Hey guys. It's Day 2, and today
we are going to be starting
-
with a project where we're going
to be comparing and contrasting.
-
So what's comparing and contrasting?
Comparing is when we try
-
to find similarities.
-
Things that are the same
between two different things.
-
For example, in our Rapunzel stories,
Rapunzel is put
-
in a tower in both tellings.
-
Contrasting is where we find
the differences
-
between two different things.
-
In Rapunzel's revenge,
Rapunzel's hair is red,
-
but in Grimm's Fairy Tale's Rapunzel,
her hair is golden like the sun,
-
so those are two differences.

Now that we understand what comparing
and contrasting is, we can do
-
our first activity and fill out
our compare and contrast worksheet.

Our second activity is creating a collage.
-
A collage is a piece of work where
you stick pieces of paper, materials,
-
or photographs to some backing
and it creates a single image
-
or piece of artwork.
-
Some artists, famous for collage, are
Henry Matisse, Pablo Picasso,
-
and my personal favorite,
Eric Carle, who is famous
-
for The Very Hungry Caterpillar book.
-
To begin our second activity, pick a panel
from Rapunzel's Revenge.
-
We're going to try to recreate it
in the style of collage.
-
Your work can be as realistic or abstract
as you like.
-
I picked this panel for my collage.
-
You will need a piece of cardstock,
collage papers, scissors, glue, pencil.
-
Try to simplify the panel drawings
into basic shapes
-
like circles, squares, and triangles,
which can make it easier to cut out.
-
Before gluing, lay out the pieces
on the cardstock
-
to see how the picture
is fitting together.
-
Start by gluing
your back drop together,
-
then your larger pieces.
-
Using your ink pen, sign your work
when you're finished.
-
Don't forget to take a picture,
so we can see the work that you did.
