  • 0:33 - 0:38
    For the past few years,
I've been obsessed with video games,
  • 0:39 - 0:42
playing for 8 hours a day
  • 0:42 - 0:51
and I need suggestions to stop
this obsession of playing video games.
  • 0:52 - 0:55
    (Sr. True Dedication):
    Dear Thay, dear sangha,
  • 0:55 - 1:00
    a young friend just shared
that for the last few years
  • 1:00 - 1:03
    he has been playing
    a lot of computer games.
  • 1:04 - 1:08
    About 8 hours every day
    he plays computer games
  • 1:08 - 1:11
and it has become an obsession.
  • 1:12 - 1:14
He would like any help, any ideas
  • 1:14 - 1:19
how he can stop this obsession
    with playing computer games.
  • 1:21 - 1:28
The young people may already have
a lot of suffering in themselves.
  • 1:30 - 1:36
    Their parents do not know
how to help their children to suffer less,
  • 1:37 - 1:40
to transform the suffering in them.
  • 1:40 - 1:43
That is why both, parents and children
  • 1:43 - 1:51
try to cover up the suffering inside
    by entertainment:
  • 1:51 - 1:59
    music, books, films,
    electronic games and so on.
  • 1:59 - 2:02
    This is not really enjoyment,
  • 2:02 - 2:07
it is just trying to run away
    from the suffering inside.
  • 2:09 - 2:16
    As the time passes,
the suffering inside continues to grow.
  • 2:16 - 2:22
Because the items that we consume
  • 2:25 - 2:27
in order to forget about our suffering
  • 2:28 - 2:31
    can bring more toxins, poisons,
  • 2:32 - 2:38
    anger, distress, to us.
  • 2:39 - 2:42
    This is not living.
  • 2:43 - 2:48
That is running away from life.
  • 2:50 - 2:57
    What the West calls
    the Kingdom of God
  • 3:00 - 3:04
    in Buddhism is called
    the Dharma body.
  • 3:07 - 3:11
The Buddha has the Buddha body,
  • 3:11 - 3:15
but he also has a Dharma body.
  • 3:15 - 3:19
When the physical body of the Buddha
    is no longer there,
  • 3:20 - 3:24
    his Dharma body continues
    to give Dharma talks.
  • 3:25 - 3:29
    When you contemplate a flower
  • 3:30 - 3:33
    or when you listen
to the wind in the willow
  • 3:33 - 3:36
    with mindfulness and concentration,
  • 3:36 - 3:41
you hear the Dharma talk given by
the Dharma body of the Buddha.
  • 3:43 - 3:47
So the Buddha is always alive
    giving Dharma talks.
  • 3:47 - 3:53
    If you contemplate the Moon,
    the cloud, the blue sky,
  • 3:53 - 3:56
    the river, the rising tide,
  • 3:56 - 3:59
then everything is teaching the Dharma.
  • 4:00 - 4:04
    The Dharma body is equivalent
    to the Kingdom of God.
  • 4:05 - 4:08
    We know that
the Kingdom of God is there.
  • 4:08 - 4:14
    Every flower, every tree
belongs to the Kingdom of God.
  • 4:14 - 4:18
    They speak to you
    about the Kingdom of God
  • 4:18 - 4:21
    that is here and now.
  • 4:21 - 4:25
So if you know how to go home
to the here and the now,
  • 4:25 - 4:28
you have the Kingdom of God with you.
  • 4:28 - 4:30
It will nourish you, make you happy.
  • 4:30 - 4:34
You don't have to run away
and take refuge in electronic games.
  • 4:34 - 4:39
    When you breathe in mindfully,
you bring your mind home to your body.
  • 4:39 - 4:43
When mind and body are together,
    you are truly alive.
  • 4:43 - 4:46
If you get lost in your computer,
  • 4:47 - 4:50
your body and your mind are separated.
  • 4:50 - 4:52
    You are not truly alive.
  • 4:52 - 4:54
    You are wasting your live.
  • 4:55 - 4:58
You don't profit from your life.
  • 4:59 - 5:02
Nature has given us a life.
  • 5:02 - 5:05
Every second, every minute is a jewel.
  • 5:05 - 5:08
If you can stay in the here and the now,
  • 5:08 - 5:11
you can enjoy the Kingdom of God
in the here and the now.
  • 5:11 - 5:15
That is the best kind of enjoyment.
  • 5:19 - 5:28
There is an image in the Gospel.
  • 5:29 - 5:36
    A peasant, a farmer,
    discovers a piece of land
  • 5:36 - 5:39
    with a treasure in it.
  • 5:39 - 5:43
He goes home and sells everything
in order to buy that small piece of land.
  • 5:43 - 5:45
Because it has a treasure in it.
  • 5:46 - 5:48
    And that treasure
can make him happy all his life
  • 5:48 - 5:51
and in the next life also.
  • 5:51 - 5:54
So if you have the treasure,
    the Kingdom of God,
  • 5:54 - 5:56
    you don't need other things,
  • 5:56 - 6:03
    including money, fame,
    power, sensual pleasures
  • 6:03 - 6:06
    and electronic games.
  • 6:06 - 6:11
    That is why
    parents should practice
  • 6:11 - 6:14
    in order to be able
to enjoy the Kingdom of God
  • 6:14 - 6:16
in the here and the now.
  • 6:16 - 6:20
In that way, they can teach
their children to do the same.
  • 6:20 - 6:23
And they will not run away
  • 6:23 - 6:25
and take refuge in electronic games
  • 6:25 - 6:28
and got addicted to them anymore.
  • 6:28 - 6:30
    Because if you continue,
  • 6:30 - 6:35
your body will have a lot of problems
    and your mind also.
  • 6:36 - 6:39
That has proved to be exact.
  • 6:39 - 6:43
If you spend too much time
    with your computer,
  • 6:43 - 6:45
    your electronic games,
  • 6:45 - 6:49
you are addicted to new technologies,
  • 6:49 - 6:53
then you don't have any time left
to enjoy the wonders of life,
  • 6:54 - 6:57
the Kingdom of God that is available
in the here and the now.
  • 6:57 - 7:00
This is not only an answer
    to a young person,
  • 7:01 - 7:04
    but to all of us,
    especially parents and teachers.
  • 7:06 - 7:09
Thank you for asking a question.
  • 7:10 - 7:11
