  • 0:01 - 0:02
    Yukirin intro
Whether asleep or awake it's Yukirin world,
  • 0:02 - 0:03
    Yukirin intro
    I'll make you dazed♪
  • 0:03 - 0:04
    Yukirin intro
I'm Kashiwagi Yuki also known as Yukirin
  • 0:04 - 0:11
Today we'll be talking about AKB48 Senbatsu Sousenkyou!
  • 0:11 - 0:14
I get a lot of questions on my comments section
  • 0:14 - 0:18
But this thing called AKB48 Senbatsu Sousenkyo
  • 0:18 - 0:21
is a huge event when we're talking about AKB48
  • 0:21 - 0:23
So I thought that I'd share my thoughts about it
  • 0:23 - 0:26
Things like how I felt on those days
  • 0:27 - 0:31
    Firstly, sousenkyo started in 2009
  • 0:31 - 0:33
In total, we held it ten times
  • 0:33 - 0:36
I participated in a total of eight times
  • 0:36 - 0:37
    Shall I state my rankings?
  • 0:37 - 0:38
    From the first one,
  • 0:38 - 0:39
    9th
  • 0:39 - 0:41
    8th
  • 0:41 - 0:42
    3rd
  • 0:43 - 0:43
    3rd
  • 0:44 - 0:44
    4th
  • 0:45 - 0:45
    3rd
  • 0:46 - 0:46
    2nd
  • 0:46 - 0:47
    5th
  • 0:48 - 0:50
But look it's all one-digit rankings!
  • 0:53 - 0:55
    My fans are amazing~!
  • 0:56 - 0:58
With that, I participated in those
  • 0:58 - 1:00
    but in the first sousenkyo,
  • 1:00 - 1:04
we had a single called [Namida Surprise] as the voting tickets
  • 1:04 - 1:05
then the members chosen with that gets to be in
  • 1:05 - 1:08
[Iiwake Maybe], the next song we released
  • 1:08 - 1:11
But back when they first said we were having a sousenkyo,
  • 1:11 - 1:15
I think they announced it on some blog or something
  • 1:15 - 1:16
and I didn't know that at all
  • 1:16 - 1:17
    I was like, "What's a sousenkyo?"
  • 1:18 - 1:19
To be honest, I didn't understand it all that well
  • 1:19 - 1:22
I didn't understand what kind of thing sousenkyo was
  • 1:22 - 1:25
I did understand that it was some kind of popularity contest
  • 1:25 - 1:27
but I didn't see how big and important it was
  • 1:27 - 1:29
So on the day of the sousenkyo,
  • 1:29 - 1:32
I was on a TBS show called [Hiruobi!]
  • 1:32 - 1:33
I was doing a weather report there
  • 1:33 - 1:37
Right beside TBS was the sousenkyo venue called [AkasakaBLITZ]
  • 1:37 - 1:40
So I was on TBS reporting about the weather until noon
  • 1:40 - 1:43
then I just crossed over to the next-door venue like it was nothing
  • 1:44 - 1:46
I can even say that I went to sousenkyo all by myself
  • 1:46 - 1:50
just like it was just some other normal event
  • 1:50 - 1:54
But personally, getting 9th place exceeded my expectations
  • 1:54 - 1:56
    I felt grateful
  • 1:56 - 1:58
Back then, I thought the although I was on the back row
  • 1:58 - 1:59
    I still got into senbatsu
  • 1:59 - 2:01
and I felt happy about that
  • 2:02 - 2:04
Things didn't change much for me after that
  • 2:04 - 2:08
Even these days, there's something famously called Kami7
  • 2:08 - 2:12
A lot of people say that I'm a part of Kami7 too
  • 2:12 - 2:12
    but for me,
  • 2:12 - 2:14
    I'm not part of Kami7...
  • 2:14 - 2:15
It's sounds kinda sad hearing it from my own mouth
  • 2:15 - 2:18
I'm not part of the original Kami7
  • 2:18 - 2:19
    If you ask me why,
  • 2:19 - 2:23
being part of the Kami7 isn't because you placed high
  • 2:23 - 2:28
It's because on both the first and the second sousenkyo,
  • 2:28 - 2:34
the top 7 changed orders, but they are the same seven people
  • 2:34 - 2:36
Even when we did it twice, they still all placed top 7
  • 2:36 - 2:38
because of that, THESE seven are called KAMI (god)
  • 2:38 - 2:41
Thus, the Kami7 became a thing
  • 2:41 - 2:43
I placed 8th on the second one,
  • 2:43 - 2:45
so I was almost part of the Kami7,
  • 2:45 - 2:47
but it was because I couldn't get in
  • 2:47 - 2:50
that we can say these seven people are definitely amazing!
  • 2:50 - 2:53
In 2011, on the third sousenkyo,
  • 2:53 - 2:54
There's a thing called "preliminary results" that always gets released
  • 2:54 - 2:58
It's the results after the first day of CD sales
  • 2:58 - 3:00
It's something like the results for the first day
  • 3:00 - 3:02
    And in that,
  • 3:02 - 3:04
    I somehow placed third!
  • 3:04 - 3:05
    Maeda-san,
  • 3:05 - 3:06
    Yuko-chan,
  • 3:06 - 3:07
    ME
  • 3:07 - 3:08
    I thought it was amazing!
  • 3:09 - 3:10
    Even the management told me,
  • 3:10 - 3:14
    "You placed third,
it's great that your name is getting well-known, right!"
  • 3:14 - 3:16
    That's my preliminary results memory!
  • 3:16 - 3:18
I thought the same of course, but then...
  • 3:18 - 3:22
I really ended up in third place
  • 3:22 - 3:25
To be honest, instead of feeling happy,
  • 3:25 - 3:27
    I thought "I overdid it..."
  • 3:27 - 3:29
    Seriously, to be really honest
  • 3:29 - 3:32
I thought "This is overkill..." to be honest
  • 3:32 - 3:34
That day ended with me thinking that this was bad
  • 3:34 - 3:35
    Then on the next day,
  • 3:35 - 3:35
    that morning,
  • 3:35 - 3:39
In some morning news show on TV,
  • 3:39 - 3:42
I heard "Kashiwagi Yuki" and that woke me up
  • 3:42 - 3:47
I was like "this kid that came out of nowhere"
  • 3:47 - 3:50
That really made me realize that a really unbelievable thing just happened
  • 3:50 - 3:52
I'd say my life was changed after that
  • 3:52 - 3:55
My life changed after joining AKB,
  • 3:55 - 3:57
but placing third with that timing
  • 3:57 - 4:00
has changed my life even further
  • 4:00 - 4:03
I became a person that stands beside
    Maeda-san and Yuko-chan
  • 4:03 - 4:06
It really raised my self-awareness of my place in AKB
  • 4:06 - 4:09
The thing that made me think that
"It's okay for me to stay in AKB."
  • 4:09 - 4:10
    was when I placed third
  • 4:10 - 4:11
That's why I'm very grateful for that
  • 4:11 - 4:14
but then, the problem was what it comes after that
  • 4:14 - 4:16
I needed to maintain my ranking
  • 4:16 - 4:20
I really had to make sure to at least not place lower
  • 4:20 - 4:22
Instead of gunning for 1st or 2nd,
  • 4:22 - 4:26
I was focusing more on not getting a lower rank
  • 4:26 - 4:28
    That was quite a struggle
  • 4:28 - 4:30
but somehow, I also placed 3rd the next year
  • 4:30 - 4:31
    then 4th
  • 4:31 - 4:34
I got more or less the same rank
  • 4:34 - 4:37
iIn 2015, I stated "I want to be 1st place",
  • 4:37 - 4:38
I said that I'm aiming for the 1st place
  • 4:38 - 4:41
for the first time in 2015
  • 4:41 - 4:45
That year, I got to double-center a single called [Green Flash]
  • 4:45 - 4:48
    Plus, in 2013, Sasshi won
  • 4:48 - 4:50
    In 2014, Mayuyu won
  • 4:50 - 4:53
So in 2015, during Sasshi and Mayu's fight against each other
  • 4:53 - 4:55
I thought that maybe putting my name into the mix
  • 4:55 - 4:56
will make things a bit more interesting
  • 4:56 - 4:58
Of course, a part of me also wanted to win
  • 4:58 - 5:01
I thought that this was my only chance to do so
  • 5:01 - 5:03
In the end, I placed 2nd
  • 5:03 - 5:05
Sasshi was the definite 1st place
  • 5:05 - 5:06
but that's not really suprising for anyone
  • 5:06 - 5:07
    Of course, I knew that
  • 5:07 - 5:09
but it made me think that if I worked this hard,
  • 5:09 - 5:11
    I can get placed second!
  • 5:11 - 5:12
    I was very very grateful!
  • 5:12 - 5:14
    Then, in that next year,
  • 5:14 - 5:17
    it became a nomination system
  • 5:17 - 5:19
so we a had a choice to run or not
  • 5:19 - 5:20
I thought that I already placed second
  • 5:20 - 5:22
so I think I've had my fill
  • 5:22 - 5:24
    My fans already worked hard
  • 5:24 - 5:28
so I thought I wouldn't participate this time, this was 2016
  • 5:28 - 5:29
    but then,
  • 5:29 - 5:31
That time I was also a part of NGT48,
  • 5:31 - 5:33
    the group from Niigata,
  • 5:33 - 5:37
and the venue for 2016 was in Niigata!
  • 5:37 - 5:39
So given that I was in NGT,
  • 5:39 - 5:42
    saying "I won't join this year's sousenkyo"
  • 5:42 - 5:44
    is something I couldn't do...
  • 5:44 - 5:45
So I also participated in that one
  • 5:45 - 5:46
I place 5th in that one
  • 5:47 - 5:50
I got told a lot of things at that time
  • 5:50 - 5:51
Things like "Last year, you were second"
  • 5:51 - 5:53
    "You fell so much!"
  • 5:53 - 5:55
or "Your number of votes got lower"
  • 5:55 - 5:56
I got told a lot of those
  • 5:56 - 5:58
But then, considering that I've been in this group for a long time now
  • 5:58 - 6:01
I think I'm already numb to those kinds of comments to be honest
  • 6:01 - 6:03
I already get that this girl is better than me, or
  • 6:03 - 6:05
this girl is definitely more popular than me
  • 6:05 - 6:06
    I already know those things
  • 6:06 - 6:08
So even according to my expectations that year,
  • 6:08 - 6:09
I place rightly at 5th place
  • 6:09 - 6:12
If I really was doing bad, I thought that I'd fall a bit more
  • 6:12 - 6:15
So to be honest, placing 5th was more of a win for me
  • 6:15 - 6:18
From an outsider's point of view, I really fell behind
  • 6:18 - 6:19
but I didn't really care about that!
  • 6:21 - 6:23
I already knew that I would place around that area
  • 6:23 - 6:25
so I was satisfied with that 5th place too
  • 6:25 - 6:26
Then for the next two years,
  • 6:26 - 6:29
I didn't participate, that was twice!
  • 6:29 - 6:30
    My biggest reason was
  • 6:30 - 6:33
I thought that at around 2017,
  • 6:33 - 6:36
The fact that my fans pay a lot of money for me
  • 6:36 - 6:38
to support me and place me to the top of the rankings
  • 6:38 - 6:41
is something that didn't really feel good for me
  • 6:41 - 6:42
    If that was the case,
  • 6:42 - 6:46
On things like CDs, handshakes, concerts, goods, or tours
  • 6:46 - 6:48
I'd rather have them place their money
  • 6:48 - 6:52
on other things that will make them happy while supporting me
  • 6:52 - 6:54
But still, not participating needs a lot of courage too
  • 6:54 - 6:55
    If I participate,
  • 6:55 - 6:57
I get told that I "steal senbatsu places"
  • 6:57 - 6:59
    If I don't,
  • 6:59 - 7:00
I get told "she ran away"
  • 7:00 - 7:01
    Seriously, people are tsundere
  • 7:01 - 7:05
The number of senbatsu members aren't decided in the first place
  • 7:05 - 7:08
If they say that, "You have to be in the top 16 to be in senbatsu!"
  • 7:08 - 7:10
I'll completely understand the "steal senbatsu places" point
  • 7:10 - 7:14
but the selected members even increased by two from the last year
  • 7:14 - 7:15
So regardless of if I was there or not,
  • 7:15 - 7:17
    It wouldn't have mattered...
  • 7:17 - 7:19
So just give me a pass already~
  • 7:19 - 7:22
If I was told that we're having another one,
  • 7:23 - 7:26
    I'd seriously be troubled...
  • 7:26 - 7:30
If it was something where one person can only vote once,
  • 7:30 - 7:31
there won't be any burden (for fans),
  • 7:31 - 7:34
    I'd probably do it
  • 7:34 - 7:35
    If that happens,
  • 7:35 - 7:37
to the people watching this video,
  • 7:37 - 7:41
please place your precious vote to Kashiwagi Yuki!
  • 7:43 - 7:45
    Seriously, please
  • 7:45 - 7:49
If it's a vote that won't cost money, please do
  • 7:49 - 7:51
Did I say something that'll look like it'll get into headlines?
  • 7:51 - 7:52
I wonder which one will get attention
  • 7:52 - 7:54
but I didn't say anything too weird...
  • 7:55 - 7:57
Maybe the part of "stealing senbatsu places"?
  • 7:58 - 7:59
lol even if it isn't related to the senkyo
  • 7:59 - 8:00
    Forgive me!
  • 8:01 - 8:01
If I say it like this, they'll say
  • 8:01 - 8:03
[She used to be so neat and proper back then...]
  • 8:03 - 8:06
[She wasn't loudspoken like this back then...]
  • 8:06 - 8:08
Is it okay if I say one last thing?
  • 8:08 - 8:10
If you participate in a handshake event before a new song releases
  • 8:10 - 8:13
Things like, "Are there any plans to perform the new song?"
  • 8:13 - 8:15
Or "When's the next one coming?"
  • 8:15 - 8:16
I get asked things like that
  • 8:16 - 8:18
If it's before the official announcement,
  • 8:18 - 8:20
I won't say it to you
  • 8:22 - 8:25
Of course, (the new song) is already finished
  • 8:25 - 8:27
But for things that hasn't been announced
  • 8:27 - 8:29
    I won't say a thing!
  • 8:29 - 8:32
Since it's a waste, please don't ask me that!
  • 8:33 - 8:37
Things like "When's the next senbatsu concert?"
  • 8:37 - 8:38
"What kind of a song is it?"
  • 8:38 - 8:39
    I won't say a thing!
  • 8:40 - 8:42
So please, since it's a waste of handshake tickets
  • 8:42 - 8:44
please don't ask me about that!
  • 8:44 - 8:45
    Please!
  • 8:45 - 8:48
With that, we talked about sousenkyo--
  • 8:48 - 8:49
Oh I talked a lot huh
  • 8:49 - 8:51
I don't think there was anything shocking in anything I said
  • 8:51 - 8:55
But if there's something else you want to hear about AKB,
  • 8:55 - 8:58
I'll be happy if you'd comment it down below!
  • 8:58 - 9:00
With that, this was Kashiwagi Yuki aka Yukirin
  • 9:00 - 9:01
    See you next time!
