Dance Party 2019 - Measures

  • 0:10 - 0:12
I'm Aloe Blacc, I'm a singer, songwriter, and entertainer
  • 0:14 - 0:17
I think computer science is really important to learn,
  • 0:17 - 0:19
because computer science is the future.
  • 0:21 - 0:25
I think it's important for people to be in control of the technology,
  • 0:25 - 0:27
that is literally controlling their lives.
  • 0:29 - 0:33
The Event we're going to use now will listen for a change in the song.
  • 0:36 - 0:39
The change will trigger your dancer to do a new dance.
  • 0:40 - 0:43
    Professional dancers practice their choreography
  • 0:43 - 0:45
by counting the beats of the song.
  • 0:48 - 0:51
In music, a measure refers to a certain number of beats.
  • 0:52 - 0:55
In most popular songs, a measure is 4 beats long.
  • 0:56 - 1:00
To get your dancers to let loose, you'll need a green Event block.
  • 1:01 - 1:04
This Event block says, "after 4 measures."
  • 1:06 - 1:10
If you drag out a purple "Do Forever" block,
  • 1:10 - 1:13
you can pick a dance for your dancer to do.
  • 1:13 - 1:16
Because it's under the "after 4 measures" event block,
  • 1:17 - 1:20
your dancer will wait for 4 measures of the song,
  • 1:20 - 1:22
    before starting their dance.
  • 1:23 - 1:27
Keep an eye on the Measure counter, at the top of the display area.
  • 1:27 - 1:31
Look and listen for the event that will trigger the dance code.
  • 1:33 - 1:36
And right on cue, our dancer starts going.
