-
Do you want a standard?
-
I’ve got them all.
-
CMI5?
-
Or how about TINCAN?
-
Standards are really useful.
-
Standards allow different systems
to talk to each other.
-
You could say that a standard
is like a container that can hold
-
lots of different things.
-
Such as videos, quizzes, games or sounds.
-
But this content has to be packaged
in some sort of container
-
so that your LMS can handle it.
-
And now we are going to talk about the
types of container that are used in EdTech.
-
This one, Scorm 1.2,
is a real old favourite.
-
This standard came out back in 2000
at the start of millennium
-
and it’s simple, reliable, and supported
by every LMS on the planet.
-
But, it’s obviously not the latest
and it doesn’t work especially
-
well with smartphones.
-
So that’s something to keep in mind.
-
Let's not talk about this one.
-
This is Scorm 2004.
-
It’s like the little
brother to Scorm 1.2.
-
They are very similar, but no matter
how hard it has tried,
-
it has never grown as
big as its big brother.
-
Then, in 2013 this cool kid
came along, TINCAN or xAPI.
-
This one is really good at communicating
with smartphones and mobile-ready LMS.
-
Take a look at this neat little thing.
-
This is CMI5.
-
This standard is totally new.
-
Of course, there are not
many people using it yet,
-
but you have to agree it looks good.
-
So there you have it: standards.
-
Oh yes.
-
I almost forgot this one of course.
-
This is a little painful.
-
This is Flash, and it was a really
important standard for many years.
-
But nowadays ... well, there’s
not much to say really.
-
It’s really out for the count today,
and it shouldn’t be used any more.
-
And we’ll talk about
that in another video.
