0:05 - 0:09Clay is just this kind of amazing material
-
0:09 - 0:12in that it has all these different states.
-
0:15 - 0:18And it's very loose and pliable--
-
0:18 - 0:20it can be unwieldy,
-
0:20 - 0:22especially when you're working with a lot of it.
[LAUGHS] -
0:29 - 0:31And then it dries out.
-
0:31 - 0:33The water leaves it.
-
0:33 - 0:36It just becomes, like, this dust.
-
0:39 - 0:41And you have to get it into the kiln.
-
0:41 - 0:41You fire it
-
0:41 - 0:45and it vitrifies and becomes very hard and stable.
-
0:46 - 0:50It's so interesting that dust becomes this material
-
0:50 - 0:51that is, like, probably
-
0:51 - 0:53one of the hardest things to degrade.
