Wretched: That Woman is Mad at Christians

  • 0:00 - 0:04
I think it's wonderful that you have come
here to place blame and guilt upon us.
  • 0:05 - 0:06
I think it's wonderful that you have
  • 0:06 - 0:10
    reminded us just how face
    and vile that we are.
  • 0:10 - 0:13
    And I think, sir,
that Christ would be quite pleased
  • 0:13 - 0:18
with you, because he did come to our world
and he did say, get up on a stage,
  • 0:18 - 0:21
    talk to people in Masses,
tell them how awful they are.
  • 0:21 - 0:24
    Don't get on your knees
    and wash their feet.
  • 0:24 - 0:26
Don't pick up the prospects puts off
  • 0:26 - 0:28
    of the street and help
    them better their lives.
  • 0:28 - 0:30
Don't go down here to downtown, sir,
  • 0:30 - 0:34
and take your fancy coat off and give
it to a homeless man that needs it.
  • 0:34 - 0:36
Don't give him that lot of money
  • 0:36 - 0:40
that you've held in your hand this entire
time that you've been on the stage, okay?
  • 0:40 - 0:44
Why don't you take all of that you have go
  • 0:44 - 0:47
down there, sir, and give us
    a demonstration of Christianity.
  • 0:47 - 0:52
    Because Christ did not say,
get on this podium and say as I say.
  • 0:52 - 0:54
He said, do as I do.
  • 0:54 - 0:57
And I don't see you out here
    helping us with our homework.
  • 0:57 - 1:00
I don't see you giving us advice on how we
  • 1:00 - 1:02
    should live our lives,
    how we should have meaningful,
  • 1:03 - 1:05
    committed relationships with our
    partners of our choice.
  • 1:05 - 1:07
I don't see you doing any of this.
  • 1:07 - 1:11
What I see you do is pass judgment,
and that is for God to do.
  • 1:11 - 1:13
    If God exists, that is.
  • 1:13 - 1:14
    It's not yours, sir.
  • 1:15 - 1:16
    Work on yourself.
  • 1:16 - 1:19
Work on your world, work on your
    community, work on your kids.
  • 1:19 - 1:23
    They're going to need it.
And that is all I have to say.
  • 1:23 - 1:30
Okay, well, ignoring the fact that she
just judged me for judging people
  • 1:30 - 1:34
    and assuming, of course,
that Christians do none of those things,
  • 1:34 - 1:38
like build homeless shelters and adopt
more kids than people who are not
  • 1:39 - 1:42
Christians do and who give more
than people who are not Christians.
  • 1:42 - 1:44
Despite all those evidences of salt
  • 1:44 - 1:47
    and light, christians
    are the adopting people.
  • 1:47 - 1:49
    Christians are the feeding people.
  • 1:49 - 1:52
Christians are the people who are
    taking care of the homeless.
  • 1:52 - 1:52
    And you know what, though?
  • 1:52 - 1:55
    I will tell you this,
    christians are still sinners.
  • 1:55 - 1:57
I'll tell you that for a fact.
  • 1:57 - 2:00
Look, if I've given the impression
by the way, this is about $4.
  • 2:00 - 2:04
    If I've given the impression
that I'm better than you, I'm sorry.
  • 2:04 - 2:07
Because I did not come here to tell
you that I'm better than you.
  • 2:07 - 2:11
That's the last thing I'll tell
you what I will proclaim to you.
  • 2:11 - 2:15
I am hands down, the worst
    person here right now.
  • 2:15 - 2:16
    I'm telling you,
  • 2:16 - 2:20
I will go to the mattresses or the mats
on that one wrestling with you.
  • 2:20 - 2:22
    I am the worst person.
  • 2:22 - 2:25
If there is anybody in this place
right now that is a sinner, it is.
  • 2:25 - 2:28
I'll take myself through the committee.
  • 2:28 - 2:29
Do you want to hear something amazing?
  • 2:29 - 2:31
Do you think I'm an arrogant jerk?
    Okay.
  • 2:31 - 2:32
I used to be even worse.
  • 2:32 - 2:35
If you can imagine that I
actually studied to be a pastor.
  • 2:35 - 2:39
    And you know what?
I wasn't even a Christian at the time.
  • 2:39 - 2:40
But anybody who didn't measure up
  • 2:40 - 2:44
to my theological standard, I thought I
was superior, and I was a better person.
  • 2:44 - 2:48
I was an arrogant slime ball.
    Oh, man.
  • 2:48 - 2:51
I'm telling you, I would take
advantage of you in a heartbeat.
  • 2:51 - 2:54
    I'd get your money,
get something I wanted from you.
  • 2:54 - 2:56
    I'm telling you,
I'm the worst of the worst.
  • 2:56 - 3:00
My thought life, if you could look inside
of my brain, it is so disgusting and vile.
  • 3:00 - 3:02
I'm not here to tell you
    I'm better than you.
  • 3:02 - 3:04
You want to look at my
    track record of life?
  • 3:04 - 3:06
    You're right.
    I don't feed enough people.
  • 3:06 - 3:08
    I don't adopt enough people.
    You're right.
  • 3:08 - 3:10
    I don't.
I don't help you with your homework.
  • 3:10 - 3:13
    I don't.
    And you know what?
  • 3:13 - 3:15
    I'm a bad person.
  • 3:15 - 3:18
I was in the bottom of the barrel,
  • 3:18 - 3:22
and God saw fit to scrape
down and save me a sinner.
  • 3:22 - 3:26
So if I gave you the impression I'm
superior, I'm sorry, because I'm not.
  • 3:26 - 3:29
I am a beggar who has been shown bread.
  • 3:29 - 3:31
    I was thirsty, and God
    gave me living water.
  • 3:31 - 3:34
And the only reason I came here
was to simply share with you.
  • 3:34 - 3:36
There is something amazing out there
  • 3:36 - 3:41
called the Good News of Jesus Christ
    that God died for sinners.
  • 3:41 - 3:43
Why would I come here today?
  • 3:43 - 3:44
    I'm not asking for money.
  • 3:44 - 3:46
I'm not taking up a collection.
  • 3:46 - 3:49
I'm not looking to sign anybody
    up for my Twitter account.
  • 3:49 - 3:52
I'm here to simply I'm going to leave, and
then you're not going to see me anymore.
  • 3:52 - 3:53
I'm not getting anything out of this
  • 3:53 - 3:57
    but to share with you
something that I know is true.
  • 3:57 - 3:59
I know this to be true.
  • 3:59 - 4:02
    God died for sinners.
  • 4:02 - 4:03
    That's how good he is.
  • 4:03 - 4:06
    He died for you,
and I came to proclaim it today.
  • 4:06 - 4:09
    I know the reputation
    of Christianity is bad.
  • 4:09 - 4:10
I know we don't feed enough.
  • 4:10 - 4:11
    That's our problem.
  • 4:11 - 4:13
We don't say enough good things.
  • 4:13 - 4:14
    That's our problem.
  • 4:14 - 4:17
    We don't go overseas
    and malaria and people die.
  • 4:17 - 4:19
    We don't do enough.
  • 4:19 - 4:20
But it's even worse than that.
  • 4:20 - 4:22
It's not just the stuff we fail to do.
  • 4:23 - 4:25
    Those are sins of omission.
  • 4:25 - 4:28
    Consider our sins of commission.
  • 4:28 - 4:33
How many evil things have you done?
  • 4:33 - 4:35
    Okay, let me ask you,
    and I asked this gently.
  • 4:35 - 4:38
How many poor people have you fed the day?
  • 4:38 - 4:41
How many orphans did you adopt today?
  • 4:41 - 4:42
How many strangers did you want?
  • 4:42 - 4:45
    Have you helped anybody
    with their homework today?
  • 4:45 - 4:48
If we're going to use that standard,
    we are all falling short.
  • 4:48 - 4:50
    That's the point.
  • 4:50 - 4:54
We don't do what we should, and the things
that we shouldn't do, we do.
  • 4:54 - 4:55
    That is our problem.
  • 4:55 - 5:00
And is there anything today that we can
agree with, that nobody does enough good?
  • 5:00 - 5:02
    Can we agree with that?
    Right?
  • 5:02 - 5:05
Can we also agree that we
all do things that are bad?
  • 5:05 - 5:06
You don't have to admit them.
  • 5:06 - 5:08
I don't need to see your resume.
  • 5:08 - 5:10
But do we not all lust?
  • 5:10 - 5:12
    Do we not all lie?
  • 5:12 - 5:15
Do we not all take things
    that don't belong to us?
  • 5:15 - 5:17
Downloading music or answers from somebody
  • 5:17 - 5:20
else or a pencil we don't
    return to somebody's office?
  • 5:20 - 5:24
Did we not all dishonor our parents
by being little snotty kids who didn't
  • 5:24 - 5:27
    disobey or threw a tantrum
and fell down on the floor?
  • 5:27 - 5:29
    Or how's about the fact
    that you look at pornography?
  • 5:29 - 5:32
Does that not dishonor your mom and dad?
  • 5:32 - 5:34
Think of what all the things that you've
  • 5:34 - 5:39
done, and God will make sure
that you receive what you deserve.
  • 5:39 - 5:40
    It's as simple as that.
  • 5:40 - 5:42
    Justice will be done.
  • 5:42 - 5:44
    It is certain.
  • 5:44 - 5:45
    It's called Judgment Day.
  • 5:45 - 5:49
    But before that day comes,
you have a chance to be forgiven.
  • 5:49 - 5:53
    Because the punishment you deserve,
    jesus Christ took for you.
  • 5:53 - 5:54
    The death that you deserve.
  • 5:54 - 5:56
    Jesus died for you.
  • 5:56 - 5:59
And you can trust Him because he
rose from the dead defeating death.
  • 5:59 - 6:02
And you don't have to be
    scared to meet God anymore.
  • 6:02 - 6:03
You don't have to be scared of the grave.
  • 6:03 - 6:08
He will forgive you if you will repent
and put your trust in Him today.
  • 6:08 - 6:11
And all of your sins will be forgiven.
  • 6:11 - 6:16
If you are terrified to witness to a loved
one who is enslaved, you are qualified.
  • 6:16 - 6:16
    Why?
  • 6:16 - 6:20
    Paul came to the Corinthians
    with fear and much trembling.
  • 6:20 - 6:23
Now it's time to get equipped.
    Terrified.
  • 6:23 - 6:27
    A Witness manual and witness
encounters with a Baxter and Baptist.
  • 6:27 - 6:29
    A Lukewarm lutheran?
    Atheist.
  • 6:29 - 6:31
    Agnostics.
  • 6:31 - 6:37
So you can learn how to witness
    and share your furiously.
