Amira Osman Hamid
I graduated from the college of technical sciences,
in computer engineering
I’m doing an M.A. in international relations
at Khartoum University
I was detained on June 27 at 6 p.m.
About 4 security pickup trucks, a mini-bus
and two saloon cars came to my house
they asked from the outside that I come out for them
I was in the bathroom
When I came in they had entered the house
About 15 to 20 security persons
they told me to go out to meet their lieutenant
when I went out I didn’t find a lieutenant
but there was a mini-bus filled with about 12 persons
who were guests in the house, neighbours,
the laborers working in the house
and anyone just passing by
approximately it was about 12 persons
they took us to street 57 in Amarat
this was until midnight approximately
after that they took us to Shendi
the bad and terrible treatment was in street 57
where they threatened me
to take off my clothes and bring my brother
if I don’t answer all their questions
I did not react to that and they did not insist on that a lot
they hit me in street 57
after that there wasn’t any beating,
but there was a new form of torture
they put us in a parking lot in Bahari
we were there for 2 full days
facing the wall with no sleep and no lying down
until one of the soldiers felt sorry for us and got us canvas bags to sit on
they made us sit on uncomfortable chairs
this was during the first day and all of the second day
at the end of the second day in “respect to the Muslim woman”
they took us to an office and we sat there, because they don’t “degrade women”
after having thrown us in a parking lot for two days
it’s something that gives you a feeling that you are a stray dog
after that they took us to the prison
in the prison in Bahari
the new form of torture is the psychological torture
now they stopped the physical torture
and I see that one can overcome physical torture if one is ready for it mentally
but this psychological torture is a new strategy or idea
that they are now working with
so people should be aware of that
the one thing I got out of this detention with
is that it is a fear barrier that has broken
it does not mean that I want to be detained again
but it is just a fact
what I say is that the regime is going to fall
and things will go as people want them to go
people should not give up
but make use of the residue of experiences
know where and how they have made mistakes
and try to improve on those mistakes for the next times
and for sure there is going to be next times
