9:07 - 9:11thousands of years it is now possible in

9:11 - 9:12fact it has happened to us in the last

9:12 - 9:15few decades it is not possible to

9:15 - 9:18traverse many millions of years in
-
9:18 - 9:22seconds by putting evolutionary
-
9:22 - 9:24extensions of ourselves outside as
-
9:24 - 9:27environments as teaching machines the
-
9:27 - 9:28man-made environments that are now
-
9:28 - 9:32Planetary are in terms of evolutionary
-
9:32 - 9:38development a greater step than anything
-
9:38 - 9:40that ever happened to our biological
-
9:40 - 9:45lives in the whole biological past just
-
9:45 - 9:47because they are environments they're
-
9:47 - 9:49invisible and this is a peculiarity
-
9:49 - 9:50that's one answer the meaning of that
-
9:50 - 9:53message to the fish or the we don't know
-
9:53 - 9:54who discovered water but we're sure it
-
9:54 - 9:56wasn't efficient one thing that is
-
9:56 - 10:00always invisible to occupants is the
-
10:00 - 10:03environment what stands out loud and
-
10:03 - 10:04clear is the
-
10:04 - 10:08old environment where view mirror so

10:08 - 10:11that to the TV operator is the movie

10:57 - 11:01under-20 ones utterly confused by the

11:05 - 11:06encounter is entertainment and the

11:06 - 11:11environment of the schoolroom this

11:11 - 11:16confusion is on a bigger scale if you

11:16 - 11:22like repeated in the Vietnam business

11:22 - 11:26Vietnam is getting a Western treatment

11:26 - 11:30it's getting a thoroughly massive

11:30 - 11:33educational program we put our whole

11:33 - 11:36mechanical industrial environment around

11:36 - 11:41them as an educational machine this is

11:41 - 11:44what Julius Caesar did with the Huns

11:44 - 11:48Alexander the Great did war as an

11:48 - 11:50educational institution is the most

11:50 - 11:53powerful because it bill deals with the

11:53 - 11:55whole environment in action as an

11:55 - 11:59educational teaching machine and

12:00 - 12:04somebody or other gets the message but

12:04 - 12:06what we are doing in Vietnam is using

12:06 - 12:08the old 19th century machine program for

12:08 - 12:10the Orient what we're doing to ourselves

12:10 - 12:14is orientalizing ourselves by our own

12:14 - 12:17latest technology instead of the Eldar

12:17 - 12:17trip

12:17 - 12:22the integer instead of individual

12:22 - 12:29specialism integral organic involvement

12:29 - 12:32the TV world and the lake world of

12:32 - 12:36electric circuitry automatically ensures

13:39 - 13:4320th the 19th century was the old

13:43 - 13:45machine age of fragmentation literacy

13:45 - 13:50and specialism the one that the liberal
-
13:50 - 13:56mind has never got beyond it's never

13:56 - 14:00studied the layered environment its

14:00 - 14:04literate visual detached non-involved
-
14:04 - 14:07the visual man is the only detached
-
14:07 - 14:09human being that ever lived on this
-
14:09 - 14:13planet all the other senses except sight
-
14:13 - 14:18smell hearing touch movement these are
-
14:18 - 14:22involving and they are discontinuous and
-
14:22 - 14:25unconnected
-
14:26 - 14:31only the electronic permits a total
-
14:31 - 14:35encounter with the discontinuous the
-
14:35 - 14:39disconnected the world of the
-
14:39 - 14:42discontinuity came in most vividly with
-
14:42 - 14:45the Telegraph in the newspaper the

14:45 - 14:47stories in the newspaper are completely

14:47 - 14:48discontinuous because they're

14:48 - 14:50simultaneous they're all under one

15:52 - 15:56environment itself as evolutionary

15:56 - 15:59Darwin is a literate 19th century man

15:59 - 16:01and never he had no information of the

16:01 - 16:04electronic information circuit or in
-
16:04 - 16:08total human environment of information
-
16:08 - 16:13so where I are dejardines a little more

16:13 - 16:16aware of the meaning of the electronic

16:16 - 16:20then Darwin could possibly have been but

16:20 - 16:22that's a perfect example of the rear

17:12 - 17:14preference over the programming of that

17:14 - 17:18environment that rational man may really

17:18 - 17:21get his first innings out of this

17:21 - 17:27computerized university up till now he's

17:27 - 17:29been a kind of little straw blown around

17:29 - 17:34by the technology one of the reasons why
-
17:34 - 17:37we can now notice these environments
-
17:37 - 17:39generated by new technologies is that
-
17:39 - 17:40they yield to one another so rapidly
-
17:40 - 17:43that it's almost impossible not to
-
17:43 - 17:45notice the changing of the scene or the
-
17:45 - 17:50guard or something but no previous human
-
17:50 - 17:53age ever understood the effect of these
-
17:53 - 17:56human endeavors on the environment as
-
17:56 - 17:59they affected that age they always
-
17:59 - 18:01understood the effect on the previous
-
18:01 - 18:05age but never the effect on themselves
-
18:05 - 18:09the history of utopias is the history of
-
18:09 - 18:15rearview mirrors every utopia is a
-
18:15 - 18:17picture of the preceding age like
-
18:17 - 18:23Bonanza land there is never a utopia
-
18:23 - 18:28that copes with the present any present
-
18:29 - 18:31man seems to have this built-in device
-
18:31 - 18:34of rearview mirror ISM because he fears
-
18:34 - 18:37this confrontation with the total human

18:37 - 18:40environment the only person who seems to

18:40 - 18:43have virtually encounter and report on

18:44 - 18:48present is the artist and whenever he

18:54 - 18:58always unrecognizable because it is not

19:07 - 19:09operation of these new environments on

19:09 - 19:12our human equipment it then becomes easy

19:12 - 19:18to predict and to forecast the changes

19:18 - 19:22that will take place in many levels of

19:22 - 19:25programming of even of entertainment the
-
19:25 - 19:27end of the star system is automatic with
-
19:27 - 19:32TV the end of baseball it's a star
-
19:32 - 19:34system you can like prizefighting won't

19:34 - 19:39work for TV it's cool it's involving it
-
19:39 - 19:41doesn't permit the flashy blazing-hot

19:41 - 19:51star cooperation the young kids today

21:53 - 21:56connected spaces are not there the

21:56 - 21:58viewer has to supply them that's how he

21:58 - 22:03gets involved however I'm not trying to

22:03 - 22:06present any programs of action or any

22:06 - 22:08directions of action

22:08 - 22:10I'm really trying to suggest ways of

22:10 - 22:13perceiving the situation we have
-
22:13 - 22:22developed for ourselves I have them as I

22:22 - 22:23listen to Ralph

22:23 - 22:26I was recalled another communication

25:56 - 26:02survive now the organization charges is

26:02 - 26:05as a dentist as baseball and for the

26:05 - 26:08same reasons one thing at a time

26:08 - 26:11baseball can't live in a TV age because
-
26:11 - 26:12there's one play at a time one pitch one
-
26:12 - 26:17hit one catch won't work in an all at
-
26:17 - 26:20once world one thing at a time won't
-
26:20 - 26:22work on the job front or on the sports
-
26:22 - 26:29player but them or the educational front
-
26:29 - 26:31I'm trying to be helpful here I'm not
-
26:31 - 26:35trying to just put on an act I wish
-
26:35 - 26:37somebody had told me some of these
-
26:37 - 26:39things a few years ago it's been
-
26:39 - 26:41exciting to discover them but also feel

27:08 - 27:10two totally different kinds of human
