Pro Tip: CAD Checker

  • 0:00 - 0:02
As you work to make sure that your CAD models are
  • 0:02 - 0:05
good and you're learning how to check the quality of your own
  • 0:05 - 0:06
    work,
  • 0:06 - 0:08
it's really valuable to know that there's
  • 0:08 - 0:10
a tool that can help you,
  • 0:10 - 0:13
and it's called the CAD Checker. And how do you get the CAD checker?
  • 0:14 - 0:14
    Well,
  • 0:14 - 0:14
    first of all,
  • 0:14 - 0:16
you come up here to the app store,
  • 0:16 - 0:17
    and in the app store
  • 0:18 - 0:20
you type in the word "checker"
  • 0:20 - 0:22
and we see what comes up when we do that.
  • 0:22 - 0:25
There is the CAD Checker produced by the people who create Onshape.
  • 0:26 - 0:27
You can just click on this,
  • 0:27 - 0:30
get it downloaded into your Onshape.
  • 0:30 - 0:30
    It's free.
  • 0:31 - 0:31
    Once you do that,
  • 0:31 - 0:34
you see this little box down here called the CAD Checker.
  • 0:34 - 0:36
And one of the beauties of the CAD Checker
  • 0:37 - 0:42
is that there are two really important evaluations you can do with the self-check.
  • 0:42 - 0:45
You can compare your model properties to a reference.
  • 0:45 - 0:47
So, if I have provided you,
  • 0:47 - 0:48
    for example,
  • 0:48 - 0:49
    a solution file,
  • 0:49 - 0:50
you can type in the URL,
  • 0:50 - 0:51
    not type in,
  • 0:51 - 0:53
you can paste in the URL right there,
  • 0:53 - 0:59
and then it will compare the two models. And I'm comparing my NES that
  • 0:59 - 1:02
I've been using in the videos to the NES that was used for all the drawings.
  • 1:02 - 1:04
    And I can see that
  • 1:04 - 1:07
the two models compare beautifully because they're all
  • 1:07 - 1:09
green and it checks out as being
  • 1:10 - 1:10
    correct.
  • 1:10 - 1:11
If any one of these were wrong,
  • 1:11 - 1:15
these would show up as red, we'd be able to go in and figure out what we need to work on.
  • 1:15 - 1:19
Now there's another part of the CAD Checker that's valuable
  • 1:19 - 1:21
    and let's...
  • 1:22 - 1:23
How do I get out of this?
  • 1:23 - 1:25
    Why is that not happening?
  • 1:26 - 1:27
    There
  • 1:27 - 1:27
    you go.
  • 1:28 - 1:28
    I
  • 1:28 - 1:30
can click on the CAD Checker again, and when I click on
  • 1:30 - 1:34
the CAD Checker, I can come here and compare to best practices.
  • 1:34 - 1:34
    Super,
  • 1:34 - 1:36
    super valuable here,
  • 1:36 - 1:37
    especially for
  • 1:37 - 1:38
    a couple of things.
  • 1:38 - 1:39
    Number one,
  • 1:39 - 1:42
you can look to see which features you're using that's helpful.
  • 1:42 - 1:43
    OK,
  • 1:43 - 1:47
you can also look to see if your sketches are well defined or
  • 1:48 - 1:50
as we see right here in sketch number 6,
  • 1:50 - 1:51
    under defined.
  • 1:51 - 1:53
We don't want to have any underdefined sketches and
  • 1:53 - 1:55
this goes and checks all of them for us.
  • 1:56 - 1:59
So, now we need to know. Now, we know we can go into sketch 6
  • 1:59 - 2:00
    and make a fix.
  • 2:00 - 2:03
Also I know there's two parts in this particular Part Studio.
  • 2:03 - 2:06
And I really like that it's telling me that I've renamed all
  • 2:06 - 2:09
of my parts so that I'm not just having part 1,
  • 2:09 - 2:09
    part 2,
  • 2:09 - 2:10
    part 3.
  • 2:10 - 2:11
    Use the CAD Checker,
  • 2:11 - 2:12
    it's helpful,
  • 2:12 - 2:14
especially for seeing if you have any
  • 2:15 - 2:17
underdefined sketches that you need to go pay attention to.
  • 2:17 - 2:20
I suggest not turning in anything,
  • 2:20 - 2:20
    in
  • 2:20 - 2:24
your workflow that has underdefined sketches.
