  • 0:01 - 0:03
Voiceover: The goal of this video
    is to essentially write down
  • 0:03 - 0:08
    all the numbers in order
    from zero to a 100.
  • 0:08 - 0:10
But I’m going to do it in
    an interesting way, a way
  • 0:10 - 0:12
    that maybe will allow
    us to see some patterns
  • 0:12 - 0:14
    in the numbers themselves.
  • 0:14 - 0:20
So let me just start, so I’m
gonna start at zero, one, two,
  • 0:20 - 0:30
    three, four, five, six,
    seven. eight, and nine,
  • 0:30 - 0:32
and instead of, of course we
know the next number is 10,
  • 0:32 - 0:35
    which I could write down
    but instead of doing that
  • 0:35 - 0:38
    I’m just going to copy
    and paste all of this.
  • 0:38 - 0:44
So copy and paste all of that
and see what this does for us.
  • 0:44 - 0:47
So if I do that, how does that help us?
  • 0:47 - 0:49
Well we know the next number is 10,
  • 0:49 - 0:50
which one way to think about it is,
  • 0:50 - 0:53
    it’s a one followed by a zero.
  • 0:53 - 0:54
    What’s the number after that?
  • 0:54 - 0:57
    Well it’s 11, which is
a one followed by a one.
  • 0:57 - 0:58
    What’s the number after that?
  • 0:58 - 1:00
    Well it’s a 12, which is
a one followed by a two,
  • 1:00 - 1:08
    and then 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19.
  • 1:08 - 1:10
    Well that was pretty neat.
  • 1:10 - 1:13
    This next row of numbers
    as I went from 10 to 19
  • 1:13 - 1:15
looked just like the first ones,
  • 1:15 - 1:17
so the 2nd number is the same in yellow,
  • 1:17 - 1:20
but then I added a purple
one to the front of it.
  • 1:20 - 1:23
And one way to think about
it is, each of these numbers,
  • 1:23 - 1:27
    the purple one that I
    added, that represents 10.
  • 1:27 - 1:31
So 11 could be viewed as 10 plus one,
  • 1:31 - 1:35
12 could be viewed as 10 plus two.
  • 1:35 - 1:38
Let’s see if this keeps working.
  • 1:38 - 1:41
So let’s take another row of numbers.
  • 1:41 - 1:43
    So let’s take another
    row , my original row,
  • 1:43 - 1:46
and what do I get to after 19?
  • 1:46 - 1:51
Well of course after 19 we get to 20.
  • 1:51 - 2:04
So 20, two zero and then 21,
    22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29.
  • 2:04 - 2:06
    I think you might start
    to see the pattern here.
  • 2:06 - 2:08
What are we gonna do for the next row?
  • 2:08 - 2:11
Well now we’re in the 30s.
  • 2:11 - 2:15
So the first number 30 is 30 plus zero,
  • 2:15 - 2:19
30 plus one, 30 plus two,
30 plus three which is 33,
  • 2:19 - 2:26
    34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39.
  • 2:26 - 2:29
So just doing that I think
    you already see the pattern.
  • 2:29 - 2:33
The number on the right we
keep going from zero, one, two,
  • 2:33 - 2:34
    three, four, five, six, seven,
  • 2:34 - 2:37
    eight, nine, and then
    the number on the left,
  • 2:37 - 2:40
    if we’re between 10 and 19,
    you’ll always have a one.
  • 2:40 - 2:42
    If you’re between 20 and 29,
    you’ll always have a two.
  • 2:42 - 2:47
    If you’re between 30 and 39,
    you’ll always have a three.
  • 2:47 - 2:48
Now how can I complete this
  • 2:48 - 2:51
going all the way to 99 pretty fast?
  • 2:51 - 2:54
    Well let’s do that, so
that’s going to be my 40s,
  • 2:54 - 2:57
I haven’t written it out yet.
  • 2:57 - 3:02
That’s going to be my 50s,
this is going to be my 60s,
  • 3:04 - 3:13
    70s, 80s, and then I have
    my 90s right over here.
  • 3:13 - 3:19
And so this one we already said
this is going to be my 40s,
  • 3:19 - 3:24
this is going to be my
50s, this is going to be,
  • 3:24 - 3:28
I’m trying to make sure I
use all my colors, my 60s,
  • 3:28 - 3:33
this is going to be my 70s,
and then I have my 80s,
  • 3:33 - 3:39
and then of course I have
my, let me do a color that,
  • 3:39 - 3:43
    I’ll re-use magenta, I’ll have my 90s.
  • 3:43 - 3:45
So what if I woulda just take this,
  • 3:45 - 3:48
so let me just take this right over here,
  • 3:48 - 3:50
    and copy and paste that.
  • 3:50 - 3:53
So copy, and then let me paste it.
  • 3:53 - 3:58
    So now I have 41, 51, 61, 71, 81, and 91.
  • 3:58 - 4:03
Now I can do it over here,
    42, 52, 62, 72, 82, and 92.
  • 4:03 - 4:07
And I can do it for each of
these, for each of these now.
  • 4:07 - 4:12
    So that’s, now, 44,
    54, 64, 74, 84, and 94.
  • 4:12 - 4:16
And so when I do that
    we see the full pattern.
  • 4:16 - 4:20
    We see the full pattern
    and I’m almost done.
  • 4:20 - 4:29
    I’m almost done filling in
my numbers from zero to 99.
  • 4:29 - 4:34
    49, 59,69,79,89,99 and if
    we just wanna feel good,
  • 4:34 - 4:41
    we could throw in, we
    could throw in a 100,
  • 4:41 - 4:45
    a 100 right over there.
  • 4:45 - 4:47
    And you’ll see the pattern
still holds, we went from one,
  • 4:47 - 4:50
    two, three, four, five,
    six, seven, eight, nine,
  • 4:50 - 4:55
and now we got to 10 followed by a zero.
  • 4:55 - 4:57
    That was pretty neat.
