Dove Real Beauty Sketches with subtitles

  • 0:02 - 0:07
I am a forensic artist, worked for the San Jose police department from 1995 to 2011.
  • 0:08 - 0:09
I showed up to a place I had never been.
  • 0:09 - 0:12
And there was a guy with a drafting board.
  • 0:12 - 0:14
We couldn't see them. They couldn't see us.
  • 0:14 - 0:16
    Tell me about your hair.
  • 0:16 - 0:18
I didn't know what he was doing,
  • 0:18 - 0:23
but I then could tell after several questions that he was drawing me.
  • 0:24 - 0:26
    Tell me about your chin.
  • 0:26 - 0:29
It kind of protrudes a little bit,
  • 0:30 - 0:31
    especially when I smile.
  • 0:32 - 0:33
    Your jaw?
  • 0:33 - 0:35
My mom told me I had a big jaw.
  • 0:36 - 0:38
What would be your prominent feature?
  • 0:38 - 0:40
I kind of have a fat, rounder face.
  • 0:40 - 0:43
The older I've gotten, the more freckles I've gotten.
  • 0:43 - 0:46
I would say I have a pretty big forehead.
  • 0:49 - 0:52
Once I get a sketch, I say "Thank you very much."
  • 0:52 - 0:55
And then they leave. I don't see them.
  • 0:57 - 0:59
All I had been told before the sketch
  • 0:59 - 1:01
was to get friendly with this other woman, Chloe.
  • 1:01 - 1:07
Today I am gonna ask you some questions about a person you met earlier.
  • 1:07 - 1:10
And I am gonna ask you some general questions about their face.
  • 1:10 - 1:13
She was thin, so you could see her cheekbones.
  • 1:13 - 1:14
    And her chin?
  • 1:14 - 1:17
That was a nice, thin chin.
  • 1:19 - 1:22
She had nice eyes. They lit up when she spoke.
  • 1:22 - 1:23
    Cute nose.
  • 1:23 - 1:25
she had blue eyes, very nice blue eyes.
  • 1:31 - 1:34
So here we are. This is a sketch that you helped me create.
  • 1:35 - 1:39
And that's a sketch that somebody described to be you.
  • 1:39 - 1:40
    I see. That's ...
  • 2:01 - 2:05
She looks closed off and fatter. Sadder, too.
  • 2:05 - 2:10
The second one looks more open, friendly and happy.
  • 2:13 - 2:15
I should be more grateful of my natural beauty.
  • 2:15 - 2:21
It impacts the choices in the friends that we make, the jobs we apply for, how we treat our children.
  • 2:22 - 2:23
    It impacts everything.
  • 2:24 - 2:26
It couldn't be more critical to your happiness.
  • 2:26 - 2:29
Do you think you are more beautiful than you say?
  • 2:29 - 2:31
    Yea, yea.
  • 2:32 - 2:33
    Yea.
  • 2:34 - 2:39
We spend a lot of time as women analyzing and trying to fix the things that aren't quite right.
  • 2:41 - 2:44
And we should spend more time appreciating the things that we do like.
  • 2:48 - 2:51
You are more beautiful than you think.

Dove Real Beauty Sketches with subtitles
Description:

Women are their own worst beauty critics. Only 4% of women around the world consider themselves beautiful. At Dove, we are committed to creating a world where beauty is a source of confidence, not anxiety. So, we decided to conduct a compelling social experiment that explores how women view their own beauty in contrast to what others see.
