Stage 8 Practice Schedule (Guitar Lesson BC-189) Guitar for beginners Stage 8
-
0:04 - 0:07You've made it ! You are at end of stage 8.
-
0:07 - 0:09There's only one more stage to go.
-
0:09 - 0:12Bad news is there's a lot of stuff to do in this stage
-
0:12 - 0:16so you now up to 50 minute a day practice routine.
-
0:16 - 0:18Now, for many of you, that's going to be too much
-
0:18 - 0:20so do feel free to chop it in the half
-
0:20 - 0:23so you got two 25min practice routine
-
0:23 - 0:25in alternating days that you are doing what.
-
0:25 - 0:26It doesn't really matter,
-
0:26 - 0:28there's not a specific exercise that you
-
0:28 - 0:29should do before other ones.
-
0:29 - 0:31So its really up to you
-
0:31 - 0:33to choose which ones you fancy doing when.
-
0:33 - 0:36So what have we got on the routine for this stage?
-
0:36 - 0:37We have first of all :
-
0:37 - 0:40memorizing notes on the thickest two strings
-
0:40 - 0:415 mins.
-
0:41 - 0:42That's really important.
-
0:42 - 0:43So now you are looking at the notes
-
0:43 - 0:45on the 6th string and the 5th string.
-
0:45 - 0:46All the way from the nut
-
0:46 - 0:48all the way up to the 12th fret.
-
0:48 - 0:51So a really good little game you can play
-
0:51 - 0:53is just literally put a finger on a note
-
0:53 - 0:55on one of the.. whatever fret you like
-
0:55 - 0:57on one of the two thicker strings, and go
-
0:57 - 0:58Oh ! What's that one ? Oh, it's a G
-
0:58 - 1:00And up here ? oh that's a ..
-
1:00 - 1:02count them up and go..
-
1:02 - 1:03oh! that one is an F
-
1:03 - 1:06oh that one.. oh.. that's a E Flat whatever
-
1:06 - 1:08or get your friend, your jam buddy or whatever
-
1:08 - 1:10to sit there and point to different notes
-
1:10 - 1:11and you name them.
-
1:11 - 1:12Really good way of doing it
-
1:12 - 1:135 minutes a day.
-
1:13 - 1:14We've got next
-
1:14 - 1:16we've got the minor pentatonic scale
-
1:16 - 1:18and the picking exercise that I showed you
-
1:18 - 1:20so working on the minor pentatonic scale
-
1:20 - 1:22and really working up to doing alternate picking
-
1:22 - 1:24doing all downs, all ups
-
1:24 - 1:25down and up on each note
-
1:25 - 1:27and then alternate picking 5 mins a day.
-
1:27 - 1:29We have chord practice
-
1:29 - 1:30still if you need it
-
1:30 - 1:32you might not need this one
-
1:32 - 1:34so, if all your chords are sounding really sweet now
-
1:34 - 1:36and every note is sounding good, no buzzy stuff
-
1:36 - 1:39you know exactly what notes
you should be playing for what chord -
1:39 - 1:41which is possible
-
1:41 - 1:44but I suspect most of you would still be
-
1:44 - 1:45needing to work on that so
-
1:45 - 1:46make sure that's in there
-
1:46 - 1:48strum, pick out, strum, as usual.
-
1:48 - 1:50You can decide what chords you need to work on the most.
-
1:50 - 1:53Then we have power chords
-
1:53 - 1:57so this time we are working on the C5 power chord,
-
1:57 - 2:00the power chord with the 5th string root
-
2:00 - 2:01so the most important thing again,
-
2:01 - 2:03I know we've just talked about it,
-
2:03 - 2:05but make sure the 6th string is muted,
-
2:05 - 2:07dead! kill dead with the first finger. Right?
-
2:07 - 2:09Really really important.
-
2:09 - 2:11Practice making sure you got the stretch.
-
2:11 - 2:12Practice moving it up and down.
-
2:12 - 2:14Maybe play some riffs and stuff.
-
2:14 - 2:15Lots of fun
-
2:15 - 2:16get cracking with that one.
-
2:16 - 2:18We have then, one minute changes
-
2:18 - 2:20now your one minute changes
-
2:20 - 2:22bit of a free for all this time.
-
2:22 - 2:23You can work on doing your
-
2:23 - 2:26C to your G chord
-
2:26 - 2:29using one of the new G chords.
-
2:29 - 2:31We can work on doing
-
2:31 - 2:34the big G to the little D
-
2:34 - 2:36I'm just checking that that is what
-
2:36 - 2:39we did in stage 8, it was the G chord
-
2:39 - 2:41it was the G chord sorry!
-
2:41 - 2:42Just confusing myself.
-
2:42 - 2:43There's a lot of lessons going on.
-
2:43 - 2:45I wanna make sure I'm giving you the right stuff.
-
2:45 - 2:48and then you would have three blank lessons
-
2:48 - 2:51well..blank one minute changes where you can put in
-
2:51 - 2:53whatever chord changes you think necessary.
-
2:53 - 2:54Cause ???? my laptop down here
-
2:54 - 2:56wrote with a lot of lesson plans
-
2:56 - 2:57And this is just like : oh la la, My God,
-
2:57 - 2:59I'm telling them a wrong thing, I was sure last time
-
2:59 - 3:01but it's not. That's everything was good so far.
-
3:01 - 3:04Ok. then, you should be having your
-
3:04 - 3:05rhythm guitar practice
-
3:05 - 3:06which is all of the patterns
-
3:06 - 3:08you've done so far including pattern #16
-
3:08 - 3:10which is that one where you're
-
3:10 - 3:12hitting the base note independently.
-
3:12 - 3:14Then you have 12bars blues rhythm
-
3:14 - 3:16working on your chanka chanka 12 bar blues
-
3:16 - 3:19getting that chin - kichin- kichin - kichin going on
-
3:19 - 3:22aiming to not have any pauses between the chords
-
3:22 - 3:24that's the big thing you're working on with there.
-
3:24 - 3:26And just trying to get it, so, kind of groovy
-
3:26 - 3:29and swings along nicely,
that will be a really good plan. -
3:29 - 3:31We then have basic fingerstyle practice
-
3:31 - 3:34I told you, there's lot going on in this level
-
3:34 - 3:35so really working on through
-
3:35 - 3:38getting the fingers in, you know, working a little bit
-
3:38 - 3:40trying to make sure they are accurate
-
3:40 - 3:42and they pick the right string at the right time.
-
3:42 - 3:43It's a kind of preparing you up
-
3:43 - 3:45for the next lesson really, that one.
-
3:45 - 3:47Then we have songs and chord progressions.
-
3:47 - 3:49So, whatever songs you are working up to now,
-
3:49 - 3:51and just fiddling about with them,
-
3:51 - 3:52working on them,
-
3:52 - 3:53trying to make them sound cool,
-
3:53 - 3:55good idea to keep on working on these songs.
-
3:55 - 3:57At the end of this beginners course,
-
3:57 - 3:58like next lesson again,
-
3:58 - 3:59we'll talk a little bit more
-
3:59 - 4:01about the emphasis of songs
-
4:01 - 4:02but for now, just still 5min a day
-
4:02 - 4:03working on your songs.
-
4:03 - 4:05And lastly, you've got your optional
-
4:05 - 4:075 mins JUSTIN training exercises
-
4:07 - 4:09which is about ear development
-
4:09 - 4:10working on your ear
-
4:10 - 4:12trying to recognize your chord sounds
-
4:12 - 4:14and some of your rhythms as well now
-
4:14 - 4:16so that stuff is getting a bit more advanced
-
4:16 - 4:18but that's explained in a separate lesson for that.
-
4:18 - 4:20So I hope you are having fun with all of this
-
4:20 - 4:22that's a lot of work you got on this time for this stage
-
4:22 - 4:24so expect to be on this stage
-
4:24 - 4:25for a little while, alright?
-
4:25 - 4:26Don't be rushing it.
-
4:26 - 4:28Much better to be able to do
-
4:28 - 4:29a few things really well
-
4:29 - 4:31than to be able to do a lot of things badly.
-
4:31 - 4:33So just be cool, practice hard
-
4:33 - 4:34keep working at it
-
4:34 - 4:35working regular practice
-
4:35 - 4:36all that stuff
-
4:36 - 4:38and I'll see you when you're ready
-
4:38 - 4:40to meet me in stage nine !
-
4:40 - 4:41the final chapter !
