0:01 - 0:04Simplify the expression
using rational exponents. -
0:04 - 0:07So we have the cubed root of
all of this stuff over here, -
0:07 - 0:08which would be the
same thing, or which -
0:08 - 0:11is the same thing by definition,
as all of this stuff-- -
0:11 - 0:1564a to the sixth, b to
the third, c to the ninth, -
0:15 - 0:18raised to the 1/3 power.

0:18 - 0:21These are equivalent
by definition. -
0:21 - 0:23And if we take the product
of a bunch of things -
0:23 - 0:25and raise them to
an exponent, that's -
0:25 - 0:27the same thing as raising
each of these things -
0:27 - 0:29that we're taking the product
of to the exponent first -
0:29 - 0:30and then multiplying.

0:30 - 0:36So this is going to be equal
to 64 to the 1/3 power times -
0:36 - 0:40a to the sixth to
the 1/3 power times -
0:40 - 0:44b to the third to
the 1/3 power times -
0:44 - 0:47c to the ninth to the 1/3 power.

0:47 - 0:49And we've seen this in
several examples already. -
0:49 - 0:51Well first let's try
to simplify this. -
0:51 - 0:5364 to the 1/3.

0:53 - 0:54You might recognize
that already, -
0:54 - 0:57but we can factor 64
as-- well, I wouldn't -
0:57 - 0:59do a pure prime
factorization, because you'll -
0:59 - 1:01see it's 4 to the third power.

1:01 - 1:02Actually, you could
verify that for yourself. -
1:02 - 1:04Or I encourage
you, if that's not -
1:04 - 1:07obvious to see that this is
4 to the third power, 64, -
1:07 - 1:09multiply it out for yourself.

1:09 - 1:11Or if you're like,
how did you know that? -
1:11 - 1:12Do the prime factorization.

1:12 - 1:13And what you're going
to do is if you-- -
1:13 - 1:14well, let me just show you.
-
1:14 - 1:16If you do the prime
factorization, -
1:16 - 1:17you're going to have 2 times 32.
-
1:17 - 1:2032 is 2 times 16.
-
1:20 - 1:2216 is 2 times 8.
-
1:22 - 1:248 is 2 times 4.
-
1:24 - 1:26And then 4 is 2 times 2.
-
1:26 - 1:29So you can have 2 multiplied
by itself three times, -
1:29 - 1:32or you could have it-- a 2
multiplied by itself three -
1:32 - 1:33times and that happens twice.

1:33 - 1:39Or you could have
4 times 4 times 4. -
1:39 - 1:42So if it immediately
didn't jump into your head -
1:42 - 1:44that 64 is 4 to the
third power, you -
1:44 - 1:47can literally do a brute
force prime factorization here -
1:47 - 1:50and see that you have
6-- you could factor this -
1:50 - 1:54into 2 to the sixth power,
or the same thing as 4 -
1:54 - 1:55to the third power.

1:55 - 1:58So I'll let you think
about that a little bit. -
1:58 - 2:02But this right here simplifies
that 64 is 4 to the third power -
2:02 - 2:03and you raise that
to the 1/3 power. -
2:03 - 2:05That is the same thing.

2:05 - 2:06Actually, let me
write it that way. -
2:06 - 2:07That could make it
more interesting. -
2:07 - 2:11So this right here, this
is 4 the third power. -
2:11 - 2:13So I have 4 to the
third power and then -
2:13 - 2:15that raised to the 1/3 power.

2:15 - 2:17So if I want to rewrite
that term right over here, -
2:17 - 2:21that's going to be
four to the 3/3 power. -
2:21 - 2:23I'm literally
multiplying 3 times 1/3. -
2:23 - 2:264 to the third and
then that to the 1/3. -
2:26 - 2:29Then over here, I have a to
the sixth and then that the 1/3 -
2:29 - 2:30power.

2:30 - 2:34That is going to be a to
the 6 times 1/3 power, -
2:34 - 2:36or a to the 6/3 power.

2:36 - 2:40Then I have b to the third and
then that raised to the 1/3, -
2:40 - 2:42so that's going to
be-- we literally -
2:42 - 2:43can multiply exponents here.
-
2:43 - 2:46So we have b to
the 3 over 3 power. -
2:46 - 2:50And then finally, we
have c to the ninth -
2:50 - 2:52and then that raised
to the 1/3 power. -
2:52 - 2:56So that is c to the 9/3 power.

2:56 - 3:01And if you simplify it, this
first term here, 4 to the 3/3, -
3:01 - 3:02that's just 4 to
the first power. -
3:02 - 3:04So that's just 4.

3:04 - 3:06We have a to the 6/3.
-
3:06 - 3:106/3 is just 2, so that
just becomes a squared. -
3:10 - 3:14B to the 3/3 power, that's
just b to the first or b. -
3:14 - 3:17And then finally, c
to the 9/3, that's -
3:17 - 3:19just c to the third power.

3:19 - 3:21So we write c to the third here.

3:21 - 3:24And we are done.
