Homeward Bound - Peter Hollens feat. 300+ Oregon Choir students

  • 0:07 - 0:14
    In the quiet misty morning
  • 0:14 - 0:19
When the moon has gone to bed
  • 0:20 - 0:25
When the sparrows stop their singing
  • 0:26 - 0:31
And the sky is clear and red
  • 0:34 - 0:39
When the summer's ceased its gleaming
  • 0:39 - 0:45
When the corn is past its prime
  • 0:45 - 0:50
    When adventure's lost its meaning
  • 0:50 - 0:55
I'll be homeward bound in time
  • 0:55 - 1:00
Bind me not to the pasture
  • 1:00 - 1:04
Chain me not to the plow
  • 1:04 - 1:09
Set me free to find my calling
  • 1:09 - 1:15
And I'll return to you somehow
  • 1:24 - 1:29
If you find it's me you're missing
  • 1:29 - 1:34
    If you're hoping I'll return
  • 1:34 - 1:38
To your thoughts I'll soon be listening
  • 1:38 - 1:43
And in the road I'll stop and turn
  • 1:43 - 1:48
When the wind will set me racing
  • 1:48 - 1:53
As my journey nears its end
  • 1:53 - 1:58
And the path I'll be retracing
  • 1:58 - 2:03
    As I'm homeward bound again
  • 2:03 - 2:08
Bind me not to the pasture
  • 2:08 - 2:13
Chain me not to the plow
  • 2:13 - 2:17
Set me free to find my calling
  • 2:17 - 2:23
And I'll return to you somehow
  • 2:23 - 2:29
Bind me not to the pasture
  • 2:29 - 2:34
Chain me not to the plow
  • 2:34 - 2:43
Set me free to find my calling
  • 2:43 - 2:48
And I'll return to you somehow
  • 2:58 - 3:02
    In the quiet misty morning
  • 3:02 - 3:07
When the moon has gone to bed
  • 3:08 - 3:12
When the sparrows stop their singing
  • 3:12 - 3:17
And the sky is clear and red
  • 3:17 - 3:22
When the summer's ceased its gleaming
  • 3:22 - 3:27
When the corn is past its prime
  • 3:27 - 3:34
    When adventure's lost its meaning
  • 3:35 - 3:55
I'll be homeward bound in time
  • 3:59 - 4:00
    Hey Hollensfamily
  • 4:00 - 4:06
This was one of the most special videos
    I have ever made
  • 4:07 - 4:14
It was such an incredible feeling to work
    with these amazing highschoolers
  • 4:15 - 4:19
And I kind of wanted to tell you
    where the song came from
  • 4:20 - 4:26
I... I had been looking for another folk song
to do cause I'd been really, really wanting to
  • 4:26 - 4:32
And I came across this song, and I reached
out to one of my best friends, Megan Purdue
  • 4:32 - 4:37
Who is a choir director up in Portland, Oregon
  • 4:38 - 4:42
And I was like: Hey, I'm thinking about
doing a song called "Homeward Bound"
  • 4:42 - 4:44
Do you think your choir would wanna do it
    with me?
  • 4:44 - 4:49
And... The story she told me...
  • 4:53 - 5:00
There's some things in life where you just
think that things were meant to happen
  • 5:01 - 5:06
And you can call it divine intervention
or you can call it happenstance
  • 5:06 - 5:12
But there was a young, a young girl by the
    name of Io Korol
  • 5:12 - 5:16
Who had just passed away that week

  • 5:17 - 5:22
And this song was by far her favorite
It was the song that she
  • 5:23 - 5:26
    Would go around school singing
  • 5:26 - 5:37
And it kind of ended up being her choir's...
song for the whole year... and...
  • 5:38 - 5:41
So when I reached out, I had no idea...
  • 5:43 - 5:50
But it ended up being a video
that had so much more meaning
  • 5:52 - 5:56
Which is why this song and video
    is dedicated to her
  • 6:01 - 6:09
Megan, her choir director, said that she was
the kind of girl who would go around the school
  • 6:09 - 6:15
Singing and not caring what people thought
    about her, and, you know
  • 6:15 - 6:18
I can't respect people like that enough
  • 6:18 - 6:21
You know, people that just don't care
what people think about them and...
  • 6:23 - 6:26
You know she... she passed at a really
    young age, suddenly, and...
  • 6:27 - 6:31
    That took me... you know...
  • 6:34 - 6:38
Well past I was 30 until I could, I could
get to the point in my life where
  • 6:38 - 6:41
I could just sing and just not care what
people thought about me, and you know...
  • 6:41 - 6:46
I don't know... people like that need to
    be celebrated so...
  • 6:49 - 6:53
I'm so happy that her choir got to be part
of this and I reached out to another one
  • 6:53 - 6:56
Of my friends from the a capella group that
I founded at the University of Oregon
  • 6:57 - 7:03
Who was the choir director at both...
2 different schools in Eugene, the town I live in
  • 7:03 - 7:06
Churchill and North Eugene, and we got to
    make this video
  • 7:07 - 7:12
So, I really hope you guys enjoyed it,
I hope you got goosebumps when
  • 7:12 - 7:16
The last scene comes in and you can see
    everyone on the risers...
  • 7:18 - 7:20
    It's just a special song
  • 7:20 - 7:26
This song couldn't have been made without
the support of my Patrons at Patreon
  • 7:26 - 7:30
And if you guys would like to learn more
about that, I really encourage you
  • 7:30 - 7:35
To click through and check out Patreon
I have a link down below as well
  • 7:35 - 7:41
Please pass this on to... anyone you love
It would mean the world to me
  • 7:41 - 7:51
And... yeah... celebrate life, and love,
and don't take any moments for granted
  • 7:51 - 7:58
To many people spend life focusing on
    disappointment and fear and hate
  • 7:58 - 8:00
    Especially this time of year
  • 8:00 - 8:05
Just celebrate love and celebrate your life
and tell those around you that you love them
  • 8:06 - 8:11
Love you guys, music coming all the time
    Peace!
