Consolidation & Practice Schedule (Guitar Lesson BC-199) Guitar for beginners Stage 9 English (Subtitled)
-
0:07 - 0:13Well you've done it: you've reached the end.
This is the last lesson in my beginners course. -
0:13 - 0:17I really hope you've enjoyed this journey
and you've probably learnt a whole lot of stuff -
0:17 - 0:21but you'll probably find that there are quite a few things
that you haven't quite mastered yet. -
0:21 - 0:24Now I don't know what they are.
-
0:24 - 0:27I can kind of guess that most people struggle with this
or struggle with that -
0:27 - 0:29and try and help you out with things along the way
-
0:29 - 0:32but when it's got to this point you need
-
0:32 - 0:34to now look back on all of the things that we have covered
-
0:34 - 0:39and work out what are the things
that you haven't mastered yet. -
0:39 - 0:42What I have done is on the website BC199
-
0:42 - 0:45which is the consolidation page for the beginners course.
-
0:45 - 0:47I've got a list of all the things
-
0:47 - 0:49that we've covered during this course
-
0:49 - 0:51So what you really need to do now
-
0:51 - 0:53is to go back and look at everything
-
0:53 - 0:55on that list and make sure you know it.
-
0:55 - 0:58Make sure all of the chords are in your memory
-
0:58 - 1:00They are no good if you only know them on the website
-
1:00 - 1:02Or if you have to look them up in a chord book
-
1:02 - 1:04You need have them in here
-
1:04 - 1:06It's the same with the scales, same with everything
-
1:06 - 1:09the songs included, you need to know the songs
all the way through -
1:10 - 1:13so it's a really important stage
-
1:13 - 1:16go through make a list of all the things
-
1:16 - 1:18that are written on the consolidation page
-
1:18 - 1:20that you can't do.
-
1:20 - 1:22And then write your own routine depending
-
1:22 - 1:25on how much time you have available that
-
1:25 - 1:28covers all those things starting with easier things
-
1:28 - 1:30then moving on to the harder things.
-
1:31 - 1:33Now that might take another 6 months
-
1:33 - 1:34it might take a week or a month
-
1:34 - 1:37I have no idea, it depends on how far
-
1:37 - 1:41you've got with each of those elements of the course.
-
1:41 - 1:45Different people have extremely different abilities
-
1:45 - 1:46some people rip through one thing
-
1:46 - 1:48and really struggle with something else.
-
1:48 - 1:53and another person will really easily do that thing
the other guy found hard -
1:53 - 1:56One thing I've learnt as a teacher over the years is that people
-
1:56 - 1:59really struggle with the weirdest things to me
-
1:59 - 2:02and excel at other things.
-
2:02 - 2:04It's freaky how different we all are
-
2:04 - 2:06but that is maybe one of the beautiful things
-
2:06 - 2:08about us humans as well.
-
2:08 - 2:11So have a good go through that beginners course
-
2:11 - 2:13consolidate the information that you've got there
-
2:13 - 2:16and then you are ready to then to try
-
2:16 - 2:18and progress onto other areas.
-
2:18 - 2:20You might find that if your really enjoyed the
-
2:20 - 2:21strumming and the rhythm stuff
-
2:21 - 2:23you might want to check out my
-
2:23 - 2:26Really Useful Strumming Techniques DVD
-
2:26 - 2:28or some of the other strumming lessons that I've
-
2:28 - 2:29got on the website, there's quite a few
-
2:29 - 2:32different styles and techniques you can check out
-
2:32 - 2:35If you enjoyed the lead guitar things we touched on
-
2:35 - 2:37you might want to check out the Blues Lead Guitar course
-
2:37 - 2:41which is available free online or as a DVD
-
2:41 - 2:42Make sure you use that with the backing tracks
-
2:42 - 2:44that's the secret to that.
-
2:44 - 2:46If you really enjoyed the transcribing idea
-
2:46 - 2:47and you've been really getting into this
-
2:47 - 2:50J.U.S.T.I.N technique exercises then
-
2:50 - 2:52that's the kind of thing that you want to really develop
-
2:52 - 2:53now that you've finished the course
-
2:53 - 2:56and transcribing as many songs as you can.
-
2:56 - 2:57If you want help with that there is a transcribing
-
2:57 - 3:00section on the website with song tips.
-
3:00 - 3:02That would be a very good area of the website
-
3:02 - 3:03for you to check out now that you've
-
3:03 - 3:04finished your beginers course.
-
3:04 - 3:06If you really want to do the Blues
-
3:06 - 3:08another thing you might want to check out,
-
3:08 - 3:10sorry for pushing all my products on you
-
3:10 - 3:13but i also have some Solo Blues pieces
-
3:13 - 3:14there are some for free on the site and
-
3:14 - 3:16also some DVDs you can buy and you might find
-
3:16 - 3:19that useful as well as a place to move onto doing.
-
3:20 - 3:22After this first stage that you've
-
3:22 - 3:25done now the Beginners Course you can firmly draw
-
3:25 - 3:27a line that you have covered all of the
-
3:27 - 3:29beginners material. I've been really careful
-
3:29 - 3:30about the construction of this course
-
3:30 - 3:33and I really think I've covered most of the bases
-
3:33 - 3:35of things that I would expect a beginner guitar
-
3:35 - 3:38player to have learnt and you'll now be on the
-
3:38 - 3:39Intermediate journey for which there is
-
3:39 - 3:42masses of information. You really have to decide
-
3:42 - 3:45a little bit more now what things you want to do.
-
3:45 - 3:48Whether you want to do Rock or Blues or Metal or lead guitar or solo or whether you
-
3:48 - 3:51want to get a bit more into Jazzy themes or whatever
-
3:51 - 3:53you have start specialising a little bit when it
-
3:53 - 3:55comes to the intermediate stage, because there
-
3:55 - 3:58is so, so many things to learn.
-
3:58 - 4:01The one thing that I find really weird is
-
4:01 - 4:03the more stuff I learn the more I learn that
-
4:03 - 4:05I don't know anything at all, and there are
-
4:05 - 4:07still millions of things left to learn, you never stop.
-
4:07 - 4:10that's, I think one of the most beautiful things about
-
4:10 - 4:11playing a guitar is that even when you think
-
4:11 - 4:13you've mastered something you look over and there
-
4:13 - 4:15is someone else doing some even crazier stuff
-
4:15 - 4:16that you've got to learn.
-
4:16 - 4:18Which is I reckon a really cool thing.
-
4:18 - 4:20So I really hope you've enjoyed
-
4:20 - 4:22this Beginners Course and I hope one day
-
4:22 - 4:24that I get to meet you and you can give me some
-
4:24 - 4:27suggestions. If you get stuck on anything
-
4:27 - 4:29by the way don't forget about the forum.
-
4:29 - 4:31Every lesson on the website has a link to
-
4:31 - 4:34a specific topic on the forum which just
-
4:34 - 4:36deals with that one class so if you are
-
4:36 - 4:38getting stuck with any particular thing
-
4:38 - 4:40whether it's 12 bar rhythm or improvising
-
4:40 - 4:42or whatever you can go there and either get
-
4:42 - 4:45help from me, one of the hundreds or thousands
-
4:45 - 4:47of other people that use the forum and
-
4:47 - 4:49you can also drop me any advice like you found
-
4:49 - 4:51that really hard or that difficult and maybe
-
4:51 - 4:54I can add it into the website element of this
-
4:54 - 4:55course to help some other people.
-
4:55 - 4:58So do feel free to drop by the forum and offer
-
4:58 - 5:00advice and ask questions and all that.
-
5:00 - 5:02It's a really nice community of people
-
5:02 - 5:04So take care of yourselves and a big thank you to Jedi
-
5:04 - 5:07for all his hard work, filming and editing and bringing
-
5:07 - 5:09this content to you and
-
5:09 - 5:13take care, be safe and be kind!
