-
This year, our captain,
leader, legend, is leaving,
-
and it's going to be tough.
-
We've heard the tributes about
how inspirational John has been
-
both on and off
the pitch, and Jody
-
saying-- you know,
people keep asking him
-
when there is going
to be another one.
-
He's not even sure there is
going to be another John Terry,
-
because they don't make
them like John anymore.
-
So before we get
him up here, let
-
us take a look back now together
at 22 incredible John Terry
-
years.
-
[INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC]
-
[CROWD CHEERING]
-
(john terry) Today
is, without a doubt,
-
one of the most difficult
days of my life.
-
(announcer) And John Terry has
scored his first senior goal
-
for Chelsea.
-
They'll never be another JT.
-
He's true blue,
thick and thin.
-
He's one of the main reasons
I'm a football fan today.
-
(john terry) You've given me
everything from the age of 14
-
when I first signed
at this football club.
-
(announcer) Pass to Terry.
-
He's got it back in
his feet this time,
-
and he's bundled it in.
-
(john terry) You've picked
me up when I was down.
-
You've sung my name
when I've had bad games
-
and disappointed you as well.
-
(announcer) This is going to be
a very special moment indeed.
-
(announcer 2) Terry's
head up and it's in.
-
The captain's done it again.
-
(announcer) 345 games he's
played on these grounds.
-
He's won everything
there is to win.
-
(announcer 3) John
Terry lifts it again.
-
[CHEERING]
-
(announcer) Stamford Bridge
rises to its feet one last time.
-
(john terry) Thank you will
never, ever be enough.
-
(announcer 2) Terry's head up.
-
Again!
-
(john terry) I'll tell
you what, I'm going
-
to come back here one day.
-
I'm going to be supporting
this team and the players
-
for years to come.
-
(announcer 2) Didn't
it have to be John
-
Terry?
-
(john terry) From the bottom of
my heart, thank you so much.
-
I love you all.
-
[CROWD CHEERING]
-
(announcer 2) And
look who scored it.
-
John was a young
lad coming through.
-
I think everyone
could see that he
-
had a great desire
and a great talent.
-
You know, one thing I remember
sticking out with John is that
-
he would go out every day
and he would practise.
-
You know, he knew
his weaknesses,
-
and he was willing to get
better in every department.
-
(announcer 4) 17-year-old
John Terry comes on
-
for his first appearance.
-
I gave him his debut.
-
Everybody could see that he
had a very bright future ahead.
-
He's a leader, and he
takes his team with him.
-
And that quality-- not a
lot of players have that.
-
He's a legend for this club.
-
I was lucky to have
the opportunity
-
to know him very well.
-
In this season, he work very
well on and off the pitch,
-
and it was important for me.
-
I have to give John
a big, big thanks.
-
The biggest
thing I can say is,
-
for me, he's one
of the best that's
-
ever been in this
Premier League,
-
because consistently
playing at the level
-
he's played at for so many
years in the Premier League
-
at the top for Chelsea, and
he's fought off competition year
-
after year after year.
-
John, you are an
idol to the Academy.
-
All you hear is your name
when I was in the Academy just
-
to try and do what you've done.
-
So thank you for
what you've done.
-
Hey, John, Ashley here mate.
-
Congrats on your amazing
and great career.
-
I just want to say a
few words to say what
-
a pleasure it's been
to play alongside you
-
and have you as a friend.
-
I was really honoured to be
your manager for two years.
-
It meant to me a lot.
-
You are a fantastic player.
-
You are a fantastic man.
-
JT has always been a huge fan
of the women's set-up and, you
-
know, whenever we've
asked him for anything,
-
he's given his time,
he's given his energy.
-
John, it's been a privilege
to know you for so long, from 14
-
until now.
-
You deserved everything
you've won at Chelsea.
-
He was a great captain,
a great leader.
-
For me, the greatest
defender in the world of
-
football for huge
periods of your career.
-
I mean, the consistency you've
shown for near on 20 years
-
puts you in the
top, top bracket.
-
(announcer 2) John Terry
is the hero for Chelsea.
-
I hope to you
and to your family
-
all the best for the future.
-
It's been a wonderful
experience for me
-
to witness your
development, and I'm
-
so proud of what you've done.
-
As a mate, thank you
for being there, man.
-
I'm sure we'll stay very
close for a long time.
-
I know how much you
feel for this club.
-
I know how emotional
this will be for you now.
-
Congrats, mate.
-
See you soon.
-
(announcer) Terry attacking it.
-
And again!
-
Inspirational bloke.
-
And thank you very much.
-
Thanks, John,
for the memories.
-
Thank you so much.
-
It's been an honour
and a privilege.
-
Thank you, John.
-
Thank you for being
an absolute legend,
-
and we love you.
-
I'll finish by saying I wish
you well in whatever course
-
you take from now on, for you,
Toni, Georgie, and Summer,
-
do the best yourself, mate,
and you deserve everything.
-
(announcer) John Terry,
thank you and goodbye.
-
The most successful captain
of all time, the one and only,
-
John Terry.
-
[APPLAUSE]
-
[MUSIC - "THEY CALL ME JOHNNY
COOL"]
-
Now, what was great watching
those pictures of you as a 15,
-
16-year-old-- and I gather
this area that we're in
-
has some memories for you.
-
Yes, some pictures
going back a long way.
-
I don't know if you
see the one of me--
-
I think I was age two, I had
the long socks over the knees.
-
That started from a young age.
-
But being at Battersea,
it's quite fitting
-
actually being my last night.
-
I started my career
here at Chelsea,
-
and I had my first ever training
session in Battersea Park
-
with Bob Osborne who we see
on the video, who I thoroughly
-
enjoyed my first session with
and have never looked back.
-
And do you look back
and say certain things
-
will stay with you forever?
-
Certain moments?
-
Chelsea's my life, and
it has been for 22 years.
-
That will never go away.
-
[APPLAUSE]
-
Don't you-- we know
how much it means.
-
[APPLAUSE]
-
The moment that
got me in the video
-
was where you heard the fans.
-
You could talk to them.
-
[CROWD SINGING]
-
I mean, they mean
everything to me
-
and, you know, talking
about memories and moments.
-
You know, big Champions
League nights, big trophies,
-
first trophies for the football
club in 50 years, first title.
-
You know, they're moments that
will live with me forever.
-
So, you know, I'm forever
grateful and thankful to you
-
guys for, as I said in my speech
on the last game of the season,
-
for always, no matter
what, being there for me,
-
and I genuinely couldn't
have done it without you.
-
And, you know, thank
you from my heart.
-
[APPLAUSE]
-
We know that John loves his
golf, and what we hope to do
-
is to spring a surprise
and have one of your mates,
-
Justin Rose here, who is
a Chelsea fan, obviously
-
a massive golfer, to give you
another present this evening.
-
He's been a little busy on
the golf course in the USA.
-
He's playing in the states-- not
playing with Donald Trump he's
-
asked us to point out.
-
So he sends his
apologies, John, and he's
-
asked us to tell
you that he would
-
like you to join him for a
round of golf at Loch Lomond.
-
Are you up for that?
-
Definitely after that.
-
Yeah.
-
We haven't finished
with you yet,
-
John, because there are a couple
of very big fans of yours,
-
possibly your biggest who
came to Stamford Bridge
-
the other day for a
very important meeting
-
about carrying on the
John Terry legacy.
-
Unfortunately, they
got a bit sidetracked
-
when one of your teammates
dropped in on them.
-
So watch this.
-
So here we are,
Georgie and Summer Terry,
-
children of John Terry,
captain league legend.
-
Alongside, Geezer, David Luiz.
-
And David, what are
you going to do today?
-
How are you going to
educate JT's kids?
-
First thing, you
need to be relaxed.
-
Relaxed.
-
No, relax.
-
With the music.
-
Second thing, if you have
a nice face or a crazy one,
-
you need to start
to scream a bit.
-
[DAVID YELLING]
-
[ALL YELLING]
-
And the last thing is what?
-
The signal and the tongue.
-
[ALL YELLING]
-
Pay attention.
-
It's a wig.
-
Let's be a geezer.
-
Come on.
-
So, you've got the hair.
-
You've got the look.
-
But have you got the skills?
-
Oh, that's going to be hard.
-
Yes!
-
Come on.
-
Yes!
-
Ah, that's good.
-
One final thing, David,
teach them to be a geezer.
-
We need a magic trick.
-
A magic trick.
-
What have you got to show us?
-
Show us some magic.
-
Do we have some cards?
-
We have cards.
-
You have more.
-
Yes, take your card.
-
Don't let him see it.
-
Don't let me see it.
-
Can I just ask one question?
-
How did you do that?
-
Pull the cards
out of your mouth?
-
I don't know.
-
Sim Sala Bim.
-
Sim Sala Bim.
-
Yes.
-
Let's see.
-
Everything is good.
-
Oh no, only one card's there.
-
Let's see.
-
Whoa!
-
Say bye to everybody.
-
Bye!
-
Big kiss.
-
Ciao ciao.
-
Ciao ciao.
-
Ciao ciao.
-
Georgie and Summer, John
Terry's kids who are here.
-
Thank you, that was brilliant.
-
So we come to the final, very
special award of this evening.
-
And to present to a
man extremely fondly
-
remembered at Chelsea,
not least because he
-
was the manager who first
gave JT the captain's armband.
-
He is, of course, a Premier
League winner himself.
-
Please welcome the
great Claudio Ranieri.
-
[APPLAUSE]
-
[MUSIC PLAYING]
-
Welcome back to
Chelsea, Claudio.
-
You know how much
we love you here.
-
Thank you.
-
Thank you so much.
-
Good evening to everybody.
-
And well done for the season.
-
Well done to John.
-
Well done to Antonino
and all his players.
-
Well done.
-
Well done to everybody.
-
Well done to you last
season as well at Leicester.
-
So why did you give John
the captain's armband
-
for the first time?
-
Oh, look, it's
difficult to say.
-
When I watched John the first
time was the reserve team,
-
and I was so surprised.
-
I said, unbelievable.
-
And I had a very
fantastic couple
-
of central defenders, a couple
of the World Cup winners,
-
Europe winner, Marcel
Desailly, Frank Leboeuf.
-
But I had to choose something.
-
I had to find a solution
for put him on the team.
-
And slowly, slowly, I take
out on the bench Leboeuf.
-
Frank, I'm sorry, maybe you
hate me, but I watched him.
-
It was fantastic.
-
And I said, oh,
John, in my opinion,
-
could achieve as a Adams today--
captain of the Arsenal, captain
-
of the England teams.
-
John has everything to
be a very great captain.
-
I don't make mistake.
-
No, you didn't make a mistake.
-
That's for sure.
-
Claudio, thank you very much.
-
And our last word
with you, John.
-
I'm feeling-- the love
in the room is so great.
-
I'm thinking this
is not goodbye here.
-
Is it?
-
You're going to be around
Chelsea for quite a while.
-
I certainly hope
so in the future.
-
The club have made
that very clear
-
that the door will
always be open.
-
I'm going to take a
week away to decide
-
my future of what I want to do.
-
A week?
-
You could take a year, John.
-
Play some golf.
-
A week's plenty.
-
Generally, I need to get
away and kind of really
-
consider my future, whether
that's playing or finishing.
-
I'm finding it very difficult
to even consider playing
-
for another club at the moment.
-
[APPLAUSE]
-
But we will see that that was
the desire of why I'm leaving,
-
and we'll see what happens
and what the future brings.
-
All right.
-
Well, John, thank you.
-
John Terry, Claudio Ranieri,
thank you both very much.
-
So brilliant.
-
Well done.
-
Congratulations.
-
Thank you, Claudio
and John Terry.
-
What a night.
-
[APPLAUSE]
-
[CROWD SINGING]
