A vision for the future of Sierra Leone

  • Not Synced
    On Tuesday, January 16, 1996,
  • Not Synced
I walked in to the office of the president
  • Not Synced
    as Head of State
of the Republic of Sierra Leone.
  • Not Synced
    I had not been elected.
  • Not Synced
    Four years earlier,
  • Not Synced
    I was one of of 30 heavily-armed
    military officers,
  • Not Synced
    all in our 20s,
  • Not Synced
who had driven from the war front
  • Not Synced
    into the capital city, Freetown.
  • Not Synced
    We had only one objective:
  • Not Synced
    to overthrow a corrupt, repressive,
    and single-party dictatorship
  • Not Synced
that had kept itself in power
    for over 25 years.
  • Not Synced
But in the end, it wasn't a violent coup.
