CIJ for kids and teens insight for life
  • 0:04 - 0:06
    program is an awe-inspiring course
  • 0:06 - 0:09
    focusing on mindfulness and emotional
  • 0:09 - 0:12
    intelligence the curriculum is based
  • 0:12 - 0:15
upon a methodology first taught at
  • 0:15 - 0:18
    Stanford University's famed creativity
  • 0:18 - 0:20
and business course that was developed
  • 0:20 - 0:25
by Dr. Michael Ray in 1979. It had such
  • 0:25 - 0:28
great success there. It was touted the
  • 0:28 - 0:31
most life transforming course ever to be
  • 0:31 - 0:35
taught at Stanford University. In 2001, it
  • 0:35 - 0:37
was finally brought out of the
  • 0:37 - 0:40
university by Julia Romaine and a team of
  • 0:40 - 0:44
coaches for the general public to enjoy.
  • 0:44 - 0:47
In 2014, the torch was passed to Hay
  • 0:47 - 0:50
    House author and transformational coach
  • 0:50 - 0:52
Jennifer Grace who became the lead
  • 0:52 - 0:53
    train-the-trainer
  • 0:53 - 0:57
    and brought the curriculum worldwide
  • 0:57 - 0:59
under Ms graces direction it was then
  • 0:59 - 1:02
    translated into six different languages
  • 1:02 - 1:04
and is now being taught in six different
  • 1:04 - 1:07
    countries. In 2016,
  • 1:07 - 1:10
she and her team piloted the class for
  • 1:10 - 1:15
kids and teens. The results were profound.
  • 1:15 - 1:19
As of 2017, there are now 40 Insight for
  • 1:19 - 1:22
    Life instructors teaching the curriculum
  • 1:22 - 1:25
in after schools, public and private
  • 1:25 - 1:27
schools, as well as yoga studios, and
  • 1:27 - 1:31
wellness centers here are the results
  • 1:31 - 1:34
from Muse Arts after-school center that
  • 1:34 - 1:36
    has recently implemented the curriculum
  • 1:36 - 1:39
    into its programming.
    -Hi my name is
  • 1:39 - 1:41
Yasmine satici. I'm the director of Muse
  • 1:41 - 1:44
Center for the Arts. So, bringing Insight
  • 1:44 - 1:47
for Life to our conservatory program has
  • 1:47 - 1:49
made such an incredible impact on the
  • 1:49 - 1:52
students here. They immediately fell in
  • 1:52 - 1:53
love with the material and we're super
  • 1:53 - 1:56
inspired by it and just kind of bubbling
  • 1:56 - 1:58
over with like enthusiasm and they just
  • 1:58 - 2:00
wanted more and more and it really
  • 2:00 - 2:02
taught them that they have a choice, they
  • 2:02 - 2:04
have a choice how they conduct themselves
  • 2:04 - 2:07
and the direction that they take their lives
  • 2:07 - 2:09
in and it gave them this power that they
  • 2:09 - 2:13
never really knew they had before.
    - Before
  • 2:13 - 2:16
I took Insight for Life, I really
  • 2:16 - 2:18
    struggled with self-confidence like a
  • 2:18 - 2:20
lot it really helped me like figure out
  • 2:20 - 2:23
what my identity was and like Who I am
  • 2:23 - 2:25
    - Before I took insight for life I was
  • 2:25 - 2:29
very confused about a lot of things I
  • 2:29 - 2:32
    also thought really negatively about
  • 2:32 - 2:35
myself. It has made me more confident and
  • 2:35 - 2:37
I believed in myself way more than I
  • 2:37 - 2:41
have when I started this and I feel like
  • 2:41 - 2:44
I can do more and I trust myself more now.
  • 2:44 - 2:46
    - I grew up a lot this year and I think
  • 2:46 - 2:48
it's a lot because of this class, but I
  • 2:48 - 2:51
really learned like how to love myself
  • 2:51 - 2:53
and like to love the mistakes that I've
  • 2:53 - 2:55
made through the process of this class
  • 2:55 - 2:58
but also through my life so this is what
  • 2:58 - 2:59
    I created
    - Wow
  • 2:59 - 3:00
    and it's like my inner
  • 3:00 - 3:04
gremlin. I'm like. it's also can be like
  • 3:04 - 3:07
    representatives like me before
  • 3:07 - 3:09
    this class and me now.
  • 3:09 - 3:12
I had bad anger issues and like
  • 3:12 - 3:15
they're a lot better now like
    - yeah
  • 3:15 - 3:17
and like I used to have a lot of conflicts
  • 3:17 - 3:18
with my mom and stuff like that's also a
  • 3:18 - 3:20
    lot better now
  • 3:20 - 3:22
it helped me with focusing a lot better
  • 3:22 - 3:25
it helped me with different relationships
  • 3:25 - 3:28
with different friends and it helped me
  • 3:28 - 3:32
    just focus
    - So the tools from insight for
  • 3:32 - 3:34
life and meditation and journaling and
  • 3:34 - 3:36
everything they helped me so much
  • 3:36 - 3:38
because I'm not a great test taker so
  • 3:38 - 3:40
when I got so stressed out.
  • 3:40 - 3:41
I would use SA TA NA MA meditation
  • 3:41 - 3:43
just to calm down and I'll
  • 3:43 - 3:45
breathe in and breathe out, get my focus
  • 3:45 - 3:46
straight and then I would continue
  • 3:47 - 3:51
    I'm Olivia Holmes I'm 25 I live in
  • 3:51 - 3:53
central Massachusetts and when I was 15
  • 3:53 - 3:56
years old I took CIJ Insights for Life
  • 3:56 - 3:59
    with Jennifer Grace
  • 3:59 - 4:03
at that time I was about to drop out of
  • 4:03 - 4:05
high school I was dealing with friend
  • 4:05 - 4:09
drama, boyfriend drama and it made me, so,
  • 4:09 - 4:12
I wasn't confident in myself and I felt
  • 4:12 - 4:15
like I didn't fit in. I wanted to escape
  • 4:15 - 4:17
and the only way that I thought I could
  • 4:17 - 4:20
do that was to drop out of my high
  • 4:20 - 4:22
school and to start fresh and go to
  • 4:22 - 4:27
beauty school. Fast forward 10 years and
  • 4:27 - 4:30
I'm a graduate of Isenberg School of
  • 4:30 - 4:33
Management at UMass Amherst. I'm a
  • 4:33 - 4:35
marketing professional at a tech company
  • 4:35 - 4:38
in Boston .I've been there three years
  • 4:38 - 4:40
and I've earned myself three promotions
  • 4:40 - 4:42
working my way up from a marketing
  • 4:42 - 4:46
analyst to a marketing programs manager
  • 4:46 - 4:48
and I envisioned myself getting another
  • 4:48 - 4:51
promotion within the next six months
  • 4:51 - 4:54
Over the years I've gone back time and
  • 4:54 - 4:57
time again to those simple tools like
  • 4:57 - 5:00
journaling and meditating in order to
  • 5:00 - 5:03
get clear on Who I am and what I want
  • 5:03 - 5:06
I silenced my inner gremlin whenever I'm
  • 5:06 - 5:08
doubting myself and I think back to the
  • 5:08 - 5:11
creative process model that lets me know
  • 5:11 - 5:13
that hitting a brick wall in life is
  • 5:13 - 5:17
just part of the process. I don't know
  • 5:17 - 5:19
where my life would be at if I hadn't
  • 5:19 - 5:22
taken this course so many years ago, but
  • 5:22 - 5:25
I sincerely hope that every kid out
  • 5:25 - 5:28
there in the world has an opportunity to
  • 5:28 - 5:31
experience these tools because for me
  • 5:31 - 5:32
    it's changed my life.
  • 5:33 - 5:33
    - I think it would be
  • 5:33 - 5:35
amazing if Insight for Life was a
  • 5:35 - 5:37
part of like our everyday curriculum for
  • 5:37 - 5:40
our children in any age group from
  • 5:40 - 5:42
elementary school to middle school kids.
  • 5:42 - 5:46
if these tools were given to children at
  • 5:46 - 5:48
an earlier age where it was just an
  • 5:48 - 5:51
everyday thing to identify you know the
  • 5:51 - 5:54
different aspects of yourself your inner
  • 5:54 - 5:56
self the outer world and how you
  • 5:56 - 5:58
interact with it, it would give our
  • 5:58 - 6:01
children an incredible upper hand in
  • 6:01 - 6:03
just moving forward and dealing with
  • 6:03 - 6:06
life both in the an academic environment
  • 6:06 - 6:08
and outside of the academic environment
  • 6:08 - 6:11
You would allow them to really thrive as
  • 6:11 - 6:12
students and as human beings and as
  • 6:12 - 6:15
contributing members to our community and
  • 6:15 - 6:18
our society this should be as important
  • 6:18 - 6:21
as math and English. It's as
  • 6:21 - 6:25
important to be a healthy functioning
  • 6:25 - 6:29
    well-adjusted young person who is
  • 6:29 - 6:32
    self-aware and community conscious so
  • 6:32 - 6:34
that you can put all this wonderful
  • 6:34 - 6:38
academics at very learning to good use
  • 6:38 - 6:40
and and it really absolutely should be
  • 6:40 - 6:42
    something that's a necessity and not a
  • 6:42 - 6:45
luxury. If you're interested in learning
  • 6:45 - 6:46
how you can bring this into your school,
  • 6:46 - 6:49
