0:09 - 0:11Amira Osman Hamid
-

0:14 - 0:15in computer engineering
-
0:15 - 0:16I’m doing an M.A. in international relations
-
0:16 - 0:18at Khartoum University
-
0:18 - 0:23I was detained on June 27 at 6 p.m.
-
0:23 - 0:29About 4 security pickup trucks, a mini-bus
-
0:29 - 0:33and two saloon cars came to my house
-
0:33 - 0:36they asked from the outside that I come out for them
-
0:36 - 0:37I was in the bathroom
-
0:37 - 0:39When I came in they had entered the house
-
0:39 - 0:45About 15 to 20 security persons
-
0:45 - 0:47they told me to go out to meet their lieutenant
-
0:47 - 0:50when I went out I didn’t find a lieutenant
-
0:50 - 0:52but there was a mini-bus filled with about 12 persons
-
0:52 - 0:55who were guests in the house, neighbours,
-
0:55 - 0:57the laborers working in the house
-
0:57 - 1:00and anyone just passing by
-
1:00 - 1:03approximately it was about 12 persons
-
1:03 - 1:09they took us to street 57 in Amarat
-
1:09 - 1:12this was until midnight approximately
-
1:12 - 1:14after that they took us to Shendi
-
1:14 - 1:19the bad and terrible treatment was in street 57
-
1:19 - 1:22where they threatened me
-
1:22 - 1:25to take off my clothes and bring my brother
-
1:25 - 1:30if I don’t answer all their questions
-
1:30 - 1:38I did not react to that and they did not insist on that a lot
-
1:38 - 1:42they hit me in street 57
-
1:42 - 1:47after that there wasn’t any beating,
-
1:47 - 1:50but there was a new form of torture
-
1:50 - 1:55they put us in a parking lot in Bahari
-
1:55 - 1:58we were there for 2 full days
-
1:58 - 2:03facing the wall with no sleep and no lying down
-
2:03 - 2:07until one of the soldiers felt sorry for us and got us canvas bags to sit on
-
2:07 - 2:13they made us sit on uncomfortable chairs
-
2:13 - 2:19this was during the first day and all of the second day
-
2:19 - 2:23at the end of the second day in “respect to the Muslim woman”
-
2:23 - 2:30they took us to an office and we sat there, because they don’t “degrade women”
-
2:30 - 2:33after having thrown us in a parking lot for two days
-
2:33 - 2:39it’s something that gives you a feeling that you are a stray dog
-
2:39 - 2:43after that they took us to the prison
-
2:43 - 2:46in the prison in Bahari
-
2:46 - 2:50the new form of torture is the psychological torture
-
2:50 - 2:54now they stopped the physical torture
-
2:54 - 2:58and I see that one can overcome physical torture if one is ready for it mentally
-
2:58 - 3:03but this psychological torture is a new strategy or idea
-
3:03 - 3:04that they are now working with
-
3:04 - 3:07so people should be aware of that
-
3:07 - 3:10the one thing I got out of this detention with
-
3:10 - 3:15is that it is a fear barrier that has broken
-
3:15 - 3:17it does not mean that I want to be detained again
-
3:17 - 3:21but it is just a fact
-
3:21 - 3:27what I say is that the regime is going to fall
-
3:27 - 3:31and things will go as people want them to go
-
3:31 - 3:34people should not give up
-
3:34 - 3:37but make use of the residue of experiences
-
3:37 - 3:40know where and how they have made mistakes
-
3:40 - 3:42and try to improve on those mistakes for the next times
-
3:42 -and for sure there is going to be next times
