DjangoCon US 2015 - Coding Like a Girl by Gabriela D'Ávilla

  • Not Synced
    Hello, I'm Gabi
  • Not Synced
    Actually, it's Gabriela
  • Not Synced
But it's kinda hard to speak my name in english, so Gabi is fine
  • Not Synced
I'm brazilian, I came from São Paulo
  • Not Synced
I was the only dot on the world map from something
  • Not Synced
    From Brazil there
  • Not Synced
    So that's me
  • Not Synced
I would like first to thank the organizers
  • Not Synced
for being so aware of diversity
  • Not Synced
that they bring me here to help you
  • Not Synced
    to improve the discussion
  • Not Synced
I will say that I'm pretty impressed
  • Not Synced
by the amout of women that I saw
  • Not Synced
    at this conference
  • Not Synced
I used to see 10 women out of 200
  • Not Synced
in some conferences that I went to
  • Not Synced
    and Jeff just showed me
  • Not Synced
that we have about 21% of women
  • Not Synced
    I think it's almost 90 women here
  • Not Synced
So, that's nice, nice to see that
  • Not Synced
    So, thank you again
  • Not Synced
    and congratulations for the effort
  • Not Synced
    A little about me
  • Not Synced
    You don't know me
  • Not Synced
I'm not a Django developer, not a Python developer
  • Not Synced
    I'm a PHP developer
  • Not Synced
I work sometimes with node too
  • Not Synced
    I also don't have a degree in
  • Not Synced
    women studies or anthropology
  • Not Synced
All of this is from my own interest in the subject
  • Not Synced
I have a passion for technology
  • Not Synced
I'm a major in digital game development
  • Not Synced
But I don't work with that
  • Not Synced
    I'm a web developer, as I said
  • Not Synced
And I usually, in my spare time
  • Not Synced
    I play with Legos
  • Not Synced
I have like, 25 thousand pieces
  • Not Synced
So.. Yeah.. Yeah.. That's a lot
  • Not Synced
I know, I'm a little overboard on that
  • Not Synced
But, there's this new Lego set
  • Not Synced
    There's this Kwik-E-Mart, from Simpsons
  • Not Synced
I wanna buy it, but, trying not to
  • Not Synced
    It's hard, but let's see
  • Not Synced
So, what to expect from this talk
  • Not Synced
    I wanna talk about diversity
  • Not Synced
And how bias can influentiate our decisions
  • Not Synced
And what do I mean "like a girl"
  • Not Synced
    Some companies diversity reports
  • Not Synced
And how diversity is important to a company
  • Not Synced
    And some initiatives
  • Not Synced
    that are made into some
  • Not Synced
    or sponsored by other companies
  • Not Synced
I don't wanna talk abot how
  • Not Synced
one gender is different from another
  • Not Synced
That's not what this is about
  • Not Synced
    And.. This is about how
  • Not Synced
    both genders working together
  • Not Synced
    can make a better workplace
