your questions but now let's turn to el
  • 0:23 - 0:29
james first al are you surprised by how
  • 0:27 - 0:33
successful and how popularly novels have
  • 0:29 - 0:38
been i think surprise really summing it
  • 0:33 - 0:41
up I think gobsmacked shocked terrified
  • 0:38 - 0:43
all those kind of words into mind it's
  • 0:41 - 0:46
been them it's happened very very very
  • 0:43 - 0:50
quickly so I haven't really had a chance
  • 0:46 - 0:52
to get used to it yet imma keep pinching
  • 0:50 - 0:54
    myself thinking this is actually
  • 0:52 - 0:56
happening to somebody else and actually
  • 0:54 - 0:58
that's probably I can deal with it
  • 0:56 - 1:01
really it's all happening to somebody
  • 0:58 - 1:04
else but is yes then it's been an
  • 1:01 - 1:09
    extraordinary extraordinary couple of
  • 1:04 - 1:11
months well yeah so far so yeah it's
  • 1:09 - 1:14
some i'm amazed completely amazed and
  • 1:11 - 1:16
you didn't intend to write a noble
  • 1:14 - 1:17
understand as well you basically took it
  • 1:16 - 1:21
up as a bit of a hobby is that right
  • 1:17 - 1:22
that's right yes yes also i just used to
  • 1:21 - 1:25
post it on the incidence of chapter at a
  • 1:22 - 1:34
time it's great fun really really good
  • 1:25 - 1:37
club and and yeah just gonna be here
  • 1:34 - 1:43
basically a man or even in my world
  • 1:37 - 1:45
history okay well as you can see people
  • 1:43 - 1:46
are joining us to ask you questions on
  • 1:45 - 1:48
this hangout let's go to our first
  • 1:46 - 1:55
    question that's from brittany in
  • 1:48 - 1:56
Scotland Brittany take it away and I
  • 1:55 - 1:59
know this is a bit jumping the gun but I
  • 1:56 - 2:01
was just wondering about and I know
  • 1:59 - 2:03
you're working on more books and I was
  • 2:01 - 2:06
wondering if you would go about it the
  • 2:03 - 2:07
same way as it write it on San fiction
  • 2:06 - 2:09
    and
  • 2:07 - 2:11
kind of edit to their already just
  • 2:09 - 2:14
finished with that process and now doing
  • 2:11 - 2:18
something different huh I think I've
  • 2:14 - 2:22
actually got to I went to novels before
  • 2:18 - 2:24
for every starting packages on I'd like
  • 2:22 - 2:29
to revisit them and I'm actually in the
  • 2:24 - 2:31
process of rewriting one of those I also
  • 2:29 - 2:35
start rewriting the other one and I have
  • 2:31 - 2:36
three other ideas as well so I'm I don't
  • 2:35 - 2:38
    know I actually don't know what I'm
  • 2:36 - 2:40
going to do next and this is a
  • 2:38 - 2:43
conversation I need to have with with a
  • 2:40 - 2:47
few people but I I'm quite passionate
  • 2:43 - 2:50
about all of them what I will miss is
  • 2:47 - 2:52
writing a chapter at a time and posting
  • 2:50 - 2:56
it up that is such a good it's such good
  • 2:52 - 3:01
fun it really is good fun and I really
  • 2:56 - 3:03
really enjoyed that process but it's
  • 3:01 - 3:04
also i mean i have two completed novels
  • 3:03 - 3:06
i just got to rewrite them so that's
  • 3:04 - 3:08
that's also gonna be fun as well and i
  • 3:06 - 3:11
agreed in forward to some peace and
  • 3:08 - 3:14
quiet so I can get on and do that
  • 3:11 - 3:19
because all of this stuff for doing this
  • 3:14 - 3:23
is crazy so so I'm looking forward to
  • 3:19 - 3:25
that great thank you and actually owe
  • 3:23 - 3:27
you when you wrote these books you were
  • 3:25 - 3:28
typing on your phone on the train and
  • 3:27 - 3:31
things like that weren't you so this
  • 3:28 - 3:36
whole process has been kind of shock to
  • 3:31 - 3:38
you yes yeah i was typing it whatever
  • 3:36 - 3:41
whatever and wherever i got inspiration
  • 3:38 - 3:42
to write so I'm not just typing out
  • 3:41 - 3:45
it'll do you know got scrap of paper
  • 3:42 - 3:46
back of an envelope whatever I was just
  • 3:45 - 3:47
doing that or we're not late but which
  • 3:46 - 3:51
she carried your writing you should
  • 3:47 - 3:53
carry all the time so yes it's um yeah
  • 3:51 - 3:58
it's yeah that's what I was doing but
  • 3:53 - 4:00
I'm very large and I max probably right
  • 3:58 - 4:04
sit on that and stay very safety of my
  • 4:00 - 4:06
home so let's turn to the actual
  • 4:04 - 4:10
    characters and Anastasia and Christian
  • 4:06 - 4:13
tell us a bit more about them well there
  • 4:10 - 4:14
what can I tell you about them anastasis
  • 4:13 - 4:19
    sort of young
  • 4:14 - 4:24
two shelves averted kind of setup head
  • 4:19 - 4:28
books most of her my cell life she's so
  • 4:24 - 4:30
    bright she's spunky she's um she doesn't
  • 4:28 - 4:35
quite know what hit so when she goes
  • 4:30 - 4:40
into he's Christian Grey who is super
  • 4:35 - 4:44
    very wealthy successful entrepreneur who
  • 4:40 - 4:47
has certainly existing tastes she was
  • 4:44 - 4:48
safe okay let's go to our second
  • 4:47 - 4:51
questions we have Geeta still here with
  • 4:48 - 4:53
us no I think she might dropped out for
  • 4:51 - 4:59
a moment Sophie an Oxford let's take
  • 4:53 - 5:02
your question next oh I just want to say
  • 4:59 - 5:04
how much i absolutely love the novels
  • 5:02 - 5:08
like it has an exam last week and I
  • 5:04 - 5:11
couldn't study for it because oh I'm
  • 5:08 - 5:13
    sorry that's okay I really didn't know
  • 5:11 - 5:17
how good it was gonna be and I was like
  • 5:13 - 5:19
but anyway and I know at first it was
  • 5:17 - 5:23
    published this were Australian publish
  • 5:19 - 5:25
what was it like to transition to a
  • 5:23 - 5:29
larger partnership well it was not of
  • 5:25 - 5:32
hectic really only we are these I only
  • 5:29 - 5:34
signed the deal with random house in 7th
  • 5:32 - 5:36
March and then we had to turn the
  • 5:34 - 5:38
novel's around very quickly they did oh
  • 5:36 - 5:42
they did a fantastic a very quick copy
  • 5:38 - 5:44
edit on 50 shades brands i did a bigger
  • 5:42 - 5:46
edit all the shades of grey and i turned
  • 5:44 - 5:48
it around to be something like two days
  • 5:46 - 5:53
i believe it came back to them so
  • 5:48 - 5:55
quickly and then they then they then and
  • 5:53 - 5:59
put it out I can't even remember which
  • 5:55 - 6:02
data I just lost some sense of time this
  • 5:59 - 6:05
process so we did that and then and then
  • 6:02 - 6:08
I went to Hollywood to meet lots of
  • 6:05 - 6:10
people i was actually editing the other
  • 6:08 - 6:13
two books while i was in Holly do it so
  • 6:10 - 6:18
it was just absolutely crazy crazy crazy
  • 6:13 - 6:21
morning so so yeah it's been it's been
  • 6:18 - 6:22
been really hard work and the guys at
  • 6:21 - 6:27
    random house
  • 6:22 - 6:30
in the USA and UK have done an amazing
  • 6:27 - 6:34
job in getting these books out there and
  • 6:30 - 6:37
just it's been astonishing how they've
  • 6:34 - 6:42
been coming how hard they've worked and
  • 6:37 - 6:44
you know it's some it's are just so you
  • 6:42 - 6:47
know taste it just blows me away all of
  • 6:44 - 6:49
that just blows me away well it's am
  • 6:47 - 6:51
riding high in the top seller lists and
  • 6:49 - 6:53
countries all over the world isn't it
  • 6:51 - 6:55
and it's available future purchase and
  • 6:53 - 6:58
read on google play we're in the google
  • 6:55 - 7:00
play hang out with a TL James let's take
  • 6:58 - 7:04
our next question now from Lindsay who
  • 7:00 - 7:04
is in Southampton Lindsay take it away
  • 7:05 - 7:10
first of all I just had to apologize for
  • 7:08 - 7:21
my parents I didn't know I was gonna be
  • 7:10 - 7:24
on camera you look great what I'd like
  • 7:21 - 7:27
to know is obviously recently we came to
  • 7:24 - 7:28
the information about fifty shades it's
  • 7:27 - 7:32
going to be made into a film fingers
  • 7:28 - 7:34
crossed Sam who do you envision in the
  • 7:32 - 7:37
role I understand the ian somerhalder is
  • 7:34 - 7:41
quite keen on this and I'm all for that
  • 7:37 - 7:43
but later and I'm actually very cool out
  • 7:41 - 7:46
I'm pleading the fifth on any costume
  • 7:43 - 7:48
issue anything I just then it's very
  • 7:46 - 7:52
very quiet and it's very very early
  • 7:48 - 7:56
stages we need to find a producer we
  • 7:52 - 8:00
need to find a script on the script so I
  • 7:56 - 8:03
am going to say nothing about the car
  • 8:00 - 8:16
sitting if there nobody that you sort of
  • 8:03 - 8:17
picture in the roles of arms I don't
  • 8:16 - 8:21
think we can convince their can we I
  • 8:17 - 8:26
    don't think that's going to change it's
  • 8:21 - 8:28
gonna be so excited in a Bolton in this
  • 8:26 - 8:31
    processes
  • 8:28 - 8:33
wow you know who'd of thought and so
  • 8:31 - 8:36
then yeah I'm just gonna keep my mouth
  • 8:33 - 8:38
shut for change okay for those of you
  • 8:36 - 8:40
have just joined us on the hangouts

  • 8:42 - 8:47
many of you as we can to get your
  • 8:43 - 8:53
question let's now go to kc with your
  • 8:47 - 9:01
question Casey hi I was just what you
  • 8:53 - 9:05
consider to be about Christian I get
  • 9:01 - 9:08
asked that a lot and you know given
  • 9:05 - 9:09
Walker's all I'm not sure that I feel
  • 9:08 - 9:13
    comfortable writing something like that
  • 9:09 - 9:16
so you know I'd without going into too
  • 9:13 - 9:19
much detail I just think that's it I
  • 9:16 - 9:22
mean first let me say never say never
  • 9:19 - 9:30
because that's just you know what my
  • 9:22 - 9:36
folks just sorry I saw what I switched
  • 9:30 - 9:38
up oh yeah i just i die i don't plan to
  • 9:36 - 9:42
I mean whether I continue the series
  • 9:38 - 9:44
will write it from criticism questions
  • 9:42 - 9:46
that place there's a couple of cities
  • 9:44 - 9:53
but I would also like to write something
  • 9:46 - 9:55
out as well but is okay for those of you
  • 9:53 - 9:58
have just joined the hangouts if you
  • 9:55 - 9:59
have your microphone on then we can hear
  • 9:58 - 10:02
you so then the screen we're showing you
  • 9:59 - 10:06
do we have Geeta Geeta you back there I
  • 10:02 - 10:09
am I'm so sorry no are a scooter quite
  • 10:06 - 10:11
dark now let's take your question for el
  • 10:09 - 10:16
james Geeta okay well i'm not sure if
  • 10:11 - 10:19
anyone's probably ask yeah but I'm basic
  • 10:16 - 10:22
dear one we wanted to ask and whether
  • 10:19 - 10:25
you have where to use the Christian and
  • 10:22 - 10:28
a nine ten years now and would you think
  • 10:25 - 10:32
about writing about them and their
  • 10:28 - 10:33
lately is I I would tell you that but I
  • 10:32 - 10:37
don't want to spoil it for people who
  • 10:33 - 10:40
haven't read the second book the second
  • 10:37 - 10:43
so I if you if you want to ask me that
  • 10:40 - 10:46
in six months time i will tell you but
  • 10:43 - 10:48
    it's it's kind of difficult because I
  • 10:46 - 10:55
cook yeah I know I know where they're
  • 10:48 - 10:59
going to be and together then I today
  • 10:55 - 11:02
and also as i'm not sure if anyone's
  • 10:59 - 11:06
asked this already but i use thinking of
  • 11:02 - 11:08
writing and the three against on Kristin
  • 11:06 - 11:11
    Christians pointed unit I'd say I can't
  • 11:08 - 11:13
tell you how I just put those things the
  • 11:11 - 11:16
better yeah hi I'm real think about it
  • 11:13 - 11:19
I'll think you know it definitely that
  • 11:16 - 11:27
last they just made me cry and we all
  • 11:19 - 11:29
loved it so much yes I'd like to you
  • 11:27 - 11:34
please very very interesting at spaced
  • 11:29 - 11:40
    view yeah it's it's it's fun it's fun
  • 11:34 - 11:43
    writing especially someone as mental
  • 11:40 - 11:51
mixed-up kid like him so so we all want
  • 11:43 - 11:54
to fix it don't wait and the rest of my
  • 11:51 - 11:58
question is were and about the movies
  • 11:54 - 12:04
but I'm guessing that's a no go area
  • 11:58 - 12:07
yeah costing of you weren't online now
  • 12:04 - 12:09
so do you get to do you have the same
  • 12:07 - 12:14
though it's going to be a collaborative
  • 12:09 - 12:17
process that's a bad thing that some of
  • 12:14 - 12:23
my question okay thank you to stay with
  • 12:17 - 12:26
us thank you let's go back then to
  • 12:23 - 12:28
Britney do you have a second question at
  • 12:26 - 12:30
all or just Sophie raise your hand if
  • 12:28 - 12:32
you do we'll come to you to get another
  • 12:30 - 12:34
question in Lindsay let's go to you
  • 12:32 - 12:37
    Lindsay and Southampton what's your
  • 12:34 - 12:40
second question for Yale James I just
  • 12:37 - 12:42
wondered what Al stands for and if
  • 12:40 - 12:44
you're ever going to tell us and I'm
  • 12:42 - 12:46
just wondering why you chose to put that
  • 12:44 - 12:48
on the book hookers oppose your full
  • 12:46 - 12:52
    name um like
  • 12:48 - 12:55
I spent about three minutes siding I
  • 12:52 - 12:57
needed to see him I thought I didn't
  • 12:55 - 12:59
know I had no idea these books of your
  • 12:57 - 13:01
successful material I thought I would
  • 12:59 - 13:04
continue writing and I've continued were
  • 13:01 - 13:06
killing us to keep them separate so the
  • 13:04 - 13:08
EDA she stands for Erica which is my
  • 13:06 - 13:11
name the oh I'm not really what that
  • 13:08 - 13:16
stands for and yeah interserve is its
  • 13:11 - 13:20
kind of sort of family name way back
  • 13:16 - 13:22
when so that's what that that's what
  • 13:20 - 13:24
that sounds like the thing is I thought
  • 13:22 - 13:27
I was into a place to work in up until
  • 13:24 - 13:31
january i was working in television and
  • 13:27 - 13:34
tell me owning a time and you know
  • 13:31 - 13:37
making TV programs and i kind of miss my
  • 13:34 - 13:43
mates from from from pet where I used to
  • 13:37 - 13:45
work but some it's it's I just decided
  • 13:43 - 13:48
that I do I wanted to keep them separate
  • 13:45 - 13:52
you know writing sort of romantic erotic
  • 13:48 - 13:55
novels and it's working in TV like best
  • 13:52 - 13:59
to have two different personas okay
  • 13:55 - 14:01
that's okay you know you wrote the you
  • 13:59 - 14:02
say you're from London there but the
  • 14:01 - 14:04
book is actually based in Seattle isn't
  • 14:02 - 14:10
it why did you choose to base it there
  • 14:04 - 14:12
well because of its origins really the
  • 14:10 - 14:17
Twilight novels take place on in
  • 14:12 - 14:19
Washington State and I chose the apples
  • 14:17 - 14:22
another reason is that my favorite also
  • 14:19 - 14:24
assess her one of my favorites or assess
  • 14:22 - 14:27
her normals there was set alot renault
  • 14:24 - 14:31
um one of my favorite north I wouldn't
