Standing the ice with our minds | Wim Hof | TEDxYouth@Maastricht
-
0:07 - 0:12Look at this little film,
three and a half minutes. -
0:12 - 0:14(Music)
-
0:20 - 0:22(Video) Narrator (Dutch):
Wim Hof, the iceman. -
0:22 - 0:23This is how we know him,
-
0:23 - 0:26a man who can withstand
extreme cold for hours. -
0:27 - 0:30Journalist (English): 8 o'clock now,
on Friday morning January 25th, 2008, -
0:30 - 0:33a chilly morning
for most folks on the plaza ... -
0:33 - 0:36Narrator (Dutch): A man who can climb
Mt. Everest just in shorts. -
0:37 - 0:40A man who ran
half a marathon in Lapland, -
0:40 - 0:44barefoot and in shorts
at -30 degrees celsius. -
0:44 - 0:48A man who swam large distances
under the ice, from hole to hole. -
0:48 - 0:50He does the impossible.
-
0:50 - 0:52Journalist: Wim Hof knows
how to deal with extreme cold, -
0:52 - 0:56and says he knows how to control
his innate immune response. -
0:56 - 0:59According to scientists, it's impossible.
-
1:00 - 1:02For over a year,
the St. Radboud Research Center -
1:02 - 1:05conducted experiments on the iceman.
-
1:05 - 1:07Is he really a medical mystery?
-
1:07 - 1:10The results, according to the scientists,
are remarkable. -
1:10 - 1:13Narrator: Something remarkable
is going on with Wim Hof. -
1:13 - 1:19It seems as though he's able to influence
the response of his immune system. -
1:19 - 1:21Doctor: To make it
scientifically fallible, -
1:21 - 1:26Wim should train a group of ten
to practice his techniques, -
1:26 - 1:29and have another group of ten
not trained by him, -
1:29 - 1:32to see if we can
reproduce those differences. -
1:32 - 1:34Narrator : 12 young and healthy volunteers
-
1:34 - 1:38have been trained by him
for four days in Poland, -
1:38 - 1:41for a crash course
in what Wim mastered years ago: -
1:41 - 1:43withstand the cold and meditate.
-
1:44 - 1:47(Video) Wim Hof: If you learn
some techniques I learned in the cold -
1:47 - 1:52and apply my breathing technique,
you can go deep into your nervous system; -
1:52 - 1:56not just a little deep
but down to the autonomic level. -
1:58 - 2:00Narrator: And then, the research.
-
2:00 - 2:04Just as with Wim in 2011, the volunteers
were injected with a dead bacteria -
2:04 - 2:08while applying
the techniques taught by him. -
2:08 - 2:11A normal human being would get very sick
for about three hours. -
2:11 - 2:15Doctor: Here comes the endotoxin.
10 for the worst state, zero for the best. -
2:15 - 2:16Patient: Zero.
-
2:17 - 2:23Narrator: And then, the control group:
volunteers not trained by Wim. -
2:23 - 2:26Results: the guys were
very sick, even shivering. -
2:26 - 2:30All the blood samples of the 12 volunteers
and the control group -
2:30 - 2:32have been tested in laboratory setting.
-
2:32 - 2:36The results are very, very remarkable.
-
2:36 - 2:39Doctor: Our most important conclusion
is that we're able to say, -
2:39 - 2:43for the first time in history,
very clearly and without doubt, -
2:43 - 2:48that a human being is able to influence
his autonomic nervous system, -
2:48 - 2:53something that was scientifically
not considered possible. -
2:54 - 2:59Wim Hof: It is you, who can do this.
You, you and you. Everybody. -
2:59 - 3:03If you can control
the stress hormone level in your body -
3:03 - 3:06and bring it back to its natural state,
-
3:06 - 3:10you feel more energetic
but also more complete yourself, -
3:10 - 3:12a deeper level of self-awareness.
-
3:12 - 3:15We can do much more than we thought
would ever be possible. -
3:16 - 3:19(On stage) Wim Hof (English):
Alright. There he is! -
3:19 - 3:21(Applause) (Cheers)
-
3:21 - 3:22Thank you.
-
3:24 - 3:29I heard great speakers,
just now, before me, -
3:29 - 3:32and it's all coming from the heart.
-
3:32 - 3:35We are able to make mistakes.
-
3:35 - 3:39Of course we believe
that living from the heart -
3:39 - 3:42is the only way
in which there is no border. -
3:42 - 3:47There is no border in feeling,
in sensation, in what we want. -
3:48 - 3:52And to come on this planet Earth -
-
3:52 - 3:54beautiful planet by the way! -
-
3:56 - 3:58I had my... What?
-
3:58 - 4:00Oh, in the red spot. Okay.
-
4:00 - 4:02(Laughter)
-
4:02 - 4:04Yes.
-
4:04 - 4:09You know, the only goal
on this planet, this beautiful planet, -
4:09 - 4:15actually, is to become spiritually aware
-
4:16 - 4:21and to have a feeling
like a plant, like a flower. -
4:21 - 4:25She grows into a stem, then leaves.
-
4:25 - 4:29It takes sunshine, rain,
and all the elements, -
4:29 - 4:35and in the interaction
it becomes a natural flower. -
4:35 - 4:37We are like that.
-
4:37 - 4:44Our spirit wants to evolve, grow,
become strong and expand, -
4:45 - 4:48and become happy, therein.
-
4:48 - 4:51There's only happiness in living
-
4:51 - 4:55from this belief, feeling,
-
4:55 - 4:59within the depth of our being.
-
4:59 - 5:04And that made me search
-
5:05 - 5:08for what was not in the books,
-
5:10 - 5:12it did not tell me, "This is luck,"
-
5:12 - 5:14"This is absolute health,"
-
5:14 - 5:16"This is the way to live."
-
5:16 - 5:19It was always so far from me.
-
5:20 - 5:27So I began, beyond my fears,
beyond my way of thinking, the rules, -
5:27 - 5:33and all the things which had set in
because of school, systems and hierarchy, -
5:34 - 5:39I began to look for something
deeper within myself. -
5:40 - 5:42Therefore,
-
5:45 - 5:47I went into nature.
-
5:48 - 5:51I went back to nature, mother Nature.
-
5:52 - 5:55I had followed many esoteric disciplines,
-
5:55 - 5:57but from books.
-
5:59 - 6:02With the existent disciplines
-
6:02 - 6:07I could not really make this contact
deeply within myself. -
6:08 - 6:15Therefore, finally, I got attracted
by freezing cold water. -
6:16 - 6:22Intuitively, I felt it was attracting me.
-
6:22 - 6:25It wanted me to go in it. I went in.
-
6:26 - 6:28I only took one minute inside,
-
6:28 - 6:35but I felt a tremendous recognition
of the depth of my physiology, -
6:35 - 6:38and I knew from the inside: this is it.
-
6:38 - 6:41This is what I was looking for.
-
6:41 - 6:44Maybe you think: "Freezing water?
Are you looking for freezing water?" -
6:44 - 6:45(Laughter)
-
6:45 - 6:50"It's f*cking cold!
No, I'm not going to do that." -
6:51 - 6:56But we have such
internal powers within us. -
6:57 - 6:59We are mammals,
-
7:00 - 7:06and we have these mechanisms,
developed over millions of years. -
7:06 - 7:12Since we became humans,
we're making everything comfortable, -
7:12 - 7:16putting clothes on,
making rules to Nature, -
7:19 - 7:22actually inflicting a damage to Nature.
-
7:22 - 7:25The Amazon is in danger
-
7:25 - 7:31because it is not able
to absorb so much CO2 anymore -
7:31 - 7:33in the last 30 years.
-
7:33 - 7:36What are we doing ?
-
7:37 - 7:42I tried to go into the depth of myself
and look for answers. -
7:42 - 7:44I found it in cold water.
-
7:45 - 7:47It brought me back
-
7:47 - 7:50because cold water really is merciless,
-
7:50 - 7:52but it is righteous.
-
7:52 - 7:58And it brought me
into an absolute certainty, -
7:58 - 8:03within myself, beyond my thoughts,
-
8:03 - 8:08into this primordial
very good, very strong feeling, -
8:08 - 8:12and it united all
the mechanisms within myself, -
8:12 - 8:18making me able to stay, for example,
in shorts, in freezing temperatures, -
8:18 - 8:21all night long, just sitting,
-
8:22 - 8:25using breathing.
-
8:25 - 8:30The breath is able to get
into the depth of our physiology, -
8:30 - 8:35far more than we thought before.
-
8:36 - 8:41And because of our way
of behaving with clothes, -
8:41 - 8:45we are not living in interaction
with Nature anymore. -
8:45 - 8:49So cold does not affect us,
and heat does not affect us -
8:49 - 8:55because we are all, all the time,
able to control the environment. -
8:55 - 9:00But we are not able to control
the mechanisms within. -
9:01 - 9:04Now, you saw this little film,
-
9:04 - 9:09which showed I trained people
within four days, to be able, -
9:09 - 9:13without experience in the cold,
just in four days, -
9:13 - 9:19to go in shorts
at -10 degrees Celsius, -
9:20 - 9:26and then for hours climb up
a mountain to go to the summit. -
9:26 - 9:29And there, it was -27.
-
9:30 - 9:33It was all in a research program.
-
9:33 - 9:38The doctors who were accompanying us
were completely dressed -
9:38 - 9:45with scarves, head-covers,
and thick coats. -
9:45 - 9:47They were suffering from cold.
-
9:47 - 9:52And these guys in shorts
were dancing the Harlem Shake -
9:52 - 9:54on the top of the mountain.
(Laughter) -
9:54 - 9:58Then I knew, these guys, in four days,
-
9:58 - 10:04will be able to control
their autonomic nervous system, -
10:04 - 10:06related to the immune system,
-
10:06 - 10:12making them able to withstand
an injection of the E. coli bacteria - -
10:13 - 10:17which normally creates
uncontrollable shivering, -
10:17 - 10:21headaches, all over miserable feeling,
-
10:22 - 10:24no good -
-
10:24 - 10:27they were able to control that
within 15 minutes. -
10:27 - 10:29And you know why?
-
10:29 - 10:32Because they not only danced
the Harlem Shake, -
10:32 - 10:36they awakened these internal mechanisms
-
10:36 - 10:41from which we became alienated
because of our comfort - -
10:41 - 10:44the so-called comfort -
-
10:44 - 10:46and controlling Nature,
-
10:47 - 10:50without being able
to control the nature within. -
10:52 - 10:53They showed this,
-
10:53 - 10:57and they passed their fears to do this.
-
10:58 - 11:01They felt: "Hey guys, this is a team.
-
11:01 - 11:04We are going to tackle the biggest war
-
11:04 - 11:09with the biggest amount
of casualties ever, -
11:09 - 11:15which is the war of the bacteria,
the vaccine and the virus. -
11:16 - 11:18Are we able to do that?
-
11:18 - 11:25I feel we are able to do this,
but we have to do this together." -
11:25 - 11:28And yes, in four days, just four days,
-
11:28 - 11:33they were able to go in shorts,
at -10 to -27 on top, -
11:33 - 11:35and do the Harlem Shake.
-
11:35 - 11:37But at the same time,
-
11:37 - 11:43they were able to reawaken
these internal powers, -
11:43 - 11:49which gives them access
to the control of their immune system, -
11:49 - 11:54their autonomic nervous system,
their hormonal system. -
11:54 - 11:58And what do we suffer in this world from?
-
11:59 - 12:05From depression, cancer,
all kinds of autoimmune diseases, -
12:05 - 12:08and of having no control within:
-
12:09 - 12:10powerlessness.
-
12:11 - 12:18And I say, now, surely after this research,
it's opening up, little by little. -
12:18 - 12:23We published in the best
of medical magazines in the world -
12:24 - 12:27that we are able to go deeper within,
-
12:28 - 12:33and therefore change our way of thinking:
-
12:35 - 12:41happiness, health and strength
are makeable for us all. -
12:42 - 12:48Every individual, going by science
and showing just by measurements - -
12:49 - 12:53a control group and a group
that was instructed, -
12:53 - 12:56enabling them in just a couple of days
-
12:56 - 12:59because they were motivated
and took it on - -
12:59 - 13:05can see that the things
that I learned in the heart of Nature, -
13:06 - 13:08not in the books,
-
13:08 - 13:14has altered them
in the depth of themselves. -
13:17 - 13:19In just four days...
-
13:19 - 13:24In just four days, we showed
scientifically by measurement -
13:28 - 13:34that everybody actually
is able to control much more within, -
13:35 - 13:39that they are able to go back
to the natural state -
13:39 - 13:43wherein we are able to control
our hormonal system, -
13:43 - 13:49which is connected to the nice hormones
which make us happy, -
13:49 - 13:52and the strong hormones
which make us strong. -
13:52 - 13:57They saw in the hospital
people lying in bed, -
13:57 - 14:00doing certain breathing
exercises and focus. -
14:00 - 14:03They saw them creating,
-
14:03 - 14:09generating more adrenaline
in a tranquil, controlled way, -
14:09 - 14:13than somebody in fear for the first time
going into a bungee jump -
14:14 - 14:17- blood results comparison.
-
14:17 - 14:19That's control.
-
14:20 - 14:25And of course a bacteria,
at that point, has no chance. -
14:26 - 14:27And that's the immune system.
-
14:27 - 14:29What do we have in this world?
-
14:29 - 14:31A whole lot of diseases,
-
14:31 - 14:35a whole lot of powerlessness
against disease, -
14:35 - 14:38against depression and all that.
-
14:38 - 14:39And why?
-
14:39 - 14:47Because we lost track of what Nature is,
within us and in interaction. -
14:48 - 14:54So in the future, we have to
take away all these borders, -
14:54 - 14:59this way of thinking,
this too much comfort, -
14:59 - 15:02and thinking that we are able
to control Nature, -
15:02 - 15:09because Nature within
should be happiness, strength and health. -
15:11 - 15:17We took this pursuit on,
and we have no fear. -
15:17 - 15:19We believe in this.
-
15:19 - 15:21We dare and do, all the time,
-
15:21 - 15:28things unbelievable by scientists,
and physiologists are telling us, -
15:28 - 15:31"This is irresponsible
what you're going to do. -
15:31 - 15:36With 26 people, in three days, in shorts,
climbing Kilimanjaro? -
15:37 - 15:38That's not possible,
-
15:38 - 15:43especially with people who have
no mountain area experience, -
15:45 - 15:51and have cancer, a heart condition,
Crohn's disease, MS, asthma, -
15:51 - 15:54and all kinds of different diseases."
-
15:54 - 15:56I told them, "Are you motivated?
-
15:56 - 16:01Now we are able to climb
Mt. Kilimanjaro in three days, -
16:01 - 16:06which is irresponsible,
looking at it physiologically. -
16:07 - 16:11But I feel we are able to do this."
So we took it on. -
16:11 - 16:16And all these physiologists told us,
-
16:16 - 16:18"You can't do this.
-
16:18 - 16:23Because the physiological limits
of the human body -
16:23 - 16:25are scientifically stated
-
16:25 - 16:29as not enabling you
to climb in three days, -
16:29 - 16:32especially in shorts, up Mt. Kilimanjaro."
-
16:34 - 16:37We didn't do it in three days.
We did it in two days. -
16:38 - 16:41Now, I do not hear of them any more.
-
16:43 - 16:47And all these guys -
65 years, the oldest one - -
16:48 - 16:51he did it too, in two days.
-
16:51 - 16:54Last January, we repeated it,
-
16:54 - 16:59and we took off 16 hours
from this [total] of 46 hours. -
16:59 - 17:02We did it in 31 hours, 25 minutes.
-
17:03 - 17:05I'm trying to astound, every time,
-
17:05 - 17:10showing that the power
within every human body, -
17:10 - 17:11every person in the world,
-
17:11 - 17:14is able to do a whole lot more,
-
17:15 - 17:21to become happy by his or her control,
-
17:21 - 17:23every individual in the world.
-
17:24 - 17:29We showed that the autonomic
nervous system is no longer autonomic. -
17:29 - 17:34The books are changed in the universities
in the U.S. right now, because of us: -
17:34 - 17:36the first group in the world to show
-
17:36 - 17:40that the autonomic nervous system
in relationship with the immune system, -
17:40 - 17:45that was supposedly uncontrollable
is 100% controllable. -
17:47 - 17:53All the 12 participants in this research
showed direct control within 15 minutes, -
17:53 - 17:55and the bacteria had no chance.
-
17:55 - 17:58That means: control
of the hormonal system. -
17:59 - 18:04The hormonal system consists
of hormones, and we have a brain. -
18:05 - 18:08Once this internal natural power
-
18:08 - 18:12and the connection between
the hormonal system and the brain -
18:12 - 18:17is reestablished by going into Nature,
-
18:17 - 18:21and being able to do the Harlem Shake
-
18:21 - 18:25on the top of the mountain at -27.
-
18:26 - 18:28Anybody can do this.
-
18:29 - 18:31I train people regardless [of age].
-
18:31 - 18:33I am going to do the next climb
-
18:33 - 18:37with a person who will be 77
at that point. -
18:37 - 18:39He is motivated.
-
18:39 - 18:45And he will be able to make a record time
up the Kilimanjaro, like all. -
18:47 - 18:51The thing I want to state is: it is time
-
18:52 - 18:55to make possible
-
18:56 - 18:59in the consciousness of people
-
19:00 - 19:04that we are people who want to become -
-
19:04 - 19:09that the goal of people
is to become happy, strong and healthy. -
19:13 - 19:14We showed by figures and measurements
-
19:14 - 19:20that we are able to control things
much deeper within our systems. -
19:20 - 19:23We're alienated from our systems,
-
19:23 - 19:25so we lost control
over the hormonal system, -
19:25 - 19:30thus depression and all kinds of diseases.
-
19:31 - 19:33We are victims of that.
That's a lottery. -
19:33 - 19:37Maybe yes, maybe no; we don't know.
-
19:37 - 19:41But we do know now
that by going into Nature, -
19:41 - 19:43interacting the right way,
-
19:43 - 19:47we are able to deepen
our control and power within, -
19:47 - 19:50in just a couple of days
because it is already there, -
19:50 - 19:54made by millions
of years of trial and error. -
19:54 - 20:00It is still there, and it is time
to get back into control, -
20:01 - 20:04to become happy - hormonal system -
-
20:04 - 20:07to become strong - hormonal system -
-
20:07 - 20:10and to become healthy - immune system.
-
20:11 - 20:13We showed it all.
-
20:13 - 20:17I don't know why it is sort of blocked.
-
20:17 - 20:21It is going so slow.
-
20:22 - 20:25The books are changing, right now,
-
20:25 - 20:28in the universities
of biology and medical sciences. -
20:28 - 20:33I do not know why they didn't take down
what we showed as a first group -
20:33 - 20:37about the autonomic nervous system
in relationship with the immune system. -
20:37 - 20:44That's great news because it is important
for every person in this world, -
20:45 - 20:50in a very short time, to be able
to go deeper within our power. -
20:50 - 20:52And it's for free.
-
20:54 - 20:57I think it's time for the world,
-
20:57 - 21:00which is able to make
such beautiful technology -
21:00 - 21:04like iPhones and all that,
-
21:04 - 21:10to learn to guarantee happiness,
strength, and health, -
21:10 - 21:12for God's sake.
-
21:12 - 21:14And all these systems,
-
21:14 - 21:17we are running after these systems,
-
21:17 - 21:22while these systems
actually should serve us, humans, -
21:22 - 21:25to become happy, strong, and healthy.
-
21:25 - 21:29We showed that we are able to do this.
-
21:29 - 21:32Why does it go so slow? I do not know.
-
21:32 - 21:33You are a young audience.
-
21:33 - 21:36I want to give you this message:
-
21:36 - 21:37"Hey, guys.
-
21:37 - 21:42We are able to do so much more
in just a short period of time -
21:42 - 21:45by awakening internal powers.
-
21:45 - 21:48It is unbelievable
what you experience then, -
21:48 - 21:50and what you are able to do."
-
21:53 - 21:57Yes, that's a sort of message, a mission.
-
21:58 - 22:01And I'm not afraid
to make mistakes at it, right? -
22:02 - 22:05I believe it is time for everybody
-
22:05 - 22:11to take back the right
to become happy, strong, and healthy. -
22:12 - 22:17From there, a happy,
strong, and healthy person -
22:17 - 22:20is able to learn just like that flower,
-
22:20 - 22:22to learn to expand in his mind,
-
22:22 - 22:25to co-create with the world,
-
22:25 - 22:28and that's the purpose of life,
-
22:28 - 22:31instead of living in fears and "yakkings"
-
22:32 - 22:34and all these limiting
forces all the time, -
22:34 - 22:40taking your thoughts all the way
up there - da, da, da, da! - -
22:40 - 22:42but not inside here,
-
22:42 - 22:47where we can experience
this happiness, strength, and health. -
22:47 - 22:51But we are able to do this.
-
22:52 - 22:53We have shown this right now,
-
22:53 - 22:58and I'm showing it all the time
with a whole bunch of people, -
22:58 - 23:04regardless of age, and even of disease,
-
23:04 - 23:09to be able to go
beyond physiological borders, -
23:09 - 23:10every time.
-
23:11 - 23:13And what's the clue?
-
23:13 - 23:16I'm trying to get through to you.
-
23:18 - 23:22What am I talking about?
What is my message? -
23:22 - 23:25Because I have no program in my head.
-
23:25 - 23:27I do not know.
-
23:27 - 23:29This is about life.
-
23:29 - 23:33Life is something to be,
you know, worth living. -
23:34 - 23:39The girl who was talking here,
very brave girl, talking. -
23:40 - 23:42It's sort of that.
-
23:42 - 23:46Because we all live in this society.
-
23:46 - 23:49One is happy and one unhappy.
-
23:50 - 23:51One is fitting in the system,
-
23:51 - 23:55and the other one is not fitting in
and he is excluded. -
23:55 - 23:56No!
-
23:56 - 24:01There should be a system
or a way of living for everybody -
24:01 - 24:05to be able to become happy,
strong and healthy. -
24:06 - 24:10No borders, no limits,
they are all within. -
24:11 - 24:16And the freedom felt like a child
who has no borders yet -
24:16 - 24:20because she is taken care of
by love and attention. -
24:21 - 24:25We all, while becoming adults, say,
-
24:25 - 24:28"This mind still wants to be this child"
-
24:28 - 24:35because life, planet Earth -
all of creation is a wonder. -
24:35 - 24:40It is so miraculous
that we can't understand, -
24:40 - 24:42but we can experience.
-
24:42 - 24:47And that experience of expanding
your consciousness is so great. -
24:48 - 24:50If it is withheld
-
24:50 - 24:53because we have to live in this system
-
24:53 - 24:58and make the system work
instead of our happiness, -
24:59 - 25:05then the mind is not able to expand
-
25:05 - 25:08and to go freely like this flower.
-
25:08 - 25:13A flower is very vulnerable.
Our mind is very vulnerable. -
25:13 - 25:17It just wants to bloom and to flower,
-
25:17 - 25:20and that's the most beautiful thing
we could do to each other -
25:20 - 25:25because if we radiate
the right energy from within us - -
25:26 - 25:29we are healthy, strong and happy -
-
25:29 - 25:31we love the next person.
-
25:32 - 25:34Because we radiate this energy.
-
25:34 - 25:36We are energy.
-
25:37 - 25:39And if this energy goes freely again,
-
25:39 - 25:46it is because we cherish
our internal mechanisms -
25:46 - 25:50in the way mother Nature told us.
-
25:50 - 25:53But because of this alienation,
-
25:53 - 25:57we have too much in the head,
in the brain, in this system, -
25:57 - 26:00and we are all connected to this system,
-
26:00 - 26:07but the deeper part
of the brain is neglected. -
26:07 - 26:10The child got neglected.
The wonder got neglected. -
26:10 - 26:15We need pills to become lean
or to expand consciousness a bit. -
26:15 - 26:18And it should not be necessary
-
26:18 - 26:23because we have a beautiful pineal gland,
-
26:25 - 26:27which is actually calcified
-
26:27 - 26:31because of too much
brain activity on the surface. -
26:32 - 26:37It makes us distant
from direct interaction, -
26:37 - 26:43but we showed that adrenaline,
the fight or flight hormone, -
26:43 - 26:48can be generated in just 20 minutes
-
26:48 - 26:51to a level more than -
-
26:51 - 26:54Oh yes, hello!
I have to finish, I think. -
26:54 - 26:56(Laughter)
-
26:57 - 26:59So, last thing.
-
26:59 - 27:04We are able to do a whole lot more
than we think or thought, -
27:04 - 27:07even beyond what is scientifically stated.
-
27:07 - 27:09Just go for that!
-
27:09 - 27:11(Applause) (Cheers)

Wim Hof discusses our natural ability to connect mind and body in order to influence our immune and hormonal system from within. With a simple breathing technique and focus, we are able to regain our intrinsic happy, strong and healthy nature by reactivating the mind-body connection that we have lost. "We are all able to do this," he said, "that's great news!"
Wim Hof is a Dutch world record holder, more commonly known as the Iceman, due to his unique ability to withstand extreme cold. He is best known for his twenty world records, including the longest ice bath, staying immersed in ice for over 1 hour and 13 minutes. He describes his ability as being able to “turn his own body's thermostat up” with the power of his mind. Some of his other impressive feats are climbing to 7.3 km altitude at Mount Everest wearing nothing but shorts, a full marathon above the polar circle in Finland in shorts, and a marathon through the Namib desert without water. It has been scientifically proven that Wim is able to directly influence his autonomic nervous and immune system. Wim Hof is a fervent advocate of his discovery of brain-body connection through breathing techniques and focus, in order to fight against physical and psychological diseases in the world and recover our true strong, happy and healthy intrinsic nature.
