to
sleep. But we'll press on for a few more hours. -
146:05 - 146:09MATT: Certainly. About another 40 minutes of foot
travel before you begin to hit the edge of the -
146:09 - 146:16Moonbrush Forest. As you approach, Garmelie says,
"All right, so things you should know about the -
146:16 - 146:21"Moonbrush. One: it is home to a number of
denizens." And as you look overhead, you can see -
146:21 - 146:28it's a thick fog that permeates the entirety of
this forest. You can see the outline of every tree -
146:28 - 146:34trunk towards the outer rim of this entire brush.
The canopy of the trees themselves are like long -
146:34 - 146:41weeping willows that sag and give this very
ominous feeling to the entire forest. You can see -
146:41 - 146:46small mountain spires breaking through portions of
the tree line in the distance occasionally, miles -
146:46 - 146:56between each other, sometimes a cluster far closer
together. He says, "There is a clan of sorts that -
146:56 - 147:01"lives amongst the forest, we'll try our best to
avoid. They are natural hunters and they are of -
147:01 - 147:06"the lycan persuasion."
-
147:06 - 147:09SAM and TALIESIN: Oh.
-
147:09 - 147:19MATT: "So, best that we avoid interaction. They
are well-read, they have a society; we should -
147:19 - 147:21"touch none of it."
-
147:21 - 147:27MARISHA: Question. You mentioned we are going into
the Moonbrush with lycan hunters? -
147:27 - 147:29MATT: "Yes. It's a necessity."
-
147:29 - 147:31MARISHA: Yeah, no, it sounds like it. Yeah.
-
147:31 - 147:38MATT: "Yes. But they do have natural enemies.
There is a faction of pixies that live within, -
147:38 - 147:44"known as the Wishers, and they are forever locked
in a struggle. So avoid both, do not get involved -
147:44 - 147:46"at all, and we'll be fine."
-
147:46 - 147:56LAURA: Do the lycan tend to populate trees, or if
we stay up high can we maybe avoid them? -
147:56 - 147:59MATT: "Actually, they travel mostly in the trees.
That's the easiest way for them -
147:59 - 148:00"to hunt, is unseen."
-
148:00 - 148:02LAURA: Well, there you go.
-
148:02 - 148:13MATT: "They are ruled by a singular lycan lord,
who goes by the name of Ukurat." -
148:13 - 148:14MARISHA: What?
-
148:14 - 148:16SAM: Ulurat?
-
148:16 - 148:17MATT: "Ukurat."
-
148:17 - 148:18MARISHA: Ukurat.
-
148:18 - 148:21LAURA: Ukurat or Udurat?
-
148:21 - 148:22MATT: "Ukurat."
-
148:22 - 148:23LAURA and LIAM: Ukurat.
-
148:23 - 148:26MATT: "U-K-U-R-A-T."
-
148:26 - 148:28TRAVIS: Bob.
-
148:28 - 148:29MATT: "He is to also be avoided."
-
148:29 - 148:32TALIESIN: Is that an elven name? Is that an elven
word? -
148:32 - 148:33MATT: "It was, once."
-
148:33 - 148:37LAURA: Wait, he used to be elven? He used to be
elven. -
148:37 - 148:43MATT: "They all used to be many things. He
happened to be elven at one time, yes? So. Anyway. -
148:43 - 148:46"We'll avoid them, and avoid the Wishers, and also
those things, -
148:46 - 148:48"the little plants that you saw before?"
-
148:48 - 148:49LAURA: Mandrakes?
-
148:49 - 148:51MATT: "Mandrakes? Also everywhere. Avoid them."
-
148:51 - 148:52LAURA: Okay.
-
148:52 - 148:57MATT: "And we'll just avoid the other things I
mentioned, so. Shall we?" And he begins to step -
148:57 - 148:59and march up to the edge of the Moonbrush.
-
148:59 - 149:01TALIESIN: Okay.
-
149:01 - 149:04SAM: It's fine. We've killed dragons, we'll be fine.
-
149:04 - 149:06TRAVIS: I'm so stoked right now.
-
149:06 - 149:12MARISHA: Did we-- okay, yeah. Sure. Yeah.
-
149:12 - 149:21MATT: All right. You guys make your way into the
dark Moonbrush itself and as you walk into the -
149:21 - 149:27forest, immediately you can hear the swell of
distant crickets, thousands upon thousands, -
149:27 - 149:30sourceless, fill the air around you.
-
149:30 - 149:32SAM: Audience, please.
-
149:32 - 149:35(cricket noises, laughter)
-
149:35 - 149:39MATT: That works, I was going to look for cricket
sounds here. That's also totally doable. -
149:39 - 149:42MARISHA: Someone's got a really good one.
-
149:42 - 149:49MATT: As you walk in, the actual dusk light that
has permeated the Feywild begins to give way to -
149:49 - 149:55the first signs of night. You can look up through
the different breaks in the tree line, you can see -
149:55 - 150:00stars for the first time. And you can see what
looks to be a very dull white glow of moonlight -
150:00 - 150:07hitting some of the trees and breaking through
some of the treetops themselves. The underbrush -
150:07 - 150:17itself is very soft and spongy, with a lot of
leaves that have fallen and given this soft setup. -
150:17 - 150:27As you guys push forward for another half-hour or
so, you in particular, Vex'ahlia, come upon what -
150:27 - 150:35looks to be a series of stones, what looks to be a
series of small structures, almost. Not like -
150:35 - 150:46buildings per se, but intently placed obelisks of
raw, rough stone. And as you come across and look -
150:46 - 150:50on that side, you can see what looks to be the
base of one of the mountain spires that sticks -
150:50 - 150:51out, a large cave.
-
150:51 - 150:55LAURA: Do I see any kind of markings on the
obelisks? -
150:55 - 151:00MATT: Make a perception check.
-
151:00 - 151:05LAURA: Oh. Get out of here!
-
151:05 - 151:07MATT: What'd you get?
-
151:07 - 151:07LAURA: Natural one.
-
151:07 - 151:08MATT: Natural one.
-
151:08 - 151:10LAURA: I know!
-
151:10 - 151:17MATT: They just look rough and old. They've been
placed there. It's old magic. -
151:17 - 151:20LIAM: God, you're so bad at D&D!
-
151:20 - 151:21LAURA: I suck!
-
151:21 - 151:26MATT: But you do see around the ground right out
in front of this cave what appears to be hundreds -
151:26 - 151:33and hundreds of small objects, piles, what looks
like fruits and flowers and bones and stone -
151:33 - 151:37carvings, all sorts of things placed in front of
this cave. -
151:37 - 151:40MARISHA: Can I do a nature check on one of the
bones to see if I can identify -
151:40 - 151:41where it came from?
-
151:41 - 151:45MATT: Okay. So you head out and take one of the
bones and look at it. -
151:45 - 151:46Go ahead and make a nature check.
-
151:46 - 151:50MARISHA: Yeah, the closest bone, I don't want to,
ooh. Yeah. -
151:50 - 151:52TALIESIN: That ain't nothing to sneeze at.
-
151:52 - 151:55MARISHA: No, it's not. 28.
-
151:55 - 152:04MATT: 28. This bone belongs to a larger bird, like
a great eagle, you can't quite specifically make out -
152:04 - 152:08what it is, but it's been carved with
small letters into it of a language you can't -
152:08 - 152:12understand. It looks like it's some sort of a
ritual item that's been placed there in the -
152:12 - 152:16ground. But as you pick up and make this moment
noticed-- -
152:16 - 152:18LIAM: I'm going stealth just because.
-
152:18 - 152:21MATT: You all hear a giant, echoing roar coming
from the cave. -
152:21 - 152:22LIAM: Was I fast enough?
-
152:22 - 152:25MATT: (roars) What'd you roll?
-
152:25 - 152:26LIAM: 30.
-
152:26 - 152:33MATT: 30. Okay, yeah. You just (bip) out; you are
gone. The rest of you are right at the outside of -
152:33 - 152:38this small clearing where all of these small
objects have been placed, you hear this rumbling -
152:38 - 152:40loud roar come tearing through.
-
152:40 - 152:43MARISHA: I step back with the bone.
-
152:43 - 152:46MATT: Okay. What are the rest of you guys doing?
-
152:46 - 152:48LAURA: I pull the broom out from behind my back.
-
152:48 - 152:49MATT: Okay.
-
152:49 - 152:54MARISHA: Can I lean the bone over to Vex'ahlia and
be like, is this Draconic? -
152:54 - 152:55LAURA: Is it Draconic?
-
152:55 - 152:57MATT: It is not Draconic.
-
152:57 - 152:58MARISHA: God fucking damn it.
-
152:58 - 153:00LAURA: Is it anything that I recognize, though?
-
153:00 - 153:01MATT: What languages do you know?
-
153:01 - 153:05LAURA: Elvish, Abyssal, Undercommon.
-
153:05 - 153:07MATT: No, none of those.
-
153:07 - 153:08LAURA: Shit.
-
153:08 - 153:11MATT: However, at this time the trees behind you
two, because the rest of you guys -
153:11 - 153:12were staying back--
-
153:12 - 153:13LAURA: Who's you two?
-
153:13 - 153:19MATT: Vex and Keyleth. The trees (fwoosh) shift
and close off the exterior. As you turn towards -
153:19 - 153:25the entrance of the cavern, you can see emerging
from the front a giant-- it's hard to really tell -
153:25 - 153:33the first moment that it appears, but you see what
looks to be a gargantuan dire bear-like entity -
153:33 - 153:40made of crackling blue ghostly energy, shimmering,
translucent, not actually a physical form, but -
153:40 - 153:48massive in size. (stomping noises, roar)
-
153:48 - 153:53MARISHA: Wait, did we get cut off? Did Vex and I
get cut off from everybody else? -
153:53 - 153:55MATT: Yep. From everybody else.
-
153:55 - 153:57LAURA: Shit! I grab Keyleth's wrist and I fly into
the air. -
153:57 - 154:00MARISHA: I hold on for dear fucking life.
-
154:00 - 154:04MATT: As you grab her wrist as you fly up, the
trees, swoosh, close off and you go slamming into -
154:04 - 154:09the tree boughs (crashing sound). You lose the
broom for a second. Go ahead and hold your grip. -
154:09 - 154:12Go ahead and make a strength check.
-
154:12 - 154:13LAURA: A strength check!
-
154:13 - 154:14SAM: We can't even see them, Matt?
-
154:14 - 154:17MATT: You guys can't see them and they just closed
off in the trees. -
154:17 - 154:24LAURA: Come on! Is that a saving throw or just a
check? -
154:24 - 154:25MATT: Just a check.
-
154:25 - 154:26LAURA: Five.
-
154:26 - 154:33MATT: Five? You lose your grip on the broom, and
both Vex and Keyleth tumble down about 20 feet, -
154:33 - 154:38you both suffer seven points of damage as you slam
into the center of another pile of what looks like -
154:38 - 154:41knick-knacks and things that are gathered on the
floor. It's at this point that your mind hits that -
154:41 - 154:45these are probably offerings, these are things
that are left as some sort of offering to this -
154:45 - 154:51bear-like spirit entity that exists in this cave.
The bear, which is now, (stomping sounds), coming -
154:51 - 154:56up towards you on the ground. Looks to Keyleth,
(roars). -
154:56 - 154:57MARISHA: Hi!
-
154:57 - 154:58LAURA: I cast Speak With Animals!
-
154:58 - 154:59MATT: Okay, you cast Speak With Animals.
-
154:59 - 155:00LAURA: Yeah.
-
155:00 - 155:02MARISHA: Like I taught you!
-
155:02 - 155:03LAURA: (weak growling sounds)
-
155:03 - 155:11(laughter)
-
155:11 - 155:17LAURA: And I say, we mean you no harm, great ghost
bear! In fact, we brought you an offering and we -
155:17 - 155:20just accidentally touched the other offering of
yours. -
155:20 - 155:22LIAM: Où est la bibliothèque?
-
155:22 - 155:24(laughter)
-
155:24 - 155:26LAURA: The cheese is old and moldy.
-
155:26 - 155:36MATT: None of the bear's face moves at all, but an
echoing voice, in Common, not animal speak, comes -
155:36 - 155:41blasting into both of your minds, and those of you
guys outside of the trees, trying to find a way -
155:41 - 155:52through, also hear this echo, "You have entered
the domain of Orlan. You destroy and disgrace that -
155:52 - 156:00"which was gifted. What do you offer in response to
your travesty?" -
156:00 - 156:03LAURA: Yeah, well, I--
-
156:03 - 156:06SAM: We have a hat. A really good hat.
-
156:06 - 156:09MARISHA: I've got an old tobacco box I got from
lost and found. -
156:09 - 156:19LAURA: Ooh, yeah, that's pretty good. I offer him
a tea set. -
156:19 - 156:27MATT: As you pull the tea set out, the bear claw
reaches out and smashes it out of your hand and -
156:27 - 156:34goes scattered and breaking across one of the
stones and goes, "You walk into the realm of the -
156:34 - 156:42"wild, unwatched, unrespecting. The beasts of this
land hold no kinship with you. You will prove -
156:42 - 156:45"offering yourself." And the tongue licks the
lips. -
156:45 - 156:51MARISHA: What? I turn into a giant scorpion.
-
156:51 - 156:54MATT: The scorpion takes its form, as it does the
bear, (growls). -
156:54 - 156:59MARISHA: You want an offering, you can have mine.
-
156:59 - 157:01MATT: Make a persuasion check on that.
-
157:01 - 157:03MARISHA: Oh god.
-
157:03 - 157:08LIAM: By the way, am I hidden in or outside?
-
157:08 - 157:09MATT: You're outside.
-
157:09 - 157:10MARISHA: 21.
-
157:10 - 157:11LAURA: Good job, Keyleth!
-
157:11 - 157:12MARISHA: Thank you!
-
157:12 - 157:20MATT: "I sense you have kinship with beasts. You
may pass, though I will not forgive this -
157:20 - 157:23"infraction. You."
-
157:23 - 157:24LAURA: Yeah?
-
157:24 - 157:26MATT: "You shall be the prize."
-
157:26 - 157:28LAURA: Oh, fuck.
-
157:28 - 157:33MATT: The giant bear is looming over you now, and
its size is so immense, probably 15 or 20 feet to the -
157:33 - 157:34top of its shoulders.
-
157:34 - 157:37LAURA: Trinket! I call Trinket.
-
157:37 - 157:38MATT: You call Trinket?
-
157:38 - 157:39LAURA: I call Trinket.
-
157:39 - 157:44MATT: Leaps out of your necklace and lands right
beside you and just roars, (roars) up to the -
157:44 - 157:52spirit. The spirit pulls back, (roars), roars
back. And Trinket is so tiny by comparison and is -
157:52 - 157:58up to the elbow, but Trinket lashes out at the
giant bear, just leaps up towards it, pushes into -
157:58 - 158:03it and starts tearing at its throat. The giant
bear takes Trinket with one claw and slams him -
158:03 - 158:08into the ground. Trinket rolls and gets back up,
(growls), you can see a little bit of blood at the -
158:08 - 158:12corner of its mouth, and just lunges again, this
time jumping up onto the bear's back and clawing -
158:12 - 158:17up onto its, onto the top of its torso. The bear
(growls). -
158:17 - 158:19LAURA: He's pretty cool.
-
158:19 - 158:25MATT: The bear head looks up at Trinket now
gnawing onto its hide, (gnawing sounds), seemingly -
158:25 - 158:31to no real effect, and the bear reaches up and
grabs Trinket and plucks him off the side and sets -
158:31 - 158:38him down next to you. The bear now begins to speak
in the language of bears, which only you can -
158:38 - 158:47understand at this moment, says, "You walk with
this one. Is she your charge?" And Trinket voices -
158:47 - 158:55back, you hear the (bear noises) up to the bear,
as you hear coming out, "She is everything. Her -
158:55 - 159:04"life is mine. You take her, you take me, or we
walk on and remember you as a kind soul." -
159:04 - 159:19The giant bear looks down, "Very well. If you are
at her side, I take your charge, as well." And the -
159:19 - 159:25spirit bear steps forward, passing through you,
and passing through Trinket's form, and what feels -
159:25 - 159:32like this rush of warm air. And then disperses
into a series of sparkles. You watch the energy -
159:32 - 159:38slowly drift down and fade into the ground around
you, and everything gets quiet. The trees slowly -
159:38 - 159:46creak back and open the perimeter of this forest
around you, leaving you alone. And Trinket comes -
159:46 - 159:49up and licks your face.
-
159:49 - 159:50LAURA: Oh!
-
159:50 - 159:59(cheering)
-
159:59 - 160:03MATT: As he's looking at you, you look down and
you can see the necklace that you hold is actually -
160:03 - 160:10shimmering with a blue light that passed through
you, and it slowly fades to its dark normal form. -
160:10 - 160:17SAM: You're part bear now!
-
160:17 - 160:20MATT: So. That's your new item card for Raven's
Slumber. -
160:20 - 160:24(cheering)
-
160:24 - 160:26AUDIENCE MEMBER: What's it do?
-
160:26 - 160:28LAURA: I don't know.
-
160:28 - 160:34MATT: So. I've got to finish this quickly because
we've got to get to the Q and A, but as of this -
160:34 - 160:39point in time, and I'll give you an ability card,
but Trinket now benefits from your Hunter's Mark. -
160:39 - 160:43(cheering)
-
160:43 - 160:47MATT: And has an ability called Primal Fury you
can use once per short rest that I'll get to next -
160:47 - 160:59episode. As you all gather around this moment of
silence, this quiet tension that has now -
160:59 - 161:05dispersed, you see Trinket lift up Vex from the
base of her cloak and put her back on her feet, -
161:05 - 161:10nuzzles the side of her, and you can see the trees
overhead open up a little wider than they were -
161:10 - 161:15before, leaving some moonlight to hit the two of
them. And that's where we'll go ahead and leave -
161:15 - 161:16this session this week.
-
161:16 - 161:23(cheering)
-
161:23 - 161:27MATT: Thank you, guys!
-
161:27 - 161:45(cheering)
-
161:45 - 161:47AUDIENCE MEMBER: Is it Thursday yet?
