【新住人インタビュー1】渡邉香織 編「かっこいい子が好きだけど…」

  • 0:00 - 0:04
    [COSTCO SUBS PRESENTS]
  • 0:04 - 0:10
    [Interview with a new member]
  • 0:10 - 0:12
    My name is Kaori Watanabe.
  • 0:12 - 0:14
    I'm an illustrator.
  • 0:14 - 0:16
    I'm 28 now.
  • 0:16 - 0:20
    [WORKING AS AN ILLUSTRATOR]
    My work is mostly fashion-related,
  • 0:20 - 0:22
    so I mainly draw people
  • 0:22 - 0:28
    and also clothing, of course,
    like fashion projects and such.
  • 0:28 - 0:30
    I do illustrations for magazines,
  • 0:30 - 0:34
I go to events and draw portraits,
  • 0:34 - 0:38
and I also collaborate with brands.
  • 0:38 - 0:40
[YOUR WAY TO BECOMING AN ILLUSTRATOR]
When I was an employee at a company,
  • 0:40 - 0:42
I used to draw on the side
  • 0:42 - 0:44
    and share my drawings
    on social media.
  • 0:44 - 0:47
I gradually started getting job offers
  • 0:47 - 0:50
and before I knew it I'd
    become an illustrator.
  • 0:50 - 0:54
When you have a second job,
    you have stability,
  • 0:54 - 0:58
but you can still do what you like to do.
I was glad I could do both, but...
  • 0:58 - 1:03
I just wanted people to know
that I was being serious about it.
  • 1:03 - 1:07
I didn't want them to think that
I'm just doing it on the side.
  • 1:07 - 1:12
I wanted to focus 100% on my
    work as an illustrator
  • 1:12 - 1:16
    and let people know that
this is what I want to do.
  • 1:16 - 1:19
I gradually came to think like this
    and got more motivated.
  • 1:19 - 1:23
And when my work as an illustrator
started paying me enough to get by,
  • 1:23 - 1:25
    I decided to become independent.
  • 1:25 - 1:28
[YOUR REASON FOR MOVING INTO TH]
For me to be starting out now
  • 1:28 - 1:30
as an illustrator is pretty late,
  • 1:30 - 1:33
    which is because I'd been
working at a company before that.
  • 1:33 - 1:35
    I'm 28 now.
  • 1:35 - 1:38
Most people I know are getting
    married and having kids,
  • 1:38 - 1:40
    and they've all settled down.
  • 1:40 - 1:43
Part of me really admires that, but...
  • 1:43 - 1:46
I still want to give it my best for a while,
  • 1:46 - 1:49
but at the same time I've been telling
myself that it may be too late for that.
  • 1:49 - 1:50
    That's when I thought...
  • 1:50 - 1:55
Terrace House is a show where people who
have dreams and goals all live together
  • 1:55 - 1:59
And I wanted to put myself
    in a place like that.
  • 1:59 - 2:02
    [ABOUT YOUR LOVE LIFE]
I was in a relationship until the end of last year.
  • 2:03 - 2:04
    I've gradually gotten over him.
  • 2:05 - 2:06
    But up until then...
  • 2:06 - 2:09
    I've always had goals like
"I want to study abroad" or
  • 2:09 - 2:13
"I want to go to this university"
  • 2:13 - 2:19
I thought that if I got a boyfriend,
    I'd probably get lazy.
  • 2:19 - 2:23
Well, I'd go on dates and there were
some people I was interested in, but...
  • 2:23 - 2:27
    I've only had two relationships.
One when I was at university
  • 2:27 - 2:29
and the other after I'd started
    working at my company
  • 2:29 - 2:33
    and shortly before I started
    doing freelance work.
  • 2:33 - 2:35
I went out for quite some time
    with both of them.
  • 2:35 - 2:37
    [WHEN YOU'RE IN LOVE]
    I have two patterns.
  • 2:37 - 2:40
One is, I'll fall in love instantly
  • 2:40 - 2:44
    and I can't see anything and I can't think
    about anything except that person.
  • 2:44 - 2:46
Which is pretty crazy, kind of dangerous.
  • 2:46 - 2:49
The other one is, while chatting
    I kind of start thinking,
  • 2:49 - 2:53
"I may really like this guy..."
  • 2:53 - 2:55
    Those are my two patterns.
  • 2:55 - 2:58
But either way there are times
when I can't think straight anymore.
  • 2:58 - 2:59
    Which isn't good.
  • 3:00 - 3:02
    [WHAT'S YOUR TYPE?]
I usually don't start liking someone
  • 3:02 - 3:04
    because of their looks.
  • 3:05 - 3:07
But of course I like good-looking guys.
  • 3:08 - 3:11
I do like people who do creative work.
  • 3:13 - 3:14
    But... You know...
  • 3:15 - 3:17
It's great if they're trustworthy, too.
  • 3:17 - 3:21
If I think about what kind of people
I've been interested in so far...
  • 3:21 - 3:26
I think most guys who were in sports
clubs at school are good guys.
  • 3:26 - 3:29
Whether it was friends of mine
    or someone I liked,
  • 3:29 - 3:31
I've always had a good impression of them.
  • 3:31 - 3:33
I really like people like that.
  • 3:33 - 3:35
    I like the jock types.
  • 3:37 - 3:41
