  • 0:01 - 0:02
    [ Music ]
  • 0:02 - 0:05
    >> I've experienced anxiety
    since I can remember.
  • 0:05 - 0:11
    >> I've definitely experienced anxiety before
most of the time I feel just for no reason.
  • 0:11 - 0:15
Like I'm just sitting around and there's
nothing going on and I feel anxious.
  • 0:16 - 0:21
    >> I have experienced anxiety to the level
of shutting myself off from the world.
  • 0:22 - 0:27
It got to the point where I
    wouldn't even leave my home.
  • 0:27 - 0:32
    >> About, you know, big questions
in life like where's my life going?
  • 0:32 - 0:36
What sort of career am I going to have?
  • 0:36 - 0:38
Do I have the right major?
  • 0:38 - 0:40
I've changed that more than a few times.
  • 0:41 - 0:43
    >> You get anxiety when you
get ready to take a test.
  • 0:43 - 0:45
Some of us get more than others.
  • 0:46 - 0:48
    >> Just constantly all that vibration.
  • 0:48 - 0:50
    All that, oh, I'm nervous.
  • 0:50 - 0:51
    It's more than that.
  • 0:51 - 0:55
It envelopes your entire body sort of thing.
  • 0:56 - 1:04
    >> I had a significant amount of coffee one
day and I was sitting in the college library
  • 1:04 - 1:11
and just having terrible hot sweats and,
you know, my mind is racing thinking
  • 1:11 - 1:17
about everything that could go wrong right
now, thinking about all sorts of things
  • 1:17 - 1:18
that didn't matter in that moment.
  • 1:19 - 1:23
The biggest solution for that was to breathe.
  • 1:23 - 1:28
    >> The midterms for history just because in
that class the midterm is like half your grade.
  • 1:29 - 1:31
I live at home currently, so I
was able to talk with my parents.
  • 1:31 - 1:34
They helped me pull my anxiety low enough for me
  • 1:34 - 1:37
    to actually start studying and
    feel less nervous about it.
  • 1:37 - 1:39
    >> You've got to get out there.
  • 1:39 - 1:46
You've got to be around people who are going to
support you, encourage you and just let you know
  • 1:46 - 1:48
that everything is going to be fine.
  • 1:48 - 1:53
    >> Form a plan to deal with it and
don't just stress about it now.
  • 1:53 - 1:56
    >> In Texas, the wasps are about like this.
  • 1:58 - 2:04
Huge. And so then they start flying
and now, you know, you go could, "Ah!"
  • 2:04 - 2:08
And then they might come at you, or you
can just relax and let them fly away.
  • 2:09 - 2:19
So for some reason, if we freak out about stuff,
it seems like it brings negative vibes to us.
  • 2:19 - 2:25
    >> Essential oils can be really
    helpful for managing your anxiety.
  • 2:25 - 2:31
Taking lavender, vanilla or orange essential
oils and dropping them onto your pillow
  • 2:31 - 2:37
or a cotton ball, basically anything to
help you breathe in those essential oils,
  • 2:37 - 2:41
because putting them on your skin can
sometimes be a little bit too strong.
  • 2:41 - 2:45
    >> Caffeine and sugar are huge
    contributing factors to anxiety.
  • 2:46 - 2:48
In one study, those that withheld caffeine
  • 2:48 - 2:52
for six months did not experience
panic attacks during those six months.
  • 2:53 - 2:58
And for two years after that if they didn't have
caffeine, they didn't have panic attacks either.
  • 2:58 - 3:02
So those energy drinks, they're not helping us.
  • 3:02 - 3:07
    >> You may have mental health counsellors
on your campus and it's a free serve.
  • 3:07 - 3:11
The counsellors are there to help you
and can give you specific tips on how
  • 3:11 - 3:19
to keep your anxiety level low, so
check out your student health center.
