Beats that defy boxes
-
0:01 - 0:06(Non English)
-
0:25 - 0:29(French) Mais Des fois on peut voir
parce Que Les gens -
0:29 - 0:31ici faire Des choses on peut manger.
-
0:32 - 0:35(French) Mais quand
tu es fâché avec quelqu'un -
0:35 - 0:37c'est pas passé the first time.
-
0:37 - 0:40(British English) And that's one
of the things that I enjoy most -
0:40 - 0:43about this convention.
-
0:44 - 0:51It's not so much, as so little
has to do with what everything is. -
0:51 - 0:53(Laughter)
-
0:55 - 0:57But it is within our self-interest
-
0:57 - 1:00to understand the topography of our lives
-
1:00 - 1:01unto ourselves.
-
1:02 - 1:06(Laughter)
-
1:06 - 1:10The future states that there is no time
-
1:10 - 1:13other than the collapsation
of that sensation -
1:13 - 1:16of the mirror of the memories
in which we are living. -
1:16 - 1:19(Laughter)
-
1:19 - 1:21Common knowledge,
-
1:21 - 1:23but important nonetheless.
-
1:23 - 1:26(Laughter)
-
1:26 - 1:28As we face fear in these times,
-
1:28 - 1:30and fear is all around us,
-
1:31 - 1:32we also have anti-fear.
-
1:33 - 1:36It's hard to imagine or measure.
-
1:36 - 1:39The background radiation
is simply too static -
1:39 - 1:42to be able to be seen
under the normal spectral analysis. -
1:43 - 1:46(American accent) But we feel
as though there are times -
1:46 - 1:48when a lot of us --
you know what I'm saying? -
1:48 - 1:50But -- you know what I'm saying?
-
1:50 - 1:53Because, as a hip hop thing,
you know what I'm saying, -
1:53 - 1:55TED be rocking --
you know what I'm saying. -
1:55 - 1:58Like so I wrote a song,
-
1:58 - 2:00and I hope you guys dig it.
-
2:00 - 2:02It's a song about people
-
2:02 - 2:04and sasquatches --
-
2:04 - 2:07(Laughter)
-
2:07 - 2:10And other French science stuff.
-
2:10 - 2:11That's French science.
-
2:11 - 2:13Okay, here we go.
-
2:15 - 2:21(Singing) I've been trying inside
-
2:22 - 2:28I know that I'm in trouble
-
2:28 - 2:29(Applause)
-
2:29 - 2:34that I'm in trouble
-
2:35 - 2:38by myself
-
2:39 - 2:43But every time it gets me
-
2:43 - 2:50(Vocalization)
-
2:53 - 2:55(Beatbox)
-
3:23 - 3:27(Singing) And I've been trying
to be the one that you believe in -
3:29 - 3:34And you're the one
that I want to be so saucy -
3:34 - 3:39And you're the one
I want to [unclear], baby -
3:39 - 3:41And you can do anything
-
3:41 - 3:44as long as you don't get hurt
along the way back -
3:44 - 3:45(Beatbox)
-
3:45 - 3:49If I survive, I'm going
to tell you what is wrong -
3:50 - 3:55Because if you were [unclear]
-
3:55 - 4:01And I think that you're looking
like a [unclear] -
4:01 - 4:06I give you what I want to be
-
4:06 - 4:09(Music)
-
4:20 - 4:21(Music ends abruptly)
-
4:21 - 4:23(British accent) And it's like,
-
4:23 - 4:26you could use as many
of those things that you want. -
4:26 - 4:31(Applause)
-
4:31 - 4:32And the computer models,
-
4:32 - 4:34no matter how many that you have
-
4:34 - 4:35and how many people that you use,
-
4:35 - 4:38are never going to be able to arrive
at the same conclusions. -
4:39 - 4:43Four years ago I worked with a few people
at the Brookings Institute, -
4:43 - 4:44and I arrived at a conclusion.
-
4:45 - 4:50(Laughter)
-
4:52 - 4:54Tomorrow is another day.
-
4:54 - 4:57(Laughter)
-
4:57 - 4:58Not just any day,
-
4:58 - 5:00but it is a day.
-
5:01 - 5:03It will get here, there's no question.
-
5:04 - 5:06And the important thing to remember
-
5:06 - 5:10is that this simulation is a good one.
-
5:10 - 5:13It's believable, it's tactile.
-
5:13 - 5:15You can reach out -- things are solid.
-
5:15 - 5:17You can move objects
from one area to another. -
5:18 - 5:19You can feel your body.
-
5:19 - 5:22You can say, "I'd like to go over
to this location," -
5:22 - 5:25and you can move this mass
of molecules through the air -
5:25 - 5:27over to another location, at will.
-
5:27 - 5:31(Laughter)
-
5:31 - 5:33That's something
you live inside of every day. -
5:35 - 5:38Now with the allocation
and the understanding -
5:38 - 5:39of the lack of understanding,
-
5:39 - 5:42we enter into a new era of science
-
5:42 - 5:44in which we feel nothing more
-
5:44 - 5:47than so much so as to say
-
5:47 - 5:49that those within themselves,
-
5:49 - 5:52comporary or non-comporary,
-
5:52 - 5:53will figuratively figure
-
5:54 - 5:57into the folding of our non-understanding
-
5:57 - 5:59and our partial understanding
-
5:59 - 6:02to the networks
of which we all draw our source -
6:02 - 6:03and conclusions from.
-
6:03 - 6:05(Laughter)
-
6:05 - 6:08So, as I say before the last piece,
-
6:10 - 6:13feel not as though
it is a sphere we live on, -
6:13 - 6:17rather an infinite plane
which has the illusion -
6:17 - 6:20of leading yourself
back to the point of origin. -
6:20 - 6:21(Laughter)
-
6:21 - 6:24Once we understand
that all the spheres in the sky -
6:24 - 6:26are just large infinite planes,
-
6:26 - 6:27it will be plain to see.
-
6:27 - 6:28(Laughter)
-
6:28 - 6:30(Audience) (Laughter)
-
6:30 - 6:32This is my final piece.
-
6:32 - 6:34And just remember,
-
6:34 - 6:36everything you are --
-
6:36 - 6:41it's more important to realize
the negative space, -
6:41 - 6:43as music is only the division of space;
-
6:43 - 6:47it is the space
we are listening to divided as such, -
6:47 - 6:50which gives us the information
in comparison to something other -
6:50 - 6:54that gives us the idea of what the idea
that wants to be transmitted -
6:54 - 6:55wants to be.
-
6:55 - 6:57So please, without further ado.
-
6:57 - 6:59(Applause)
-
6:59 - 7:00Thank you.
-
7:00 - 7:02(Applause)
-
7:04 - 7:06This is a fun one.
-
7:06 - 7:07It goes like this.
-
7:07 - 7:10(Beatbox)
-
7:14 - 7:16(Gibberish)
-
7:32 - 7:33(Music ends)
-
7:33 - 7:35Okay, for the last piece I'd like to do,
-
7:35 - 7:38this one goes very similar to this.
-
7:38 - 7:39I hope you guys recognize it.
-
7:39 - 7:40Here we go.
-
7:45 - 7:48Okay, that still works. Okay, good.
-
7:48 - 7:49All right, here we go.
-
7:49 - 7:51(Laughter)
-
7:52 - 7:55(Beatbox)
-
8:04 - 8:05Here we go.
-
8:05 - 8:08(Beatbox)
-
8:13 - 8:16Yeah, yo, yo, yo
-
8:17 - 8:20(Gibberish)
-
9:04 - 9:05(Music fades out)
-
9:05 - 9:07Thank you. Enjoy the rest.
-
9:07 - 9:10(Applause)
