It's never too late to follow
    in God's footsteps.
  • 0:08 - 0:12
    Laura Napoli Gonçalves
    is known affectionately
  • 0:12 - 0:15
    by her fellow church members
    as Grandma Laura.
  • 0:18 - 0:20
    At 75 years old,
  • 0:20 - 0:22
    she learned about
    the Seventh-day Adventist Church
  • 0:22 - 0:25
    through an invitation
    from her granddaughters.
  • 0:26 - 0:30
Grandma Laura was a firm believer
    in spiritistic practices,
  • 0:30 - 0:32
but as she came to know the truth,
  • 0:32 - 0:33
through the study of God's Word
  • 0:33 - 0:36
    and participation
    in church services and events,
  • 0:36 - 0:40
    her heart gradually filled
    with the love of Jesus.
  • 0:44 - 0:47
    Even before descending
    into the baptismal waters,
  • 0:47 - 0:50
    Laura participated actively in evangelism,
  • 0:50 - 0:53
    helping to greet visitors
    at prayer meetings
  • 0:53 - 0:54
and collecting food for the needy,
  • 0:54 - 0:56
    among many other activities.
  • 1:00 - 1:03
    She especially likes to read
    Ellen White's books.
  • 1:03 - 1:06
The most important thing to Laura
    is to go to church
  • 1:06 - 1:08
to be with her church family.
  • 1:09 - 1:11
    She's always present for services,
  • 1:11 - 1:15
    regardless of the cold weather,
    rain, or intense heat.
  • 1:15 - 1:18
Laura especially loves the week of prayer.
  • 1:23 - 1:28
All this love led her to baptism
    on December 13, 2015,
  • 1:28 - 1:30
    at the age of 80.
  • 1:36 - 1:38
Laura joined a group that was organized
  • 1:38 - 1:39
to take the Word of God
  • 1:39 - 1:42
and good news of salvation in Jesus
    to community members.
  • 1:43 - 1:46
    She is a faithful Christian,
    missionary, and giver,
  • 1:46 - 1:49
and her life demonstrates a contagious joy
  • 1:49 - 1:51
for being part of the Adventist family.
  • 1:52 - 1:54
Grandma Laura is a living testimony
  • 1:54 - 1:56
that the best place in the world
  • 1:56 - 1:58
is at the feet of the Savior,
  • 1:58 - 2:01
and she looks forward to Jesus' return
  • 2:01 - 2:03
when she can be with Him forever.
  • 2:03 - 2:05
    Grandma Laura is engaged
  • 2:05 - 2:08
    in the mission
and social projects of the church,
  • 2:08 - 2:10
including the building of a new church
  • 2:10 - 2:13
    to safely accommodate
    all the community members.
  • 2:14 - 2:18
    The building currently rented
by the church is too small
  • 2:18 - 2:21
and doesn't have a separate room
    for the youth and children.
  • 2:21 - 2:23
    They meet outside,
  • 2:23 - 2:25
leaving them subject to the dangers
  • 2:25 - 2:28
of traffic, heat, and bad weather.
  • 2:28 - 2:31
    This quarter's 13th Sabbath Offering
  • 2:31 - 2:34
    will help establish churches
    in South America,
  • 2:34 - 2:36
including one in Grandma Laura's town.
  • 2:36 - 2:38
There will be so much joy
  • 2:38 - 2:42
    when church members
can worship together in this new space,
  • 2:42 - 2:44
    and the youth and children
    are sheltered indoors.
  • 2:45 - 2:49
Please pray for this group and others
    throughout South America.
  • 2:49 - 2:54
    Thank you for giving
    to the 13th Sabbath Offering.
