Voices of Survivors Cast Video Skalickyphoto.com

  • Not Synced
It takes so much courage for survivors to
  • Not Synced
speak out and tell their stories.
  • Not Synced
For one, they are afraid of the
  • Not Synced
    traffickers finding them, but two,
  • Not Synced
it brings up alot of really really hard
  • Not Synced
memories. And so I feel privilaged to
  • Not Synced
hear a survivor story and know that just
  • Not Synced
by telling their story, they trust me
  • Not Synced
enough to hold it for them.
  • Not Synced
    [MUSIC]

    [MUSIC]
  • Not Synced
I was promised a good job for the house
  • Not Synced
and didn't have to worry about anything.
  • Not Synced
She said, "you can come with me and work
  • Not Synced
with me in restaurant. I have restaurant.
  • Not Synced
I- I pay you alot of money."
  • Not Synced
I thought it was a great opportunity to
  • Not Synced
come over here and work in the
  • Not Synced
United State. Because everyone in the
  • Not Synced
Philippines like when they heard America
  • Not Synced
they wanna go- they wanna come here.
  • Not Synced
    [MUSIC]
  • Not Synced
I wasn't able to talk to anybody. I was
  • Not Synced
forbidden to put one step out of the shop.
  • Not Synced
We sleep on the floor. Yes.
  • Not Synced
I feel numb because I don't know what do,
  • Not Synced
I don't know how to do it.
  • Not Synced
I had to work 17 hours a day,
  • Not Synced
    seve- seven days a week.
  • Not Synced
I wasn't able to talk to my co-workers.
  • Not Synced
Sometime I feel like I wanna kill myself
  • Not Synced
because it was to painful like it's really
  • Not Synced
    it's really like hurt- it's- it's really
  • Not Synced
like you know hurtful how you see-
  • Not Synced
how you see treat me. I don't know.
  • Not Synced
Where am I gonna go. I don't have anyone.
  • Not Synced
I don't have any money even though she
  • Not Synced
promise me to pay me like 150 dollars
  • Not Synced
a month but I did not get that money.
  • Not Synced
My trafficker often said that girls have
  • Not Synced
more rights in the United States than
  • Not Synced
I did. She said, "if I kill a dog I would
  • Not Synced
get in trouble but if I kill you nobody
  • Not Synced
is going to know and nobody is going
  • Not Synced
    to care.
  • Not Synced
She took my passport. I can go.
  • Not Synced
    I feel afraid. Because I don't know
  • Not Synced
where to go. No passport how can I go back
  • Not Synced
    to Thailand. Yeah. I- I don't know-
  • Not Synced
I don't know how to go.
  • Not Synced
I don't know friend. No friend.
  • Not Synced
Just friendly with in her house.
  • Not Synced
The trafficker said, if I tell anybody
  • Not Synced
what was going on, nobody will
  • Not Synced
believe me. And if I go to the police,
  • Not Synced
they will not believe me. They will put
  • Not Synced
me in jail and she- she knew where my
  • Not Synced
children were and I didn't want to risk
  • Not Synced
    my children.
  • Not Synced
What she always said that you can't go
  • Not Synced
    nowhere. You belong to me.
  • Not Synced
    [MUSIC]
  • Not Synced
The day that I was escape, umm, the- the
  • Not Synced
woman who helped me like took me to CAST
  • Not Synced
the same day and uh, since then CAST
  • Not Synced
help me alot with, you know, shelter,
  • Not Synced
with food, with money, with anything that
  • Not Synced
I need to get on my feet.
  • Not Synced
They brought you like who was gonna help
  • Not Synced
you to talk or interpreter. Like if you
  • Not Synced
    need something.
  • Not Synced
For the blanket, for the clothes,
  • Not Synced
    they give me alot.
  • Not Synced
Encouraging me to do something like
  • Not Synced
encouraging me like to go to school.
  • Not Synced
And the CAST help you to know your right.
  • Not Synced
And they- they make me very strong and
  • Not Synced
    independent person.
  • Not Synced
CAST open door for me. CAST take me
  • Not Synced
at Alexandra House. CAST take me school,
  • Not Synced
now I speak English alittle bit.
  • Not Synced
CAST has, uh, helped me through
  • Not Synced
    everything.
  • Not Synced
    [MUSIC]
  • Not Synced
When I spoke like with the congressman
  • Not Synced
or with senator like when we went
  • Not Synced
to Washington DC. I feel like am very
  • Not Synced
    important person.
  • Not Synced
We went to Sacramento and we got the
  • Not Synced
regulations passed. So now thanks to the
  • Not Synced
green card campaign, we are, uh, green
  • Not Synced
    card holders.
  • Not Synced
I want to be the voice of, um, the fixer
  • Not Synced
because I know how it feels to be in
  • Not Synced
    that situation.
  • Not Synced
In this country, you know, people has
  • Not Synced
a voice no matter who you are even though
  • Not Synced
    you are a slave.
  • Not Synced
We all know we've been- we've been, uh,
  • Not Synced
been enslaved and now we survived.
  • Not Synced
Even though we passed like, but we always
  • Not Synced
talk about that and we're still sharing.
  • Not Synced
    [MUSIC]
  • Not Synced
Free it's, uh, it means alot to me. Like-
  • Not Synced
like when you're free, when you became
  • Not Synced
a free, you- it feels like you're
  • Not Synced
    a new born child.
  • Not Synced
Freedom for me is really special thing
  • Not Synced
for me because I never have freedom
  • Not Synced
    in my life.
  • Not Synced
When I- when I was free, I was scared but
  • Not Synced
    I was so happy.
  • Not Synced
Am happy now because I have everything.
  • Not Synced
I go to school. I have job.
  • Not Synced
    I have green card. I- I- everything.
  • Not Synced
    I'm happy.
  • Not Synced
Yes, I love freedom. Anybody love freedom.
  • Not Synced
I- am proud of myself. I was a slave
  • Not Synced
and now I'm survivor, I'm activist and
  • Not Synced
    I'm a mother.
  • Not Synced
Freedom is everything to me. This is,
  • Not Synced
you know, everyone deserve to have, uh,
  • Not Synced
    freedom. It's free.
  • Not Synced
I wanna be part of it. I wanna be part
  • Not Synced
of the mission to end slavery. I wanna be
  • Not Synced
part of the making of the history of end
  • Not Synced
    slavery for good.
  • Not Synced
And the CAST, uh, help me become
  • Not Synced
an independent- become like a real man.
  • Not Synced
    [MUSIC]
  • Not Synced
At CAST we have the previlege of working
  • Not Synced
directly with victims, who then transform
  • Not Synced
and become survivors after going through
  • Not Synced
    our critical programs.
  • Not Synced
And that's important because we are able
  • Not Synced
to use those experiences and help
  • Not Synced
    survivors become leaders and powerful
  • Not Synced
    agents of change to impact
  • Not Synced
    systemic social change.
  • Not Synced
Who better to inform us how to end modern
  • Not Synced
    day slavery than survivors themselves.
  • Not Synced
When survivors tell us they're now happy,
  • Not Synced
we know we've done our job at CAST.
