Social Science Scholarship

  • 0:04 - 0:07
Hello everyone, my name is Jessie Tia and
  • 0:07 - 0:11
I'm the contestant to the social
    sciences scholarship.
  • 0:11 - 0:14
    You guys wanna introduce yourself?
  • 0:14 - 0:18
    >> Hi, my name is Emily Monroe and
    I am a friend of
  • 0:18 - 0:23
    Jessie Hello,
my name is Josephine whites and
  • 0:23 - 0:28
I'm a friend of GC also
    a member of SSV committees.
  • 0:29 - 0:33
    >> So today I'm going to be
    discussing with Anna Lee and
  • 0:33 - 0:36
    Josep
    >> The new cultural
  • 0:36 - 0:39
gap that has been occurring lately
even though it has been going on for
  • 0:39 - 0:45
a while, it's been more predominant
over the past couple months to a year.
  • 0:45 - 0:48
So I just wanted to take
    you ladies opinions
  • 0:48 - 0:53
on what do you think has been happening
with our Society in our culture,
  • 0:53 - 0:57
there we have been experiencing this
cultural gap in our society where there
  • 0:57 - 1:03
has been we versus they and
    a lot of separation basically.
  • 1:03 - 1:09
So any ideas why this is happening why
people have been feeling that Well,
  • 1:09 - 1:15
a big one has to be the Black Lives Matter
movement which has been occurring for
  • 1:15 - 1:18
since the beginning of year I believe.
  • 1:18 - 1:23
    And the purpose of this
    was to demonstrate that
  • 1:23 - 1:30
certain type of wives is Being targeted
and a lot of people don't see it that way.
  • 1:30 - 1:34
And that's kind of like what's kind of
splitting us up which is like the gap that
  • 1:34 - 1:39
I could say because it is
    something that is occurring and
  • 1:39 - 1:42
    it's still occurring because there's
    people protesting still there's still
  • 1:42 - 1:47
people who are on social media
    saying that this is happening.
  • 1:47 - 1:48
    This is happening.
  • 1:48 - 1:53
But others believe that it's not a huge
issue that it's not something that we
  • 1:53 - 1:57
should pay attention to because obviously
with the elections crew now they wanna
  • 1:57 - 2:02
focus on that but the Black Lives Matter
movement has to deal with the elections
  • 2:02 - 2:08
and that's like a huge issue that many
of the candidates are talking about,
  • 2:08 - 2:13
and with, with their own views everyone
the right with their own opinion
  • 2:13 - 2:17
It's kind of like splitting us up
because we should like be united and
  • 2:17 - 2:21
be able to be friends no
    matter what political view,
  • 2:21 - 2:26
    no matter what gender, race,
    or sexuality you have.
  • 2:26 - 2:31
It's all about being united, but
right now, it's what's keeping us apart.
  • 2:32 - 2:33
    My opinion.
  • 2:33 - 2:35
    >> Right, right.
  • 2:35 - 2:38
I agree with you that Lot
    of things socially like
  • 2:38 - 2:46
    race,religion,sexuality.Ethnicities even
    has been like
  • 2:46 - 2:51
impacting our culture and our society
greatly and it's causing that gap and
  • 2:51 - 2:57
it sucks because We're all the same
at one point like we're all human.
  • 2:57 - 3:03
So just so awful to see that that's
causing an issue in our society.
  • 3:03 - 3:05
Josephine, do you have anything to add?
  • 3:05 - 3:06
    >> Yeah
    >> Like,
  • 3:06 - 3:10
I totally agree with what analysts say.
  • 3:10 - 3:14
And I also think that we have to
talk about it like first we have to
  • 3:14 - 3:15
    talk about it.
  • 3:15 - 3:19
    And second,
I think like we have to accept it because.
  • 3:19 - 3:23
    >> When we don't accept it is
    when labdoo problem comes from.
  • 3:23 - 3:27
We have to accept that there
    is no equality, in gender,
  • 3:27 - 3:30
in race, in sexuality, as you said.
  • 3:30 - 3:34
And the third I think we have to educate,
    ourselves.
  • 3:34 - 3:38
educate people who don't know educate
    people who don't understand, so
  • 3:38 - 3:41
    that we can all together,
    find solution and.
  • 3:43 - 3:44
    Become friends.
  • 3:44 - 3:47
    >> Yes.
    >> Right be the loving human so
  • 3:47 - 3:49
    we're supposed to be.
  • 3:49 - 3:50
    >> Exactly this.
  • 3:50 - 3:55
We're gonna bring this brings up my
second question is how can we so
  • 3:55 - 3:58
how can we change these issues
    in our current society?
  • 3:58 - 4:01
How can we start with us?
  • 4:01 - 4:02
What are different ways that we can.
  • 4:04 - 4:06
    >> Do good in the world.
  • 4:06 - 4:07
How can we stop that gap?
  • 4:07 - 4:09
Do you guys have any ideas?
  • 4:12 - 4:15
    >> I feel like what Josephine
said is like acknowledging it and
  • 4:15 - 4:18
    accepting what is occurring.
  • 4:18 - 4:23
    And not Fighting or
  • 4:23 - 4:27
like arguing, like, calling each other
names is not the step that we should take.
  • 4:27 - 4:34
Be like the step that we should take is,
you know, becoming friends, no matter
  • 4:34 - 4:39
like, no matter what and like accepting
each other to be like a first good step.
  • 4:39 - 4:41
    What do you think?
  • 4:41 - 4:45
Yeah, she brought up a really good point
that I like She should communicate,
  • 4:46 - 4:51
    communicate your ideas,
    your thoughts, your worries, and
  • 4:51 - 4:54
    say to the right people,
people that are gonna help you,
  • 4:54 - 4:57
people that can reach out to others and
    bring you help.
  • 4:58 - 5:03
    I specifically chose the both
of you to discuss this because
  • 5:03 - 5:07
we are a part of the arts and culture
    team with Seminole State volunteers.
  • 5:07 - 5:12
    SSV like Josephine said in
    her in her introduction and.
  • 5:12 - 5:18
I feel like this is great because we
are starting something different as this
  • 5:18 - 5:26
SSV arts and culture team, we can adjust
this gap we can address this gap in our
  • 5:26 - 5:31
events in our even in our like
motto that we are going to talk
  • 5:31 - 5:36
a lot is to end this gap by communicating
    with others reaching out with.
  • 5:36 - 5:39
    Others volunteering.
  • 5:39 - 5:44
So I just want to thank you guys because
this has opened our eyes so much and
  • 5:44 - 5:48
I hope I opened my eyes and
I hope it opened your eyes.
  • 5:48 - 5:51
If we could bring a change
    in the world then definitely
  • 5:51 - 5:54
    start incorporating that
    into my personal life and
  • 5:54 - 5:58
even try to reach out to others and
see if it It has been impacting.
  • 6:00 - 6:01
    Cool.
  • 6:01 - 6:03
    Thank you.
    >> Thank you.
  • 6:03 - 6:03
    >> Thank you.
