Cat Vid Fest 2013 - The New Generation of Cat Lovers!

Hey guys, I'm Alex Farnham
and you're watching Animalist News.

Back in August,
I took a trip down to Minnesota

to check out the internet
Cat Video Film Festival

I got a chance to hang out
with Lil Bub and her dude Mike

and to talk with some of the crazy
coolest cat fans out there!

So, let's take a look.

Amy, do you like cats?

I love cats.

I flew 2000 miles to be here

to share all these great cat videos

with thousands and thousands.
of my new friends.

What do you have to say
about this whole event?

It's crazy, I love the fact that
Minnesota is the host for this.

I am proud of my State,
so much right now.

So I'm here with Vanessa.

Vanessa, you have a cat tattoo

Yes, I do have a cat tattoo on my chest.

And do you call it a "cattoo"?

Occasionally, yeah,
on some social media websites

I might throw out catto.

So, I thought you'd be smaller
in real life

It's Little Bub, right?

Hey guys, look who we found.

we have Mike and Little Bub here.

So, what do you guys
expect from tonight?

Oh, I don't know, I think
Bub's going to win an award.

I think there's going to be plenty
of sensational cat videos.

I think that's what people
is expecting, right?

Right.

And just, you know,
it's a gathering of cat lovers,

lots of them, I think there's like 13,000.

the producer and creator
of the Cat Video Festival.

How you doing Scott?

Doin' well.

Cool, so, what do you like about cats?

There's a lot of things and I think
in the Cat Video world

what I like about cats is I think
cats don't perform for the camera

and that's partly
what makes them special.

What do you want people
to take away from this Festival?

I hope that they take away
like a sense of community from this

and it's a way of cat culture
coming together in the real world

which I don't think happens
as often as dog culture

and I think through this,
we found a way to do that

and I like to say is that
it isn't about cat videos

it's about watching cat videos together

and that's why we're doing this.

Things are getting crazy down here,

it's insane.

Argh!!!

Yeah!

I'm so... just... What?

We are crazy cat people.

Look at our boots.
We have our boots to prove it.

These are our cats.

Hey, can I ask you some questions?

So, what do cats mean to you?

Everything.

Everything?

Do you guys have a favorite cat video?

Anything with Grumpy Cat.

Grumpy Cat?

I'm looking forward
to Grumpy Cat as well.

She has no idea she is famous
like any of the cats here tonight

not at all she's completely oblivious
she sleeps for most of it.

And her disposition, I mean she's
here on the stage in front of

all these people and she's seems pretty-
she doesn't seem like she's gonna

do anything particularly grumpy.

What's the main message that you're trying
to spread with all of this?

Some sort of like an inspiration.

People always are like,
"Oh, I feel bad for Bub."

You don't have to feel bad for bub.
She's awesome.

She's totally happy with who she is and
so should everyone else.

Did you wanna ask Bub a question?

Yeah.

Bub, are you excited for tonight?
Hmm?

Wow, guys, that was awesome.
I gotta tell you, I totally underestimated

the cat fans out there.
I had no idea that man people were gonna

show up to this thing.
The show was sold out, it was 13,000

people. And what you guys didn't see
is that when they started showing the

actual videos of the cats, they arranged
all the cat videos into different sections

like comedy and superheroes and all that
stuff, and it was crazy to hear 13,000

people laughing at the same time.

So if you guys like cats, you should go
next year.

We'll keep you updated on when the next
one's gonna happen,

and trust me, it's definitely worth it.
