Anish Kapoor and friends: Recording Gangnam for Freedom
-
0:36 - 0:40Wei wei is courageous and able
-
0:40 - 0:44to make both his art and his being
-
0:44 - 0:46revolve around these questions
-
0:46 - 0:50of freedom of speech, freedom of expression.
-
0:50 - 0:52I mean it's interesting how here in London,
-
0:52 - 0:55and across the world, I must say,
-
0:55 - 0:58how many people have wanted to take part in this event.
-
0:58 - 1:03Through this silly act of dancing of dancing,
-
1:03 - 1:05you know, we can actually make a difference.
-
1:23 - 1:25It's very very interesting, isn't it?
-
1:25 - 1:32That pop music, which is in a way the most opened of cultural forums,
-
1:32 - 1:36of lands itself to such a wide wide public
-
1:36 - 1:42and allows us to perhaps insert into it other meanings.
-
2:33 - 2:37I come along because at least Anish is trying to do something
-
2:37 - 2:41and I feel little bit guilty about not having done something myself.
-
2:41 - 2:44But here I am, I can participate in
-
2:44 - 2:48some activity that supports a cause very near to my heart.
-
2:48 - 2:50It's unimaginable to me
-
2:50 - 2:52who've lived free the all my life
-
2:52 - 2:53able to say what I want
-
2:53 - 2:55do what I want
-
2:55 - 2:58and just to imagine today guys
-
2:58 - 3:02who get punished and you know, excluded from society
-
3:02 - 3:04because they're doing the same thing.
-
3:05 - 3:08It's, it's really, it's really upsetting.
-
3:08 - 3:09I'm not here to dance
-
3:09 - 3:13because my knees gave up their dancing days long ago.
-
3:13 - 3:17But I'm here to trying wave my arms
-
3:17 - 3:18I think I can manage that.

- Description:
-
Louisiana Channel joined, along with hundreds of friends, to attend British-Indian artist Anish Kapoor's studio recording of the 'Gangnam for Freedom'-video in support of Ai Weiwei.
Earlier this year Chinese dissident artist Ai Weiwei recorded a gangnam style video, dancing handcuffed, sending a message to the Chinese authorities who responded by banning the video as soon as it came online. Louisiana Channel joined the invitation, along with hundreds of friends, to attend British-Indian Anish Kapoor's studio recording of the 'Gangnam for freedom'-video in support of Ai Weiwei. In this video Kapoor comments on the possibilities of using pop music as a means of expressing political messages.
Recorded in London, November 2012.
Filmed by Matthias Pilz.
Produced by Kamilla Bruus and Christian Lund.
