Real VEGAN KIDS Talk About Being Vegan!

  • 0:00 - 0:02
Hi there! If you’re a kid
  • 0:03 - 0:06
    and you’d rather
listen to other kids than boring adults like
  • 0:06 - 0:09
me, then this video is for you.
  • 0:16 - 0:21
Hi it’s Emily from Bite Size Vegan and welcome
to another vegan nugget. I’m so excited
  • 0:21 - 0:26
to be making another video just for you! And
I’m even more exited to introduce you to
  • 0:26 - 0:29
my friends: some awesome real vegan kids!
  • 0:30 - 0:34
If you don’t already know, being “vegan”
means you don’t eat animals or anything
  • 0:34 - 0:40
that they make. If you want to know why anyone
would want to be vegan, check out my videos
  • 0:40 - 0:45
for kids so far. We’ve talked about why
we don’t drink milk or eat meat, or eggs.
  • 0:45 - 0:49
You can find links to those up there and down
below if you want to watch them later.
  • 0:50 - 0:55
Maybe you want to stop eating animals too.
Well, instead of boring you with me talking
  • 0:55 - 1:00
the whole time, I thought it would be really
fun to talk to kids from all over the world who are vegan.
  • 1:00 - 1:06
Because here’s something that a lot of adults
seem to forgot: you kids are really smart
  • 1:06 - 1:11
and you often say much smarter things than
most adults! So now it’s time for me to
  • 1:11 - 1:18
be quiet and let these super-smart, incredible
vegan kids tell you why they don’t eat animals!
  • 1:18 - 1:19
    Let’s meet them all first!
  • 1:20 - 1:24
    There’s Elvis, who’s 3 and a half years
old and lives in Hawaii in the United States.
  • 1:25 - 1:29
Kevin, who’s 13 and from England and the
Philippines, and currently living in Bahrain
  • 1:30 - 1:34
    Lilah, who’s 8 and Lex who’s 6, both from
    Massachusetts in the United States.
  • 1:35 - 1:38
JoJo, who’s 4 years old, from London, England.
  • 1:38 - 1:42
Lexie, who’s 13 from “the South” in
    the United States.
  • 1:43 - 1:47
    Ronya, who’s 14 and Oli, who’s 8, both
from Waiheke Island in New Zealand.
  • 1:48 - 1:50
Dylan, who’s 6.5 from Tel Aviv, Israel.
  • 1:51 - 1:55
And Carolina Ali, who’s 13 and from Tennessee
    in the United States.
  • 1:55 - 2:00
Now that you know their names, let’s hear
why they don’t eat animals! And just so you
  • 2:00 - 2:04
know sometimes it may be hard to hear everyone
because we were talking from really far away,
  • 2:05 - 2:11
so you can always turn on the captions down there, and I’ll
put text up in the really hard parts. If you
  • 2:11 - 2:13
can’t read yet, you can ask an adult for help.
  • 2:14 - 2:18
    I don’t eat animals because it’s
    bad for my body.
  • 2:20 - 2:23
And guys, it's good not to eat animals, but…
  • 2:23 - 2:24
    How come?
  • 2:24 - 2:26
Um, because animals are our friends!
  • 2:27 - 2:34
So, I’m vegan for a number of reasons
mostly to do with animal rights. Now does
  • 2:34 - 2:41
it make much sense to be eating animals or
their secretions if you love them?
  • 2:42 - 2:48
But of course then there's environmental reasons. Without the earth then not going to
  • 2:48 - 2:52
be us. Now they're going to be no humans if
we don't have a place to live. So, of course
  • 2:52 - 2:57
that’s very important. Of course my health--I've
always considered myself a healthy person,
  • 2:57 - 3:05
but now that I'm vegan, I am much more healthy.
And then probably the last big reason is other
  • 3:05 - 3:11
people. You know, going vegan can end world
hunger and world thirst. And of course everyone
  • 3:11 - 3:18
wants that to end. Going vegan helps not only
animals but other people as well.
  • 3:19 - 3:24
Main reason is ethical reasons, because
I don’t think it’s our right to be, you know doing
  • 3:24 - 3:29
these things to other animals just because we think
that we have the “better species,” which we’re
  • 3:29 - 3:35
really not. I went vegetarian when I was seven
because we got chickens, kinda for pets, but
  • 3:35 - 3:41
Dad wanted to eat them and get their eggs
and stuff. And I didn't mind the eggs because
  • 3:41 - 3:45
I didn’t really see what was wrong with
that. But I didn't want to eat them because
  • 3:45 - 3:48
I fell in love with them and they had names
and such, so why would I want to eat them?
  • 3:48 - 3:52
And then I sort of made the connection that, you know,
just because the other ones don’t have names,
  • 3:52 - 3:55
    that I know, doesn’t mean they’re any
    less...special.
  • 3:56 - 4:00
I’m vegan because I care about
the animals and the environment, and especially my health.
  • 4:01 - 4:06
Because we don’t want to kill animals.
We want them to live their own lives.
  • 4:06 - 4:14
I went vegan mainly because of you. The
family wasn’t very supportive, but they’re
  • 4:14 - 4:20
getting better. We made it to veganism. We
fought the fight and we won.
  • 4:20 - 4:28
    I watched Gary Yourofsky’s speech
and I went vegan overnight. I guess I've always
  • 4:28 - 4:34
thought hunting was wrong growing up around
hunting, and I never kind of made the connection
  • 4:34 - 4:41
that it was kind of the same thing, me eating
meat and hunting. So I went vegan overnight
  • 4:41 - 4:45
after watching Gary’s speech because I just
realized it was the right thing to do and
  • 4:45 - 4:51
that was the way that everybody should be
vegan--it’s just the only way to live.
  • 4:52 - 4:59
Because they just hurt them and just
kill them. I want them to play around in
  • 4:59 - 5:07
the spring and the summer, and they want to live
    all lovely in the wild!
  • 5:08 - 5:14
    Because my family...we believe that
animals should have the rights to be happy
  • 5:14 - 5:20
like us. I went vegan when I was about maybe
two because my family thought we needed eggs
  • 5:20 - 5:27
but then we discovered that we just don’t
need them and animals are happier when we’re vegan.
  • 5:27 - 5:35
Cause I I don't want to kill animals
and I and I don't want other people to kill them for me.
  • 5:36 - 5:41
I so hope you enjoyed hearing from real vegan
kids! If you’re a vegan too, I hope that this helped
