    [REWILD 101:]

[How do you restore a rainforest?]
  • 0:07 - 0:10
    When we are tired,
we all need time to recover,
  • 0:11 - 0:14
    to rest and restore.
  • 0:15 - 0:20
    The oldest rainforest on earth
has been here for 108,000,000 years.
  • 0:21 - 0:23
    That's really old.
  • 0:24 - 0:28
    Rainforests work hard to care
for the species that call them home,
  • 0:29 - 0:31
and for the rest of the planet.
  • 0:31 - 0:34
    Rainforests draw carbon
    out of the atmosphere,
  • 0:35 - 0:37
and share oxygen for us to breathe.
  • 0:38 - 0:42
    Rainforests regulate climate, filter water
  • 0:42 - 0:44
and stabilize the soil where they grow.
  • 0:46 - 0:51
Rainforests are a part of a system
that helps hold the world together,
  • 0:51 - 0:53
    and they are in trouble.
  • 0:54 - 0:58
Although much of the world's rainforests
    are fragmented and degraded,

    we have an opportunity
    to restore what's been lost

    for all wild kind.

Title:
Restoring rainforests
Description:

Although much of the world’s rainforests are fragmented and degraded, we have an opportunity to restore what’s been lost — for all wild kind. The indigenous people of the Amazon are reclaiming their territories and restoring them for the benefit of people and wildlife.

The United Nations has declared 2021–2030 the Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. Together with our partners we can can help rainforests rest and recover.

To start, protect rainforests at home by boycotting tropical hardwoods and unsustainable palm oil.
