An announcement from Khan Academy
-
0:05 - 0:06- Hi, I'm Sal Khan, founder of the
-
0:06 - 0:08not-for-profit Khan Academy,
-
0:08 - 0:11and I have some very exciting news.
-
0:11 - 0:12The data is in from our first year
-
0:12 - 0:15of the partnership between
us and the College Board -
0:15 - 0:19around Khan Academy being the
official practice for the SAT. -
0:19 - 0:20And what we're seeing is,
-
0:20 - 0:22students who spent an average
-
0:22 - 0:25of 20 hours of practice on Khan Academy
-
0:25 - 0:27are seeing roughly 115-point gain
-
0:28 - 0:31between the PSAT and the SAT.
-
0:31 - 0:33And to put that into perspective,
-
0:33 - 0:34that's roughly twice the point gain
-
0:34 - 0:39that students typically see
between the PSAT and the SAT. -
0:39 - 0:41And what's especially heartening
-
0:41 - 0:45is that we're seeing that gain
be consistent across gender, -
0:45 - 0:48race, and socioeconomic groups.
-
0:48 - 0:50And so this makes us feel really good,
-
0:50 - 0:52not just from the Khan
Academy point of view, -
0:52 - 0:54or the College Board point of view,
-
0:54 - 0:56but just in the overall theme
-
0:56 - 0:58of being able to help
level the playing field. -
0:58 - 1:01Students take the PSAT, they can sync
-
1:01 - 1:03those accounts with the Khan Academy,
-
1:03 - 1:06Khan Academy software then
has the information necessary -
1:06 - 1:08to essentially do weak point training.
-
1:08 - 1:11Know where you need
practice, not just in math, -
1:11 - 1:12but in reading and writing as well.
-
1:12 - 1:14And you get that practice so that
-
1:14 - 1:16you can put your best foot forward
-
1:16 - 1:18not just on the SAT, but to be
-
1:18 - 1:21optimally prepared for
college, and for life. -
1:21 - 1:25So this is exciting news,
it's also just the beginning, -
1:25 - 1:27and we hope to work with all of you,
-
1:27 - 1:29students, parents, teachers,
-
1:29 - 1:31to further level the playing field
-
1:31 - 1:34for college and life access.
