WEBVTT 00:00:00.269 --> 00:00:02.260 Hi there! If you’re a kid 00:00:03.140 --> 00:00:06.250 and you’d rather listen to other kids than boring adults like 00:00:06.250 --> 00:00:08.790 me, then this video is for you. 00:00:15.879 --> 00:00:20.830 Hi it’s Emily from Bite Size Vegan and welcome to another vegan nugget. I’m so excited 00:00:20.830 --> 00:00:25.800 to be making another video just for you! And I’m even more exited to introduce you to 00:00:25.800 --> 00:00:29.280 my friends: some awesome real vegan kids! 00:00:29.720 --> 00:00:34.480 If you don’t already know, being “vegan” means you don’t eat animals or anything 00:00:34.480 --> 00:00:39.530 that they make. If you want to know why anyone would want to be vegan, check out my videos 00:00:39.530 --> 00:00:44.920 for kids so far. We’ve talked about why we don’t drink milk or eat meat, or eggs. 00:00:45.230 --> 00:00:49.430 You can find links to those up there and down below if you want to watch them later. 00:00:49.730 --> 00:00:54.820 Maybe you want to stop eating animals too. Well, instead of boring you with me talking 00:00:54.820 --> 00:01:00.140 the whole time, I thought it would be really fun to talk to kids from all over the world who are vegan. 00:01:00.410 --> 00:01:06.039 Because here’s something that a lot of adults seem to forgot: you kids are really smart 00:01:06.039 --> 00:01:11.180 and you often say much smarter things than most adults! So now it’s time for me to 00:01:11.180 --> 00:01:17.549 be quiet and let these super-smart, incredible vegan kids tell you why they don’t eat animals! 00:01:17.899 --> 00:01:19.399 Let’s meet them all first! 00:01:19.849 --> 00:01:24.279 There’s Elvis, who’s 3 and a half years old and lives in Hawaii in the United States. 00:01:24.519 --> 00:01:29.060 Kevin, who’s 13 and from England and the Philippines, and currently living in Bahrain 00:01:29.520 --> 00:01:34.119 Lilah, who’s 8 and Lex who’s 6, both from Massachusetts in the United States. 00:01:34.519 --> 00:01:37.519 JoJo, who’s 4 years old, from London, England. 00:01:38.219 --> 00:01:42.240 Lexie, who’s 13 from “the South” in the United States. 00:01:42.640 --> 00:01:47.229 Ronya, who’s 14 and Oli, who’s 8, both from Waiheke Island in New Zealand. 00:01:47.539 --> 00:01:50.369 Dylan, who’s 6.5 from Tel Aviv, Israel. 00:01:50.839 --> 00:01:54.930 And Carolina Ali, who’s 13 and from Tennessee in the United States. 00:01:55.230 --> 00:01:59.630 Now that you know their names, let’s hear why they don’t eat animals! And just so you 00:01:59.630 --> 00:02:04.429 know sometimes it may be hard to hear everyone because we were talking from really far away, 00:02:04.709 --> 00:02:10.570 so you can always turn on the captions down there, and I’ll put text up in the really hard parts. If you 00:02:10.570 --> 00:02:13.180 can’t read yet, you can ask an adult for help. 00:02:14.280 --> 00:02:18.170 I don’t eat animals because it’s bad for my body. 00:02:20.100 --> 00:02:22.980 And guys, it's good not to eat animals, but… 00:02:23.260 --> 00:02:24.050 How come? 00:02:24.320 --> 00:02:26.470 Um, because animals are our friends! 00:02:26.750 --> 00:02:33.630 So, I’m vegan for a number of reasons mostly to do with animal rights. Now does 00:02:33.630 --> 00:02:41.130 it make much sense to be eating animals or their secretions if you love them? 00:02:42.120 --> 00:02:47.510 But of course then there's environmental reasons. Without the earth then not going to 00:02:47.510 --> 00:02:51.980 be us. Now they're going to be no humans if we don't have a place to live. So, of course 00:02:51.980 --> 00:02:57.380 that’s very important. Of course my health--I've always considered myself a healthy person, 00:02:57.380 --> 00:03:04.790 but now that I'm vegan, I am much more healthy. And then probably the last big reason is other 00:03:04.790 --> 00:03:10.940 people. You know, going vegan can end world hunger and world thirst. And of course everyone 00:03:10.940 --> 00:03:17.500 wants that to end. Going vegan helps not only animals but other people as well. 00:03:18.820 --> 00:03:24.250 Main reason is ethical reasons, because I don’t think it’s our right to be, you know doing 00:03:24.250 --> 00:03:29.120 these things to other animals just because we think that we have the “better species,” which we’re 00:03:29.120 --> 00:03:35.260 really not. I went vegetarian when I was seven because we got chickens, kinda for pets, but 00:03:35.260 --> 00:03:40.739 Dad wanted to eat them and get their eggs and stuff. And I didn't mind the eggs because 00:03:40.739 --> 00:03:44.930 I didn’t really see what was wrong with that. But I didn't want to eat them because 00:03:44.930 --> 00:03:48.000 I fell in love with them and they had names and such, so why would I want to eat them? 00:03:48.400 --> 00:03:51.860 And then I sort of made the connection that, you know, just because the other ones don’t have names, 00:03:51.860 --> 00:03:55.240 that I know, doesn’t mean they’re any less...special. 00:03:55.770 --> 00:04:00.250 I’m vegan because I care about the animals and the environment, and especially my health. 00:04:00.610 --> 00:04:05.940 Because we don’t want to kill animals. We want them to live their own lives. 00:04:06.490 --> 00:04:13.680 I went vegan mainly because of you. The family wasn’t very supportive, but they’re 00:04:13.680 --> 00:04:19.630 getting better. We made it to veganism. We fought the fight and we won. 00:04:20.110 --> 00:04:27.729 I watched Gary Yourofsky’s speech and I went vegan overnight. I guess I've always 00:04:27.729 --> 00:04:34.159 thought hunting was wrong growing up around hunting, and I never kind of made the connection 00:04:34.159 --> 00:04:40.750 that it was kind of the same thing, me eating meat and hunting. So I went vegan overnight 00:04:40.750 --> 00:04:45.100 after watching Gary’s speech because I just realized it was the right thing to do and 00:04:45.100 --> 00:04:50.860 that was the way that everybody should be vegan--it’s just the only way to live. 00:04:51.680 --> 00:04:58.670 Because they just hurt them and just kill them. I want them to play around in 00:04:59.180 --> 00:05:06.610 the spring and the summer, and they want to live all lovely in the wild! 00:05:07.630 --> 00:05:13.660 Because my family...we believe that animals should have the rights to be happy 00:05:13.660 --> 00:05:20.169 like us. I went vegan when I was about maybe two because my family thought we needed eggs 00:05:20.169 --> 00:05:26.869 but then we discovered that we just don’t need them and animals are happier when we’re vegan. 00:05:27.120 --> 00:05:35.080 Cause I I don't want to kill animals and I and I don't want other people to kill them for me. 00:05:35.539 --> 00:05:40.749 I so hope you enjoyed hearing from real vegan kids! If you’re a vegan too, I hope that this helped 00:05:40.749 --> 00:05:45.849 you know that you’re not alone.
