The windows of perception | Waldemar Falcão | TEDxVilaMadáSalon
-
0:15 - 0:19(Video) He's a musician,
astrologer, writer, -
0:20 - 0:26but I would describe him
as someone with an inner light. -
0:26 - 0:32I think he's really someone
from the New Age, -
0:32 - 0:35from a generation
that experienced everything, -
0:35 - 0:39that lived and incorporated everything;
-
0:39 - 0:42somebody deeply spiritualized.
-
0:42 - 0:48I recently got to know a side of him
which I found very moving, -
0:48 - 0:52which is his extreme affection
and pride toward his children. -
0:52 - 0:59He's a very cherished person
in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the world. -
0:59 - 1:04Waldemar Falcão, flutist of Merlin,
come here and tell us your stories. -
1:04 - 1:06(Video ends)
-
1:06 - 1:09Waldemar Falcão: Wow,
that’s some responsibility! -
1:10 - 1:16A few days ago a friend of mine
published on social network -
1:16 - 1:19a photo that had a humorous intent,
-
1:19 - 1:23but which gave me an idea for my talk.
-
1:23 - 1:26It was of a young man
sitting on a park bench, -
1:26 - 1:31wearing a coat and hood,
and a very sad, dispirited face. -
1:32 - 1:36Below it was written:
"If you’re feeling alone, -
1:36 - 1:40remember that there are trillions
of bacteria inside your body, -
1:40 - 1:43and that you represent the world to them."
-
1:44 - 1:47We're unaware of this.
-
1:47 - 1:52We don't see the life
that's going on around us, -
1:52 - 1:58because we only capture life
through our five usual senses. -
1:58 - 2:03But it’s much more than this
- much, much more. -
2:03 - 2:06One example we have of this
-
2:09 - 2:14are the sayings by some
of the greatest visionaries -
2:14 - 2:16our world has ever known.
-
2:17 - 2:19William Shakespeare once said:
-
2:19 - 2:22"There are more things
in heaven and earth -
2:22 - 2:25than are dreamt of in your philosophy."
-
2:26 - 2:30Another great person, William Blake,
-
2:30 - 2:34poet, visionary,
graphic artist, illustrator, -
2:34 - 2:37and most of all a great visionary,
-
2:37 - 2:41once said, "If the doors
of perception were cleansed, -
2:41 - 2:45everything would appear
to man as it is, infinite." -
2:45 - 2:48And he wrote a beautiful poem,
-
2:48 - 2:50that I'm fortunate enough
to have the translation of, -
2:50 - 2:54done by a great friend of mine,
here in São Paulo, Alberto Marsicano, -
2:54 - 2:58who recently transitioned
to the higher realms. -
2:58 - 3:01He did an admirable translation
-
3:01 - 3:03of one of the most beautiful verses
by William Blake: -
3:03 - 3:10"To see a world in a grain of sand
and a heaven in a wild flower, -
3:10 - 3:15hold infinity in the palm of your hand
and eternity in an hour." -
3:16 - 3:19I then went in search of another level
of information, not so poetic, -
3:19 - 3:23- though I'll still have
the help of some poets here - -
3:23 - 3:28which is the illustration
of the electromagnetic spectrum. -
3:30 - 3:35Look how much we can see
-
3:35 - 3:37of the electromagnetic spectrum.
-
3:37 - 3:39It's a microscopic fraction.
-
3:39 - 3:43Before it we have the radio
and microwave frequencies, -
3:43 - 3:45after it comes the X-rays,
the ultraviolet, the gamma rays. -
3:45 - 3:48None of this can be seen by us.
-
3:48 - 3:52Right at this moment, there are
all these waves passing by us; -
3:52 - 3:58electromagnetic and neutrino waves,
-
3:58 - 4:01which we're not aware of.
-
4:02 - 4:06So it’s important for us to understand
-
4:06 - 4:10that life is going on around us,
and we need to pay attention to it. -
4:10 - 4:15There's no way that we can't see
what's going on. -
4:16 - 4:19So, besides those citations,
how did I get to this conclusion? -
4:19 - 4:23During my life I've had
the privilege of knowing... -
4:23 - 4:26and I still have this privilege,
though not with the same ones, -
4:26 - 4:30of knowing people
who are considered "paranormal", -
4:30 - 4:34people who see beyond what we see.
-
4:34 - 4:39One of them was a surgeon
who never studied medicine, -
4:40 - 4:47who operated people using
any sharp instrument he could get hold of. -
4:47 - 4:49And what did he do
so that people wouldn’t feel pain? -
4:49 - 4:51He used music.
-
4:52 - 4:56He always had a musician
playing during the sessions, -
4:56 - 5:00and Lourival opened, closed,
sewed up the person; -
5:00 - 5:04opened with a razor blade,
with a kitchen knife or nail scissors. -
5:04 - 5:07The person was wide awake
and felt nothing. -
5:08 - 5:12Another one who died about six years ago,
-
5:12 - 5:15with whom I had the privilege
to know for 25 years, -
5:16 - 5:21received messages from people
who had already gone to another dimension. -
5:22 - 5:26He received those messages
with an absurd level of precision, -
5:26 - 5:32giving their addresses, phone numbers,
license plates, or other numbers. -
5:33 - 5:38Through this acquaintanceship,
without any clairvoyant ability of my own, -
5:38 - 5:44I was able to see all this,
though not necessarily with my eyes. -
5:45 - 5:50The Kabbalistic tradition, for example,
says that we only see 1% of reality, -
5:51 - 5:54and that if we could see 2% we'd go crazy.
-
5:55 - 5:57I'm not suggesting here
that anyone should go crazy. -
5:57 - 5:58(Laughter)
-
5:58 - 6:04Eastern traditions, especially Hinduism
and Tibetan Buddhism, -
6:04 - 6:08say that we live behind a veil
that they call "Maya", -
6:08 - 6:11the veil of illusion of material life.
-
6:11 - 6:14We have to tear that veil off.
-
6:14 - 6:20We have to try to see beyond
what we sense in our daily lives, -
6:20 - 6:23because then our everyday
problems, our difficulties, -
6:23 - 6:27the problem with
a sick relative, or with money, -
6:27 - 6:31takes on another dimension,
another proportion. -
6:32 - 6:36You might say: "Wow,
you're proposing a kind of utopia." -
6:36 - 6:38And I say, "Yes I am."
-
6:38 - 6:40Utopias keep us alive,
-
6:41 - 6:47and I'll use the words
of a great gaucho poet, Mario Quintana, -
6:47 - 6:51who wrote a little poem
called "Das Utopias" -
6:51 - 6:53in which he said:
-
6:53 - 6:59"If things are unattainable,
that is no reason not to want them. -
6:59 - 7:02How sad the paths would be
-
7:02 - 7:05were it not for the magical
presence of the stars." -
7:05 - 7:08So what I'm suggesting here
-
7:08 - 7:12is that we open up the windows
to our perception, -
7:12 - 7:14and that we always make the effort.
-
7:14 - 7:18There's nothing paranormal about this,
it's an existential matter. -
7:18 - 7:22Let's look at life
from a broader perspective. -
7:22 - 7:24Let's go and open those windows.
-
7:24 - 7:28I'm going to cite another great poet,
-
7:28 - 7:32the greatest Portuguese language
poet, Fernando Pessoa, -
7:32 - 7:35in the writings of his
heteronym Alberto Caeiro; -
7:35 - 7:40the first of his "Selected Poems"
where he says: -
7:40 - 7:44"It’s not enough to open the window
to see the fields and the river. -
7:44 - 7:49It’s not enough to not be blind
to see the trees and the flowers. -
7:49 - 7:52It's also necessary to have no philosophy.
-
7:52 - 7:56With philosophy there are no trees,
there are only ideas. -
7:56 - 7:59There is only each one of us, like a cave.
-
7:59 - 8:04There is only a closed window,
and the whole world outside, -
8:04 - 8:08and a dream of what could be seen
if the window is open, -
8:08 - 8:11which is never what you see
when you open the window." -
8:11 - 8:12Thank you very much.
-
8:12 - 8:15(Applause)

In his talk, Waldemar Falcão talks about opening up the windows of our perception to see a reality that normally our vision doesn't allow us to see. "We don't see the life that's going on around us because we only capture life through our five usual senses, but it’s much more than that;
much, much more.Waldemar Falcão is an astrologer, writer, and musician.
